A 76-year-old woman was referred to our centre to perform 18F-FDG PET/CT with the clinical suspicion of vasculitis. Whole body PET was negative for vasculitis but it depicted moderate hypermetabolism in several lymph nodes of the mediastinum and intense uptake of the tracer in the parotid glands. Since the patient referred skin lesion on both legs a particular acquisition of the lower extremities was performed which showed diffuse uptake on the perimalleolar region of both legs. On the basis of the PET/CT findings that were suggestive for sarcoidosis the patient performed bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and biopsy of a mediastinal lymph node which confirmed the suspicion of sarcoidosis(AU)

RESUMEN

Despite extensive analyses on the centromere and its associated proteins, detailed studies of centromeric DNA structure have provided limited information about its topography in condensed chromatin. We have developed a method with correlative fluorescence light microscopy and atomic force microscopy that investigates the physical and structural organization of α-satellite DNA sequences in the context of its associated protein, CENP-B, on human metaphase chromosome topography. Comparison of centromeric DNA and protein distribution patterns in fixed homologous chromosomes indicates that CENP-B and α-satellite DNA are distributed distinctly from one another and relative to observed centromeric ridge topography. Our approach facilitates correlated studies of multiple chromatin components comprising higher-order structures of human metaphase chromosomes.

RESUMEN

The nanoindentation-induced phase transformation behavior of silicon at elevated temperatures (25-150 degrees C) has been studied. Nucleation of Si-III/Si-XII on unloading is enhanced with increasing temperature and at the highest temperatures in an amorphous Si matrix, occurs in a continuous fashion without a pop-out event. Interestingly, for slow unloading at the highest temperatures, formation of Si-III/Si-XII in a crystalline Si matrix was not observed. Elevated temperatures enhance the nucleation of Si-III and Si-XII during unloading but the final composition of the phase transformed zone is also dependent on the thermal stability of the phases in their respective matrices.
