BACKGROUND: Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is being increasingly used to treat 2-4 cm renal stones, which can be attributed to advances in flexible ureteroscopes and ureteral access sheaths (UASs). Despite the improvement and application of flexible vacuum-assisted (FV) and intelligent pressure-controlled (IPC) UASs, no studies have compared their therapeutic efficacy and safety. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the therapeutic efficacy and safety of IPC-UAS and FV-UAS in RIRS 2-4 cm renal stones. METHODS: We included 96 and 103 patients who underwent IPC-UAS and FV-UAS RIRS, respectively, for 2-4 cm renal stones. Stone-free rate (SFR), operative time, and complications were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The immediate SFR was 69.8% and 82.5% in the IPC-UAS and FV-UAS groups, respectively (P<0.05). There were no significant between-group differences in the 1-month SFR (84.4% vs. 84.5%, P>0.05). The IPC-UAS group had a shorter hospital stay (5.2±2.4 vs. 6.2±3.2 days, P=0.018) and lower cost (CNY13014.7±3240.7 vs. CNY14022.5±2301.6, P=0.012) than the FV-UAS group. There were no significant between-group differences in operative time or complications. CONCLUSIONS: Regarding RIRS for 2-4 cm renal stones, the IPC-UAS group can achieve a 1-month SFR similar to that of the FV-UAS group, with shorter hospitalization and lower cost. Additionally, the IPC-UAS is a promising device for efficient and safe RIRS, considering its intelligent pressure regulation. Our findings could inform optimal UAS selection for managing large renal calculi and demonstrate the utility of the novel IPC-UAS in improving outcomes of RIRS for 2-4 cm renal stones.

The mechanism of Y on H/H2 adsorption performance of Mg17Al12 were studied by the density functional theory. We obtained that for the Y-adsorbed systems, Y tended to occupy on the bridge site between adjacent Mg atoms. For the Y-substituted surfaces, Y atoms inclined to replace Mg atoms on the surfaces. We found that hydrogen (H/H2) absorption on the Mg17Al12(110) systems were improved by adding Y, the order of adsorption energy was as follows: clean Mg17Al12(110) > the Y-substituted surfaces > the Y-adsorbed surfaces. In addition, H2 molecules could dissociate on the Y-containing systems without barrier energy. Electronic properties showed that for H2 adsorption, the s states of atomic H mainly hybridized with the d states of Y. The formations of the Y-H bonds and the interactions between Y and H atoms could expound the mechanism for the promoted hydrogenation performance of the Y-containing surfaces.

Geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGPPS) is the crucial bottleneck in carotenoid biosynthesis. However, low activity limits the broad application of GGPPS. In this study, OsGGPPS1 in rice was engineered based on ancestral sequence reconstruction (ASR) and semirational design to improve the catalytic performances of existing GGPPS. The better mutant of A22R/A26P with improved enzyme activity was generated based on ASR. Additionally, the improved enzyme activity of mutants as V162A/M218S/F227Y was designed using a semirational design. The combinatorial assembly of the d-OsGGPPS1 mutant (A22R/A26P/V162A/M218S/F227Y) exhibited higher conversion of IPP and each cosubstrate of DMAPP for 9.8-fold in GPP production, GPP for 6.4-fold in FPP production, and FPP for 1.4-fold in GGPP production relative to wild-type OsGGPPS1 at 25 °C, which showed higher conversion than wild-type OsGGPPS1 at temperatures as high as 50 °C. The successful design of OsGGPPS1 was representative of protein engineering, which will shed new light on GGPPS engineering and active plant pigment resource utilization.

Imaging flow cytometry, which combines the advantages of flow cytometry and microscopy, has emerged as a powerful tool for cell analysis in various biomedical fields such as cancer detection. In this study, we develop multiplex imaging flow cytometry (mIFC) by employing a spatial wavelength division multiplexing technique. Our mIFC can simultaneously obtain brightfield and multi-color fluorescence images of individual cells in flow, which are excited by a metal halide lamp and measured by a single detector. Statistical analysis results of multiplex imaging experiments with resolution test lens, magnification test lens, and fluorescent microspheres validate the operation of the mIFC with good imaging channel consistency and micron-scale differentiation capabilities. A deep learning method is designed for multiplex image processing that consists of three deep learning networks (U-net, very deep super resolution, and visual geometry group 19). It is demonstrated that the cluster of differentiation 24 (CD24) imaging channel is more sensitive than the brightfield, nucleus, or cancer antigen 125 (CA125) imaging channel in classifying the three types of ovarian cell lines (IOSE80 normal cell, A2780, and OVCAR3 cancer cells). An average accuracy rate of 97.1% is achieved for the classification of these three types of cells by deep learning analysis when all four imaging channels are considered. Our single-detector mIFC is promising for the development of future imaging flow cytometers and for the automatic single-cell analysis with deep learning in various biomedical fields.

BACKGROUND: Caring for people with dementia is perceived as one of the most challenging caring roles, so effective and practical support is essential. One such innovative approach to internet-based tailored health intervention is the use of recommender system. OBJECTIVE: This study develops a dementia care intelligent recommender system (DCIRS) that can provide personalized and timely care recommendations for caregivers when they encounter difficult various care problems in people with dementia. METHODS: The development process was divided into 3 stages. In stage 1, we complete the construction of the domain knowledge graph of dementia care. In stage 2, the established domain knowledge graph of dementia care was introduced into the recommendation model by the way of graph embedding to form a recommendation model composed of graph embedding module and recommendation module. In stage 3, on the basis of the application of knowledge graph and recommendation mode, DCIRS was developed, for practical use. In addition, DCIRS has been validated for accuracy for assessing the correctness of the profiling and recommendation, by enrolling 56 caregivers. RESULTS: The proposed DCIRS has functions of knowledge graph management and dementia care decision support. Experiments on 56 caregivers in single class recommendation task; the value of accuracy is equals to 98.92% and indicates the high capability of DCIRS. CONCLUSIONS: This study was a pioneering research to develop a more comprehensive DCIRS for caregivers of people with dementia. According to the evaluation results, our DCIRS showing high specificity and accuracy. This system can provide a novel perspective for patient-centered and needs-based support of caregivers of people with dementia.

As an alternative to the criticized antibiotics, probiotics have been adopted for their eco-friendly nature and ability to enhance host growth and immunity. Nevertheless, reports suggest ineffectiveness in commercially available probiotics since most are from non-fish sources; thus, this study was envisaged to isolate and characterize new Bacillus spp. from the gut of hybrid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀ × Epinephelus lanceolatus♂) which could serve as potential probiotics. The isolation and characterization were performed based on their morphological and biochemical properties, and 16S rRNA sequencing homology analysis. A subsequent 30-day in vivo biosafety feeding trial was conducted to ascertain isolates' non-pathogenicity, as well as their effects on fish growth, and intestinal mucosal microvilli via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Four Bacillus spp. strains, namely, B. velezensis strain PGSAK01 (accession number OQ726606), B. stercoris strain PGSAK05 (accession number OQ726607), B. velezensis strain PGSAK17 (accession number OQ726601), and B. subtilis strain PGSAK19 (accession number OQ726605), were identified and characterized in the current study. The strains showed promising probiotic properties such higher adhesion capability, higher thermotolerance, displaying higher survivability to 0.5 % bile, lower pH tolerance, γ-haemolytic activity, and multispecies characteristics. Among the 24 antibiotics tested, while all isolates showed susceptibility to 21, the PGSAK01 strain showed resistance to furazolidone antibiotics. None of the isolates showed possession of i) virulence factor genes encoding enterotoxigenic (hblA, hblC, hblD, nheA, nheB, and entFM) and emetic (cereulide synthetase gene, ces) genes, and ii) streptomycin resistance gene (vat c), ampicillin-resistant genes (mecA and bla), and vancomycin-resistant gene (van B). Nevertheless, the PGSAK01 and PGSAK17 strains showed possession of tek K, cat, and ant(4')-Ia (adenylyltransferase) (except the PGSAK01) resistant genes. All isolates displayed better antimicrobial effects against pathogenic bacteria Streptococcus agalactiae, S. iniae, Vibrio harveyi, and V. alginolyticus. The in vivo biosafety trial involved hybrid grouper fish being grouped into five (average weight 32 ± 0.94 g), namely, the group fed the basal diet void of isolate's supplementation (control), and the remaining four groups fed the basal diet with 1 × 108 CFU/g diet of individual strain PGSAK01, PGSAK05, PGSAK17, and PGSAK19 supplementation. At the end of the study, a significantly higher WGR, K (except the PGSAK01 group), VSI; lysozyme (except PGSAK01 group), total antioxidant activity, alkaline phosphatase, superoxide dismutase enzyme activities; highly dense intestinal mucosal villi (based on the scanning electron microscopy analysis); and significantly lower malondialdehyde levels were witnessed in the isolated treated groups compared to the control, supporting the results obtained in the auto-aggregation and cell-surface hydrophobicity test. This work's results have provided thought-provoking targets; thus, studies involving extensive genome sequencing and functional annotation analysis will be explored to offer unfathomable insights into their mechanisms of action and potential health benefits, further establishing the four Bacillus strains' (PGSAK01, PGSAK05, PGSAK17, and PGSAK19) potential role in probiotic fields and functional foods.

Cobalt-free, high-nickel cathode materials are essential for the sustainable evolution of energy storage technologies, reducing the dependence on resources with significant environmental and social implications and simultaneously improving the efficiency and cost effectiveness of batteries. This paper introduces a cobalt-free, high-nickel cathode material called 0.01B-LiNi0.98Mg0.01Zr0.01O2 (NMZB) developed using a novel blend of elements to enhance mechanical and surface chemical stability. Detailed evaluations confirmed the successful integration of Mg, Zr, and B into the particles, with Mg and Zr primarily located within the particle interior and B predominantly on the surface. This unique elemental configuration significantly improves the stability of the bulk phase and surface structure of the material. In addition, the refinement of primary particles within NMZB further enhances its mechanical stability. As a result, NMZB exhibits exceptional electrochemical stability, achieving 90.5 % capacity retention after 200 cycles at a 1C rate. This compositional strategy incorporates a high nickel content into layered materials while eliminating cobalt, which is crucial for advancing the development of cost effective and high-performance lithium-ion battery technology.

Aromatic monomers obtained by selective depolymerization of the lignin ß-O-4 motif are typically phenolic and contain (oxygenated) alkyl substitutions. This work reveals the potential of a one-pot catalytic lignin ß-O-4 depolymerization cascade strategy that yields a uniform set of methoxylated aromatics without alkyl side-chains. This cascade consists of selective acceptorless dehydrogenation of the γ-hydroxy group, subsequent retro-aldol reaction cleaving the Cα-Cß bond followed by in situ acceptorless decarbonylation of the formed aldehydes. This three-step cascade reaction, catalyzed by an iridium(I)-BINAP complex, resulted in 75% 1,2-dimethoxybenzene from G-type lignin dimers alongside syngas (CO:H2 ≈ 1.4:1). Applying this method to a synthetic G-type polymer, 11 wt% 1,2-dimethoxybenzene was obtained. This versatile compound can be easily transformed into 3,4-dimethoxyphenol, a valuable precursor for pharmaceutical synthesis, through enzymatic catalytic approach. Moreover, the hydrodeoxygenation potential of 1,2-dimethoxybenzene offers a pathway to produce valuable cyclohexane or benzene derivatives, presenting enticing opportunities for sustainable chemical transformations without the necessity for phenolic mixture upgrading via dealkylation.

A biochar-assisted anaerobic membrane bioreactor (BC-AnMBR) was conducted to evaluate the performance in treating swine wastewater with different organic loading rates (OLR) ranging from 0.38 to 1.13 kg-COD/(m3.d). Results indicated that adding spent coffee grounds biochar (SCG-BC) improved the organic removal efficiency compared to the conventional AnMBR, with an overall COD removal rate of > 95.01%. Meanwhile, methane production of up to 0.22 LCH4/gCOD with an improvement of 45.45% was achieved under a high OLR of 1.13 kg-COD/(m3.d). Furthermore, the transmembrane pressure (TMP) in the BC-AnMBR system was stable at 4.5 kPa, and no irreversible membrane fouling occurred within 125 days. Microbial community analysis revealed that the addition of SCG-BC increased the relative abundance of autotrophic methanogenic archaea, particularly Methanosarcina (from 0.11% to 11.16%) and Methanothrix (from 16.34% to 24.05%). More importantly, Desulfobacterota and Firmicutes phylum with direct interspecific electron transfer (DIET) capabilities were also enriched with autotrophic methanogens. Analysis of the electron transfer pathway showed that the concentration of c-type cytochromes increased by 38.60% in the presence of SCG-BC, and thus facilitated the establishment of DIET and maintained high activity of the electron transfer system even at high OLR. In short, the BC-AnMBR system performs well under various OLR conditions and is stable in the recovery energy system for swine wastewater.

3-Hydroxypropionic Acid (3-HP) is recognized as a high value-added chemical with a broad range of applications. Among the various biosynthetic pathways for 3-HP production, the ß-alanine pathway is particularly noteworthy due to its capacity to generate 3-HP from glucose at a high theoretical titer. In this study, the ß-alanine biosynthesis pathway was introduced and optimized in Corynebacterium glutamicum. By strategically regulating the supply of precursors, we successfully engineered a strain capable of efficiently synthesizing 3-HP through the ß-alanine pathway, utilizing glucose as the substrate. The engineered strain CgP36 produced 47.54 g/L 3-HP at a yield of 0.295 g/g glucose during the fed-batch fermentation in a 5 L fermenter, thereby attaining the highest 3-HP titer obtained from glucose via the ß-alanine pathway.

People living with HIV (PWH) often experience an increased vulnerability to psychiatric disorders as a result of social stigma and discrimination. This study utilized latent profile analysis on a sample of 3040 Chinese PWH to identify distinct psychological profiles. Furthermore, the study investigated the relationships between these profiles with interpersonal personalities, demographic characteristics, social variables and disease-related variables using a three-step regression (R3STEP). The findings from the latent profile analysis revealed that the psychological symptoms of PWH can be categorized into three distinct classes. Multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that interpersonal personalities, region, sex, age, religious beliefs, marital status, occupation, monthly income, time of HIV infection diagnosis and transmission route were significant factors associated with the psychological profiles of PWH. These findings provide valuable insights for the development of individualized management strategies for PWH and contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying psychological symptoms of PWH.

INTRODUCTION: CD24 is a highly glycosylated glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchored membrane protein that plays an important role in tumor progression. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of abnormal expression of CD24 on the proliferation, migration and invasion of breast cancer (BC) cells, and the molecular mechanism of regulating CD24 expression in breast cancer. METHODOLOGY: The bioinformatics method was used to predict the expression level of CD24 in BC and its relationship with the occurrence and development of BC. IHC, RT-qPCR and WB were used to detect the expression of CD24 in BC tissues and cells. The proliferation of CD24 was evaluated by CCK-8 and colony formation assay, and the migration and invasion of CD24 were evaluated by wound healing and transwell. In addition, the effect of CD24 on the malignancy of BC in vivo was further evaluated by subcutaneous tumorigenesis assay. Molecular mechanisms were measured by luciferase reporter assays, biotin-labeled miRNA pull-down assay, RIP, and western blotting. RESULTS: The results show that CD24 is highly expressed in breast cancer tissues and cell lines, and knockdown of CD24 in vivo and in vitro can inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion of BC cells. Mechanistically, the transcription factor ZNF460 promotes its expression by binding to the CD24 promoter, and the expression of ZNF460 is regulated by miR-125a-5p, which inhibits its expression by targeting the 3'UTR of ZNF460. In addition, LINC00525 acts as a ceRNA sponge to adsorb miR-125a-5p and regulate its expression. CONCLUSIONS: Overexpression of CD24 is involved in the development and poor prognosis of BC, which can be used as a potential target for the treatment of BC and provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of BC.

Small RNAs (sRNAs) are important non-coding RNA regulators that play key roles in the development and pathogenesis of plant pathogens, as well as in other biological processes. However, whether these abundant and varying sRNAs are involved in Phytophthora development or infection remains enigmatic. In this study, sRNA sequencing of 4 asexual stages of Phytophthora capsici (P. capsici), namely, as mycelia (HY), sporangia (SP), zoospores (ZO), cysts (CY), and pepper infected with P. capsici (IN), were performed, followed by sRNA analysis, microRNA (miRNA) identification, and miRNA target prediction. sRNAs were mainly distributed at 25-26 nt in HY, SP, and ZO but distributed at 18-34 nt in CY and IN. 92, 42, 176, 39, and 148 known miRNAs and 15, 19, 54, 13, and 1 novel miRNA were identified in HY, SP, ZO, CY, and IN, respectively. It was found that the expression profiles of known miRNAs vary greatly at different stages and could be divided into 4 categories. Novel miRNAs mostly belong to part I. Gene ontology (GO) analysis of known miRNA-targeting genes showed that they are involved in the catalytic activity pathway, binding function, and other biological processes. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genome (KEGG) analysis of novel miRNA-targeting genes showed that they are involved in the lysine degradation pathway. The expression of candidate miRNAs was validated using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and miRNAs were downregulated in PcDCL1 or PcAGO1 mutants. To further explore the function of the detected miRNAs, the precursor of a novel miRNA, miR91, was knockout by CRISPR-Cas9, the mutants displayed decreased mycelial growth, sporangia production, and zoospore production. It was found that 503142 (Inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase and related proteins) can be predicted as a target of miR91, and the interaction between miR91 and 503142 was verified using the tobacco transient expression system. Overall, our results indicate that the diverse and differentially expressed sRNAs are involved in the development and pathogenesis of P. capsici.

Background: Given the growing population of older adults globally, e-Health plays an indispensable role in the chronic disease management of multimorbidity. However, qualitative evidence that synthesizes the experiences of older adults with multimorbidity using e-Health service is currently lacking. The objective was to explore the experiences and perceptions of e-Health care in community-based settings among the older adults with multimorbidity. Methods: Seven electronic databases including PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese BioMedical Literature were searched, and the search was limited to studies from inception to September 1, 2023. Screening, data extraction, and quality appraisal were conducted independently by two reviewers. Thomas and Harden's thematic synthesis methodology was applied to synthesize the original themes. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Qualitative Research, and the confidence of synthesized themes was evaluated by the Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative Research approaches. Results: Ten studies with moderate methodological quality met eligibility criteria and were included finally. Studies were conducted in four countries with 235 participants who were living with multiple chronic conditions. Among the 10 included studies, 37 credible findings were extracted and interpreted into 3 synthesized themes and 12 subthemes: (1) advantages and benefits perceived during e-Health service, (2) multidimensional challenges and negative experience posed by e-Health service, and (3) preferences, suggestions, and expectations for future e-Health improvement. The confidence in the majority of the three final synthesized themes was rated between "low" and "moderate" scales. Conclusions: The findings of this study provide new insights into implementing tailored e-Health care for older adults with multimorbidity. Further research should emphasize on realizing the potential value of e-Health service based on users' needs and perspectives to promote age-friendliness in geriatric practice.

Efficient thrombolysis in time is crucial for prognostic improvement of patients with acute arterial thromboembolic disease, while limitations and complications still exist in conventional thrombolytic treatment methods. Herein, our study sought to investigate a novel dual-mode strategy that integrated ultrasound (US) and near-infrared light (NIR) with establishment of hollow mesoporous silica nanoprobe (HMSN) which contains Arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD) peptide (thrombus targeting), perfluoropentane (PFP) (thrombolysis with phase-change and stable cavitation) and indocyanine green (ICG) (thrombolysis with photothermal conversion). HMSN is used as the carrier, the surface is coupled with targeted RGD to achieve high targeting and permeability of thrombus, PFP and ICG are loaded to achieve the collaborative diagnosis and treatment of thrombus by US and NIR, so as to provide a new strategy for the integration of diagnosis and treatment of arterial thrombus. From the in vitro and in vivo evaluation, RGD/ICG/PFP@HMSN can aggregate and penetrate at the site of thrombus, and finally establish the dual-mode directional development and thrombolytic treatment under the synergistic effect of US and NIR, providing strong technical support for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of arterial thrombosis.

RESUMEN

Radiotherapy is a preferred treatment for brain metastases, which kills cancer cells via high doses of radiation meanwhile hardly avoiding damage to surrounding healthy cells. Therefore, the delineation of organs-at-risk (OARs) is vital in treatment planning to minimize radiation-induced toxicity. However, the following aspects make OAR delineation a challenging task: extremely imbalanced organ sizes, ambiguous boundaries, and complex anatomical structures. To alleviate these challenges, we imitate how specialized clinicians delineate OARs and present a novel cascaded multi-OAR segmentation framework, called OAR-SegNet. OAR-SegNet comprises two distinct levels of segmentation networks: an Anatomical-Prior-Guided network (APG-Net) and a Point-Cloud-Guided network (PCG-Net). Specifically, APG-Net handles segmentation for all organs, where multi-view segmentation modules and a deep prior loss are designed under the guidance of prior knowledge. After APG-Net, PCG-Net refines small organs through the mini-segmentation and the point-cloud alignment heads. The mini-segmentation head is further equipped with the deep prior feature. Extensive experiments were conducted to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method compared to other state-of-the-art medical segmentation methods.

AIMS: To compare the effectiveness of different types of eHealth interventions in improving exercise endurance and quality of life in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. BACKGROUND: COPD is a chronic airway disease characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. eHealth interventions have been accepted and recognized by healthcare professionals and COPD patients as an effective alternative to pulmonary rehabilitation. However, it is not clear which eHealth interventions are effective and preferred for exercise endurance and quality of life in COPD patients. DESIGN: A systematic review and network meta-analysis based on PRISMA-NMA. METHODS: We searched nine electronic databases to identify randomized controlled trials addressing the effect of eHealth interventions on the exercise endurance and quality of life of COPD patients from their inception to 30 October 2022. First, a random-effects model was chosen to conduct a traditional meta-analysis to directly investigate the efficacy of different eHealth interventions. Next, a network meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relative efficacy of the eHealth interventions for COPD. The quality of the data was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. RESULTS: Fifty-one studies containing six eHealth interventions (telemonitoring, application [APP], web-based interventions, phone calls, virtual reality and combined interventions [≥two types]) were included in the final analysis. Network meta-analysis showed that telemonitoring, APP, web-based interventions and combined interventions improved exercise endurance in COPD patients, with telemonitoring being the most effective. Web-based interventions and apps are effective in improving the quality of life, and web-based interventions are the most effective. CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms that eHealth interventions can improve exercise endurance and quality of life in COPD patients. In the future, healthcare professionals can promote the use of telemedicine in COPD patients to enhance their exercise endurance and quality of life according to their individual needs. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This evidence suggests that eHealth interventions can improve exercise endurance and quality of life in COPD patients. Therefore, in the future, eHealth interventions could be used to maximize their effectiveness in improving exercise endurance and quality of life in COPD patients.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to examine and evaluate the existing clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements regarding tracheostomy care for non-mechanically ventilated patients. METHODS: A systematic search of databases, and professional organisations was conducted from inception to 19 March 2023. Two appraisers evaluated each guideline using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation II (AGREE II) and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Text and Opinion Papers. RESULTS: No specific clinical guidelines exist on airway management in non-mechanically ventilated patients. Of 6318 articles identified, we included 12 clinical practice guidelines, and 9 consensus statements, which were from China, the US, the UK, South Korea, Australia, France and Belgium. The AGREE II scores in six domains are (1) the scope and purpose, 70.30%; (2) stakeholder involvement, 37.61%; (3) rigor of development, 33.97%; (4) clarity of presentation, 68.16%; (5) applicability, 44.23% and (6) editorial independence, 40.06%. The overall quality of evidence was level B. The summarised recommendations for clinical practice encompass the following six areas: airway humidification, management of the trach cuff, management of inner cannula, tracheostoma care, tracheostomy suctioning and management and prevention of common post-operative complications. CONCLUSIONS: The overall quality of the clinical guidelines on non-ventilated tracheostomy care was moderate, and further improvements are needed in domains of stakeholder involvement, applicability, clarity of presentation and editorial independence. Recommendations on non-ventilated tracheostomy care are often embedded in the guidelines on ventilated tracheostomy. Specific clinical guidelines are needed to provide a standardised approach to tracheostomy care for non-ventilated patients. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Patients with non-ventilated tracheostomy need specialised airway management. Improving patient outcomes requires standardised protocols, patient involvement, quality evaluation, and interdisciplinary approaches. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: The study reviewed clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements, therefore patient or public input was not needed.

Adsorption and activation of C-H bonds by photocatalysts are crucial for the efficient conversion of C-H bonds to produce high-value chemicals. Nevertheless, the delivery of surface-active oxygen species for C-H bond oxygenation inevitably needs to overcome obstacles due to the separated active centers, which suppresses the catalytic efficiency. Herein, Ni dopants are introduced into a monolayer Bi2WO6 to create cascaded active units consisting of unsaturated W atoms and Bi/O frustrated Lewis pairs. Experimental characterizations and density functional theory calculations reveal that these special sites can establish an efficient and controllable C-H bond oxidation process. The activated oxygen species on unsaturated W are readily transferred to the Bi/O sites for C-H bond oxygenation. The catalyst with a Ni mass fraction of 1.8% exhibits excellent toluene conversion rates and high selectivity towards benzaldehyde. This study presents a fascinating strategy for toluene oxidation through the design of efficient cascaded active units.
