RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the characteristics of patellar tendons (PTs) of patients who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with hamstring tendon autograft using shear wave elastography (SWE). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This prospective study was conducted between August 2017 and February 2018. We performed brightness mode (B-mode) ultrasound and SWE on 21 patients (20 males, 1 female; mean age 32 years; range, 19 to 42 years) who underwent ACLR with a single-bundle transtibial technique using quadruple hamstring autografts and 14 healthy controls (13 males, 1 female; mean age 35 years; range, 25 to 47 years). Length and thickness of the PT were evaluated with B-mode ultrasound, while elasticity values were evaluated with SWE in the patient and control groups. RESULTS: The mean SWE value of the patient group on the operated side was 25.30 (min-max=16.60-46.20) and on the non-operated side 23.20 (min-max=12.40-44). There were no statistically significant differences regarding PT elasticity, thickness, or length between the groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: There were no differences regarding elasticity, length, or thickness between the operated and healthy knees detected with SWE. Upcoming research should focus on tendon biopsy and biochemical analyses for the identification of possible intrastructural changes of the tendon due to collagen synthesis after ACLR with hamstring autograft.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS) is the extrinsic compression of the left renal vein by neighboring arterial, ligamentous, muscular, or osseous structures. Diagnosis is made by Doppler ultrasonography (US), multidetector computerized tomography (MDCT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), phlebography. The aim of the current study is to assess the value of MRI and compare the efficiency of different sequences in diagnosis and follow up of children with NCS. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 40 children (female/male ratio 3:1) with NCS were included in this prospective study. A standardized abdominal MRI protocol was used and T2-TRUFI (True Fast Imaging with Steady-State Free Precession), T2-HASTE (Half Fourier Acquisition with Single Shot Turbo Spin Echo), T1-VIBE (Volumetric Interpolated Breath Hold Examination), and out-of-phase (opposed-phase) T1 sequences were obtained. The sequences were compared according to anatomical depiction, measurability, and pulsation artifact. RESULTS: A four point-scale was used to assess subjective image quality and the results were listed as: 1 = poor, 2 = fair, 3 = good, and 4 = excellent. Both in total and for each individual criterion, the highest scores were obtained with T2-TRUFI (total mean 3.74 ±â€¯0.45, anatomical depiction 3.9 ±â€¯0.3, measurability 3.8 ±â€¯0.4, aortic pulsation artifact 3.52 ±â€¯0.55). CONCLUSION: Although Doppler US is the gold standard technique in the diagnosis of NCS, MR imaging may be used as an additional modality, as it is superior to Doppler US in terms of anatomic depiction and a lower rate of imaging artifacts. Non-contrast MR imaging, particularly TRUFI sequence, may have an incremental value in the accurate diagnosis and follow-up of these patients.

RESUMEN

A 35-year-old male patient was presented with pain on his right upper eyelid. A piece of wood injured his orbital and supraorbital regions while working at a furniture factory 10 days prior to our hospital admission. It was learned that the patient was discharged following the primary would closure procedure. Subsequent to the craniofacial computed tomography, primary wound closure was performed in the emergency room of previous hospital. In our clinic, a skin suturing on the nasal side of the right eyebrow was inspected and a foreign body (FB) was palpated on the superonasal contiguity of the patients' right globe. A hyperdense FB measuring 30 × 10 × 5 mm in size with smooth margins on superonasal contour of the globe was detected. Superonasal orbitotomy was performed and the FB was completely removed. Finally, visual acuity was 20/20 and a mild residual ptosis was observed.

RESUMEN

Aneurysms of the renal artery are rare and have an estimated incidence of 0.09% in the general population. They may be diagnosed incidentally or during the evaluation of related symptoms. They may be followed up or treated either surgically or endovascularly. We present a successful percutaneous treatment of a renal artery aneurysm with stenosis by a stent-graft in a 55-year-old woman, who was diagnosed during the evaluation of labile hypertension. Follow-up was for 6 months.
