BACKGROUND: Different types of inflammatory processes and fibrosis have been implicated in the pathogenesis of interstitial lung disease (ILD), a heterogeneous, diffuse, parenchymal lung disease. Acute exacerbation (AE) of ILD is characterized by significant respiratory deterioration and is associated with high mortality rates. Several serum oncomarkers have been used to determine the prognosis of ILD; however, the prognostic value of serum oncomarker levels in patients with AE-ILD remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prognostic value of serum oncomarker levels in patients with AE-ILD and its main subtypes. DESIGN: Retrospective study. METHODS: The serum levels of 8 oncomarkers in 281 patients hospitalized with AE-ILD at our institution between 2017 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. The baseline characteristics and serum oncomarker levels were compared between the survival and non-survival groups of AE-ILD and its main subtypes. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent prognosis-related markers, and the best prognostic predictor was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis. RESULT: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF; n = 65), idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (iNSIP; n = 26), and connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD; n = 161) were the three main subtypes of ILD. The in-hospital mortality rate among patients with AE-ILD was 21%. The serum oncomarker levels of most patients with AE-ILD and its main subtypes in the non-survival group were higher than those in the survival group. Multivariate analysis revealed that ferritin and cytokeratin 19 fragments (CYFRA21-1) were independent prognostic risk factors for patients hospitalized with AE-ILD or AE-CTD-ILD. CYFRA21-1 was identified as an independent prognostic risk factor for patients hospitalized with AE-IPF or AE-iNSIP. CONCLUSION: CYFRA21-1 may be a viable biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients with AE-ILD, regardless of the underlying subtype of ILD. Ferritin has a prognostic value in patients with AE-ILD or AE-CTD-ILD.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction (SICD) is a serious complication of sepsis that is associated with increased mortality. Ferroptosis has been reported in the SICD. TaoHe ChengQi decoction (THCQD), a classical traditional Chinese medicinal formula, has multiple beneficial pharmacological effects. The potential effects of THCQD on the SICD remain unknown. PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of THCQD on SICD and explore whether this effect is related to the regulation of myocardial ferroptosis through nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) activation. METHODS: We induced sepsis in a mouse model using cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) and administered THCQD (2 and 4 g/kg) and dexamethasone (40 mg/kg). Mice mortality was recorded and survival curves were plotted. Echocardiography, hematoxylin and eosin staining, and analysis of serum myocardial injury markers and inflammatory factors were used to evaluate cardiac pathology. Myocardial ferroptosis was detected by quantifying specific biomarker content and protein levels. Through HPLC-Q-Exactive-MS analysis, we identified the components of the THCQD. Network pharmacology analysis and Cellular Thermal Shift Assay (CETSA) were utilized to predict the targets of THCQD for treating SICD. We detected the expression of Nrf2 using Western blotting or immunofluorescence. An RSL3-induced ferroptosis model was established using neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) to further explore the pharmacological mechanism of THCQD. In addition to measuring cell viability, we observed changes in NRCM mitochondria using electron microscopy and JC-1 staining. NRF2 inhibitor ML385 and Nrf2 knockout mice were used to validate whether THCQD exerted protective effects against SICD through Nrf2-mediated ferroptosis signaling. RESULTS: THCQD reduced mortality in septic mice, protected against CLP-induced myocardial injury, decreased systemic inflammatory response, and prevented myocardial ferroptosis. Network pharmacology analysis and CETSA experiments predicted that THCQD may protect against SICD by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway. Western blotting and immunofluorescence showed that THCQD activated Nrf2 in cardiac tissue. THCQDs consistently mitigated RSL3-induced ferroptosis in NRCM, which is related to Nrf2. Furthermore, the pharmacological inhibition of Nrf2 and genetic Nrf2 knockout partially reversed the protective effects of THCQD on SICD and ferroptosis. CONCLUSION: The effect of THCQD on SICD was achieved by activating Nrf2 and its downstream pathways.

In-depth comprehension and modulation of the electronic structure of the active metal sites is crucial to enhance their intrinsic activity of electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) toward anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs). Here, we elaborate a series of amorphous metal oxide catalysts (FeCrOx, CoCrOx and NiCrOx) with high performance AEMWEs by high-valent chromium dopant. We discover that the positive effect of the transition from low to high valence of the Co site on the adsorption energy of the intermediate and the lower oxidation barrier is the key factor for its increased activity by synchrotron radiation in-situ techniques. Particularly, the CoCrOx anode catalyst achieves the high current density of 1.5 A cm-2 at 2.1 V and maintains for over 120 h with attenuation less than 4.9 mV h-1 in AEMWE testing. Such exceptional performance demonstrates a promising prospect for industrial application and providing general guidelines for the design of high-efficiency AEMWEs systems.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Kai-Xin-San (KXS) is a classic herbal formula for the treatment and prevention of AD (Alzheimer's disease) with definite curative effect, but its mechanism, which involves multiple components, pathways, and targets, is not yet fully understood. AIM OF THE STUDY: To verify the effect of KXS on gut microbiota and explore its anti-AD mechanism related with gut microbiota. MATERIALS AND METHODS: AD rat model was established and evaluated by intraperitoneal injection of D-gal and bilateral hippocampal CA1 injections of Aß25-35. The pharmacodynamics of KXS in vivo includes general behavior, Morris water maze test, ELISA, Nissl & HE staining and immunofluorescence. Systematic analysis of gut microbiota was conducted using 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology. The potential role of gut microbiota in the anti-AD effect of KXS was validated with fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) experiments. RESULTS: KXS could significantly improve cognitive impairment, reduce neuronal damage and attenuate neuroinflammation and colonic inflammation in vivo in AD model rats. Nine differential intestinal bacteria associated with AD were screened, in which four bacteria (Lactobacillus murinus, Ligilactobacillus, Alloprevotella, Prevotellaceae_NK3B31_group) were very significant. CONCLUSION: KXS can maintain the ecological balance of intestinal microbiota and exert its anti-AD effect by regulating the composition and proportion of gut microbiota in AD rats through the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

The heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) in soils can be accumulated by crops grown, which is accompanied by crop ingestion into the human body and then causes harm to human health. Hence, the health risks posed by HMs in three crops for different populations were assessed using Health risk assessment (HRA) model coupled with Monte Carlo simulation. Results revealed that Zn had the highest concentration among three crops; while Ni was the main polluting element in maize and soybean, and As in rice. Non-carcinogenic risk for all populations through rice ingestion was at an "unacceptable" level, and teenagers suffered higher risk than adults and children. All populations through ingestion of three crops might suffer Carcinogenic risk, with the similar order of Total carcinogenic risk (TCR): TCRAdults > TCRTeenagers > TCRChildren. As and Ni were identified as priority control HMs in this study area due to their high contribution rates to health risks. According to the HRA results, the human health risk was associated with crop varieties, HM species, and age groups. Our findings suggest that only limiting the Maximum allowable intake rate is not sufficient to prevent health risks caused by crop HMs, thus more risk precautions are needed.

Electrochemical C-N coupling reaction based on carbon dioxide and nitrate have been emerged as a new "green synthetic strategy" for the synthesis of urea, but the catalytic efficiency is seriously restricted by the inherent scaling relations of adsorption energies of the active sites, the improvement of catalytic activity is frequently accompanied by the decrease in selectivity. Herein, a doping engineering strategy was proposed to break the scaling relationship of intermediate binding and minimize the kinetic barrier of C-N coupling. A thus designed SrCo0.39Ru0.61O3-δ catalyst achieves a urea yield rate of 1522 µg h-1 mgcat. -1 and faradic efficiency of 34.1 % at -0.7 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. A series of characterizations revealed that Co doping not only induces lattice distortion but also creates rich oxygen vacancies (OV) in the SrRuO3. The oxygen vacancies weaken the adsorption of *CO and *NH2 intermediates on the Co and Ru sites respectively, and the strain effects over the Co-Ru dual sites promoting the occurrence of C-N coupling of the two monomers instead of selective hydrogenating to form by-products. This work presents an insight into molecular coupling reactions towards urea synthesis via the doping engineering on SrRuO3.

Background: This study aims to determine the efficacy and safety profile of aumolertinib in the real-word treatment setting for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 173 EGFR-mutated advanced NSCLC patients who received aumolertinib treatment at Henan Cancer Hospital from April 2020 to December 2022. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier survival curves, while a Cox regression model was used for multifactorial analysis and prognostic factor assessment. Results: Among patients administered first-line aumolertinib (n = 77), the objective remission rate (ORR) of 77.92% was observed, along with a disease control rate (DCR) of 100%. The median progression-free survival (mPFS) was 24.97 months, which did not reach the median overall survival (mOS). The patients treated with aumolertinib after progression on prior EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy (n = 96) exhibited an ORR of 46.88%, a DCR of 89.58%, an mPFS of 15.17 months, and an mOS of 21.27 months. First-line treatment multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated a statistically significant impact of elevated creatine kinase on PFS (p = 0.016) and a similar significant influence of co-mutation on OS (p = 0.034). Furthermore, subsequent-line treatment multivariate Cox regression analysis showed a statistically significant impact of elevated creatine kinase on median PFS (p = 0.026) and a significant effect on the number of metastatic organs (p = 0.017), co-mutation (p = 0.035), and elevated creatine kinase (p = 0.014) on median OS. Conclusion: Aumolertinib has shown clinical significance and can safely be used in the real-world setting for patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC.

In order to investigate the impact of environmental conditions on the distribution and migration of 90Sr in the Longji terrace environment, the activity concentrations of 90Sr and 137Cs were determined. The activity concentration ranges of 90Sr and 137Cs in surface soil were 0.15-1.04 Bq/kg and 2.16-6.94 Bq/kg, respectively. These results showed that there was a similar trend between the activity concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs in the surface soil along the runoff path and their activity concentration were influenced by the slope of the terraced terrain. On the other hand, the activity ranges of 90Sr and 137Cs in soil cores were 0.01-2.74 Bq/kg and 0.43-7.19 Bq/kg, respectively. These results indicate that the migration mechanism of 90Sr is different from that of 137Cs. As compared with 137Cs, 90Sr is significantly influenced by the moisture content. In addition, high span of 137Cs/90Sr activity ratios were found in this study, which were attributed to the characteristics of cultivated land and frequent artificial disturbances that intensified the migration of 90Sr.

OBJECTIVES: To examine different trajectories of cognitive changes in elderly adults and explore the mediating role of depressive symptoms. DESIGN: A 7-year, community-based, prospective cohort study. SETTING: The downtown neighborhood of Shanghai, China. PARTICIPANTS: A cohort of 394 older adults, with an average age of 71.8 years, was recruited in 2015 and has been reassessed every two years until 2021. METHODS: Latent Class Growth Analysis was used to model aging trajectories and Linear Mixed-Effect Models for Repeated Measures were used to estimate the least squares mean changes of cognition between subjects with depression (DEP+) and without (DEP-) across all visits. RESULTS: Three cognitive trajectories were identified: the "successful aging" (SA) trajectory had the best and most consistent performance (n=229, 55.9%); the "normal aging" (NA) trajectory showed lower but stable cognition (n=141, 37.3%); while the "cognitive decline" (CD) trajectory displayed poor and declining cognition (n=24, 6.8%). Depressive symptoms were found to be influential across all trajectories. In the CD trajectory, the MoCA scores of the DEP+ group increased in within-group comparisons and were significantly higher than those of the DEP- group at visits 1 and 3 in between-group comparisons. A similar trend was observed in the NA trajectory, though it did not reach statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS: Our research suggests that mild and decreasing depressive symptoms can be a reversible factor that might slow down the irreversible cognitive decline in the elderly. Therefore, we suggest that even mild depressive symptoms in the elderly should be monitored and detected.

Despite the use of various therapies such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy (CAR-T), the prognosis of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is still generally poor. However, immunotherapy is currently a hot topic in the treatment of hematological tumors. Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) can be converted to adenosine diphosphate (ADP) via CD39, and ADP can be converted to adenosine via CD73, which can bind to P1 and P2 receptors to exert immunomodulatory effects. Research on the mechanism of the purinergic signaling pathway can provide a new direction for the treatment of AML, and inhibitors of this signaling pathway have been discovered by several researchers and gradually applied in the clinic. In this paper, the mechanism of the purinergic signaling pathway and its clinical application are described, revealing a new target for the treatment of AML and subsequent improvement in patient prognosis.

Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disease characterized by prolonged hyperglycemia. Prolonged high blood sugar levels interfere with the differentiation and maturation process of OBs and OCs, leading to the onset of osteoporosis. However, OCs differentiation and maturation is a complex regulatory process. In this study, we used a co-culture system of RAW264.7 and MC3T3-E1 cells under HG concentration to explore the effect of CYM on OCs in a HG environment. The effects of CYM on the formation and function of OCs were observed using TRAP-positive cell counts and bone resorption pits. Then, mRNA and protein expression levels of OCs-related genes were detected by real-time qPCR and western blotting. The results showed that CYM had an inhibitory effect on OCs differentiation and bone resorption, reduced mRNAs expression of OCs-associated genes, and downregulated RANKL/RANK/TRAF6 pathway that mediates OCs differentiation. CYM could be a promising natural compound against diabetic osteoporosis.

The contamination detection technology helps in water quality management and protection in surface water. It is important to detect sudden contamination events timely from dynamic variations due to various interference factors in online water quality monitoring data. In this study, a framework named "Prediction - Detection - Judgment" is proposed with a method framework of "Time series increment - Hierarchical clustering - Bayes' theorem model". Time to detection is used as an evaluation index of contamination detection methods, along with the probability of detection and false alarm rate. The proposed method is tested with available public data and further applied in a monitoring site of a river. Results showed that the method could detect the contamination events with a 100% probability of detection, a 17% false alarm rate and a time to detection close to 4 monitoring intervals. The proposed index time to detection evaluates the timeliness of the method, and timely detection ensures that contamination events can be responded to and dealt with in time. The site application also demonstrates the feasibility and practicability of the framework proposed in this study and its potential for extensive implementation.

Sepsis-induced ALI is marked by physiological, pathological, and biochemical irregularities caused by infection. Growth differentiation factor 3 (GDF3) is closely associated with the inflammatory response. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated a close relationship between GDF3 expression and the severity and prognosis of sepsis. However, the precise mechanism by which GDF3 protects against ALI induced by sepsis is still unclear. Following the intravenous administration of GDF3 in this research, we noted a rise in the survival rate, a decrease in the severity of histopathological damage as evaluated through HE staining, a decline in the count of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), a reduction in the ratio of lung wet/dry (W/D) weight, and a noteworthy decrease in the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in both serum and BALF when compared to septic mice who underwent cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). These collective findings unequivocally indicate the protective effects of GDF3 against sepsis-induced ALI. In addition, the GDF3 group showed a significant reduction in the mRNA expression of Caspase-1 and NLRP3 when compared to the CLP group. Following this, we performed in vitro tests to confirm these discoveries and obtained comparable outcomes, wherein the administration of GDF3 notably decreased the levels of Caspase-1 and NLRP3 mRNA and protein in macrophages in comparison to the LPS group. Furthermore, GDF3 exhibited the capacity to reduce the secretion of inflammatory molecules from macrophages. By illuminating the mechanism by which GDF 3 regulates macrophages, this offers a theoretical basis for preventing and treating sepsis-induced ALI.

This was a single-arm, multicenter phase 2 clinical trial (ChiCTR1900021726) involving advanced squamous non-small cell lung cancer (sq-NSCLC) patients undergoing 2 cycles of nab-paclitaxel/carboplatin and sintilimab (anti-PD-1), followed by sintilimab maintenance therapy. The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 11.4 months (95% CI: 6.7-18.1), which met the pre-specified primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints included objective response rate reaching 70.5% and a disease control rate of 93.2%, with a median duration of response of 13.6 months [95% CI: 7.0-not evaluable (NE)]. The median overall survival was 27.2 months (95% CI: 20.2-NE) with treatment-related adverse events grades ≥3 occurring in 10.9% of patients. Predefined exploratory endpoints comprised relationships between biomarkers and treatment efficacy, and the association between circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) dynamics and PFS. Biomarker analysis revealed that the breast cancer gene 2, BMP/Retinoic Acid Inducible Neural Specific 3, F-box/WD repeat-containing protein 7, tyrosine-protein kinase KIT and retinoblastoma 1 abnormalities led to shorter PFS, while ctDNA negative at baseline or clearance at 2 cycles of treatment was associated with longer PFS (18.1 vs. 4.3 months). Taken together, sintilimab in combination with 2 cycles of nab-paclitaxel/carboplatin treatment produced encouraging PFS and better tolerability as first-line treatment for advanced sq-NSCLC.

BACKGROUND: Acute exacerbation (AE) is a life-threatening condition taking place not only in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) but also in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) other than IPF (non-IPF ILD). This study aims to compare the clinical manifestations between patients hospitalised with AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD, and further analyse the risk factors related to in-hospital mortality. METHODS: Clinical data of 406 patients hospitalised with AE-IPF (93 cases) and AE-non-IPF ILD (313 cases) were retrospectively collected. Clinical features were compared between the two groups. Risk factors related to in-hospital mortality in patients with overall AE-ILD, AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD were identified by multiple logistic regression analyses, respectively, and assessed by receiver operating characteristic curve. RESULTS: In addition to having more smokers and males, the AE-IPF group also had more respiratory failure on admission, comorbidities of pulmonary hypertension (PAH) or coronary artery disease/heart failure, a longer history of pre-existing ILD. Comorbidity of coronary heart disease/heart failure, respiratory failure at admission, neutrophil (N)%, serum hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (HBDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and low cholesterol levels were independent risk factors for patients with AE-ILD, while respiratory failure on admission, N%, serum HBDH, urea nitrogen, LDH and low albumin levels were risk factors for the AE-non-IPF ILD group, and fever, N% and PAH were the AE-IPF group's. Among them, HBDH 0.758 (sensitivity 85.5%, specificity 56%, cut-off 237.5 U/L) for patients with AE-ILD; N% 0.838 (sensitivity 62.5%, specificity 91.18%, cut-off 83.55%) for the AE-IPF group and HBDH 0.779 (sensitivity 86.4%, specificity 55.1%, cut-off 243.5 U/L) for the AE-non-IPF ILD group were the risk factors with the highest area under the curve. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical characteristics differ between patients with AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD. HBDH outperformed LDH in predicting the prognosis for patients with AE-ILD and AE-non-IPF ILD. N% was an independent predictor of death in-hospital in all three groups, especially in the AE-IPF group.

Nodal spreading influence is the capability of a node to activate the rest of the network when it is the seed of spreading. Combining nodal properties (centrality metrics) derived from local and global topological information respectively has been shown to better predict nodal influence than using a single metric. In this work, we investigate to what extent local and global topological information around a node contributes to the prediction of nodal influence and whether relatively local information is sufficient for the prediction. We show that by leveraging the iterative process used to derive a classical nodal centrality such as eigenvector centrality, we can define an iterative metric set that progressively incorporates more global information around the node. We propose to predict nodal influence using an iterative metric set that consists of an iterative metric from order 1 to K produced in an iterative process, encoding gradually more global information as K increases. Three iterative metrics are considered, which converge to three classical node centrality metrics, respectively. In various real-world networks and synthetic networks with community structures, we find that the prediction quality of each iterative based model converges to its optimal when the metric of relatively low orders ( K ∼ 4 ) are included and increases only marginally when further increasing K. This fast convergence of prediction quality with K is further explained by analyzing the correlation between the iterative metric and nodal influence, the convergence rate of each iterative process and network properties. The prediction quality of the best performing iterative metric set with K = 4 is comparable with the benchmark method that combines seven centrality metrics: their prediction quality ratio is within the range [ 91 % , 106 % ] across all three quality measures and networks. In two spatially embedded networks with an extremely large diameter, however, iterative metric of higher orders, thus a large K, is needed to achieve comparable prediction quality with the benchmark.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate empirically the direct effect and potential mechanism of family resilience on patient-reported outcomes among young stroke dyads in China. BACKGROUND: Young patients with stroke have been becoming an important public health issue. According to relevant theories and previous studies, we found that family resilience might play an important role in patient's symptoms. However, it is less clear about the specific relationship and potential mechanisms of these two variables. DESIGN: We used a prospective cross-sectional design. METHODS: A multi-item questionnaire was used to assess the constructs of interest. Researchers progressively constructed and validated conditional process models. The PROCESS macro was used to verify the research hypotheses. RESULTS: A total of 560 questionnaires were collected in this study. We found that family resilience of stroke patients and their spouses had a direct effect on the physical, psychological and social aspects of patient-reported symptoms. We further revealed that caregiver preparedness partially mediated the relationship between family resilience and patient's symptoms in stroke patient-spouse dyads, while perceived social support moderated the relationship between caregiver preparedness and patient's symptoms. Finally, we observed that the impact of caregiver readiness and social support on patients' symptoms predominantly manifested in physical and physiological outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Our research provides evidence about the positive impact of family resilience on patient-reported symptoms in young stroke dyads. Meanwhile, it further revealed how caregiver preparedness and perceived social support may play out in the relationship. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Our research introduces a novel perspective and pathway to enhance short-term recovery outcomes for patients. It also furnishes clinicians and nurses with evidence to guide the implementation of interventions aimed at improving patient health outcomes and facilitating smoother transitions from the hospital to home. IMPACT: What problem did the study address? Families play a crucial role in a patient's recovery process from illness, with family resilience serving as an important force for families to overcome adversity. However, the impact on patient symptoms and the underlying mechanisms of this relationship are uncertain. Empirical research is required to validate these aspects. What were the main findings? Family resilience has a positive impact on the physical, psychological and social aspects of patient-reported symptoms in young stroke dyads. Both the actor effect and partner effect are supported. The impact of caregiver readiness and social support on patient-reported symptoms is primarily observed in physical and physiological outcomes. Where and on whom will the research have an impact? This study offers a novel approach to enhance the short-term recovery of stroke patients. The researchers believe that the findings of this study will play an even more significant role during patients' transition from the hospital to home. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyzed by transition-metal single-atom catalysts (SACs) is promising for practical applications in energy-conversion devices, but great challenges still remain due to the sluggish kinetics of O═O cleavage. Herein, a kind of high-density iron network-like sites catalysts are constructed with optimized intermetallic distances on an amino-functionalized carbon matrix (Fe-HDNSs). Quasi-in situ soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy and in situ synchrotron infrared characterizations demonstrate that the optimized intermetallic distances in Fe-HDNSs can in situ activate the molecular oxygen by fast electron compensation through the hybridized Fe 3d-O 2p, which efficiently facilitates the cleavage of the O═O bond to *O species and highly suppresses the side reactions for an accelerated kinetics of the 4e- ORR. As a result, the well-designed Fe-HDNSs catalysts exhibit superior performances with a half-wave potential of 0.89 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a kinetic current density of 72 mA cm-2 @0.80 V versus RHE, exceeding most of the noble-metal-free ORR catalysts. This work offers some new insights into the understanding of 4e- ORR kinetics and reaction pathways to boost electrochemical performances of SACs.

The study of heavy metal(loid) (HM) contamination in soil using extensive data obtained from published literature is an economical and convenient method. However, the uneven distribution of these data in time and space limits their direct applicability. Therefore, based on the concentration data obtained from the published literature (2000-2020), we investigated the relationship between soil HM accumulation and various anthropogenic activities, developed a hybrid model to predict soil HM concentrations, and then evaluated their ecological risks. The results demonstrated that various anthropogenic activities were the main cause of soil HM accumulation using Geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model. The hybrid Co-kriging + GTWR model, which incorporates two of the most influential auxiliary variables, can improve the accuracy and reliability of predicting HM concentrations. The predicted concentrations of eight HMs all exceeded the background values for soil environment in China. The results of the ecological risk assessment revealed that five HMs accounted for more than 90% of the area at the "High risk" level (RQ ≥ 1), with the descending order of Ni (100%) = Cu (100%) > As (98.73%) > Zn (95.50%) > Pb (94.90%). This study provides a novel approach to environmental pollution research using the published data.

This study explored the effect of glutathione assisted continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) on peripheral blood receptors in sepsis patients with acute kidney injury. A total of 196 sepsis patients with acute kidney injury were recruited to perform a retrospective cohort study, 98 patients treated with glutathione combined with CRRT were included as the combination group, and then 98 patients treated with CRRT alone were included as the control group during the same period. The outcome was changes in the levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Scr), peripheral blood receptors, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II, and sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) before and after treatment. After treatment, the levels of BUN and Scr in both groups of patients were significantly lower than those before treatment, and the levels in the combination group were lower than those in the control group. After treatment, toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 and TLR2 levels in both groups of patients were lower than those before treatment, and the levels in the combination group were lower than those in the control group. After treatment, the APACHE II and SOFA scores of the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the scores in the combination group were lower than those in the control group. Glutathione-assisted CRRT can improve the renal function of patients and reduce the immune inflammatory response of sepsis patients with acute kidney injury, which can be widely promoted in the clinic.
