RESUMEN

This empirical research study aims to investigate the asymmetric spillovers among crypto and key financial assets such as gold, equity, bonds, and the dollar-to-ruble exchange rate volatility, focusing on new developments during the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. Utilizing time- and frequency-domain methodologies, this study conducts an in-depth analysis employing daily frequency data from January 01, 2018, to May 30, 2023. The study employs value at risk and conditional value at risk estimations to assess potential losses in the portfolio during the crisis. The findings reveal that Bitcoin exhibits hedging ability, enabling investors to diversify risk among the underlying financial assets. The study observes a significant increase in Bitcoin investments during the crisis, leading to heightened volatility and uncertainty. Negative news has a stronger impact compared to positive news, underscoring the importance of prudent asset allocation for risk mitigation. The implications of our findings are particularly significant for financial policymakers and trade partners of Russia. The study urges them to differentiate their short- and long-term strategies and procurement contracts. In the long run, policymakers should be cognizant of the influence of the riskiness of crypto assets during economic crises, guiding the formulation of prudent policies and investment decision-making initiatives.

RESUMEN

The ongoing pace of urbanization poses a substantial obstacle to the concurrent progress of both financial and ecological development. Recognizing this challenge, governments globally are formulating cutting-edge strategies for urban renewal to ensure the long-term sustainability of cities. In this context, we employ a difference-in-differences model to scrutinize the intricate relationship between smart cities and the growth of renewable energy, utilizing the Chinese smart city pilot program as a pertinent experiment. This analytical approach provides novel insights into the underlying reasons behind this correlation. The research yields three noteworthy findings. Firstly, it underscores the indispensable role of pilot initiatives in smart cities for advancing the cause of renewable energy. Secondly, the study reveals a positive and beneficial interplay between creativity, economic inclusion, and the utilization of technological innovation in experimental urban programs, suggesting a potential multiplier effect. Thirdly, the local context significantly influences the impact of smart city pilots, with the dissemination of renewable energy being particularly effective in resource-rich, metropolitan, and coastal cities. Observable impacts of current smart city experiment on energy security and sustainable development are already apparent. The research findings contribute fresh perspectives to the complex challenges of sustainable energy production and urban planning, especially in developing countries like China.

RESUMEN

The use of renewable fuels leads to reduction in the use of fossil fuels and environmental pollutants. In this study, the design and analysis of a CCPP based on the use of syngas produced from biomass is discussed. The studied system includes a gasifier system to produce syngas, an external combustion gas turbine and a steam cycle to recover waste heat from combustion gases. Design variables include syngas temperature, syngas moisture content, CPR, TIT, HRSG operating pressure, and PPTD. The effect of design variables on performance components such as power generation, exergy efficiency and total cost rate of the system is investigated. Also, through multi-objective optimization, the optimal design of the system is done. Finally, it is observed that at the final decisioned optimal point, the produced power is 13.4 MW, the exergy efficiency is 17.2%, and the TCR is 118.8 $/h.

RESUMEN

Researches depict a considerable degree of acknowledgment of financial technology improvement in Pakistan. However, the costs blocking clients' intention to utilize financial technology remain dubious. Building upon Transaction Cost Economics and Innovation diffusion theory, this paper hypothesizes that consumers' transaction cost of fintech is affected by nine antecedents: perceived asset specificity, complexity, product uncertainty, behavioral uncertainty, transaction frequency, dependability, limitations, convenience, and economic utility. Transaction cost has a negative relationship with consumers' intentions to use fintech for online buying or availing services. We tested the model using data gathered from the individuals. The results show that factors that are positively related to consumers' perceived transaction cost, among them product uncertainty (ß = 0.231) is the greatest of factors, followed by behavior uncertainty (ß = 0.209) and asset specificity (ß = 0.17), those that are negatively associated are dependability (ß = 0.11), and convenience (ß = 0.224). The study is limited in scope, focusing primarily on cost factors. Future research may analyze additional cost-related elements and the actual use of financial technology by using samples from different countries.

RESUMEN

This study examines the impact of several important macroeconomic variables such as quality of education, infrastructure development, foreign direct investment inflow, and green energy transitions on economic growth. We analyzed annual time series data sample for estimation of the above macroeconomic indicators during 1990 to 2020. We use nonlinear auto-regressive distributive lag model (NARDL) approach to detect the short-term and long-term effects of undermentioned macroeconomic variables on economic growth of Pakistan. The results primarily reveal that the quality education, foreign direct investment inflow, and infrastructure development are playing a significant positive role in the economic growth of Pakistan. Similarly, in short term the foreign direct investment inflow, infrastructure, and green energy transition coefficients are significantly positive related to sustainable development goals. However, the education found as unsubstantial as contributive as other variables. Moreover, the Granger causality and structural break estimations are employed to estimate the causal association between the selected parameters and unexpected change over the economy. The estimated outcomes find the unidirectional causality from education and green energy transition towards economic growth, where education is found within relation to infrastructure. Additionally, bidirectional causal relationship is found between FDI and infrastructure towards economic growth which shows that the increase in foreign investment has the potential to boost the economic growth. Finally, all the estimated indexes are considered as important sources towards the economic growth.
