RESUMEN

Scratches on optical components induce laser damage and limit the increase in laser power. Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) is a highly deterministic optical manufacturing technology that can improve the surface roughness of optical components. Although MRF has exhibited significant potential for reducing subsurface damage and removing scratches, the principle and mechanism behind the scratch removal are not sufficiently understood. In this study, the theory of fluid mechanics is used to analyze the pressure, velocity, and particle trajectory distribution near a scratch. A physical model was developed for the differential removal of scratches at the bottom and surface of the optical components. The morphological evolution of the scratch was predicted during removal, and detailed experiments were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. The results indicate that scratches expand laterally rather than being completely removed. Furthermore, scratch removal efficiency is greater when the removal direction is perpendicular to the scratch rather than being parallel. This study offers an intrinsic perspective for a comprehensive understanding of the MRF technique used for scratch removal, which can be beneficial for removing scratches from aspherical optical systems.

RESUMEN

The diffraction efficiency, defined as the ratio of diffracted power to incident power, is one of the key working indicators for a computer-generated hologram (CGH). The CGH with high diffraction efficiency could suppress stray light and eliminate ghost images, thus improving interferometric performance in aspherical testing of low-reflectivity or large off-axis distance surfaces. However, the high-efficiency CGH is hard to precisely fabricate by traditional reactive ion etching and focusing ion beam, because it requires high etching depth with a high uniformity and sub-nanometric roughness in the glass, especially in the fabrication of a large CGH with an aperture of up to 300 mm. In this study, fabrication of the above-mentioned CGH was demonstrated via what we believe to be a new method called scanning homogenization etching (SHE), in which the ion source with a Gaussian energy distribution accurately scans the glass surface to realize homogenization etching. Different from controlling dwell time at each etching point, this paper proposes to control the scanning rate to achieve not only uniform but also quantitative depth removal in a single scan. Moreover, the depth errors in deep etching across the whole glass surface can be remarkably reduced due to homogenization effects introduced by multiple scanning etching. Finally, the target etching depth of 692.3 nm with an etching uniformity of 2.2% in the etching of a 300 mm CGH was achieved. The roughness of the etched and unetched area both have Ra values of 0.3 nm. The diffraction efficiency of working order is 39.998%, achieving 98.6% of the theoretical diffraction efficiency. In addition, the SHE is not limited by the aperture of the ion source, so it can achieve even larger diffractive optical elements with high diffraction efficiency and high accuracy.

RESUMEN

Silk fibroin (SF) is a structural protein derived from natural silkworm silks. Materials fabricated based on SF usually inherit extraordinary physical and biological properties, including high mechanical strength, toughness, optical transparency, tailorable biodegradability, and biocompatibility. Therefore, SF has attracted interest in the development of sustainable biodevices, especially for emergent bio-electronic technologies. To expand the function of current silk devices, the SF characteristic sequence has been used to synthesize recombinant silk proteins that benefit from SF and other functional peptides, such as stimuli-responsive elastin peptides. In addition to genetic engineering methods, innovated chemistry modification approaches and improved material processing techniques have also been developed for fabricating advanced silk materials with tailored chemical features and nanostructures. Herein, this review summarizes various methods to synthesize functional silk-based materials from different perspectives. This review also highlights the recent advances in the applications of natural and recombinant silks in tissue regeneration, soft robotics, and biosensors, using B. mori SF and silk-elastin-like proteins (SELPs) as examples.

RESUMEN

Naotaifang extract (NTE) is a clinically effective traditional Chinese medicine compound for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. Although NTE can achieve neuroprotective function through different mechanisms, the pharmacodynamic substances of NTE corresponding to these mechanisms have rarely been reported. Alleviating or inhibiting neuronal apoptosis is an important way to achieve neuroprotection. Accordingly, this study has evaluated the effects of NTE on alleviating neuronal apoptosis after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury from two levels of cells and tissues. Meanwhile, the serum pharmacochemistry of NTE was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) with the guidance of Chinmedomics. The results included three aspects: (1) NTE could significantly alleviate neuronal apoptosis caused by in vitro cellular models and in vivo animal models; (2) a total of 21 serum differential metabolites was discovered, including adenosine, inosine, ferulic acid, calycosin, salidroside, 6-gingerol, 2-methoxycinnamaldehyde, and so on; (3) the metabolic pathway regulated by NTE was mainly purine metabolism. From these results, it can be concluded that alleviating neuronal apoptosis by NTE after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury is one of the important mechanisms to achieve neuroprotection. The pharmacodynamic substances of NTE for alleviating neuronal apoptosis on the one hand are related to components directly absorbed into blood, such as ferulic acid, calycosin, salidroside, 6-gingerol, and 2-methoxycinnamaldehyde and on the other hand are also closely linked to its indirect regulation of purine metabolism in the body to produce adenosine and inosine. Therefore, our research not only identified the main pharmacodynamic substances of NTE that alleviated neuronal apoptosis but also provided a methodological reference for studying other neuroprotective effects of NTE.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the operative method and its clinical effects of pronation and supination external rotation trimalleolar fractures. METHODS: From March 2000 to July 2006,42 patients of the pronation and supination external rotation trimalleolar fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation. Thirty-one were males and 11 were females, with an average age of 40.5 years (from 19 to 76 years). Four cases were open fractures and 38 cases close fractures. The fractures were classified as pronation-external rotation (grade IV) injury in 18 cases and supination-external rotation (grade IV)in 24 cases according to the system of Lauge-Hansen. The time of injury to operation was 2 hours to 27 days. The medial, lateral and posterior malleolus were exposed by standard anteromedial and Gatellier-Chastang approaches. The reduction and internal fixation started with the posterior, then the medial and the lateral malleolus and distal tibiofibular syndesmosis in sequence. The anteroposterior, lateral and mostise X-ray films were taken after operation. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up for an average time of 13.5 months(from 6 to 24 months). The time of union was from 12 to 16 weeks. The results were excellent in 20,good in 16, fair in 4 and poor in 2 cases according to Baird-Jackson ankle scoring system based on pain, stability, walking ability, range of motion and radiological manifestations. The excellent and good rate was 85.7%. There were no infection, malunion and nonunion of the fractures except that the inserted screw to distal tibiofibular syndesmosis was broken in 1 case. CONCLUSION: The key of operative treatment is to restore the anatomy of ankle and to regain the ankle function maximally.
