RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Work to develop a universal tool for the psychological evaluation and measurement of decent work is relatively new. In addition, the Decent Work Questionnaire, which evaluates decent work using a psychological approach, has not yet been adapted and validated in the Turkish sample group. OBJECTIVE: To adapt and validate the Turkish version of the Decent Work Questionnaire and to evaluate the effect of decent work on the job satisfaction among knowledge workers. METHODS: The study sample consisted of 906 knowledge workers. In the process of adapting and validating the Decent Work Questionnaire, the structural validity, internal consistency, convergent validity, divergent validity, and compatibility of the sample group data were tested. The effect of decent work on job satisfaction of knowledge workers was examined using structural equation modeling. RESULTS: The Decent Work Questionnaire was validated in the Turkish sample. The results showed that the reliability coefficients and dimensions of the Decent Work Questionnaire were highly satisfactory and consistent with the scale developers' study. According to another result of the study, decent work was found to have a significant and positive effect on Turkish knowledge workers' job satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: This study will fill gaps in the literature and will also contribute to the evaluation of decent work in all areas of the labor market, identifying its shortcomings and contributing to the development of effective human resource policies.

RESUMEN

Many patients with epilepsy suffer also from coexisting psychological problems. The simultaneous treatment of the epileptic and the psychiatric disorder is necessary for a sufficient anticonvulsant management. Among those psychiatric disorders depressions, psychosis and psychogenic non-epileptic attacks are the most common. The paper presents an overview of classification and the relation between seizures and psychological symptoms and provides some guidelines for psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutical treatment.

RESUMEN

Transcranial electrical or magnetic stimulation was performed in 47 experiments on 42 normal adult subjects. Surface compound muscle action potentials were recorded from the antagonistic tibialis anterior (TA) and soleus (SOL) muscles. A stable late response recorded from SOL during voluntary ankle dorsiflexion is described and called soleus MEP-80. Its origin has been studied with different experimental procedures. (1) It is only obtained during active voluntary dorsiflexion of the ankle within 70-100 msec (mean 86.9 +/- 6.4 msec) whereas passive dorsiflexion does not promote such a response. The size of SOL MEP-80 was always bigger than the primary SOL response. (2) A similar constant response has not been obtained during voluntary plantar flexion from SOL and TA muscles. (3) SOL MEP-80 is not changed significantly by the Jendrassik manoeuvre. (4) It is not obtained or is suppressed when the subject is sitting with the feet free in space. On the other hand, it is obtained when the subject is standing, especially when standing is made difficult. (5) SOL MEP-80 has not been obtained by brain-stem, spinal cord or root stimulation. (6) A later response of longer than 100 msec latency was sometimes obtained at rest but such an S100 soleus response was abolished or transformed to the SOL MEP-80 immediately during ankle dorsiflexion. (7) It is concluded that SOL MEP-80 is a polysynaptic extensor response related to postural mechanisms and originating through convergence of descending motor commands and peripheral sensory feedback.

RESUMEN

We report a patient who had a callosal infarct, showed by Computer Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, without injury to the adjacent hemispheres. Angiography revealed an occlusion of both internal carotid arteries. Besides interhemispheric disconnection with unilateral left agraphia, left tactile anomia, left ideomotor apraxia and left ear auditivoverbal extinction, the patient showed signs of left hemineglect and astasia-abasia, both persistent.

RESUMEN

1. The aim of the present experiments was to examine the question whether the rat atrial natriuretic factor (rANF 1-28) could alter the fractional excretion of sodium (FENa) and other solutes in the frog (Rana esculenta). 2. Although experiments were performed throughout the year possible seasonal changes in the animals were considered in particular. 3. In all frogs, a hypotonic diuresis was induced. 4. Under these conditions in winter frogs, the control FENa was 8.8 +/- 5.8% (15) [means +/- SD (n)], and during rANF administration 7.7 +/- 6.6% (13) (NS). 5. In summer frogs, the control and experimental FENa was 5.2 +/- 2.8% (5) and 6.0 +/- 2.5% (5), respectively (NS). 6. These results show that there was no significant effect of this polypeptide on the fractional excretion of sodium in the frog.

RESUMEN

1. Clearance experiments were performed to study reabsorption of inorganic sulfate (SO4) in the frog kidney. 2. During stepwise elevation of the SO4 concentration in plasma by i.v. sulfate administration (SO4 titration), the absolute reabsorption of SO4 did not increase but kept constant during mild SO4 loading. 3. The maximal reabsorptive capacity for SO4 (TmSO4) was about 0.37 mumol/30 min in this species. 4. The present results do not indicate renal net secretion of SO4 in the frog.

RESUMEN

Synthetic ovine CRF (8 micrograms/rat) injected intravenously in nembutal anaesthetized rats increased not only plasma ACTH and corticosterone but also aldosterone and 18-hydroxycorticosterone concentrations. The maximum elevation occurred 30 min after oCRF administration. 2 h and 4 h after injection the hormone concentrations declined and after 6 h the corticosterone and 18-hydroxycorticosterone values were lower than the corresponding controls. At this time aldosterone remained slightly elevated and ACTH unchanged. 24 h after oCRF injection no difference between the control and oCRF treated animals were evident.

RESUMEN

To determine the effect of CRF administration on in vivo mineralocorticoid release, we performed experiments in rats and in man. In man, plasma aldosterone and 18-hydroxycorticosterone levels increased following i.v. CRF injection. In sitting subjects, the response was greater than in supine subjects, indicating an influence of posture. In the rat, CRF-induced increases in corticosteroid levels were dose-related, the largest response being for corticosterone, followed by 18-hydroxycorticosterone and then by aldosterone. Thus synthetic ovine CRF stimulates not only glucocorticoid but also mineralocorticoid secretion from the adrenals.

RESUMEN

1 KCl relaxed strips of frog stomach muscle. Usually, the effect was biphasic, i.e. contraction followed by relaxation at a concentration of 137 mM. 2 The effect was mimicked by K2SO4. 3 Ouabain (5 and 10 micrograms/ml) blocked the relaxations and reversed them to contractions. The tension of strips was not affected. 4 Phenoxybenzamine (1 microgram/ml) and procaine (20 micrograms/ml) inhibited the relaxations, potentiated the contractile component and lowered the tone of the muscle. 5 The relaxation and the tone were inhibited by papaverine (5 micrograms/ml) but the contractile component was unaffected. 6 It is suggested that potassium-induced relaxations are mediated through the activation of the sodium pump.
