Objective.Up to this point, 1.5 T linac-compatible coil array layouts have been restricted to one or two rows of coils because of the desire to place radiation-opaque circuitry adjacent to the coils and outside the window through which the linac beam travels. Such layouts can limit parallel imaging performance. The purpose of this work was to design and build a three-row array in which remotely located circuits permitted a central row of coils while preserving the radiolucent window.Approach.The remote circuits consisted of a phase shifter to cancel the phase introduced by the coaxial link between the circuit and coil, followed by standard components for tuning, matching, detuning, and preamplifier decoupling. Tests were performed to compare prototype single-channel coils with remote or local circuits, which were followed by tests comparing two and three-row arrays .Main results.The single-channel coil with the remote circuit maintained 85% SNR at depths of 30 mm or more as compared to a coil with local circuit. The three-row array provided similar SNR as the two-row array, along with geometry factor advantages for parallel imaging acceleration in the head-foot direction.Significance.The remote circuit strategy could potentially support future MR-linac arrays by allowing greater flexibility in array layout compared to those confined by local circuits, which can be leveraged for parallel imaging acceleration.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to design and build a coil for quadri-nuclear MRI of the human brain at 7 T. METHODS: We built a transmit/receive triple-tuned (45.6 MHz for 2 $$ {}^2 $$ H, 78.6 MHz for 23 $$ {}^{23} $$ Na, and 120.3 MHz for 31 $$ {}^{31} $$ P) quadrature four-rod birdcage that was geometrically interleaved with a transmit/receive four-channel dipole array (297.2 MHz for 1 $$ {}^1 $$ H). The birdcage rods contained passive, two-pole resonant circuits that emulated capacitors required for single-tuning at three frequencies. The birdcage assembly also included triple-tuned matching networks, baluns, and transmit/receive switches. We assessed the performance of the coil with quality factor (Q) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements, and performed in vivo multinuclear MRI and MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI). RESULTS: Q measurements showed that the triple-tuned birdcage efficiency was within 33% of that of single-tuned baseline birdcages at all three frequencies. The quadri-tuned coil SNR was 78%, 59%, 44%, and 48% lower than that of single or dual-tuned reference coils for 1 $$ {}^1 $$ H, 2 $$ {}^2 $$ H, 23 $$ {}^{23} $$ Na, and 31 $$ {}^{31} $$ P, respectively. Quadri-nuclear MRI and MRSI was demonstrated in brain in vivo in about 30 min. CONCLUSION: While the SNR of the quadruple tuned coil was significantly lower than dual- and single-tuned reference coils, it represents a step toward truly simultaneous quadri-nuclear measurements.

With the rise of two-dimensional (2D) materials, unique properties that are completely distinct from bulk counterparts continue to emerge at low-dimensional scales, presenting numerous opportunities and challenges. It also provides a new perspective for the study of transition metal systems. Here, based on density functional theory (DFT), the physical properties of 2D monolayer LiV2S4 have been studied. Remarkable changes have been observed, i.e., vanadium dimerization, ferromagnetism, charge distribution and metal-insulator transition (MIT). It is argued that the electronic instability leads to the V dimerization, which further lifts the degeneracy of charge distribution and stabilizes the charge and spin ordering state.

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are the most common types of tumors worldwide. The lack of cancer biomarkers and targeted drug resistance are barriers to achieving effective cancer therapy. Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) is a transmembrane protein that has multiple functions due to its ability to recognize different ligands; however, the role of LRP1 in GI cancer cells remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the role of LRP1 in GI tumors. The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used to analyze the potential correlation between expression of LRP1 and prognosis in patients with GI cancer. Bioinformatics analysis was utilized and the expression of LRP1 was simultaneously validated in GI cancer at the cellular level through western blot experiments. LRP1 was expressed at high levels in HGC-27, HepG2 and BxPC-3 cells. LRP1 expression in GI cancer cells was knocked down using lentivirus-mediated shRNA and the effects on biological functions were observed. LRP1 knockdown suppressed the proliferation, invasion and migration of GI cancer cells. LRP1 knockdown inhibited CD36 gene expression in HepG2 and BxPC-3 cells. LRP1 knockdown inhibited the proliferation, invasion and migration of GI cancer cells, suggesting that LRP1 may be a novel target for treatment of GI tumors.

BACKGROUND: Wrist pain in the extended or extended weightbearing positions may be incompletely evaluated using standard magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with standard rigid clamshell coils in the neutral position. PURPOSE: To evaluate a flexible 24-channel glove coil and harness when imaging the wrist in neutral, dorsally extended, and weightbearing positions. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten wrists in 10 asymptomatic volunteers (mean age = 29 years) were scanned. Participants underwent 3-T MRI using the harness and flexible glove coil, acquiring sagittal turbo spin echo (TSE) and half-Fourier acquisition single-shot turbo spin echo (HASTE) pulse sequences. Static TSE images were obtained in neutral, extended, and weightbearing positions using proton density parameters and independently evaluated by two radiologists for: dorsal radiocarpal ligament thickness; radiocapitate, radiolunate, and capitatolunate angles; palmar translation of the lunate on the radius; angulation of the extensor tendons; and distance from the distal extensor retinaculum to Lister's tubercle. Cine HASTE images were dynamically acquired between neutral-maximum extension to measure the radiocapitate angle. RESULTS: Good reader agreement was observed (r > 0.73) for all measurements except palmar translation in the neutral position (r = 0.27). Significant increases in dorsal radiocarpal ligament thickness; radiocapitate, radiolunate and capitolunate angulation; and extensor tendon angulation were observed between the neutral and extended positions (P < 0.001). A further significant increase in these metrics between extended and weightbearing positions was also seen (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Significant increases in dorsal radiocarpal ligament thickness, articular and tendon angulations occur during wrist extension, that further increase with dorsal weightbearing.

Flexible radiofrequency coils for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have garnered attention in research and industrial communities because they provide improved accessibility and performance and can accommodate a range of anatomic postures. Most recent flexible coil developments involve customized conductors or substrate materials and/or target applications at 3 T or above. In contrast, we set out to design a flexible coil based on an off-the-shelf conductor that is suitable for operation at 0.55 T (23.55 MHz). Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation can occur in such an environment because the resistance of the coil conductor can be significant with respect to the sample. We found that resonating a commercially available RG-223 coaxial cable shield with a lumped capacitor while the inner conductor remained electrically floating gave rise to a highly effective "cable coil." A 10-cm diameter cable coil was flexible enough to wrap around the knee, an application that can benefit from flexible coils, and had similar conductor loss and SNR as a standard-of-reference rigid copper coil. A two-channel cable coil array also provided good SNR robustness against geometric variability, outperforming a two-channel coaxial coil array by 26 and 16% when the elements were overlapped by 20-40% or gapped by 30-50%, respectively. A 6-channel cable coil array was constructed for 0.55 T knee imaging. Incidental cartilage and bone pathologies were clearly delineated in T1- and T2-weighted turbo spin echo images acquired in 3-4 min with the proposed coil, suggesting that clinical quality knee imaging is feasible in an acceptable examination timeframe. Correcting for T1, the SNR measured with the cable coil was approximately threefold lower than that measured with a 1.5 T state-of-the-art 18-channel coil, which is expected given the threefold difference in main magnetic field strength. This result suggests that the 0.55 T cable coil conductor loss does not deleteriously impact SNR, which might be anticipated at low field.

BACKGROUND: Thioacetamide (TAA) is used in various fields, such as synthetic drugs, organic chemical synthesis, and materials chemistry. TAA is mainly used to establish animal liver injury models and other organ damage models to explore their mechanisms for helping patients with liver disease. Liver damage can lead to abnormal expression of some enzymes in the serum, so we detected the appropriate enzyme levels in the serum of SD rats to verify the damage of TAA to the liver. More importantly, TAA caused bone damage is barely understood. Therefore, our research aims to establish a rat model reflecting the acute bone damage injury caused by TAA. METHODS: The SD rats were intraperitoneally injected with normal saline (0.9%) or TAA (200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg) for 1 month (once the other day). After the last intraperitoneal injection, serum samples from rats were used for biochemical tests. Masson staining is used to detect liver damage, and micro-CT is used to detect the changes in bone. Moreover, the three-point bending experiment was used to detect the force range of the hind limbs of SD rats. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, after the intraperitoneal injection of TAA, the levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), uric acid (UA), total bile acid (TBA), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), carbamide (UREA) and creatinine (CREA) rose sharply, while the levels of serum content of total protein (TP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) were severely reduced. After TAA administration, collagen fibers were deposited and liver fibrosis was obvious. Micro-CT results showed that the bone surface, tissue surface, bone volume, and tissue volume of rats with an intraperitoneal injection of TAA were significantly reduced. In addition, the bones of rats with an intraperitoneal injection of TAA can resist less pressure and are prone to fractures. CONCLUSIONS: TAA can cause liver damage in SD rats, which is explained by the changes in serum biochemical indicators and the deposition of liver collagen. More importantly, TAA can reduce bone mineral density and increase the separation of bone trabeculae in SD rats, and finally lead to bone injury. This suggests that TAA may become an ideal model to investigate abnormal bone metabolism after liver injury.

PURPOSE: To develop a 3D MR technique to simultaneously acquire proton multiparametric maps (T1 , T2 , and proton density) and sodium density weighted images over the whole brain. METHODS: We implemented a 3D stack-of-stars MR pulse sequence which consists of interleaved proton (1 H) and sodium (23 Na) excitations, tailored slice encoding gradients that can encode the same slice for both nuclei, and simultaneous readout with different radial trajectories (1 H, full-radial; 23 Na, center-out radial). The receive chain of our 7T scanner was modified to enable simultaneous acquisition of 1 H and 23 Na signal. A heuristically optimized flip angle train was implemented for proton MR fingerprinting (MRF). The SNR and the accuracy of proton T1 and T2 were evaluated in phantoms. Finally, in vivo application of the method was demonstrated in five healthy subjects. RESULTS: The SNR for the simultaneous measurement was almost identical to that for the single-nucleus measurements (<2% change). The proton T1 and T2 maps remained similar to the results from a reference 2D MRF technique (normalized RMS error in T1 ≈ 4.2% and T2 ≈ 11.3%). Measurements in healthy subjects corroborated these results and demonstrated the feasibility of our method for in vivo application. The in vivo T1 values measured using our method were lower than the results measured by other conventional techniques. CONCLUSIONS: With the 3D simultaneous implementation, we were able to acquire sodium and proton density weighted images in addition to proton T1 , T2 , and B1+ from 1 H MRF that covers the whole brain volume within 21 min.

PURPOSE: To present a novel 3T 24-channel glove array that enables hand and wrist imaging in varying postures. METHODS: The glove array consists of an inner glove holding the electronics and an outer glove protecting the components. The inner glove consists of four main structures: palm, fingers, wrist, and a flap that rolls over on top. Each structure was constructed out of three layers: a layer of electrostatic discharge flame-resistant fabric, a layer of scuba neoprene, and a layer of mesh fabric. Lightweight and flexible high impedance coil (HIC) elements were inserted into dedicated tubes sewn into the fabric. Coil elements were deliberately shortened to minimize the matching interface. Siemens Tim 4G technology was used to connect all 24 HIC elements to the scanner with only one plug. RESULTS: The 24-channel glove array allows large motion of both wrist and hand while maintaining the SNR needed for high-resolution imaging. CONCLUSION: In this work, a purpose-built 3T glove array that embeds 24 HIC elements is demonstrated for both hand and wrist imaging. The 24-channel glove array allows a great range of motion of both the wrist and hand while maintaining a high SNR and providing good theoretical acceleration performance, thus enabling hand and wrist imaging at different postures to extract kinematic information.

To explore the influence of changes in human lifestyle and the living environment caused by nonpharmaceutical interventions in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on allergic diseases, the present study enrolled children who came to the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University for allergen detection between January 2019 and December 2020. By comparing the positive rates and levels of various allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the influence of changes in human lifestyle and the living environment caused by prevention and control measures in COVID-19 on allergic diseases was evaluated. In 2019, 41 648 allergic children went to the hospital, but in 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the number decreased to 24 714. In 2020, the number of allergy visits was the lowest in February and gradually increased. There were 45 879 children with total IgE > 17.5 IU/ml in 2 years, accounting for 69.13% of the total samples, of which the proportion was 68.52% (28 536/41 648) in 2019 and 70.17% (17 343/24 714) in 2020. A total of 29 906 children were positive for one or more allergens in 2 years. It accounts for 45.06% of the total number of samples, of which the proportion is 41.53% (17 296/41 648) in 2019 and 51.02% (12 610/24 714) in 2020. Except for cashew nuts, the positive number of other allergens in 2020 was less than in 2019, especially after June and July 2020. Except for Artemisia argyi, the positive rates of other allergens in 2020 were significantly higher than those in 2019 (p < 0.05). Moreover, the changing trend of the positive allergen rate in each month in 2020 was different from that in 2019. In 2020, except for Dermatophagoides farinae, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, and Crab, specific IgE levels of other allergens were not greater than those in 2019 (p < 0.05). Thus it can be seen, during the COVID-19 pandemic, nonpharmaceutical interventions played a protective role in reducing children's exposure to allergens and alleviating allergic reactions.

The objective of the current study was to design and build a dual-tuned coil array for simultaneous 23 Na/1 H MRI of the human brain at 7 T. Quality factor, experimental B1+ measurements, and electromagnetic simulations in prototypes showed that setups consisting of geometrically interleaved 1 H and 23 Na loops performed better than or similar to 1 H or 23 Na loops in isolation. Based on these preliminary findings, we built a transmit/receive eight-channel 23 Na loop array that was geometrically interleaved with a transmit/receive eight-channel 1 H loop array. We assessed the performance of the manufactured array with mononuclear signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and B1+ measurements, along with multinuclear magnetic resonance fingerprinting maps and images. The 23 Na array within the developed dual-tuned device provided more than 50% gain in peripheral SNR and similar B1+ uniformity and coverage as a reference birdcage coil of similar size. The 1 H array provided good B1+ uniformity in the brain, excluding the cerebellum and brain stem. The integrated 23 Na and 1 H arrays were used to demonstrate truly simultaneous quantitative 1 H mapping and 23 Na imaging.

With ongoing research, it was found that asymptomatic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection was widespread in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) populations. Studies have confirmed asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 have potential infectivity, and most of the transmission occurred before symptoms appear. Asymptomatic infection rates varied widely in different countries and regions. Identifying the asymptomatic infected persons and cutting off the infection source is an effective way to prevent the spread of this disease. However, asymptomatic patients have hidden clinical symptoms, and screening based only on the clinical symptoms of COVID-19 can easily lead to a missed diagnosis. Therefore, determining asymptomatic infection patients by SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing is the gold standard. A series of prevention and control measures adopted by the Chinese government, especially the "Four Early" policy, have achieved outstanding achievements, which are worth learning from by other countries.

In addition to the typical respiratory response, new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is also associated with very common gastrointestinal symptoms. Cases with gastrointestinal symptoms are more likely to be complicated by liver injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). If not treated in time, coma and circulatory failure may ensue. As severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infects the human body through the combination of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in the gastrointestinal tract, the mechanism underlying the gastrointestinal symptoms may involve damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier and promotion of the production of inflammatory factors. Indeed, after cells in the lungs become infected by SARS-CoV-2, effector CD4+ T cells reach the small intestine through the gut-lung axis, causing intestinal immune damage and diarrhea; early extensive use of antibacterial and antiviral drugs can also lead to diarrhea in patients. Thus, treatment options for COVID-19 patients should be promptly adjusted when they have gastrointestinal symptoms. As SARS-CoV-2 has been detected in the feces of COVID-19 patients, future prevention and control efforts must consider the possibility of fecal-oral transmission of the virus.

Cytokine storm is an excessive immune response to external stimuli. The pathogenesis of the cytokine storm is complex. The disease progresses rapidly, and the mortality is high. Certain evidence shows that, during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, the severe deterioration of some patients has been closely related to the cytokine storm in their bodies. This article reviews the occurrence mechanism and treatment strategies of the COVID-19 virus-induced inflammatory storm in attempt to provide valuable medication guidance for clinical treatment.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) was first reported in China, with bats as the likely original hosts and pangolins as potential intermediate hosts. The current source of the disease is mainly patients infected with SARS-COV-2. Patients in the incubation period may also become sources of infection. The virus is mainly transmitted via respiratory droplets and contact, and the population is generally susceptible. The epidemic has progressed through the local outbreak stage and community transmission stage due to exposure at Wuhan's Huanan wholesale seafood market and is now in the stage of large-scale transmission due to the spread of the epidemic. The basic productive number (R0) at the beginning of the epidemic was 2.2, with an average incubation period of 5.2 days. The proportion of critically ill patients was 23.4%, the mortality rate was lower than those of SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome, and 96.5% of deaths occurred in Hubei Province, where the outbreak occurred first. Among them, elderly men with underlying diseases had a higher mortality rate. Chinese medical staff have summarized a set of effective strategies and methods in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease that are worthy of reference for their international counterparts. With powerful government intervention and the efforts of Chinese medical staff, China's outbreak has gradually improved.

Background: Chemotherapy remains a primary treatment method for advanced pancreatic cancer. However, chemotherapy resistance can influence the therapeutic effect of pancreatic cancer. The resistance mechanism of chemotherapeutic agents such as gemcitabine, which is an agent typically used to treat pancreatic cancer, is complicated and can be influenced by genes and the environment. Oridonin is a tetracyclic diterpenoid compound extracted from the traditional Chinese herb Rabdosia labtea. Oridonin may overcome drug resistance in pancreatic cancer, but researching pancreatic cancer drug resistance of chemotherapy by oridonin is not completely understood. Purpose: The present study aimed to assess the impact of oridonin on multidrug resistance proteins, apoptosis-associated proteins and energy metabolism in gemcitabine-resistant PANC-1 (PANC-1/Gem) pancreatic cancer cells. Methods: Gemcitabine resistance in PANC-1/Gem cells was induced using a concentration gradient of gemcitabine. Cell Counting Kit-8 assays were used to detect the impact of gemcitabine and oridonin on the proliferation of PANC-1 and PANC-1/Gem cells. Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence were used to detect the expression of multidrug resistance proteins, apoptosis-associated proteins and low-density lipoprotein receptor protein 1 (LRP1) proteins in PANC-1/Gem cells. The effects of gemcitabine and oridonin on PANC-1/Gem cells apoptosis were detected using flow cytometry. Animal xenograft tumor assays were used to detect the effect of gemcitabine and oridonin on pancreatic cancer in vivo. Furthermore, the ATP Assay kit was used to determine the effects of gemcitabine and oridonin on ATP levels in PANC-1/Gem cells. Immunofluorescence assays were used to detect the effects of gemcitabine and oridonin on the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptor protein 1 (LRP1) in PANC-1/Gem cells. In addition, LRP1 expression was knocked down in PANC-1/Gem cells via lentiviral vector-mediated RNA silencing. Clone formation assays and Western blot analysis were used to detect the effect of LRP1 knockdown on the proliferation of PANC-1/Gem cells. Results: The present results demonstrate that oridonin overcomes PANC-1/Gem cells gemcitabine reistance by regulating GST pi and LRP1/ERK/JNK signaling. Conclusion: In conclusion, the present study indicated that oridonin could overcome gemcitabine resistance in PANC-1/Gem cells by regulating GST pi and LRP1/ ERK/JNK signaling, inducing cell apoptosis. Therefore, oridonin with gemcitabine may be a promising preoperative treatment for patients who suffer from pancreatic cancer.

Recent studies have demonstrated that the expression of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) AFAP1-AS1 in pancreatic cancer is negatively correlated with survival and prognosis. However, the effects of oridonin and lncRNA AFAP1-AS1 on the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and migration of pancreatic cancer cells have not been fully elucidated. Surgery is the only potentially curative method for pancreatic cancer, but postoperative recurrence and metastasis are common. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of oridonin and lncRNA AFAP1-AS1 silencing on pancreatic cancer cells. The pancreatic cancer cell lines BxPC-3 and PANC-1 cells were transfected with siAFAP1-AS1 and its negative control (siNC). After that, oridonin was used to treat the siAFAP1-AS1-transfected cells. The expression of lncRNA AFAP1-AS1 was downregulated in the pancreatic cancer cell lines BxPC-3 and PANC-1. The apoptosis and cell cycle progression of pancreatic cancer cells were evaluated by flow cytometry and Hoechst 33258 staining. Metastasis and invasion of BxPC-3 and PANC-1 cells were detected by transwell migration assay, real-time cell analysis, and western blot analysis. Cells were transfected with the lentiviral siAFAP1-AS1 and siNC, and tumorigenesis was evaluated in BALB/C nude mice. Immunohistochemical examination was used to verify the effects of oridonin and siAFAP1-AS1 on pancreatic cancer. The results demonstrated that the combination of oridonin and siAFAP1-AS1 inhibited pancreatic cancer cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, arrested cell cycle progression, prevented the migration, regulated EMT-related protein expression in BxPC-3 and PANC-1 cells, and inhibited pancreatic cancer cell tumorigenicity and EMT in nude mice.
