Emotional Coping Strategies for Informal Caregivers of Hospitalized Patients: A Study of Distress and Overload.

Purpose: Informal caregivers constitute a vulnerable population group that has forsaken their activities and life projects with the sole purpose of caring for a dependent individual without receiving any form of compensation in return. Emotionally, this population has been neglected by both the state and family members, exacerbating distress levels among them. The objective is to analyze the impact of emotional coping strategies on the experiences of distress and emotional burden among adult informal caregivers tending to hospitalized individuals. Sample and Methods: The role of emotional coping strategies in caregiver burden and psychological distress was examined in 460 informal adult caregivers from Guayaquil, Ecuador, who participated in an online survey. The instruments used included the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS 21), the Zarit Burden Inventory (ZBI), and the Emotional Coping Questionnaire (Cuestionario de Afrontamiento Emocional). The analysis involved a multiple regression to iteratively select variables, aiming to build a simpler and more explanatory model. Results: Employing multiple regression analysis with a stepwise model selection procedure, it was found that 16.5% of the variance in depression, 19.5% of the variance in anxiety, 19.8% of the variance in stress, and 32% of the variance in burden were predicted by specific coping strategies. Additionally, the impact of burden was estimated by the participants' gender, with greater burden observed among males due to societal role expectations. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of emotional coping in the experience of informal caregivers and suggests that psychological interventions should focus on developing adaptive strategies to manage the stress and emotional burden associated with caregiving.

Reflexões para a prática clínica ética-estética-política a partir da arte de Ernesto Neto / Reflexiones para la práctica clínica ética-estética-política desde la arte de Ernesto Neto / Reflections for an ethic-aesthetic-political clinical practice through Ernesto Neto's work of art

Este artigo propõe uma articulação entre arte contemporânea e clínica psicológica a partir da obra de Ernesto Neto. Auxiliados pelas perspectivas feministas e filosóficas pós-estruturalistas, problematizamos a clínica a fim de propor uma prática éticaestética-política voltada às interrupções dos modos de produção de subjetividade que normatizam a existência, e substituí-los pela produção de estados de arte que estimulam as diferenças e singularizações. Assim, abordaremos quatro pilares de problematização: a) arte e clínica; b) arte e estudos feministas; c) arte e filosofia; d) arte e corporeidade. A obra de arte contemporânea possibilita aos sujeitos repensarem sua relação com o mundo, mostrando um espaço de fuga do cotidiano, em que o sujeito deixa de pensar para respirar a própria vida pela via da sensação e não mais pela razão. Assim, o sujeito é convidado a forçar o pensamento a pensar pelo sentir e não pelo representar (AU).

This paper proposes a link between contemporary art and clinical psychology inspired by Ernesto Neto's work. Trough feminist and post-structuralist philosophical perspectives, we raise clinical issues to propose an ethical-aesthetic-political practice aiming to interrupt the modes of production of subjectivity, which normalize the existence, and to substitute them for the production of modes of art that stimulate differences and singularizations. Therefore, we follow four pillars of questioning: a) art and clinical practice; b) art and feminist studies; c) art and philosophy; d) art and corporeality. Contemporary art allows the subjects rethink their relationship with the world, opening up possibilities for a daily escape space, in which the subject stop thinking to feel life itself through sensation but not reasoning. So the subject is asked to think by means of feeling, not of representation (AU).

Este trabajo propone un vínculo entre el arte contemporáneo y la psicología desde la obra de Ernesto Neto. Ayudado por la perspectiva filosófica post-estructuralista, problematizamos la clínica a fin de proponer una práctica ética-estética-política orientada a las interrupciones de procesos de producción de subjetividad que regulan la existencia, para incitar la producción de estados de arte que estimulan las diferencias y singularizaciones. Seguiremos cuatro reflexiones: a) el arte y la práctica clínica; b) estudios de arte y feministas; c) el arte y la filosofía; d) el arte y la corporalidad. El arte contemporánea permite que los sujetos replanteen su relación con el mundo, posibilitando un espacio de escape diaria, en la que el sujeto impensa a pensar la vida no más pela razón más pela sensación. Entonces, se pide al sujeto que forcé la mente para pensar pela sensación e no pela representación (AU).

Concepções homofóbicas de estudantes do ensino médio / Conceptions homophobes des élèves du secondaire / Concepciones homofóbicas de los estudiantes de secundaria / Homophobic conceptions of high school students

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de um estudo realizado com 2.159 alunos e alunas do ensino médio de três cidades do interior paulista. Os dados, obtidos pelo uso de uma escala Likert, foram analisados por uma técnica estatística multivariada. Análise fatorial foi realizada, e seis fatores (extraídos pelo método das componentes principais e o método de rotação oblíqua) favoreceram a interpretação das possíveis correlações entre as concepções homofóbicas apresentadas nos itens. O estudo mostrou que a tolerância moderada em relação à homossexualidade dos jovens da amostra é uma realidade que necessita de atenção das políticas públicas em educação, visando estratégias para a desconstrução de estereótipos de gênero e erradicação da homofobia, lesbofobia e transfobia entre adolescentes.

Cet article présente les résultats d’une étude menée avec 2,159 lycéens et lycéennes provenants de trois villes à la campagne de l’État de São Paulo, au Brésil. Les données obtenues par une échelle de Likert ont été analysées par une technique statistique multivariée. En ce qui concerne l’analyse factorielle, la méthode utilisée pour extraire les facteurs était le principal composant et la méthode de rotation oblique, dans lequel les six facteurs obtenus ont aidé à l’interprétation des corrélations possibles entre les points de vue présentés dans les articles homophobes. L’étude a révélé que la tolérance modérée pour les homosexuels, les lesbiennes et les personnes transgenres dans ce jeune échantillon est une réalité qui a besoin d’attention des politiques publiques en matière d’éducation ciblant les stratégies pour la déconstruction des stéréotypes de genre et l’éradication de l’homophobie, lesbophobie et la transphobie parmi les adolescents.

El estudio reveló que la tolerancia moderada para gays, lesbianas y transexuales en los jóvenes de la amuestra es una realidad que necesita la atención de las políticas públicas en materia de educación dirigidas a las estrategias para la deconstrucción de los estereotipos de género y la erradicación de la homofobia, lesbofobia y transfobia entre los adolescentes.

This paper presents the results of a study carried on with 2,159 male and female high school students from three cities in the countryside of São Paulo State, Brazil. The data obtained by a Likert scale were analyzed by a multivariate statistical technique. Regarding the factor analysis, the method used for extracting the factors was the major component and oblique rotation method, in which the six factors obtained aid to interpreting the possible correlations among the homophobic views presented in items. The study revealed that moderate tolerance for gay, lesbian and transgender people in this young sample is a reality that needs attention of public policies in education targeting strategies for the deconstruction of gender stereotypes and eradication of homophobia, lesbophobia and transphobia among adolescents.

Corpos, subjetivações estéticas e arte e feminismos: passagens na pesquisa em Psicologia / Bodies, aesthetic subjectivation and art and feminism: passages into research in Psychology

Tendo em vista o ativismo dos feminismos, tanto nos movimentos sociais quanto nas artes, na promoção de novos modos de subjetivação e modos de existência múltiplos e voltados às práticas de liberdade, propomo-nos a refletir sobre os fazeres artísticos feministas em passagens políticas que se valem de uma força inventiva/afirmativa do corpo enquanto estratégia de subversão e resistência para propor outras formas de viver, inclusive, a pesquisa em Psicologia.O texto se volta às estéticas feministas, nas artes visuais, nas quais o corpo se torna um território para experimentação, discutindo ainda a tradução destas estéticas a uma prática de pesquisa em Psicologia.(AU)

Considering the activism of feminisms, both in social movements as in arts, in promoting new modes of subjectivation and multiple modes of existence turned to the practices of freedom, we aim to reflect on feminist art practices in intersection with political passages that use an inventive/affirmative force of the body as subversive and resistance strategy to propose other ways of living, including, the research in Psychology. The article turns to feminist aesthetic in the visual arts in which the body becomes a territory for experimentation. In addition the authors discuss the translation of these aesthetic into practical research in Psychology.(AU)

Em consonância com uma psicologia mais afeita ao devir do que às essências, a proposta deste artigo é fundamentar a importância de se compreender a tradicional concepção de subjetividade enquanto um processo de subjetivação, principalmente no que tange as discussões sobre identidade e gênero na atualidade. Feito isso, traçamos algumas aproximações entre arte e psicologia, compreendendo a primeira como um potente dispositivo para favorecer modos de subjetivação que tenham a diferença como inerência relacional. Por fim, lançamos nossos olhares em alguns fragmentos da obra Cremaster do artista contemporâneo Mathew Barney para perceber o modo como a obra ultrapassa os binarismos de gênero e lança linhas pós-identitárias de subjetivação.(AU)

In line with a psychology more attached to the "becoming [devenir]" rather than to the essence, the goal of this paper is to ground the importance of understanding subjectivity as a process, mainly when regarding our current discussions about identity and gender. After that, we do some linkage between art and psychology. For us, art is understood as a powerfulmanner to encourage modes of subjectivation that have difference as an inherited relation. Lastly, we draw our attention upon some fragments of the contemporaneous artist, Mathew Barney's work-of-art (specially, "Cremaster"), to see how it runs through the binaries of gender boundaries and launches post-identity lines of subjectivation.(AU)

Historicamente, o dispositivo da sexualidade autoriza as famílias a serem as guardiãs das normas sobre a sexualidade de seus membros, garantindo a heteronormatividade a partir da exclusão de toda dissidência a essa norma, ou seja, por meio da homofobia. A partir de uma pesquisa que teve como participantes mulheres dissidentes da heteronormatividade, acessadas pela técnica snow-ball, com as quais foram realizadas entrevistas que produziram Narrativas de Histórias de Vida, analisadas à luz das teorias pós-estruturalistas, privilegiamos o estudo da manifestação da homofobia na família, desenvolvendo uma genealogia de seus efeitos detratores, mas também apontando os modos de resistência a esse processo. Esse locus de manifestação da homofobia, obscurecido pela intimidade do mundo privado, é ainda uma seara pouco discutida nos estudos nacionais e potencializa os danos causados pela discriminação nos espaços macrossociais. Sexuality device authorizes families to become the guardians of its members' sexuality, ensuring the exclusion of any kind of dissidence from heteronormativity by means of reinforcement of homophobia. This paper presents the analyses of female participants who are dissident of heteronormativity. They were accessed through snow-ball technique and were interviewed. After transcribing their interviews, the researcher produced narratives of their lives with were corroborated with the participants. Data were analyzed from a poststructuralist perspective. By then, we privileged the study of the manifestation of homophobia in the family, developing a genealogy of their detractors effects, but also highlighting modes of resistance to it. This locus of manifestation of homophobia, obscured by the intimacy of the private world, is still a fairly discussed topic in national studies and maximizes the damage caused by discrimination in macro social spaces. We pointed out, then, family as an important target of action for public policies which aim the protection of human and civil rights, as well as all kinds of violence and discrimination(AU)

Tipos e consequências da violência sexual sofrida por estudantes do interior paulista na infância e/ou adolescência / Types and consequences of sexual abuse occurred in childhood and/or adolescence among students of the countryside of São Paulo

Discutem-se os tipos de Violência Sexual (VS) sofridos na infância e/ou adolescência e suas vicissitudes, nas trajetórias sexuais de 236 adolescentes, de ambos os sexos, cursando o Ensino Médio no interior do Oeste Paulista que declararam ter sofrido um ou mais tipos de violência sexual. Dentre esses tipos, destacamos a Violência Doméstica Sexual (VDS), aqui definida como intrafamiliar. Nesse caso, observamos que, dentre os 236 adolescentes com histórico de VDS, 94 (39.8%) declararam ter pensado em suicídio e 39 (16.5%) disseram ter tentado, sendo que 35 (89.7%) deles se declararam heterossexuais (27 [77.1%] do sexo feminino) e 4 não-heterossexuais (3 bissexuais e 1 "outro", sendo todos do sexo feminino). A maioria das vítimas finda por relatar o ocorrido aos amigos e responsáveis, mas pouco ou nada é feito, em termos de medidas protetivas a elas.

This paper aims to discuss the types of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) occurred in childhood and/or adolescence and their consequences in a sample of 236 high school students of both sexes living in the countryside of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, who declared to have suffered one or more types of CSA. We observed that among the 234 adolescents with report of SV, 39 (16.5%) declared to have attempted suicide, being 35 (89.7%) of them auto declared heterosexual (27 [77.1%] female) and 4 (19.0%) non-heterosexual (3 bisexuals and 1 "other"; all female). Most of the victims reported the event to their friends and adults in charge, but little (or nothing) was done in terms of protective measures to them.

Ideações e tentativas de suicídio em adolescentes com práticas sexuais hetero e homoeróticas / Suicide thoughts and attempts of suicide in adolescents with hetero and homoerotic sexual practices

Esta pesquisa, que teve como população-alvo adolescentes com idade entre 12 e 20 anos, residentes em três municípios do interior Paulista, buscou conhecer as associações entre orientação sexual e ideações e tentativas de suicídio. Corroborando com as pesquisas internacionais, evidenciou-se que os não heterossexuais têm mais chances de pensarem e tentarem suicídio, comparativamente aos heterossexuais. Todavia, encontrou-se que, dentre o grupo de adolescentes que se assumiram não heterossexuais, os que estão mais vulneráveis são aqueles que se autodefiniram bissexuais e "outros", os quais constituem o grupo de pessoas menos assumidas, dentre os não heterossexuais. Do mesmo modo, constatou-se que os respondentes apresentam diversas opiniões e valores homofóbicos, sexistas e heterocentrados, o que revela ser o espaço escolar, onde se encontram esses jovens não heterossexuais, bastante carregado de posicionamentos discursivos discriminatórios. Conclui-se que a questão do suicídio é uma problemática de saúde pública e que a população de jovens não heterossexuais necessita de abordagens específicas para a prevenção e de atenção relativas a essa conduta.

Apontamentos sobre a construção sócio-histórica de estigmas e estereótipos em relação ao homoerotismo entre mulheres / Notes about the socio-historical construction of stigmas and stereotypes in relation to homoerotism among women

Esse artigo objetiva contar a história sobre o homoerotismo entre mulheres nas sociedades ocidentais e na modernidade visando perceber o que embasa estigmas e estereótipos sobre a lesbianidade na atualidade. Para isso, coletou-se em trabalhos científicos sobre a sexualidade feminina e a homossexualidade informações referentes à temática da lesbianidade – escassa e de difícil acesso. O machismo e o falocentrismo colocaram um manto sobre essa história, fazendo-a invizibilizada e ilegitimada. Tirando a lesbianidade do obscurantismo, possibilita-se problematizações psicossociais que podem contribuir para a produção de qualidade de vida para pessoas que são movidas por perspectivas binárias de estigmas e estereótipos. This article aims at to count the history about the homoerotism among women in the western societies and in the modernity seeking to notice what bases stigmata and stereotypes on lesbianity at the present time. For that, it was collected in scientific works about feminine sexuality and homosexuality information regarding the lesbianity theme – scarce and of difficult access. The macho system and the phallocentrism put a mantle on that history, making it invizibilizated and ilegitimated. Removing the lesbianity from the obscurantism could contribute to the reflection on public policy issues that pertain to lesbian women and with homoerotic relationships and practices and contribute for the production of life quality for people that are moved by binary perspectives of stigmata and stereotypes. A "moldura" em análise / The "setting" in analysis

Considerando que nossa prática tem o intuito de desconstruir estigmas e estereótipos socialmente produzidos e institucionalizados a partir das normatividades de gênero e sexualidade, este trabalho propõe uma reflexão em torno de duas questões que nos tem causado inquietações: o sigilo e a ética relativamente ao atendimento dos pacientes que nos procuram. Isto porque, a maioria dentre estes são LGBTs (lésbica, gay, bissexual, travesti, transexual e transgênero), e que por estarem em situação de “guetificação” criada pela homofobia e redimensionada pelo contexto de cidade do interior, estão sujeitos a conviver e a se relacionar, o que facilita serem atendidos pelo mesmo projeto de estágio ou terem amigos/as ou namorados/as neste. E é nessa configuração, que o grupo encontra-se interpelado por dilemas éticos que se impõe à relação terapêutica, forçando-o a se reposicionar a respeito da estética, isto é, da “moldura” – setting; da política do tratamento, ou seja, da transferência; e da ética e do sigilo, forçando estes conceitos ao limite. Considering that our practice is intended to deconstruct stigmas and stereotypes socially produced and institutionalized from normativities of gender and sexuality, this work proposes a reflection on two issues which has caused concerns: the secrecy and the ethics in relation to the patients who come to us. This is because, most of these are LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite, transsexual and transgender), and that by being in a situation of "ghettoization” created by homophobia and resized by inner city context, are subject to coexist and to relate, what makes be serviced by the same internship project or have friends or lovers in this. And, in this configuration, the group is questioned by ethical dilemmas which imposes on the therapeutic relationship, forcing him to repositioning the respect of aesthetics, this is, the "picture frame" – setting, the treatment policy, the transference, the ethics and the secrecy, forcing these concepts to the limit. Adoção: gênero, cidadania e direitos humanos / Adoption: gender, citizenship and human rights

A adoção é uma das formas legítimas de constituição familiar, e é a mais cerceada por preconceitos, dúvidas e mitos os quais a prejudicam, haja vista o enorme contingente de crianças à espera de uma família, em instituições asilares. Hoje, mais do que o preconceito em relação ao ato de adotar, existem preconceitos em relação à adoção por homossexuais, à adoção por pessoas solteiras e tantos outros; através de olhares preconceituosos, machistas, heteronormativos e biologizantes, impossibilitase a adoção e a realização do sonho de tantas crianças e adultos de terem uma família afetiva e efetiva. Adoption is one of the legitimate forms of family formation and is the most restrained by prejudices, doubts and myths which the harm. Considering the huge number of children waiting for a family in nursing homes. Today more than bigotry against the act of adoption, there is a prejudice against adoption by homosexuals, adoption by single people and so many others, through the looks biased, sexist, heteronormative and biological, to preclude the adoption and implementation of dream of many children and adults have a family affective and effective. Apontamentos sobre o atentar contra a própria vida, homofobia e adolescências / Notes on attempts against life, homophobia and adolescences

Trata-se de um estudo piloto transversal analítico descritivo realizado em maio de 2008 em uma Escola do Ensino Médio de uma cidade do interior do Oeste paulista. A amostra que compôs o estudo corresponde a 108 adolescentes, de ambos os sexos, entre 14 e 20 anos cursando as três séries do Ensino Médio. Observamos que os/as jovens da amostra incorporaram o discurso preventivista pelo menos durante as primeiras relações sexuais com o sexo oposto. Suas crenças sobre as sexualidades não-heterossexuais revelaram-se homofóbicas e segregatórias. Encontramos que 25.0% da amostra já pensou em se matar e dentre estes 40% já tentou, havendo maior concentração entre as jovens. Acreditamos estar diante de um grande desafio para as políticas públicas de Educação e Saúde, respectivamente, no sentido de garantir o acesso e pleno direito de expressão das homossexualidades no espaço escolar, bem como lidarem de modo preventivo em relação à Saúde Mental dos/das jovens que freqüentam a escola. This paper discusses data from a pilot analytical traverse descriptive study accomplished in May of 2008 in a Public High School in a city of the interior of the Western São Paulo State, Brazil. The sample that composed this study corresponds to 108 adolescents of both sexes, aging between 14 and 20 years and registered in the one of the three series of the high school period. We noticed that the adolescents from this sample assimilated the prevention speech at least during their first sexual relationships. Their belives in no-heterosexual sexualities revealed to be homophobic and segregating. We found that 25.0% of the sample already thought about killed themselves and among these 40% already tried, having larger concentration among female students. It seems to be a great challenge for the public Education and Health policies, respectively, in the sense of guaranteeing the access and full right of expression of homosexualities in the school environment as well as working towards a preventive way in relation to youth’s Mental Health Mental in this context. Corpo, afecto e sexualidade: uma experiência da abordagem das sexualidades a partir das artes / Body, afection and sexuality: an experience with arts and sexuality in sex education

Este trabalho, realizado no primeiro semestre de 2004 junto a 15 professoras de Educação Artística e outras disciplinas da rede pública de Ensino Fundamental e Médio, consistiu em um ciclo de oficinas sobre Corpo, Afectos e Sexualidades eliciadas a partir de imagens de esculturas, quadros ou materiais da mídia representativas de diversas culturas do ocidente e do oriente, com as quais abordamos temas como gênero, sexo, gravidez na adolescência, paternidade responsável, prazer, erotismo, violência doméstica, orientação sexual, direitos humanos e cidadania... This paper is about an experience with 15 schoolteachers of Arts and other disciplines from Public Schools that happened in the first semester of 2004. To do so, a cycle of workshops on Body, Affection and Sexuality started from images of sculptures, paintings or media that represented different eastern and western cultures was held. With these workshops we discussed themes such as genre, sex, pregnancy in adolescence, parental responsibilities, pleasure, eroticism, domestic violence, sexual orientation, human and sexual rights and citizenship... Pesquisa narrativa e psicanálise: em busca do corpo-sem-órgão / Narrative inquiry and psychoanalysis: searching the body-without-organs

O artigo fala da estigmatização de pessoas nascidas com uma condição física, clinicamente, denominada extrofia vesical. Investigando o modo como essa condição é apropriada pelas práticas médicas, assistencialistas, familiares e educacionais, concluiu-se que elas colocam o(a) seu (sua) portador(a) no lugar de "excluído" da norma-padrão. Assim, respectivamente, para a medicina, essa condição é rotulada como "anomalia genética", para a religião, como "mistério divino", para a família, como "desgraça" e, para a escola, como "excepcionalidade". Estar em um desses lugares (ou em todos), faz com que essas pessoas se sintam limitadas em seus agenciamentos. Utilizando a narrativa de vida como método de pesquisa em psicanálise, sugerimos uma "fórmula" de desarticulação desses rótulos: a desnaturalização, cuja propriedade é a instauração de uma corp@logia, isto é, de uma clínica dos afetos e das linhas-de-fuga que atravessam um corpo-sem-órgãos para nele abrir caminhos para novos agenciamentos.(AU)

This paper concerns the stigmatization of people who were born with a physical condition known, in Medicine, as vesical extrophy. It focuses on the ways the medical, welfare, familiar and educational practices label this condition. It presents arguments considering that these practices place their bearers in the position of "excluded from normal standards", and respectively, label it as a "genetic anomaly" (medicine), a "divine mystery" (religion), a "misfortune" (to the family) and an "exceptionality" (to schools). Being in one of these positions (or in all of them) narrows the arrangements of these people. We have proposed a way to deconstruct these labels (de)naturalization by means of Narrative Inquiry as a research method into psychoanalysis. The major feature of this research practice is the promotion of a body@ntology - the clinical construction of new sensations and lines-of-escape that cross a body-without-organs and, within it, produces new modes of existence.(AU)
