RESUMEN

Background: Repeated episodes of jaundice and pruritus are common in a group of autosomal recessive liver diseases known as benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis. Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (BRIC) is divided into two types, type 1 and type 2, and is caused by mutations in the ATP8B1 and ABCB11 genes. Here, we report a rare case of BRIC type 2 mutation. Case presentation: A 45-year-old Chinese man had three frequent episodes of jaundice marked by extensive excoriation and severe pruritis, although he had no prior history of jaundice. Laboratory investigations showed no evidence of liver damage caused by viral, autoimmune, or acquired metabolic etiologies. The CT scan revealed an enlarged gallbladder with numerous punctate high-density shadows, while no wall thickening was observed. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed no evidence of dilation of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct, as well as the absence of gallstone. Diagnostic evaluation: Immunohistochemical examinations of liver biopsy samples showed cytokeratin-7 positive hepatocytes, suggesting chronic intrahepatic cholestasis. The reticulin fiberstaining demonstrated that the portions of the hepatic plate in the center of the lobule were asymmetrically organized,and somewhat enlarged, with collapsed areas indicating intralobular inflammation. Moreover, there were areas of collapse that indicated the presence of intralobular inflammation. Whole exome sequencing revealed mutations in the ABCB11 gene; c.3084A>G, p.A1028A homozygous mutation (chr2-169789016), and c.2594C>T, p.A865V heterozygous mutation (chr2-169801131). Based on these findings, the final diagnosis of the patient was metabolism-related jaundice. Treatment: Apart from receiving tapering dosage of prednisone to lower bilirubin levels, the patient received no extra care. Conclusion: The comprehensive diagnosis of a middle-aged male patient with BRIC-2, which involved extensive radiological, hematological, and genetic investigations, informed a tailored tapering prednisone regimen, highlighting the importance of personalized medicine in managing atypical presentations of this rare cholestatic disorder.

In insects, vision is crucial in finding host plants, but its role in nocturnal insects is largely unknown. Vision involves responses to specific spectra of photon wavelengths and opsins plays an important role in this process. Long-wavelength sensitive opsin (LW opsin) and blue-sensitive opsin (BL opsin) are main visual opsin proteins and play important in behavior regulation.We used CRISPR/Cas9 technology to mutate the long-wavelength-sensitive and blue wavelength-sensitive genes and explored the role of vision in the nocturnal invasive pest Tuta absoluta. Light wave experiments revealed that LW2(-/-) and BL(-/-) mutants showed abnormal wavelength tropism. Both LW2 and BL mutations affected the preference of T. absoluta for the green environment. Mutations in LW2 and BL are necessary to inhibit visual attraction. The elimination of LW2 and BL affected the preference of leaf moths for green plants, and mutations in both induced a preference in moths for white plants. Behavioral changes resulting from LW2(-/-) and BL(-/-) mutants were not affected by sense of smell, further supporting the regulatory role of vision in insect behavior. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to reveal that vision, not smell, plays an important role in the host-seeking behavior of nocturnal insects at night, of which LW2 and BL opsins are key regulatory factors. These study findings will drive the development of the "vision-ecology" theory.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the beneficial effect of baicalin on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the mechanism is unclear. Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of baicalin on pulmonary vascular remodeling (PVR) with a focus on calpain-1-mediated endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT). Methods: PAH was induced by intraperitoneal injection of monocrotaline (MCT) in rats and hypoxia in calpain-1 gene knockout (Capn1-/-) and wild-type C57BL/6 mice. An in vitro PVR model was established in PASMCs and HPAECs. Results: The data showed that baicalin treatment and calpain-1 inhibition alleviated MCT and hypoxia-induced increases in right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), prevented right ventricle hypertrophy and PVR, and attenuated cardiopulmonary fibrosis. Moreover, baicalin ameliorated PAH-induced EndMT, as evidenced by the suppressed expression of mesenchymal markers vimentin, and α-SMA and restored expression of endothelial markers CD31, and VE-cadherin. In vitro studies showed that baicalin treatment blocked TGF-ß1-induced EndMT in HPAECs and abolished hypoxia-induced PASMC proliferation and migration. All the beneficial effects of baicalin on PVR in vitro and in vivo were accompanied by suppressed calpain-1 expression. Further study demonstrated that baicalin treatment and calpain-1 inhibition inhibited the enhanced expression of PI3K and p-AKT both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusions: In conclusion, baicalin treatment attenuates PVR by inhibiting calpain-1 and PI3K/Akt-mediated EndMT.

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a ubiquitous organosulfur molecule in marine environments with important roles in global sulfur and nutrient cycling, which is mainly produced by marine phytoplankton and macroalgae. Marinomonas algicola SM1966T, a Gram-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, was isolated from the surface of Ulva pertusa (Chlorophyta) algal sample collected off the coastal areas of Rongcheng, China. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of strain SM1966T and its genomic characteristics to utilize DMSP, which may be produced by Ulva pertusa. The genome of strain SM1966T contains one circular chromosome (4.3 Mbp) and one circular plasmid (149,271 bp). Genomic analysis showed that strain SM1966T possesses a set of genes involved in DMSP transport, DMSP cleavage and the catabolism of acrylate, one product of DMSP cleavage. The results indicated that strain SM1966T has the capacity to utilize DMSP and produce dimethyl sulfide (DMS), a volatile infochemical with important roles in global sulfur cycling. This study provides genetic insights into DMSP catabolism by algae-associated bacteria.

Exposure to extreme temperatures can hinder the development of insects and even reduce their survival rate. However, the invasive species Bemisia tabaci exhibits an impressive response to different temperatures. This study aims to identify important transcriptional changes of B. tabaci occupying different temperature habitats by performing RNA sequencing on populations originating from three regions of China. The results showed that the gene expression of B. tabaci populations inhabiting regions with different temperatures was altered and identified 23 potential candidate genes that respond to temperature stress. Furthermore, three potential regulatory factors' (the glucuronidation pathway, alternative splicing, and changes in the chromatin structure) response to different environmental temperatures were identified. Among these, the glucuronidation pathway is a notable regulatory pathway. A total of 12 UDP-glucuronosyltransferase genes were found in the transcriptome database of B. tabaci obtained in this study. The results of DEGs analysis suggest that UDP-glucuronosyltransferases with a signal peptide may help B. tabaci resist temperature stress by sensing external signals, such as BtUGT2C1 and BtUGT2B13, which are particularly important in responding to temperature changes. These results will provide a valuable baseline for further research on the thermoregulatory mechanisms of B. tabaci that contributes to its ability to effectively colonize regions with considerable temperature differences.

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a marine organosulfur compound with important roles in stress protection, marine biogeochemical cycling, chemical signalling and atmospheric chemistry. Diverse marine microorganisms catabolize DMSP via DMSP lyases to generate the climate-cooling gas and info-chemical dimethyl sulphide. Abundant marine heterotrophs of the Roseobacter group (MRG) are well known for their ability to catabolize DMSP via diverse DMSP lyases. Here, a new DMSP lyase DddU within the MRG strain Amylibacter cionae H-12 and other related bacteria was identified. DddU is a cupin superfamily DMSP lyase like DddL, DddQ, DddW, DddK and DddY, but shares <15% amino acid sequence identity with these enzymes. Moreover, DddU proteins forms a distinct clade from these other cupin-containing DMSP lyases. Structural prediction and mutational analyses suggested that a conserved tyrosine residue is the key catalytic amino acid residue in DddU. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that the dddU gene, mainly from Alphaproteobacteria, is widely distributed in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and polar oceans. For reference, dddU is less abundant than dddP, dddQ and dddK, but much more frequent than dddW, dddY and dddL in marine environments. This study broadens our knowledge on the diversity of DMSP lyases, and enhances our understanding of marine DMSP biotransformation.

Chinese fir in China are generally inefficient plantations with single species, unreasonable stand density, and low productivity. The introduction of broadleaved species is usually adopted as a strategy to improve Chinese fir plantations. Taking the pure forests and mixed forests of the Guanshan Forest Farm in Jiangxi Province as example, we quantified the intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE) of trees based on the stable isotope carbon method, as well as its response to meteorological factors, and investigated the improvement of stand quality after introducing Phoebe zhennan into Chinese fir plantation. The results showed that the basal area increment was 0.23 cm2 in pure forest, being higher than that of 0.19 cm2 in mixed forest. The δ13C and iWUE of pure forest were -27.4‰ and 52.9%, respectively, being lower than those of -26.7‰ and 62.8% in the mixed forest. Tree δ13C in pure forest was more sensitive to changes in mean annual precipitation and mean annual relative humidity, while that in mixed forest was not significantly correlated with meteorological factors. Pure forest iWUE was positively correlated with mean annual temperature, mean annual atmospheric CO2 concentration, and mean annual maximum temperature, and negatively correlated with mean annual precipitation and mean annual relative humidity, while mixed forest iWUE was positively correlated with mean annual atmospheric CO2 concentration only. Our results indicated that pure forests was more sensitive to climate than mixed forests.

Objective: After subarachnoid hemorrhage, magnesium could reduce the incidence of delayed cerebral ischemia; however, it is still controversial. This study updated the results of recently published magnesium-related studies and conducted an exploratory analysis of the impact of application strategies and intervention factors on the results. Methods: Public databases were searched from the date of their inception to May 10, 2021. Randomized controlled trials on magnesium agent-related regimens for subarachnoid hemorrhage patients were included. Results: In total, 28 articles were included in the meta-analysis. For delayed cerebral ischemia, magnesium-related interventions significantly reduced the risk of delayed cerebral ischemia compared with nonmagnesium interventions (odds ratios: 0.40; 95% confidence interval: 0.28-0.56; p < 0.01). For cerebral vasospasm, a random effects model showed that magnesium significantly reduced the risk of cerebral vasospasm (odds ratios: 0.46; 95% confidence interval: 0.33-0.63; p < 0.01). In the subgroup analysis, intracranial magnesium (odds ratios: 6.67; 95% confidence interval: 1.14-38.83; p=0.03) and magnesium plus hydrogen (odds ratios: 10; 95% confidence interval: 1.59-62.73; p=0.01) produced significant results in improving the good recovery rate compared to the control. In the network meta-analysis, magnesium plus nimodipine and simvastatin even showed an effective trend in death/persistent vegetative status improvement. Conclusion: This study supports the beneficial effect of magnesium in reducing the risk of delayed cerebral ischemia. Based on a single randomized controlled trial, immediate intracranial magnesium therapy with intravenous hydrogen after subarachnoid hemorrhage can increase the good recovery rate. Therefore, more high-quality studies are needed to confirm this finding.

The tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) is one of the world's most destructive pests of tomato, and because of its severe economic impacts, as well as the development of pesticide resistance, the species has been intensively studied, especially in regard to the identification of targets for T. absoluta control. However, functional genomic studies of T. absoluta have been constrained by a lack of effective genetic tools. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to develop a CRISPR/Cas9 zygote microinjection protocol for generating heritable mutations in T. absoluta, using the ommochrome synthesis gene cinnabar as an easily evaluated target gene. The injection of fertilised eggs with Cas9 protein and four sgRNAs, which targeted cinnabar exon 3, resulted in a mutagenesis rate of 31.9% for eggs reaching adulthood, and cinnabar mutagenesis resulted in either red or mosaic eye colour phenotypes. As such, this study is the first to report a complete and detailed CRISPR/Cas9 workflow for the efficient genome editing of the globally important invasive pest T. absoluta. The application of this robust genome-editing tool to T. absoluta will greatly facilitate the discovery of suitable RNAi control targets and the subsequent development of novel control strategies.

As an invasive species, Bemisia tabaci Mediterranean (MED) has notable potential to adapt to a wide range of environmental temperatures, which enables it to successfully spread after invasion and occupy habitats over a wide latitude range. It has been postulated that chromatin remodeling mechanisms are related to the rapid acquisition of adaptive traits and thermal resistance in invasive species; however, relevant experimental evidence is scarce. To identify the molecular characteristics and assess the role of chromatin remodelers in thermal stress within invasive MED and native Asia II 1 of the B. tabaci species complex, we identified 13 switching defective/sucrose non-fermenting (SWI/SNF) and 10 imitation switch (ISWI) family members in the B. tabaci genome, analyzed their molecular characteristics and structures, and identified key mutation sites between MED and Asia II 1, then cloned the catalytic subunits, and revealed the difference in thermal tolerance function. The results showed that the expression levels of Bt-BRM-1 and Bt-BRM-2 were significantly higher in MED than in Asia II 1 during heat stress, and Bt-BRM-2 expression was significantly higher during cold stress. In addition, RNA interference results indicated that the two target genes had similar temperature tolerance function in the both two cryptic species. This study is the first to identify and analyze the molecular characteristics of SWI/SNF and ISWI family members and reveal their potential key roles in temperature tolerance in poikilothermic ectotherms. The results will assist in understanding the underlying temperature adaptation mechanism of invasive insects and will enrich stress adaptation research systems from an epigenetic perspective.

The tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta) is one of the top 20 plant pests worldwide. We cloned and identified the chromatin-remodelling ATPase genes ISWI and BRM by RACE and bioinformatic analysis, respectively; used RT-qPCR to examine their expression patterns during different life cycle stages; and elucidated their roles in insect reproduction using double-stranded RNA injections. The full-length cDNA of TaISWI was 3428 bp and it encoded a 1025-aa polypeptide. The partial-length cDNA of TaBRM was 3457 bp and it encoded a 1030-aa polypeptide. TaISWI and TaBRM were upregulated at the egg stage. Injection of TaISWI or TaBRM dsRNA at the late pupa stage significantly inhibited adult ovary development and reduced fecundity, hatchability, and longevity in the adult females. To the best of our knowledge, the present study was the first to perform molecular characterisations of two chromatin-remodelling ATPase genes and clarify their roles in T. absoluta fecundity. Chromatin-remodelling ATPases are potential RNAi targets for the control of T. absoluta and other insect pests. The present study was also the first to demonstrate the feasibility of reproductive inhibitory RNAi as a putative approach for the suppression of T. absoluta and other Lepidopteran insect populations.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been widely studied by researchers due to their environmental persistence, chemical stability and potential toxicity. Some researchers have reported the physiological and biochemical toxicity of PFASs on plants through traditional and innovative methods; however, the changes in biological macromolecules caused by PFASs are rarely studied. Here, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to study how exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) alters the structure and function of biomolecules of the wetland plant Alisma orientale. Biomass results showed that PFOA had negative effects on plant growth. FTIR results showed that PFOA could result in changes in the structures, compositions, and functions of lipids, proteins and DNA in plant cells. In the treatment groups, the ratios of CH3 to lipids and carbonyl esters to lipids increased compared with the control, while the ratios of CH2 to lipids and olefinicCH to lipids decreased, which indicated lipid peroxidation caused by PFOA exposure. Changes in the compositions and secondary structures of proteins were also found, which were indicated by the decreased ratio of amide I to amide II and the increased ratio of ß-sheet to α-helix in the treatment groups compared to the control. Moreover, PFOA affected the composition of DNA by promoting the B- to A-DNA transition. These results showed that the mechanism of PFOA toxicity toward plants at the biochemical level could be illustrated by FTIR.

The utilization of food resources by aquatic consumers reflects the structure and functioning of river food webs. In lotic water systems, where food availability and predator-prey relationships vary with gradient changes in physical conditions, understanding diet assimilation by local communities is important for ecosystem conservation. In the subtropical Liuxi River, southern China, the relative contribution of basal resources to the diet assimilation of functional feeding groups (FFGs) was determined by stable carbon (13C) and nitrogen (15N) isotope analyses. The output of Bayesian mixing models showed that diatom-dominated periphyton (epilithic biofilm), aquatic C3 plants (submerged hydrophytes), and suspended particulate organic matter (SPOM) associated with terrestrial C3 plants contributed the most to the diet assimilation of FFGs in the upper, middle, and lower reaches, respectively. The relative contribution of consumer diet assimilation was weighted by the biomass (wet weight, g/m2) of each FFG to reflect resource utilization at the assemblage level. From the upper to the lower reaches, the spatial variation in the diet assimilation of fish and invertebrate assemblages could be summarized as a longitudinal decrease in periphyton (from 57%-76% to <3%) and an increase in SPOM (from <7% to 51%-68%) with a notable midstream increase in aquatic C3 plants (23%-48%). These results indicate that instream consumers in the Liuxi River rely more on autochthonous production (e.g., periphyton and submerged hydrophytes) than on terrestrially derived allochthonous matter (e.g., terrestrial plants). The pattern of resource utilization by consumers in the mid-upper Liuxi River is consistent with findings from other open subtropical and neotropical rivers and provides evidence for the riverine productivity model. Our study indicates that protecting inherent producers in rivers (e.g., periphyton and submerged hydrophytes) and restoring their associated habitats (e.g., riffles with cobble substrate) are conducive to aquatic ecosystem management.

Colorectal cancer ranks within the top three cancers both in terms of incidence as well as deaths. Metastasis is often the major cause of mortality and liver is the primary and most common site to which colorectal cancers metastasize. We tested the prognostic ability of a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) signature in liver metastatic colorectal cancers. We first evaluated expression levels of several lncRNAs in eight excised liver metastases from primary colorectal cancers and found significantly upregulated lncRNAs HOTAIR and MALAT1 along with significantly downregulated LOC285194. We further compared the expression levels of HOTAIR, MALAT1 and LOC285194 in primary colorectal tumors at the time of initial diagnosis and correlated them with disease progression and liver metastasis. HOTAIR and MALAT1 were significantly upregulated and LOC285194 was significantly downregulated in twelve patients who were diagnosed with liver metastasis within 5 years of initial diagnosis, compared to the five patients with no metastasis. A positive signature comprising of high HOTAIR/MALAT1 and low LOC285194 also correlated with progression to higher grade tumors. Thus, the lncRNA signature comprising of high HOTAIR/MALAT1 and low LOC285194 could be a prognostic signature for liver metastasis as well as overall poor survival.

To reveal the mechanism of temperature preference in Tuta absoluta, one of the top 20 plant pests in the world, we cloned and identified TaTRPA1, TaPain, and TaPyx genes by RACE and bioinformatic analysis, and clarified their expression profiles during different development stages using real-time PCR, and revealed their function in preference temperature by RNAi. The full-length cDNA of TaPain was 3136 bp, with a 2865-bp open reading frame encoding a 259.89-kDa protein; and the partial length cDNA of TaPyx was 2326-bp, with a 2025-bp open reading frame encoding a 193.16-kDa protein. In addition, the expression of TaTRPA1 and TaPyx was significantly lower in larvae than other stages, and it was significantly higher in pupae and newly emerging males for TaPain. After feeding target double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), the preferred temperature decreased 2 °C more than the control group. In conclusion, the results firstly indicated the molecular characterization of TRPA subfamily genes and their key role in temperature perception in T. absoluta, and the study will help us to understand the temperature-sensing mechanism in the pest, and will provide some basis for study of other Lepidoptera insects' temperature preference. Moreover, it is of great significance in enriching the research progress of "thermos TRP".

We performed a prospective randomized trial with a long-term follow-up to compare the detection rate of dysplasia among WLE with targeted biopsies (WLT), WLE with random biopsies (WLR), and dye-based CE with targeted biopsies (CET) in UC patients. METHODS: Patients with long-standing UC were enrolled from 11 medical centers from March 2012 to December 2013 and randomized into three arms (WLT, WLR, and CET). Only high-definition endoscopy was used in all three groups. The patients were followed up by annual endoscopy with biopsies through December 2017. RESULTS: With a median follow-up time of 55 months, a total of 122 patients with 447 colonoscopies were finally analysed in the per-protocol set: WLT (n = 43), WLR (n = 40), and CET (n = 39). A total of 34 dysplastic lesions were found in 29 colonoscopies of 21 patients. WLR and CET could identify more colonoscopies that diagnosed dysplasia than WLT (8.1% and 9.7% vs 1.9%; P = 0.014 and 0.004, respectively). WLR obtained more biopsied samples than WLT and CET (16.4 ± 5.1 vs 4.3 ± 1.4 and 4.3 ± 1.4; both P < 0.001). During the second half of the follow-up (37 - 69 months), CET could identify more colonoscopies that diagnosed dysplasia than WLT (13.3% vs 1.6%, P = 0.015) and showed a trend for increasing the detection rate compared with WLR (13.3% vs 4.9%, P = 0.107). CONCLUSIONS: For a better outcome of cancer/dysplasia surveillance in patients with long-standing UC, CET appeared to be more effective than WLT and less tedious than WLR. CET was found to be particularly useful when a long-term (>3 years) follow-up was conducted for dysplasia surveillance. The trial was registered on www.chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR1900023689).

Surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy is a reliable therapy for colon cancer, but is associated with side effects and risks. Recent advancements in nanobioengineering in the form of targeted nanoparticles, cubosomes, liposomes, nanosheets, nanorods, quantum dots have generated substantial advancements in theranostics of colon cancer decreasing the cytotoxic drugs' side effects. We describe a facile mechanism of preparation of hybrid nanocomposite encompassing Au and Ag. Preparation of hybrid nanocomposite is one step process which may be easily escalated. The nanocomposite was characterized using transmission eleactron microscopy, energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence and cytotoxic studies. In-vivo studies were carried out in Balb/c mice. Photothermal heating experiments in HeLa cells were promising and the characterization studies clearly indicated the formation of hybrid nanocomposite. In-vivo experiments confirmed the efficacy of treatment, along with involvement of epigenetic regulation, which may be helpful in translation from research to clinical applications.

Invasive species often encounter rapid environmental changes during invasions and only the individuals that successfully overcome environmental stresses can colonize and spread. Chromatin remodeling may be essential in environmental adaptation. To assess the functions of imitation switch (ISWI) in invasive Bemisia tabaci Middle East-Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1) cryptic species, we cloned and characterized the MEAM1 BtISWI gene and determined its functions in response to thermal stress. The full-length cDNA of BtISWI was 3712 bp, with a 3068 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding a 118.86 kDa protein. BtISWI mRNA expression was significantly up-regulated after exposure to heat shock or cold shock conditions, indicating that BtISWI expression can be induced by thermal stress. After feeding double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), specifically for BtISWI, resistance to both heat and cold decreased significantly, suggesting that BtISWI may function directly in the thermal tolerance of MEAM1. Moreover, the preferred temperature of MEAM1 adults fed dsRNA was 1.9-3.5 °C higher than the control groups. Taken together, our findings highlight the importance of epigenetic gene regulation in the thermal response or thermal adaptation of invasive Bemisia tabaci (B. tabaci), and provide a new potential target for establishing sustainable control strategies for B. tabaci.

U-shaped graphene domains have been prepared on a copper substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), which can be precisely tuned for the shape of graphene domains by optimizing the growth parameters. The U-shaped graphene is characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Raman. These show that the U-shaped graphene has a smooth edge, which is beneficial to the seamless stitching of adjacent graphene domains. We also studied the morphology evolution of graphene by varying the flow rate of hydrogen. These findings are more conducive to the study of morphology evolution, nucleation, and growth of graphene domains on the copper substrate.

This study evaluated the significance of serum D-Dimer for predicting survival of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). We analyzed the clinical data from 113 patients who were newly diagnosed with DLBCL at Tongji Hospital from January 2012 to January 2016. The results indicated that there were higher levels of D-Dimer in DLBCL patients with the following characteristics: stage III/IV, lymphocyte monocyte ratio (LMR) <2.27, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) > upper limit of normal (ULN), albumin (ALB) < 35 g/L, and anemia. After the first chemotherapeutic regimen, D-Dimer was significantly decreased concomitantly with LDH. Cox univariate regression analysis showed that the overall survival (OS) was negatively affected by the following factors: age > 60 years, stage III/W, LDH > ULN, LMR < 2.27, anemia and D-Dimer > 0.92. Multivariate analysis showed that only LDH > ULN (P=0.038) and age > 60 years (P=0.047) were independent adverse prognostic factors. However, it was suggested that D-Dimer could be regarded as a marker of high tumor burden and a potential prognostic screening tool for patients with DLBCL, not otherwise specified (NOS).
