RESUMEN
Among sexually transmitted diseases, the incidence of primary and secondary syphilis has substantially increased in Russian Federation within the recent years. Modern clinicians, acquainted only with conventional dermatovenerologic symptoms of the disease, are less aware of rare manifestations of syphilis as a generalized infection. A rare case of syphilis with infiltrative pulmonary lesion is discussed in the article; the attention of practitioners is drawn to "unusual" manifestations of syphilis.

The rate of glutamate uptake was shown to decrease while the rate of glutamate export from preloaded cells increased after the resistance to tetracyclines had been induced in the cells of plasmid-bearing Escherichia coli strains. Similar results were obtained with membrane vesicles prepared from the cells induced by the antibiotic and from the non-induced cells. These data imply that the transport channel formed after the induction in the membranes of resistant cells can also function as a mechanism which mediates the active export of glutamate from the cells.

The possibility of purifying lipase from Geotrichum asteroides by chromatography with a modified silochrome used as sorbent has been explored. The paper presents a scheme of adsorption and subsequent desorption of lipase from octylsilochrome which requires that ethylene glycol, Na-deoxycholate and Triton X-100 be used as eluents. Triton, the last in the sequence, eluates the major portion of the enzyme. This eluent can be removed from the lipase solution by means of ultrafiltration through the Ripore-4 membrane in the presence of glycerol.

By gel chromatography on Sephadex G-75 it has been demonstrated that the culture fluid of Geotrichum asteroides VKM F-144 contains two lipolytic components, one of which, lipase 1, eluates in the free volume of the column, whereas the second component, lipase 2, eluates in the volume close to that of the egg albumin yield. The paper describes a method for lipase 2 preparation consisting of precipitation of accompanying compounds at pH 4.2, depigmentation of the supernatant on the resin PAP in the Cl-form, selective sorption of lipase on the cation exchange resin CMC and further purification of the eluate gel chromatography and Sephadex G-100 rechromatography. The molecular weight of the lipase is estimated to be 45,000 and the isoelectric point to correspond to pH 4.3. pH optimum of action of the purified enzyme, areas of its pH- and thermostability have been determined.

The lipolytic activity of the fungi Aspergillus and Rhizopus was studied on a medium with soybean flour. The lipolytic activity of the Aspergillus fungi was low or absent whereas many of the cultures belonging to the Rhizopus genus possessed the lipolytic activity. The effect of soybean flour components on lipase biosynthesis was studied with Geotrichum asteroides and Rhizopus cohnii AUCMF-597. The lipid component was shown to be necessary for lipase biosynthesis by G. asteroides and to stimulate lipase synthesis by Rh. cohnii AUCMF-597. Oleic acid is presumed to activate lipase biosynthesis by G. asteroides.

Hydrolysis of olive oil by intact cells of Mycobacterium rubrum 403 and "acetone" preparations of Actinomyces streptomycini 116 was found to be inhibited by the following ions: Ca2+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Ba2+, Co2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Fe2+, Fe3+, Ni2+. Olive oil is hydrolyzed by the growing culture of Act. streptomycini 116 only in the presence of bivalent metal ions. The biosynthesis of lipase by Mycobatcerium rubrum 403 and Act. streptomycini 116 is increased twofold by magnesium ions. The biosynthesis of lipase by Act. stroptomycini 116 is stimulated also by calcium ions.

Under study were kinetic regularities in development and incorporation of tritium labelled thymidine into cells of two experimental metastasizing tumors -- Zajdela ascites hepatoma and Walker carcinosarcoma, transplanted intratesticulary. Primary tumors and their metastases in regional lymph nodes show certain differences relative both to the rate of the process and intensity of the DNA synthesis, and relative number of cells with incorporated labelled thymidine.
