RESUMEN

Whether in the field of medical care, or in people's daily life and health protection, the importance of masks has been paid more and more attention. Acne, the most common complication after wearing masks, which is also called maskne, has been successfully introduced into the common language as a common topic of dermatologist consultations. This study aims to study the changes of microflora in maskne patients and healthy controls before and after wearing masks. In the summer of 2023, we collected a total of 50 samples from 15 maskne patients and 10 healthy controls before and after wearing surgical masks for a long time. 16 S ribosomal DNA sequencing and identification technology with V3-V4 variable region were adopted to explore the microbiome changes caused by mask wearing, analyze the changes in microbial diversity, and make interaction network. LDA effect size analysis was used to identify which bacteria showed significant changes in their relative abundance from phylum to genus. After wearing a mask, the microbiome of the maskne patients changed significantly more than that of the healthy controls, with both α diversity and ß diversity lower than those of maskne patients before wearing masks and those of healthy controls after wearing masks. Co-occurrence network analysis showed that compared with other groups, the network of maskne patients after wearing masks for a long time had the lowest connectivity and complexity, but the highest clustering property, while the opposite was true for healthy controls. Many microbes that are potentially beneficial to the skin decreased significantly after wearing a mask. There was almost no difference in healthy controls before and after wearing a mask.

PURPOSE: Partial correlation analysis was performed to account for the interference of steatosis changes and inflammatory factors, to determine the true correlation between fibrosis and IVIM parameters (Dfast, Dslow, and F), and to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of IVIM for liver fibrosis. METHODS: A total of 106 patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) examined by IVIM from November 2016 to November 2023 at our hospital were retrospectively included. Preliminary analysis of each IVIM parameter and correlations with pathological findings were performed using Spearman correlation analysis, and partial correlation analysis was used to exclude the interference of other pathological factors, thus yielding the true correlations between IVIM parameters (Dfast, Dslow, and F) and pathology. The diagnostic efficacy of IVIM parameters for diagnosing MASLD was assessed via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS: Spearman correlation analysis of all the IVIM parameters revealed correlations with steatosis, lobular inflammation, and ballooning. Partial correlation analysis indicated that Dfast was correlated with the pathological fibrosis stage (r = - 0.593, P < 0.001), Dslow was correlated with the pathological steatosis score (r = - 0.313, P < 0.05), and F was correlated with the pathological fibrosis stage and steatosis score (r = - 0.456 and 0.255, P < 0.001 and P < 0.05). In the diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis, significant hepatic fibrosis, advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, Dfast achieved areas under the ROC curve of 0.763, 0.801, 0.853, and 0.897, respectively. The threshold values for diagnosing different fibrosis stages using Dfast (10-3 mm2/s) were 57.613, 54.587, 52.714, and 51.978, respectively. CONCLUSION: According to our partial correlation analysis, there was a moderate correlation between Dfast and F according to fibrosis stage, and Dfast was not influenced by inflammation or steatosis when diagnosing fibrosis in MASLD patients. A relatively close Dfast threshold is insufficient for accurately and noninvasively assessing various stages of MASLD fibrosis. In clinical practice, this approach can be considered an alternative method for the preliminary assessment of fibrosis in MASLD patients.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and image processing time of the dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) exchange model in liver fibrosis staging and compare it to the efficacy of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). Methods: The subjects were 45 patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) who underwent MRE and DCE-MRI in our hospital. Liver biopsy results were available for all patients. Spearman rank correlation coefficients were used to compare the correlations among MRE, DCE-MRI and liver fibrosis parameters. Quantitative DCE-MRI parameters, MRE-derived liver stiffness measurement (LSM), and the results of a combined DCE-MRI + MRE logistic regression model were compared in terms of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). We also compared the scanning and postprocessing times of the MRE and DCE-MRI techniques. Results: The correlation coefficients between the following parameters of interest and liver fibrosis were as follows: capillary permeability-surface area product (PS; DCE-MRI parameter), -0.761; portal blood flow (Fp; DCE-MRI parameter), -0.754; MRE-LSM, 0.835. Some DCE-MRI parameters (PS, Fp) had slightly greater AUC values than MRE-LSM for diagnosing the presence or absence of liver fibrosis, and the combined model had the highest AUC value for all stages except F4, but there was no significant difference in the diagnostic efficacy of the DCE-MRI, MRE, and combined models for any stage of fibrosis. The average scanning times for MRE and DCE-MRI were 17 s and 330 s, respectively, and the average postprocessing times were 45.5 s and 342.7 s, respectively. Conclusions: In the absence of MRE equipment, DCE-MRI represents an alternative technique. However, MRE is a quicker and simpler method for assessing fibrosis than DCE-MRI in the clinic.

Background and aims: The tumor microenvironment (TME) has pivotal parts within multiple tumor models of onset/progression, such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This bibliometric analysis was developed to explore trends and research niches revolving around TME in TNBC. Methods: Web of Science Core Collection was queried for identifying studies linked with TME in TNBC, after which the VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R software programs were used to conduct bibliometric analyses and to generate corresponding visualizations. Results: In total, this study included 1,604 studies published from 2005-2023. The USA and China exhibited the highest numbers of citations, and the research institutions with the greatest output in this field included Harvard University, the University of Texas System, and Fudan University. Ying Wang from Sun Yat-Sen University was the most published and most cited author in this space. The highest number of articles were published in Cancer, while the greatest co-citation number was evident in Breast Cancer Research. Important keywords related to this research topic included metastasis, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and nanoparticles. In particular, pembrolizumab, immunotherapy, nanoparticles, combination treatment, and biomarkers were topics of marked interest in recent reports. Conclusion: The TME in TNBC is an area of rapidly growing and evolving research interest, with extensive global collaboration helping to drive this field forward. Antitumor therapies targeting the TME in TNBC patients represent an emerging topic of future research, providing opportunities for translational findings. The results of this analysis may provide additional guidance for work focused on the TME in TNBC.

Adequate blood supply, a prerequisite for flap survival after grafting, makes angiogenesis of the flap the biggest problem to be solved. Researches have been conducted around vascularisation in correlation with flap grafting. However, bibliometric analyses systematically examining this research field are lacking. As such, we herein sought to conduct comprehensive comparative analyses of the contributions of different researchers, institutions, and countries to this research space in an effort to identify trends and hotspots in angiogenesis and vascularisation in the context of flap grafting. Publications pertaining to angiogenesis and vascularisation in the context of flap grafting were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. References were then analysed and plotted using Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace V. In total, 2234 papers that were cited 40 048 times (17.63 citations/paper) were included in this analysis. The greatest number of studies were from the United States, with these studies exhibiting both the highest number of citations (13 577) and the greatest overall H-index (60). For The institutions that published the greatest number of studies were WENZHOU MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (681), while UNIVERSITY OF ERLANGEN NUREMBERG has the highest number of citations (1458), and SHANGHAI JIAO TONG UNIVERSITY holds the greatest overall H-index (20). The greatest number of studies in this research space were published by Gao WY, while Horch RE was the most commonly cited researcher in the field. The VOS viewer software clustered relevant keywords into three clusters, with clusters 1, 2, 3, and 4 corresponding to studies in which the keywords 'anatomy', 'survival', 'transplantation', 'therapy' most frequently appeared. The most promising research hotspot-related terms in this field included 'autophagy', 'oxidative stress', 'ischemia/reperfusion injury', which exhibited a most recent average appearing year (AAY) of 2017 and after. Generally speaking, the results of this analysis indicate that the number of articles exploring angiogenesis and flap-related research has risen steadily, with the United States and China being the two countries publishing the greatest proportion of studies in this field. The overall focus of these studies has shifted away from 'infratest and tissue engineering' towards 'mechanisms'. In the future, particular attention should be paid to emerging research hotspots, which include 'ischemia/reperfusion injury' and treatments for promoting vascularization, such as 'platelet-rich plasma'. In light of these findings, funding agencies should continue increasing their investment in the exploration of the concrete mechanisms and interventional therapeutic relevance of angiogenesis during flap transplantation.

Background: Although the epidemiology of Clostridioides difficile is important, few studies examining transmission of C. difficile have been reported, especially in wards with low detection rates, such as neurosurgery departments. Purpose: This retrospective study investigated the epidemiology of C. difficile infection in a neurosurgery department over a 24-month period, particularly examining the transmission of C. difficile using whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Methods: Clostridioides difficile strains were isolated and identified from fecal samples of neurosurgical patients. Toxigenic strains were typed using multilocus sequence typing, PCR ribotyping and using capillary gel electrophoresis. WGS was used to characterize C. difficile ST-37/RT017 isolates, and comparative genomic analyses were performed to compare genomic differences between all ST-37 strains from other wards. The susceptibility to 8 antimicrobial agents was examined using the E-test. Results: Comparative genomic analyses revealed that isolates obtained from neurosurgical patients clustered into two lineages. Only strains s11052403 and s10090304, respectively, isolated from a patient on the 8th floor of the neurosurgery ward and a patient on the 9th floor, were highly similar, exhibiting differences of only two single-nucleotide polymorphisms. All C. difficile ST-37/RT017 strains isolated from neurosurgical patients were resistant to multiple classes of antibiotics. Conclusion: There is an urgent need to raise awareness of C. difficile infection, and epidemiologic surveillance is required to detect clustering and transmission of C. difficile cases in China. Strict disinfection of the environment is essential to reduce transmission of C. difficile and achieve effective infection control in the hospital setting.

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) had not yet been approved therapy. Electro-acupuncture (EA) has been reported to have potential efficacy. However, high-quality clinical evidence was still lacking. METHODS: NASH patients were randomized and allocated to either sham acupuncture (SA) or EA group in a 1:1 ratio, with the patient blinded. Each patient received 36 sessions of SA or EA treatment over 12 weeks, followed by additional 4 weeks. The primary outcome was the changes in relative liver fat content measured by magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF). RESULTS: A total of 60 patients were enrolled. From baseline to week 12, the reduction of relative liver fat content measured by MRI-PDFF in the EA group (- 33.6%, quantile range: - 52.9%, - 22.7%) was significantly more significant than that in the SA group (- 15.8%, quantile range: - 36.1%, - 2.7%) (p = 0.022). Furthermore, the EA group had more patients who achieved MRI-PDFF to 30% reduction at week 12 (53.3% vs. 25.9%, p = 0.035). EA treatment also significantly reduced body weight (- 3.0 vs. + 0.1 kg, p = 0.034) and BMI (- 1.5 vs. - 0.2 kg/m2, p = 0.013) at week 16. Except for AST (- 27.4 vs. - 16.2 U/L, p = 0.015), other biochemical varieties, including ALT, fasting-glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride, showed no statistically significant difference. Both groups measured no significant changes in liver stiffness by magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). There were no serious adverse events in either group. CONCLUSIONS: Twelve weeks of EA effectively and safely reduces relative liver fat content in NASH patients. Further multicenter randomized controlled studies are needed. Bibliometric analyses are often used as a means of visualising the knowledge base and associated trends and patterns in a target scientific field based on a quantitative review of the corresponding literature. In this study, we explore the current status of research pertaining to biofilms in wound healing and elucidate trends in this research space. Through this process, we gain insight into findings from papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. These references were then analysed and plotted using Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace V. The results provide a fresh perspective regarding global trends and hotspots in biofilm-related wound healing research. These findings also offer a foundation that researchers can use to identify active hotspots of scientific interest to guide further research endeavours.

Purpose: Infection is the most common complication following breast implant surgery. Nevertheless, the systematic administration of antibiotics after breast implant surgery has been subjected to controversial debate. In this study, we sought to elucidate the association between infection and the use of antibiotics as an aftermath of breast implantation surgical procedures. Methods: Relevant studies were identified from PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE search mining. The extracted data included study type, basic characteristics, administrated antibiotic information, and clinical outcomes. Random-effects models were utilized to estimate outcomes, while study quality, statistical bias, and heterogeneity were also analyzed. Results: A total of 7 studies involving a total of 9,147 subjects were included. The results demonstrated that the use of antibiotics after breast implantation reduced the incidence of infection (risk ratio [RR]: 0.65, 95% CI, 0.46-0.90). Nevertheless, smoking, obesity and diabetes type II are risk factors for postoperative infections. Sensitivity analysis verified the robustness of the results. Conclusions: Our study identified the administration of antibiotics after breast implantation as an intervention that decreased the incidence of infection. Smoking, obesity, and diabetes type II are risk factors for postoperative infections. These findings strongly suggest that timely and effective antibiotic interventions will be crucial in future clinical practice, which may reduce the risk of postoperative infection following breast implantation.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is increasingly recognized as a serious disease that can lead to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and death. However, there is no effective drug to thwart the progression of the disease. Development of new drugs for NASH is an urgent clinical need. Liver biopsy plays a key role in the development of new NASH drugs. Histological findings based on liver biopsy are currently used as the main inclusion criteria and the primary therapeutic endpoint in NASH clinical trials. However, there are inherent challenges in the use of liver biopsy in clinical trials, such as evaluation reliability, sampling error, and invasive nature of the procedure. In this article, we review the advantages and value of liver histopathology based on liver biopsy in clinical trials of new NASH drugs. We also discuss the challenges and limitations of liver biopsy and identify future drug development directions.

DBTRU was proposed by Thang and Binh in 2015. As a variant of NTRU, the integer polynomial ring is replaced by two binary truncated polynomial rings GF(2)[x]/(xn+1). DBTRU has some advantages over NTRU in terms of security and performance. In this paper, we propose a polynomial-time linear algebra attack against the DBTRU cryptosystem, which can break DBTRU for all recommended parameter choices. The paper shows that the plaintext can be achieved in less than 1 s via the linear algebra attack on a single PC.

PURPOSE: Glioma is a malignant tumor in the central nervous system. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) RNF144A-AS1 exerts a regulatory effect in cancers, but its role in glioma remains obscure and needs to be further study. METHODS: Expressions of RNF144A-AS1, miR-665 and High-mobility group A1 (HMGA1) in glioma tissues and/or cells were determined by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The relationship between miR-665 and RNF144A-AS1/HMGA1 was determined by bioinformatics and Dual-Luciferase Reporter assay. The effect of RNF144A-AS1 on the biological functions of glioma cells was confirmed by loss and gain experiments (including cell counting kit 8, clone formation, wound healing, Transwell, qRT-PCR and western blot). The regulatory mechanism of RNF144A-AS1/miR-665/HMGA1 axis on glioma was confirmed by rescue experiments. RESULTS: RNF144A-AS1 and HMGA1 were high-expressed in gliomas, and miR-665 was low-expressed in gliomas, which led to the increase of glioma cell viability, proliferation, migration and invasion ability and insufficient apoptosis ability. Overexpression of RNF144A-AS1 suppressed the expressions of Bax and cleaved caspase-3, and promoted Bcl-2 expression. RNF144A-AS1 up-regulated the expression of HMGA1 by targeting miR-665, thereby promoting the development of glioma cells. CONCLUSION: RNF144A-AS1/miR-665/HMGA1 axis implicated in the development of glioma.

Background: Acute pancreatitis is the most common serious complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Although, somatostatin (SOM) has been used in the prevention of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP), the efficacy of SOM remains inconsistent. Methods: Electronic databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL, The Cochrane Library), and the Science Citation Index were searched to retrieve relevant studies. Details of the study population, including patients' characteristics, sample size, regimen of drug administration and incidence of PEP, hyperamylasemia and abdominal pain were extracted by two investigators. Data were analyzed with Review Manager 5.3 software. Results: Eleven randomized controlled trials, enrolling a total of 4192 patients, were included in the meta-analysis. After data were pooled, we observed decreased incidence of ERCP-induced outcomes, such as PEP (RR = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.40, 0.98; P = 0.04) and hyperamylasemia (RR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.66, 0.84; P < 0.001) in patients treated with SOM than those with placebo. Subgroup analysis by ethnicity found decreased incidence of PEP and hyperamylasemia in Asia only. Subgroup analysis by treatment schedule and dosage revealed decreased incidence of PEP and hyperamylasemia when SOM were treated with a single bolus or long-term infusion, or at dose above 3000 µg. We did not observed efficacy of SOM on abdominal pain in pooled or subgroup analysis. Conclusion: This meta-analysis of patients undergoing ERCP showed reduced incidence of PEP and hyperamylasemia when SOM was administrated with single bolus, long-term infusion, or high dosage. More data are needed to confirm our findings.

Transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) induces hepatic progenitors to tumor initiating cells through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), thus raising an important drawback for stem cell-based therapy. How to block and reverse TGF-ß1-induced transition is crucial for progenitors' clinical application and carcinogenic prevention. Rat adult hepatic progenitors, hepatic oval cells, experienced E-cadherin to N-cadherin switch and changed to α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) positive cells after TGF-ß1 incubation, indicating EMT. When TGF-ß1 plus EGF were co-administrated to these cells, EGF dose-dependently suppressed the cadherin switch and α-SMA expression. Interestingly, if EGF was applied to TGF-ß1-pretreated cells, the cells that have experienced EMT could return to their epithelial phenotype. Abruption of EGF receptor revealed that EGF exerted its blockage and reversal effects through phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and Akt. These findings suggest an important attribute of EGF on opposing and reversing TGF-ß1 effects, indicating the plasticity of hepatic progenitors.

Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) plays an important role in the proliferation of hepatic progenitors, however, little is known concerning the mechanism(s) through which it influences their differentiation. The differentiation of hepatic progenitors (WB-F344), either stimulated with recombinant CTGF or stably transfected with a CTGF overexpression plasmid, was investigated. Expression of the differentiation markers α-fetoprotein (AFP), albumin (ALB) and cytokeratin-19 (CK-19) was assessed. To confirm the effects of CTGF on progenitor differentiation, cells were treated with an inhibitor (WP631) of CTGF. Treatment of WB-F344 cells with recombinant CTGF for 24 h did not change the survival rate significantly, but the progenitors were enlarged with a decreased nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio. CTGF downregulated the expression of the fetal hepatocyte marker, AFP, while it upregulated the mature hepatocyte cell marker, ALB. The effect of CTGF overexpression plasmid on WB-F344 cell differentiation was consistent with a pattern of direct CTGF stimulation, including decreased AFP and increased ALB expression. Furthermore, the suppression of CTGF induction by an inhibitor was associated with significant inhibition of hepatic progenitor cell differentiation into hepatocytes. Importantly, we showed that differentiated WB-F344 cells by CTGF had in vitro functions characteristic of hepatocytes, including ALB production, glycogen storage and cytochrome P450 activity. Both recombinant CTGF and the CTGF overexpression plasmid induced hepatic progenitor differentiation into hepatocytes. This was suppressed by the CTGF inhibitor.

Elevated tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) expression contributes to excess production of extracellular matrix in liver fibrosis. Herein, we constructed a recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) carrying siRNA of the TIMP-1 gene (rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1) and investigated its effects on liver fibrosis in rats. Two models of rat liver fibrosis, the carbon tetrachloride and bile duct ligation models, were treated with rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1. In the carbon tetrachloride model, rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1 administration attenuated fibrosis severity, as determined by histologic analysis of hepatic collagen accumulation, hydroxyproline content, and concentrations of types I and III collagen in livers and sera. Levels of mRNA and active matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 13 were elevated, whereas levels of mRNA and active MMP-2 were decreased. Moreover, a marked decrease was noted in the expression of α-smooth muscle actin, a biomarker of activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and transforming growth factor-ß1, critical for the development of liver fibrosis. Similarly, rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1 treatment significantly alleviated bile duct ligation-induced liver fibrosis. Furthermore, this treatment dramatically suppressed TIMP-1 expression in HSCs from both model rats. These data indicate that the administration of rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1 attenuated liver fibrosis by directly elevating the function of MMP-13 and diminishing activated HSCs. It also resulted in indirect decreased expression of type I collagen, MMP-2, and transforming growth factor-ß1. In conclusion, rAAV/siRNA-TIMP-1 may be an effective antifibrotic gene therapy agent.

Using the multireference configuration interaction method with a Davidson correction and a large orbital basis set (aug-cc-pVQZ), we obtain an energy grid that includes 32 038 points for the construction of a new analytical potential energy surface (APES) for the Ne + H(2)(+) → NeH(+) + H reaction. The APES is represented as a many-body expansion containing 142 parameters, which are fitted from 31 000 ab initio energies using an adaptive nonlinear least-squares algorithm. The geometric characteristics of the reported APES and the one presented here are also compared. On the basis of the APES we obtained, reaction cross sections are computed by means of quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) calculations and compared with the experimental and theoretical data in the literature.

The coupled cluster singles and doubles method with perturbative treatment of triple excitations is applied to calculate the potentials of M(z)-X complexes (M = Cu, Ag, and Au; X = He, Ne, and Ar; and z = ±1). The bond functions and the basis set superposition errors are considered to obtain accurate interaction energies. The potential energy curves of all complexes are obtained. The vibrational energy levels and the spectroscopic parameters for these complexes are determined. The analytical potential energy functions are also fitted based on the potential energies.

The potential energy curves (PECs) of the bound states of M-X (M=Cu, Ag, and Au and X=He, Ne, and Ar) complexes have been calculated using the coupled cluster singles and doubles method with perturbative treatment of triple excitations. Large basis sets and bond functions, as well as the basis set superposition errors, are employed to obtain accurate PECs. The analytical potential energy functions (APEFs) are fitted using the PECs. The vibrational energy levels and the spectroscopic parameters for the complexes are determined using our APEFs and compared to the theoretical works available at present. We also find that the PECs are bound with similar van der Waals interactions, which implies that He, Ne, and Ar may be used for buffer-gas cooling; and Cu, Ag, and Au may be trapped with a similar method because Cu and Ag have been experimentally trapped with He buffer-gas cooling.
