RESUMEN

Objective: To provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of pneumoconiosis and the formulation of relevant policies, this paper discusses the loss of health life and economic loss caused by coal worker's pneumoconiosis in a mining group. Methods: From March to October 2017, 1262 cases of coal worker's pneumoconiosis were diagnosed in a mining group from 1972 to 2013. The direct and indirect economic losses are calculated by the step-by-step model method. Direct economic losses include medical expenses, one-time disability allowance, disability allowance, funeral allowance, one-time work death allowance, living and nursing expenses, food allowance, pension for supporting relatives and transportation expenses, etc. Indirect economic losses includes loss of social productivity, additional training fee for new employees, transportation fee for accompanying family members, loss of social productivity of accompanying family members, loss of production suspension and production reduction, etc. Life table method was used to calculate the loss of social productivity caused by coal worker's pneumoconiosis. Results: All 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients were male. In the stage of pneumoconiosis, 95.40% (1204/1262) of the first stage of pneumoconiosis and 42.62% (538/1262) of the seventh stage of disability. The age of diagnosis (22.02-71.33) was 47.38 years on average. 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients caused a total of 9068.54 years of health life loss, of which YLD accounted for 93.56% (8484.69/9068.54) . The loss of YLD (0.06-33.30) years in 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients was 6.70 years per capita. The total economic loss of 1262 coal workers with pneumoconiosis was 2842185447.70 yuan, with a per capita of 2252127.93 yuan. The direct economic loss accounted for 81.59% (2318990168.46/2842185447.70) , which was 4.42 times of the indirect economic loss. Among the direct economic loss per capita, medical expenses accounted for a large proportion of 50.04% (919510.84/1837551.64) . The per capita indirect economic loss is 414576.29 yuan. The loss of social productivity accounted for 56.18% (232908.95/414576.29) . Conclusion: Coal worker's pneumoconiosis causes heavy economic burden and serious loss of social productivity.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Dysfunction of vascular endothelial cells was associated with diverse human diseases, including cardiovascular disease. Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) were involved in the regulation of cell injury. We aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA testis-specific transcript, Y-linked 15 (TTTY15) in hypoxia-induced cell injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cell counting kit-8 (CCK8) assay was used to check cell viability. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay kit and flow cytometry were utilized to evaluate the leakage rate of LDH and cell apoptosis, respectively. The protein levels of Cyclin D1 and B-cell lymphoma-2-Associated X (Bax) in hypoxia-induced HUVECs were measured by Western blot. Quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was conducted to detect the expression levels of TTTY15 and miR-186-5p in hypoxia-induced HUVECs. The starBase was utilized to predict the binding sites between TTTY15 and miR-186-5p and the dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed to verify the interaction. RESULTS: Hypoxia inhibited cell viability and promoted the release of LDH and cell apoptosis in HUVECs. Besides, hypoxia significantly decreased the protein level of Cyclin D1 and increased the protein level of Bax in HUVECs. In addition, the expression level of TTTY15 was obviously upregulated in hypoxia-induced HUVECs, opposite to the level of miR-186-5p. Meanwhile, knockdown of TTTY15 or upregulation of miR-186-5p mitigated hypoxia-induced cell injury in HUVECs. Further studies suggested that TTTY15 targeted miR-186-5p and regulated hypoxia-induced cell injury via interacting with miR-186-5p in HUVECs. CONCLUSIONS: Downregulation of TTTY15 ameliorated hypoxia-induced cell injury by targeting miR-186-5p in HUVECs.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The main aims of this study were to (i) investigate the emotional disorder status of patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) and (ii) detect regional cerebral blood flow in BMS patients with the application of combined single-photon emission computed tomography and computed tomography (SPECT/CT). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The degree of pain was measured using the visual analysis scale, and emotional disorder with the self-rating anxiety scale, self-rating depression scale, and Hamilton depression rating scale in 29 patients with BMS and 10 healthy controls. SPECT/CT was performed in 29 patients with BMS and 10 healthy controls, and statistical parametric mapping method was used for between-group analyses. RESULTS: The incidence rate of depression in patients with BMS was 31.0%. Compared to the control group, patients with BMS displayed significantly different depression and anxiety scales (P < 0.05). Significantly lower regional cerebral blood flow in the left parietal and left temporal lobes was recorded for BMS patients with depression (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with BMS experience more depression and anxious emotion. Moreover, depression in patients with BMS may be associated with lower regional cerebral blood flow in the left temporal and left parietal lobes.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Increasing evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a vital role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the altered miRNA expression profile in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and determine the miR-27b expression. METHODS: We compared miRNA expression patterns in oral biopsy specimens from patients with OLP (n=3) with those from normal controls (n=3) using microarray technology. We further assessed the miR-27b expression in specimens from patients with OLP (n=53) against controls (n=34) using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-QPCR), and miR-27b expression in specimens from patients with OLP (n=15) against controls (n=12) using in situ hybridization (ISH). RESULTS: Using microarray analysis, a total of 46 differentially expressed miRNAs with more than 2-fold change were identified, including 8 up-regulated and 38 down-regulated miRNAs. Both RT-QPCR and ISH analyses revealed that miR-27b was significantly down-regulated in OLP tissue, and miR-27b expression was even more suppressed in atrophic-erosive OLP than in reticular OLP. In addition, miR-27b was found to be expressed in the epithelial keratinocyte layer of both normal and OLP tissues. CONCLUSION: These data indicate that miRNAs may be the novel candidate biomarkers for the implication of miRNAs in the pathogenesis of OLP.

RESUMEN

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common oral inflammatory disease affecting about 1-2% of the general adult population. As with European families who are diagnosed with OLP, the Chinese family who we studied was diagnosed with a severe form of oral reticular and erosive lesions; moreover, two of the five affected individuals developed oral cancer at an early age. A whole-genome genotyping scan with linkage analysis was performed using the 10K SNP array to investigate the genetic susceptibility of the Chinese family to OLP, which revealed one maximal nonparametric LOD score of 2.32 (P = 0.0156) for SNP marker rs2372736, defined at the chromosome 3p14-3q13 region encompassing 19 SNPs. Blood samples were obtained from 10 members of the family, which included the grandmother, father and mother, and the children altogether. The grandfather is dead, but the family members remembered he also suffered from the same disease. Chromosome 3p14-3q13 was identified as the candidate gene region for OLP; this information provides a foundation for further identification of the gene responsible for OLP.

RESUMEN

Despite improvements in immunosuppressive therapy, acute rejection remains an important cause of morbidity and late graft loss in patients undergoing liver transplantation. Increasing evidence supports an important role for chemokines and their receptors in transplant immunology. An acute liver graft rejection model in rats was used to study the role of the chemokine receptor CXCR3 in acute transplant rejection after liver transplantation by lentivirus-mediated gene transfer of small interfering RNA (siRNA) against CXCR3. Using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction it was first shown that three lentivirus-CXCR3 siRNA vectors inhibited the in vitro expression of CXCR3 in activated T-cells bearing CXCR3. Then, it was shown that treatment of the animals with lentivirus-CXCR3 siRNA before liver transplantation reduced CXCR3 mRNA and protein, and protein levels of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 and interferon-gamma measured as indices of acute graft rejection. Based on the results from this animal model, targeting chemokines by the use of siRNA may become a feasible option for therapy after transplantation.

RESUMEN

AIM: To prospectively investigate the role of MR spectroscopy (MRS) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) in assessing vertebral marrow changes in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-eight postmenopausal women (mean age 63.7+/-3.5 years; range 55-81 years), who underwent dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry of the spine, were divided into three bone density groups (24 with normal, 25 with osteopaenic, and 29 with osteoporotic) based on T score. Both MRS and DWI of the L3 vertebral body were performed to calculate the marrow fat content and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). The results were compared between three groups and correlated with BMD. RESULTS: Vertebral marrow fat content was significantly increased in the osteoporotic group (59.97+/-5.78%), when compared with that of the osteopaenic group (53.04+/-7.66%, p=0.001) and the normal bone density group (48.79+/-7.1%, p<0.001). ADC values in the osteoporotic, osteopaenic, and normal bone density groups were 0.39+/-0.02x10(-3)mm(2)/s, 0.41+/-0.02x10(-3)mm(2)/s, and 0.47+/-0.03x10(-3)mm(2)/s, respectively, with statistically significant difference (P<0.001). A statistically significant positive correlation between T scores and ADC existed (r=0.835, p<0.001). The vertebral marrow fat content was negatively correlated to the bone density (r=-0.639, p<0.001) and to marrow ADC (r=-0.554, p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The postmenopausal women with osteoporosis exhibited a corresponding increase in vertebral marrow fat content as the bone density decreased. Marrow fat content and ADC were related to the bone density. MRS and DWI are helpful in evaluating the bone marrow changes in postmenopausal women.

RESUMEN

The catechins, particularly in green tea, have been found to possess anti-mutagenic and anti-tumorigenic properties. As each catechin possesses distinct properties, a simple and rapid method that could be used for analysis of individual catechins in a complex mixture would be necessary. A relatively simple and rapid method for simultaneous separation of five catechins and caffeine in tea polyphenol by isocratic elution high performance liquid chromatography has been developed. The analysis could be finished within 30 min. They were measured using Resolve C18 column (at 43 degrees C) and UV detector (at 280 nm), water-85% phosphoric acid aqueous solution-acetonitrile-dimethyl formamide(DMF) (859:1:120:20, V/V) as mobile phase. There was a good linear relationship between the content of component and its peak area for catechins and caffeine, with the correlation coefficients of 0.9992-0.9999. The average recoveries (n = 5) were 83.33%-104.42%, and the relative standard deviations (n = 6) were 0.74%-1.43%. The effect of concentration of DMF in mobile phase was studied.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To examine the practical feasibility of using a 3.0-T MR unit to obtain high-quality, high-resolution images of the knee joint. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One human cadaveric and 5 porcine knees were imaged with the 3.0-T unit. Sets of T1-weighted spin echo images were obtained with in-plane resolution of 0.195x0.39 mm and an acquisition time of approximately 5 min. Two porcine knees were also imaged with the 1.0-T unit with an identical imaging protocol and the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios were measured on images at 3 T and 1 T. RESULTS: The 3-T MR system provided detailed delineation of the knees. Deep layers of the medial collateral ligament and associated fine fibers beneath the medial and lateral collateral ligament were demarcated. We observed precise demonstration of the tibial attachment of the anterior cruciate ligament, irregularity of the meniscal free edge, and conjoint tendon formation together with the lateral collateral ligament and the biceps femoris tendon. Compared to the 1-T unit, the S/N ratio with the 3-T unit was increased by a factor of 1.39 to 1.72. CONCLUSION: Due to the potential advantage of obtaining detailed images, the 3-T MR system suggests a practical utility for fine demonstration of the knee morphology.

RESUMEN

A high performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of carbohydrates and sorbitol in Nane fruit is described. The chromatography was carried out on a mu-Spherogel carbohydrate column(4.6 mm i.d. x 300 mm) (at 85 degrees C) using water as mobile phase and refractive index detector. The average recovery of carbohydrates were 75.00%-88.37% and correlation coefficients were 0.9709-0.9999. The relative standard deviations for intra-day were 5.10% for sucrose, 3.15% for glucose, 3.03% for fructose and 4.84% for sorbitol respectively (n = 5). The accumulations of soluble carbohydrates(including fructose, glucose, sorbitol and sucrose) in flesh showed their characteristic patterns in different special phase of fruit growth.

RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate the application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the preoperative staging of advanced gastric cancer. METHODS: An MRI (SE sequence) was preoperatively performed on 34 patients with advanced gastric cancer. The tumors were located at the cardia fundus in 11 patients, the corpus in 14, the antrum in ten and throughout the entire stomach in two. The images were analyzed and staged on the basis of the criteria proposed by Matsushita M. The results were compared with the corresponding histopathologic findings to analyze the rate of diagnostic accordance. RESULTS: The diagnostic rate accuracy by MRI was 77.8% (seven out of nince) for T2 tumors; 77.3% (17 out of 22) for T3 tumors and 100% (three out of three) for T4 tumors, with the overall accuracy equaling 79.4%. When grades T3 and T4 tumors were considered as a single group to determine the presence or absence of extraserosal invasion using MRI technology, the diagnostic accuracy was 88.3%. Statistically, MRI staging showed a significant correlation with the corresponding histopathologic staging using the Spearman correlation test (rs' = 0.743, P < 0.01). When the concordance between MRI and histopathologic staging results were studied according to tumor location, the staging accuracy was highest (90.9%) in tumors located in gastric cardia fundus. CONCLUSION: MR imaging is moderately valuable when staging advanced gastric cancer, especially for tumors located in gastric cardia fundus.

RESUMEN

The media and indicators were absorbed in a paper-disk (P-D) which is made of filters of mixed cellulose. When P-D is inoculated and cultured at 37 degrees C, the presence of Candida albicans can be shown by the color change from white to brown within 24 hours. Results showed that P-D was specific to Candida species, and the susceptibility was 380 CFU/ml. Fifty patients suspected of oral candidosis were detected by P-D. Its positive percentage of findings was insignificant compared with that of the conventional cultures (P > 0.05). However, P-D is easy to manipulate and inexpensive, and particularly useful because result can be obtained within 24 hours.

RESUMEN

Using lanthanum tracer, we investigated the ultrastructure and the cell membrane permeability of mouse cardiac muscles in the early stage of severe burns. The main pathological changes included loosening and flocculation of myofibrils, local dilation of intercalated discs, increase and degeneration of mitochondria, and edema of interstitium. Lanthanum tracer located inside the myocardial cells, which indicated that the permeability of cell membrane was increased. The present study suggested that the onset of abnormal cardiac rate and arrhythmia in early stage of severe burns probably related to these pathological changes.

RESUMEN

The transfection of NIH 3T3 cells was performed with DNAs from 2 duck primary hepatic carcinomas (DHC 40K, 9K) and 1 tumor-adjacent liver tissue (TAL, 9N). Transfectants were found from 40K, 9K and 9N DNAs. The secondary transfectants were obtained after transfection of RAT-1 cells with DNAs from primary transfectants. After hybridization with Ha-ras, Ki-ras, N-ras and mht oncogenes, it was found that duck mht (5.2 and 3.2 kb EcoRI fragments) and duck Ha-ras (3.4 kb EcoRI fragments) were present in all these transformants. This is the first report on transforming genes in duck primary hepatic cancer as well as tumor-adjacent liver tissue.
