RESUMEN

Salinity affects over 33% of irrigated farmland globally. Developing a low-cost, safe, and effective material as a soil salinity mitigation option would be of significant importance. This study proposed to synthesize a hydrogel using liquefied biomass from sugarcane bagasse, polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium tetraborate decahydrate. The effectiveness of the produced hydrogel in mitigating soil salinity was evaluated based on an incubation experiment at two salinity levels (5 and 10 dS m-1). The experiment was conducted by mixing liquefied hydrogel with soil at four application rates (0, 1, 2, and 3% w/w) with three replications. Porewater and soil samples were tested for pH and electrical conductivity (EC). Soil samples were also analyzed for selected cations and anions. The results demonstrated that hydrogel significantly reduced porewater EC at both 5 and 10 dS m-1 salt solutions. In addition, hydrogel reduced Cl-, P, Ca2+, and Al3+ concentrations in soil samples with maximum reductions observed from 3% hydrogel treatment. However, pH of porewater showed a consistent increase with hydrogel application. The application of hydrogel also increased NH4-N at high salt level. Overall, hydrogel has shown promising results in reducing soil salinity and could potentially be used as a soil amendment for saline soils.

RESUMEN

Objective To observe the effect of Wenxiao Decoction in treating the patients with carotid atherosclerostic (CAS) plaque and assess the safety. Methods Sixty patients with CAS plaque were randomly allocated to treatment group (33 cases) and control group (27 cases). The control group was given routine therapy, and the treatment group was given Wenxiao Decoction additionally. And they were further divided into half-year treatment group and half-year control group, 1-year treatment group and 1-year control group. Carotid artery color Doppler ultrasound and hepatorenal function were examined before and after treatment. Results Compared with the control groups after therapy, the average numbers of plaques, maximal plaque thickness, Crouse plaque integral were decreased both in 1-year and half-year treatment groups (P0.05). Conclusion Wenxiao Decoction is effective and safe in treatment of CAS plaque, and plaque stability is more obvious with the extension of treatment time.

RESUMEN

Even in secular societies, a small portion of patients find their spirituality to help cope with illness. But for the majority of patients, psychosocial and spiritual needs are neither addressed nor even considered a relevant factor by health care professionals. To measure such specific needs, the Spiritual Needs Questionnaire (SpNQ) was developed. The aim of this study was to validate the Chinese version of the SpNQ (SpNQ-Ch) and thus to measure psychosocial and spiritual needs of Chinese patients.

RESUMEN

objective: To evaluate the effects of the pendulum appliance on arch length, arch width, overbite and overjet. Methods: Pendulum appliances were applied for distalization of maxillary molars in 37 patients whith class Ⅱ malocclusion and 1-Ⅱ degree crowded dentition in upper dental arch. Pretreatment and posttreatment model analysis was conducted. Results: 37 patients treated for 18.2?4.5 weeks with pendulum appliance were accomplished . The increase of arch arc length between the maxillary first molars was (17.36?4.38) mm, the decrease of anterior arch width (-3.04?1.59) mm, and the decrease of posterior arch width (-1.29?2.01) mm . Differences between the pretreatment and posttreatment were significant, including arch arc length between the maxillary first molars ( P

RESUMEN

Objective:To evaluate effects of traction arch combined with protraction on dental and skeletal changes in patients with Angel Ⅲ malocclusion in mixed dentition. Methods:Seventeen patients with Angle Ⅲ malocclusion were selected and treated with traction arch combined with protraction. Cephalometric radiographs were taken 6 months before the initiation of treatment, at the initiation of treatment and 6 months after treatment.Cephalometric analysis was used to examine the dental and skeletal changes. Results:Significant changes of maxillary anterior displacement and mandibular downward and backward rotation were observed in the seventeen patients:SNA increased 2.6?,A point moved forward 3.1 mm. The overjet correction of anterior teeth was 5.2 mm, 63% of the overjet correction was due to skeletal changes and 37% due to dental changes. Conclusion:Traction arch combined with protraction is a simple and effective apparatus in the treatment of Angle Ⅲ malocclusion.
