RESUMEN

In Pakistan, the origin of the indigenous cockfighting chicken (ICC) or gamecock population is unknown. However, it is speculated that this might have been associated with domestication, an event linked to recreational, entertainment (cockfighting), religious or ornamental activities. This study aims to understand the origin and genetic diversity of the ICC population in Pakistan. A total of 185 ICC population and 10 captive Indian red junglefowl (Gallus gallus murghi) were analyzed for genetic diversity indices and phylogenetic reconstruction using a 397 bp of mtDNA D-loop region. It is reported that a total of 43 haplotypes from 38 polymorphic nucleotide sites. The haplotype and nucleotide diversity are also estimated in the range of 0.643-0.909, and 0.00585-0.01575, respectively. The total genetic diversity within the population was 91.52%. Four mitochondrial haplogroups A, B, C and D were identified by median-joining network analysis, two of them have high percentages, haplogroup D (81.6%) and A (15.1%). Phylogenetic analysis showed that the ICC population of Pakistan and Gallus gallus murghi shared haplogroup D. The results of this study showed that sub-haplogroup D17a05, has significantly high haplotype diversity and percentage as compared to previously published studies, this indicated that Pakistan might be one of the centres of domestication for chicken, as it is considered that Southeast Asia is the centre of domestication. Frequencies of Haplogroup A also indicate South-North indices. This research work showed that the indigenous cockfighting chicken population of Pakistan is genetically introgressed from Gallus gallus murghi, and significant variations could be attributed to the underlying differences in the geographics, selection pressures, introgression, and regional practices; and multiple origins of cockfighting chickens' populations around the world which reflected the past trading routes between human communities and civilizations.

The Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus) is considered one of the largest carnivores inhabiting different territories including coniferous and broad-leaved forests, extending from sea level to the elevation of 4300 m. The Kaghan and Siran Valleys in Pakistan's District Mansehra were the location of the current study. To evaluate the altitudinal distribution and seasonal movement of Asiatic black bears in the region, we used three approaches (sign distribution survey, questionnaire-based survey, and scat collecting). A total of 1858 bear signs were observed during the field survey, the highest number of signs was dig marks (1213) followed by plant uprooting. Dig marks (MER: 7.574) were observed repeatedly in each potential site of both valleys followed by plant uprooting (MER: 1.594). Similarly, the altitudinal distribution of black bears was determined through the frequency of signs concerning elevation (m). Elevation of the study area ranged from 1300 to 3500 m and the most abundant population was recorded at the elevation of 2501-3000 m followed by 2001-2500 m. About 52% of local communities encountered black bears during the summer season in the field followed by Spring (23%.8) and winter (15.3%). Manshi Reserver forest (24.5%) from Kaghan and Panjul Reserve forest (31.6) from Siran Valley are the potential summer migratory spots. Eleven scat samples were collected with a 0.103 encounter rate (ER). Most of the scats (about 70%) were observed within the maize crop field in the summer season at low elevation, while just 30% of the scat was observed in the winter season in the forest.

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems have been gaining significant attention from the research community due to their potential to improve data rates. However, a suitable scheduling mechanism is required to efficiently distribute available spectrum resources and enhance system capacity. This paper investigates the user selection problem in Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) environment using the multi-agent Reinforcement learning (RL) methodology. Adopting multiple antennas' spatial degrees of freedom, devices can serve to transmit simultaneously in every time slot. We aim to develop an optimal scheduling policy by optimally selecting a group of users to be scheduled for transmission, given the channel condition and resource blocks at the beginning of each time slot. We first formulate the MU-MIMO scheduling problem as a single-state Markov Decision Process (MDP). We achieve the optimal policy by solving the formulated MDP problem using RL. We use aggregated sum-rate of the group of users selected for transmission, and a 20% higher sum-rate performance over the conventional methods is reported.

Butterflies are the beautiful creatures and need to be conserved. The present survey was conducted to explore the biodiversity of butterflies of District Battagram Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan, from March to September 2021. During this study the butterflies were collected from 2 Tehsil including 12 localities using line transect method. A total of 572 specimens were collected from all localities. Species identified were belonging to 3 families and 7 genera. The species were Cynthia cardui. Danaus chrysippus, Junonia orithya, Papilio demoleus, Papilio polytes, Colias croceus, Pieris ajaka, Pontia daplidice and Pieris napi. In the recorded 9 species Papilo demoleus was the most common species of the district Battagram and the most rear specie was Pieris ajaka during this study. The current study is new detailed work on the butterflies from district Battagram . It is concluded from the present study that district Battagram is rich in flora and provide a much suitable environment and place for biodiversity to insects. As this study is the first survey of butterflies population in the district and recorded rich diversity, so more explorative work is needed for its population estimation and specie abundance.

In this study we investigated the acute toxicity of Zinc Nano Particles (ZnO NPs) and bulk ZnO on tilapia fish (Oreochromis mossambicus). Oreochromis mossambicus was exposed to the different concentration of ZnO NPs, ZnO and mixed solution of both ZnO NPs and ZnO (20 ppb, 20 ppb, 20 ppb) respectively for 96 h. A very high impact was recorded in hematological parameters which shows significant increased (p < 0.05) in count of white WBCs and platelets in all the experimental groups compared tocontrol group. The count of RBCs, Hb, hematocrit and MCHC were significantly decreased. The remarkable changes which were recorded during this study were histopathological lesions in the gills of exposed fish including, disorganization of gill lamella, cartilaginous core disruption, lifting of epithelium, loss of secondary gill lamellae, blood congestion, fusion of secondary gills lamellae, shortening of secondary gills lamellae, atrophy and curling. Disassembly were seen in plasma membrane of liver along with blood congestion, pyknosis, necrosis, hyperplasia and formation of vacuoles. Intestinal alterations which were observed include shortening of villi, necrosis, detachment and fusion of villi and extreme goblet cells formation. It is concluded from the present study that high level of ZnO NPs, ZnO and mixed solution has a strong tendency to alter hematological parameters, histological architecture, therefore, the indiscriminate use of ZnO NPs and ZnO can subsidize in reducing the population of Oreochromis mossambicus in natural water bodies.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death all over the world. Beside general risk factors, there are some genetic factors which lead to cardiovascular diseases. Various nuclear DNA mutation and also mitochondrial DNA mutations have been related with cardiovascular diseases. In the present study, a total of 21 samples were collected from different families residing in district Dir. DNA was extracted from buccal epithelial cells using saliva. The mitochondrial tRNA leu (MT TL1) gene was amplified by PCR and 10 samples of different families were sequenced. The sequence was aligned with revised Cambridge Reference Sequence (rCRS) accession # NC-012920.1. It is concluded that cardiovascular diseases in our subjects are not due to mutation in the mitochondrial leucine tRNA gene. However, a large population of subjects with cardiovascular diseases needs to be studied and whole mitochondrial DNA is needed to be sequenced in the subjects with CVD. This will give an idea about the probable DNA marker which can be used to prevent loses due to these diseases at a very early stages.

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a zoonosis caused by Echinococcus multilocularis, a heteroxenous parasite belonging to Cestoda class. AE is currently considered an important public health issue, but epidemiological and notably molecular data from several endemic countries, including Pakistan, are sparse. Here we report the first detection of Echinococcus multilocularis in wildlife from Pakistan after real-time PCR and sequencing confirmation in the faecal samples of three foxes from northern Kaghan and Siran regions. The occurrence is estimated at 4.4% (95% CI 0.9-12.4). In order to go further in the epidemiological investigations on E. multilocularis and due to the potential presence of other Echinococcus species, we suggest the need for further epidemiological surveys targeting E. multilocularis and E. granulosus sensu lato isolates from humans and intermediate hosts as well as definitive hosts from wildlife in Pakistan.
