BACKGROUND: To explore the safety and effectiveness of personalized exercise intervention during chemotherapy for lung cancer patients who were relatively weak and with compromised cardiopulmonary function. METHODS: Thirty-eight lung cancer patients treated with chemotherapy at Peking University Third Hospital were enrolled in this prospective study. The exercise group (N = 21) received individualized exercise guidance based on personal test results and exercised regularly, while the control group (N = 17) only received exercise education and planed exercise methods according to their own preferences. Both groups underwent three fitness tests and clinical indicator assessments at 0, 6, and 12 weeks after starting the exercise, and the differences in trends of various indicators between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: No exercise-related adverse events occurred during the 12-week exercise period. After 12 weeks of exercise training, in terms of fitness, the exercise group showed significant improvements in 6-min walk test (6MWT) (p < 0.001), peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) (p = 0.005), muscle content (p < 0.001), muscle percentage (p < 0.001), and grip strength (p = 0.008) compared to the control group. In terms of clinical indicators, the exercise group showed significant improvements in vital capacity (p = 0.018), D-dimer (p = 0.031), and C-reactive protein (CRP) (p = 0.01), uric acid (p = 0.003), triglycerides (p < 0.001), functional average score (p < 0.001), and main symptom average score (p = 0.004) compared to the control group in trends over time. CONCLUSION: Rehabilitation exercises using individualized exercise prescriptions tailored by exercise prescription specialists during chemotherapy are safe for lung cancer patients. Adhering to exercise can achieve comprehensive improvements in physical fitness and quality of life at 12 weeks.

Senegalese sole, Solea senegalensis, is a flatfish of high commercial value in the world. It has been identified as an interesting and promising species for marine commercial aquaculture diversification in Europe for at least four decades and was introduced to China in 2003. Early ontogenesis from embryo to juvenile stages in S. senegalensis was analysed under controlled laboratory conditions to provide morphological information for aquaculture. From 0 to 59 days post hatching (dph), 10-20 larvae were sampled and measured each day (0-17 dph) or every 2-6 days (17-59 dph). Morphological characteristics from the egg to the juvenile stage were described. The eggs were separate and spherical with multiple oil globules. After 3 dph, the yolk sac was completely absorbed, mouth and anus were open, a swim bladder appeared, and larvae began feeding on rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis). The larvae began metamorphosis as the notochord flexed upward and the left eye migrated upward after 10 dph. The left eye migrated to the dorsal midline at 15 dph. At 19 dph, the left eye was translocated to the right-ocular side, and the juveniles adopted a benthic lifestyle. The swim bladder degenerated, and the juveniles completed metamorphosis at 23 dph. The growth patterns of some parameters (TL, SL, BH, BW) during larval and juvenile development stages were identified. The inflection points, which are slopes of growth changes, were calculated in growth curves. Three inflection points occurring in the growth curves of larvae and juveniles were found to be associated with metamorphosis, weaning, and transitions in feeding habits. The basic information of embryo development and ontogenesis in this study represents a valuable contribution to the S. senegalensis industry, especially in artificial breeding and rearing techniques.

Stacking two atomic layers together can induce interlayer (sliding) ferroelectricity that is absent in their naturally occurring crystal forms. With the flexibility of two-dimensional materials, more layers could be assembled to give rise to even richer polarization states. Here, we show that three-layer boron nitride can host ferro- and antiferroelectric domains in the same sample. When used as a tunneling junction, the polarization of these domains could be switched in a layer-by-layer procedure, producing multiple resistance states. Theoretical investigation reveals an important role played by the interaction between the trilayer boron nitride and graphene substrate. These findings reveal the great potential and unique properties of 2D sliding ferroelectric materials.

Low-dimensional ferroelectric tunnel junctions are appealing for the realization of nanoscale nonvolatile memory devices due to their inherent advantages of device miniaturization. Those based on current mechanisms have limitations, including low tunneling electroresistance (TER) effects and complex heterostructures. Here, we introduce an entirely new TER mechanism to construct a nanotube ferroelectric tunnel junction with ferroelectric nanotubes as the tunneling region. When rolling a ferroelectric monolayer into a nanotube, due to the coexistence of its intrinsic ferroelectric polarization with the flexoelectric polarization induced by bending, a metal-insulator transition occurs depending on the radiative polarization states. For the pristine monolayer, its out-of-plane polarization is tunable by an in-plane electric field, and the conducting states of the ferroelectric nanotube can thus be tuned between metallic and insulating states via axial electric means. Using α-In2Se3 as an example, our first-principles density functional theory calculations and nonequilibrium Green's function formalism confirm the feasibility of the TER mechanism and indicate an ultrahigh TER ratio that exceeds 9.9 × 1010% of the proposed nanotube ferroelectric tunnel junctions. Our findings provide a promising approach based on simple homogeneous structures for high density ferroelectric microelectric devices with excellent ON/OFF performance.

Portal hypertension (PH) can cause a series of complications, therefore, early prediction of PH is important. Traditional diagnostic methods are harmful to the human body, while other non-invasive methods are inaccurate and lack physical meaning. Combining various fractal theories and flow laws, we establish a complete portal system blood flow model from the Computed Tomography (CT) and angiography images. The portal vein pressure (PP) is obtained by the flow rate data from the Doppler ultrasound and the pressure-velocity relationship is established by the model. Three normal participants and 12 patients with portal hypertension were divided into three groups. For the three normal participants (Group A), their mean PP calculated by the model is 1752 Pa, falling into the normal range of PP. The mean PP of three patients with portal vein thrombosis (Group B) is 2357 Pa; and for the 9 patients with cirrhosis (Group C), their mean PP is 2915 Pa. These results validate the classification performance of the model. Moreover, the blood flow model can give early warning parameters of the corresponding portal vein trunk and portal vein microtubules for thrombosis and liver cirrhosis. This model presents the complete process of blood flow from sinusoids to the portal vein, adapts to the diagnosis of portal hypertension of thrombosis and liver cirrhosis, and provides a new method for noninvasive portal vein pressure detection from the perspective of biomechanics.

OBJECTIVES: Until now, there have been few tools to evaluate whether a surgeon was technically ready to perform a safe pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ). In the current study, we aimed to evaluate whether a three-dimensional model could mimic a real surgical situation and distinguish between surgeons of different levels of experiences. DESIGN: A three-dimensional PJ dry laboratory model was printed. Eight experienced pancreatic surgeons were tasked to evaluate the appearance and tactile sensation of the model. Proficiency was scored based on 15 surgeons with various levels of pancreatic experience performing a PJ on the three-dimensional model. Additionally, the time of manipulation and NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) scores were recorded for each operation. SETTING: Our study was conducted in multimedical centre in China. RESULTS: Compared with real surgical situations, this model had similar appearance (3.96±0.55 out of five points) and tactile sensation (3.85±0.46 out of five points) according to the expert evaluation. Additionally, the chief surgeon group scored the best in proficiency (based on NASA-TLX scores and operative time), and there were statistical differences for performances among surgeons of various levels (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The three-dimensional PJ model could mimic a real surgical situation and can distinguish between surgeons of different levels of experiences.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent locally advanced or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is associated with dismal prognosis because of its highly invasive behavior and resistance to conventional intensive chemotherapy. The identification of effective markers for early diagnosis and prognosis is important for reducing mortality and ensuring that therapy for HNSCC is effective. Chaperonin-containing TCP-1 3 (CCT3) folds cancer-related proteins to control carcinogenesis. The prognostic value and growth association of CCT3 and HNSCC remain unknown. METHODS: The GEO, Oncomine and UALCAN databases were used to examine CCT3 expression in HNSCC. A few clinical HNSCC samples with normal tissues were used to detect CCT3 expression by using immunohistochemistry method. The TCGA-HNSC dataset was used to evaluate the association between expression of CCT3 and prognosis. The molecular mechanism was investigated with gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). CCK-8 and wound healing assays were used to detect cell growth and invasion of HNSCC, respectively. RESULTS: CCT3 expression was significantly up-regulated in HNSCC in both mRNA and protein levels. In addition, up-regulated CCT3 expression was associated with various clinicopathological parameters. High expression of CCT3 was significantly correlated with inferior survival of HNSCC patients. Knockdown of CCT3 significantly inhibited cell growth and invasion of HNSCC cell lines. GSEA analysis indicated that CCT3 was closely correlated with tumor-related signaling pathways and HNSCC cell survival. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that CCT3 is a biomarker of poor prognosis and related to the process of HNSCC.

Solar-driven interfacial steam generation (SDISG), as an emerging green and renewable approach to overcome water shortage, is very suitable for remote locations, developing countries, and disaster zones because it does not require an additional energy supply. However, the traditional metal-based and carbon-based absorbers always suffered from fragility (or rigidity) and the complex preparation process, which dramatically inhibited their transportation and installation in areas with poor infrastructure. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a universal method to fabricate flexible solar evaporators. Herein, a novel solar evaporator that integrates a flexible matrix (Cu mesh or textile) and a hierarchical Fe-MOF-74 photothermal absorber component is perfectly prepared for the rapid and efficient SDISG. Notably, the results show that Fe-MOF-74-based flexible textile matrix composites exhibit outstanding light absorption (83.81%), low thermal conductivity (0.1730 W/m K), super hydrophilic properties (within 50 ms, the contact angle is close to 0°), excellent salt resistance, high evaporation rate (1.35 kg/m2 h), and photothermal conversion efficiency (η is 81.5% under one sun, stable for 30 days). Owing to the flexibility, recyclability, and above-mentioned excellent performance, the prepared hierarchical Fe-MOF-74-based flexible composite systems are more practical for transportation, large-scale production, and stable and efficient applications. As a result, this work offers new insight into the future development of the combination of a MOF-based photothermal absorber and flexible substrates, as well as for the application of interfacial solar seawater desalination, and provides a new reference for other applications.

ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a common cardiovascular emergency for which timely reperfusion therapies are needed to minimize myocardial necrosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and reorganization of chest pain centers (CPC) on the practice of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) and prognosis of STEMI patients. This single-center retrospective survey included all patients with STEMI admitted to our CPC from January 22, 2020 to April 30, 2020 (during COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan), compared with those admitted during the analogous period in 2019, in respect of important time points of PPCI and clinical outcomes of STEMI patients. In the present article, we observed a descending trend in STEMI hospitalization and a longer time from symptom onset to first medical contact during the COVID-19 pandemic as compared to the control period (4.35 h versus 2.58 h). With a median delay of 17 minutes in the door to balloon time (D2B), the proportion of in-hospital cardiogenic shock was significantly higher in the COVID-19 era group (47.6% versus 19.5%), and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) tend to increase in the 6-month follow-up period (14.3% versus 2.4%). Although the reorganization of CPC may prolong the D2B time, immediate revascularization of the infarct-related artery could be offered to most patients within 90 minutes upon arrival. PPCI remained the preferred treatment for patients with STEMI during COVID-19 pandemic in the context of timely implementation and appropriate protective measures.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent locally advanced or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is associated with dismal prognosis because of its highly invasive behavior and resistance to conventional intensive chemotherapy. The identification of effective markers for early diagnosis and prognosis is important for reducing mortality and ensuring that therapy for HNSCC is effective. Proteasome 26S subunit, non-ATPase 7 (PSMD7) is an ATP-independent component of the 19S regulatory subunit. The prognostic value of PSMD7 and the association with immune infiltration in HNSCC remains unclear. METHODS: The Sangerbox, Oncomine, UALCAN and Human Protein Atlas (HPA) databases were used to examine PSMD7 expression profiles in HNSCC. The CVCDAP was used to analysis the association of PSMD7 with the prognosis of patients with HNSCC. The mechanism was investigated with gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). The association between expression of PSMD7 and immune infiltration in HNSCC was investigated using the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), TISIDB database and CIBERSORT algorithm. RESULTS: PSMD7 expression was significantly up-regulated in HNSCC compared with relative normal tissues. In addition, up-regulated PSMD7 expression was associated with various clinicopathological parameters. High expression of PSMD7 suggested inferior survival of HNSCC patients. GSEA and CERES score indicated that PSMD7 was closely correlated with tumor-related signaling pathways and cell survival. Functional analyses revealed that PSMD7 was positively correlated with various infiltration levels. Moreover, PSMD7 influenced the prognosis of HNSCC patients partially via immune infiltration. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that PSMD7 is associated poor prognosis in patients with HNSCC and plays an important role in tumor-related immune infiltration.

Background: The liver-specific microRNA-122 (miR-122) has been demonstrated as a powerful and promising biomarker of hepatic diseases. However, the researches on the accuracy of miR122 detection in chronic viral hepatitis have been inconsistent, leading us to conduct this meta-analysis to systematically summarize the diagnostic value of circulating miR-122 in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and/or hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated chronic viral hepatitis.Methods: A comprehensive literature search (updated to January 30, 2019) in PubMed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang, and CQVIP databases was performed to identify eligible studies. The sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE), positive and negative likelihood ratios (PLR and NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and area under the curve (AUC) were pooled to explore the diagnostic performance of circulating miR-122. Subgroup and threshold effect analysis were further carried out to explore the heterogeneity.Results: Overall, 15 studies were finally included in this meta-analysis according to the exclusion and inclusion criteria. The pooled estimates indicated a moderately high diagnostic accuracy for circulating miR-122, with a sensitivity of 0.92 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.86-0.95], a specificity of 0.84 (95% CI, 0.78-0.89), a PLR of 5.7 (95% CI, 4.7-8.1), a NLR of 0.1 (95% CI, 0.06-0.18), a DOR of 57 (95% CI 25-129), and an AUC of 0.93 (95% CI, 0.91-0.95). The subgroup analysis demonstrated that diagnostic accuracy was better for HCV-associated chronic viral hepatitis patients and non-Chinese compared with other subgroups. In addition, we found that serum might be a more promising matrix for detecting the expression of miR-122 than plasma.Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that circulating miR-122 have a relatively high diagnostic value for chronic viral hepatitis detection, especially in the patients with HCV-associated chronic viral hepatitis. However, further large cohort studies are still required to confirm our findings.

microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in cancer development and progression, and have regulatory roles as tumor suppressors or oncogenes. Although aberrant expression of miR-187 has been observed in several types of cancer, its pathophysiological role and relevance to tumorigenesis in gastric cancer (GC) remains unknown. In the present study, the expression and biological role of miR-187 was investigated in 32 specimens of GC tissues and their adjacent non-tumorigenic controls, and the association between miR-187 expression and clinical features of GC were analyzed further. Kaplan-Meier survival curves determined the clinical significance of miR-187 expression in GC. Following transfection with miR-187 mimics, the biological functions of miR-187 were determined by cell proliferation and cell cycle assays. Moreover, following transfection with miR-187 mimics, the targets regulated by miR-187 were investigated using western blotting. Luciferase reporter assays confirmed whether miR-187 regulated MAD2 mitotic arrest deficient-like 2 (MAD2L2) and stomatin (EPB72)-like 2 (STOML2) expression. The data of the present study revealed that miR-187 was significantly downregulated in GC compared with adjacent non-tumorigenic counterparts. Furthermore, decreased expression of miR-187 correlated with cell differentiation (P<0.05), TNM staging (P<0.05) and poor prognosis in GC patients. Functional studies indicated that miR-187 overexpression evidently inhibited MGC-803 cell proliferation in vitro and altered the cell cycle by arresting cells in the G0/G1 phase. In addition, the luciferase assay and western blotting revealed that MAD2L2 and STOML2 were targeted by miR-187. In conclusion, it is suggested that miR-187 functions as a tumor suppressor in GC, and is important in the development and progression of GC. Moreover, miR-187 may be a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in GC.

Reclaimed water reuse has become an important means of alleviating agricultural water shortage worldwide. However, the presence of endocrine disrupters has roused up considerable attention. Barrel test in farmland was conducted to investigate the migration of nonylphenol (NP) and bisphenol A (BPA) in soil-winter wheat system simulating reclaimed water irrigation. Additionally, the health risks on humans were assessed based on US EPA risk assessment model. The migration of NP and BPA decreased from the soil to the winter wheat; the biological concentration factors (BCFs) of NP and BPA in roots, stems, leaves, and grains all decreased with their added concentrations in soils. The BCFs of NP and BPA in roots were greatest (0.60-5.80 and 0.063-1.45, respectively). The average BCFs of NP and BPA in winter wheat showed negative exponential relations to their concentrations in soil. The amounts of NP and BPA in soil-winter wheat system accounted for 8.99-28.24% and 2.35-4.95%, respectively, of the initial amounts added into the soils. The hazard quotient (HQ) for children and adults ranged between 10-6 and 1, so carcinogenic risks could be induced by ingesting winter wheat grains under long-term reclaimed water irrigation.

Some delivery carriers with injectable characteristics were built using the thermosensitive chitosan/dextran-polylactide/glycerophosphate hydrogel and selected alginate microspheres for the controllable release of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2). BMP-2 was first loaded into the microspheres with an average size of around 20 µm and the resulting microspheres were then embedded into the gel in order to achieve well-controlled BMP-2 release. The microsphere-embedded gels show their incipient gelation temperature at around 32 °C and pH at about 7.1. Some gels had their elastic modulus close to 1400 Pa and the ratio of elastic modulus to viscous modulus at around 34, revealing that they behaved like mechanically strong gels. Optimized microsphere-embedded gels were found to be able to administer the BMP-2 release without significant initial burst release in an approximately linear manner over a period of time longer than four weeks. The release rate and the released amount of BMP-2 from these gels could be regulated individually or cooperatively by the initial BMP-2 load and the dextran-polylactide content in the gels. Measurements of the BMP-2 induced alkaline phosphatase activity in C2C12 cells confirmed that C2C12 cells responded to BMP-2 in a dose-dependent way and the released BMP-2 from the microsphere-embedded gels well retained their bioactivity. In vivo assessment of some gels revealed that the released BMP-2 maintained its osteogenesis functions.
