RESUMEN

In this study, we investigate gynogenetic reproduction in Pengze Crucian Carp (Carassius auratus var. pengsenensis) using third-generation Nanopore sequencing to uncover structural variations (SVs) in offspring. Our objective was to understand the role of male genetic material in gynogenesis by examining the genomes of both parents and their offspring. We discovered a notable number of male-specific structural variations (MSSVs): 1,195 to 1,709 MSSVs in homologous offspring, accounting for approximately 0.52%-0.60% of their detected SVs, and 236 to 350 MSSVs in heterologous offspring, making up about 0.10%-0.13%. These results highlight the significant influence of male genetic material on the genetic composition of offspring, particularly in homologous pairs, challenging the traditional view of asexual reproduction. The gene annotation of MSSVs revealed their presence in critical gene regions, indicating potential functional impacts. Specifically, we found 5 MSSVs in the exonic regions of protein-coding genes in homologous offspring, suggesting possible direct effects on protein structure and function. Validation of an MSSV in the exonic region of the polyunsaturated fatty acid 5-lipoxygenase gene confirmed male genetic material transmission in some offspring. This study underscores the importance of further research on the genetic diversity and gynogenesis mechanisms, providing valuable insights for reproductive biology, aquaculture, and fostering innovation in biological research and aquaculture practices.

RESUMEN

In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, this study focuses on Chinese university students, employing graphic elicitation as a qualitative research method to analyze their hand-drawn paintings and related descriptions. Augmented by A/r/tography and metacognitive methods, the research aims to unveil the participants' collective memory, as well as the perspectives and responses of these students to policies related to the pandemic. By specifically examining this particular demographic, the study incorporates Fairclough's ethical theory, applying deontological ethics, consequentialist ethics, and virtue ethics to establish a comprehensive framework for evaluating adjustments to pandemic response policies. This research not only enhances our understanding of how these university students perceive and adapt to COVID-19 policies but also provides valuable insights for decision-makers. The particular methodology, combining graphic elicitation and metacognitive research, contributes to policy assessment and ethical analysis, offering a nuanced perspective on the interplay between individual perceptions, policy responses, and ethical considerations amid the complexities of a public health crisis.

RESUMEN

Mucosal bile acid (BA) profile is still unestablished in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). The aim of this study was to explore colonic mucosal BAs and their associations with mucosal mast cell (MMC)-derived nerve growth factor (NGF) and bowel symptoms in IBS-D. Colonic mucosal biopsies from 36 IBS-D patients and 35 healthy controls (HCs) were obtained for targeted BA profiling. MMC count and the expression of NGF and tight junction proteins (TJPs) were examined. We found that colonic mucosal BA profile was altered in the IBS-D cohort. The proportion of primary BAs was significantly higher and that of secondary BAs was lower in IBS-D patients. According to the 90th percentile of total mucosal BA content of HCs, IBS-D patients were divided into BA-H (n = 7, 19.4%) and BA-L (n = 29, 80.6%) subgroups. BA-H patients showed significantly higher total mucosal BA content compared to BA-L subgroup and HCs. The mucosal content of 11 BA metabolites significantly increased in BA-H subgroup, e.g. cholic acid (CA) and taurocholic acid (TCA). Moreover, BA-H patients displayed significantly elevated MMC count and NGF expression, with decreased expression of TJPs (claudin-1, junctional adhesion molecule-A and zonula occludens-1). Correlation analyses revealed that mucosal TCA content positively correlated with MMC count, MMC-derived NGF levels, and abdominal pain while negatively correlated with TJP expression. In conclusion, IBS-D patients showed an altered BA profile in the colonic mucosa. Approximately 20% of them exhibit elevated mucosal BA content, which may be associated with MMC-derived NGF signaling and bowel symptoms.

RESUMEN

Foodborne contaminants refer to substances that are present in food and threaten food safety. Due to the progress in detection technology and the rising concerns regarding public health, there has been a surge in research focusing on the dangers posed by foodborne contaminants. These studies aim to explore and implement strategies that are both safe and efficient in mitigating the associated risks. Anthocyanins, a class of flavonoids, are abundantly present in various plant species, such as blueberries, grapes, purple sweet potatoes, cherries, mulberries, and others. Numerous epidemiological and nutritional intervention studies have provided evidence indicating that the consumption of anthocyanins through dietary intake offers a range of protective effects against the detrimental impact of foodborne contaminants. The present study aims to differentiate between two distinct subclasses of foodborne contaminants: those that are generated during the processing of food and those that originate from the surrounding environment. Furthermore, the impact of anthocyanins on foodborne contaminants was also summarized based on a review of articles published within the last 10 years. However, further investigation is warranted regarding the mechanism by which anthocyanins target foodborne contaminants, as well as the potential impact of individual variations in response. Additionally, it is important to note that there is currently a dearth of clinical research examining the efficacy of anthocyanins as an intervention for mitigating the effects of foodborne pollutants. Thus, by exploring the detoxification effect and mechanism of anthocyanins on foodborne pollutants, this review thereby provides evidence, supporting the utilization of anthocyanin-rich diets as a means to mitigate the detrimental effects of foodborne contaminants.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The mucosa-associated microbiota (MAM) is not as frequently studied in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) compared with the fecal microbiota. In this study, we examined the MAM in the terminal ileum and its correlation with bowel symptoms in IBS-D. METHODS: Mucosal biopsies of the terminal ileum from 25 patients with IBS-D and 25 healthy controls were collected for 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. Correlation analysis was performed. RESULTS: Compared with healthy controls, the MAM in the terminal ileum showed a decreased alpha diversity in the IBS-D cohort (Chao1 and Shannon indexes, P < 0.05). And the overall MAM profile clustered separately into 2 groups (ADONIS [PERMANOVA, permutational multivariate analysis of variance], P < 0.05). At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria was significantly higher in the ileal MAM of patients with IBS-D while that of Firmicutes was significantly lower. At the genus level, the relative abundance of Pseudomonas was significantly higher in the IBS-D cohort, with lower Bacteroides and Ruminococcus . Moreover, 40.0% of patients with IBS-D had multiple small nodules (nodular lymphoid hyperplasia) on the mucosal surface of the terminal ileum, which indicated a low-grade inflammation. In patients with IBS-D with nodular lymphoid hyperplasia, the changes of Pseudomonas and Bacteroides were more overt. Correlation analysis revealed that the relative abundance of Pseudomonas positively correlated with abdominal pain and the severity of IBS. DISCUSSION: Patients with IBS-D showed a dysbiosis of MAM in the terminal ileum, which may be associated with bowel symptoms. Moreover, 40.0% of them displayed mucosal low-grade inflammation, with a more severe mucosal microbial disturbance.

RESUMEN

Background: Cerebral stroke (CS) remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide. In addition to effective treatment, nursing intervention plays a pivotal role in the rehabilitation of CS patients. Objective: This study aims to assess the impact of meticulous care integrated with risk management on rehabilitating cerebral stroke patients. The objective is to provide valuable clinical insights for the management of CS patients. Methods: A comparative observational study was conducted, including a total of 180 CS patients admitted between February 2020 and February 2022 were selected for this study. Among them, 98 patients received meticulous care combined with risk management (research group), while 82 patients underwent routine nursing intervention (control group). We analyzed the changes in the Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment scale, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale, Activities of Daily Living scale, and Barthel Index before and after the care interventions. Additionally, we documented nursing risk events during treatment, assessed nursing quality scores, and conducted a quality-of-life survey after a one-year follow-up. Results: The research group exhibited significantly higher post-care scores in the Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment, Activities of Daily Living, and Barthel Index, along with lower National Institute of Health Stroke Scale scores, compared to the control group (P < .05). Furthermore, the research group experienced a lower incidence of nursing risk events and demonstrated higher nursing quality (P < .05). During the prognostic follow-up, the research group displayed a superior quality of life compared to the control group (P < .05). Conclusions: Meticulous care integrated with risk management enhances the recovery of CS patients and is strongly recommended for clinical implementation.

RESUMEN

Background/Aims: Stigma related with antidepressants is prevalent in patients with functional dyspepsia. It affects medication compliance and efficacy. Herbal medicine acquired a deep-rooted cultural identity in relieving dyspeptic symptoms in Asians. The research was designed to compare the effectiveness of Zhizhu Kuanzhong capsules (ZZKZ) versus doxepin hydrochloride (doxepin) on alleviating stigma and medication nonadherence among patients with refractory FD (rFD). Methods: Patients with rFD from February 2021 to February 2022 were randomly allocated to receive either doxepin (n = 56) or ZZKZ (n = 57) combined with omeprazole for 4 weeks. Medication possession ratio (MPR), the disease- and medication-associated stigma were analyzed. The scales were utilized to assess dyspeptic symptoms (Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire) and psychological conditions (Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire and Patient Health Questionnaire). Results: The MPR values for ZZKZ were significantly higher than those for doxepin (P < 0.001). The stigma scores decreased in ZZKZ group while increased in doxepin group compared to baseline after treatment. The proportion of patients showing ZZKZ-associated stigma was significantly lower than doxepin-associated stigma (P < 0.001). The MPR values were negatively correlated with post-treatment stigma scores in both groups (P < 0.001). Dyspeptic symptoms and psychological condition were improved in both groups after treatment, with no significant difference on post-treatment Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire, or Patient Health Questionnaire scores between 2 groups. Conclusion: ZZKZ is superior to doxepin in alleviating stigma and medication non-adherence, with comparable efficacy in improving dyspeptic symptoms and psychological condition of patients with rFD.

RESUMEN

Ribosomes are the vital molecular machine for protein translation in a cell. Defects in several nucleolar proteins have been observed in human ribosomopathies. In zebrafish, a deficiency in these ribosomal proteins often results in an anemic phenotype. It remains to be determined whether any other ribosome proteins are involved in regulating erythropoiesis. Here, we generated a nucleolar protein 56 (nop56)-/- zebrafish model and investigated its function. A nop56 deficiency induced severe morphological abnormalities and anemia. WISH analysis showed that the specification of the erythroid lineage in definitive hematopoiesis and the maturation of erythroid cells were impaired in the nop56 mutants. Additionally, transcriptome analysis revealed that the p53 signaling pathway was abnormally activated, and the injection of a p53 morpholino partially rescued the malformation, but not the anemia. Moreover, qPCR analysis showed that the JAK2-STAT3 signaling pathway was activated in the mutants, and the inhibition of JAK2 partially rescued the anemic phenotype. This study suggests that nop56 is a potential target for investigation in erythropoietic disorders, particularly those that may be associated with JAK-STAT activation.

RESUMEN

Background and objective: Long-course (LC) antidepressants for the treatment of disorders of gut-brain interaction, such as refractory functional dyspepsia (rFD), pose patients at risk of antidepressant discontinuation syndrome (ADS). Short-course (SC) therapy of rapid-acting antidepressant may reduce discontinuation syndromes while maintaining efficacy for dyspeptic symptoms. However, the evidence-based research is lacking. This study aims to determine whether SC therapy with antidepressants could decrease the risk of ADS with comparable treatment efficacy to LC therapy in rFD. Methods: This randomized clinical trial with rFD patients was conducted at a tertiary hospital in China. Participants (N = 240) were randomly allocated to receive flupentixol-melitracen (FM) plus omeprazole therapy for 2 (SC group) or 4 (LC group) weeks, respectively. Scores for Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire (LDQ), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 for Depression (PHQ-9) were assessed at baseline and every 2 weeks, ending at 4 weeks after treatment. ADS was assessed after drug cessation. Medication possession ratio (MPR) for FM was calculated. Results: The severity and incidence of ADS of patients in SC group were significantly lower than those in LC group (0.60 ± 0.62 vs. 1.71 ± 1.58 and 3.64 vs. 39.45%; both P < 0.0001). The MPR values for FM were significantly higher in patients of SC group than in LC group (P < 0.0001). Scores for LDQ, GAD-7 and PHQ-9 decreased in patients of both groups, and the symptom improvement in SC group was comparable to that in LC group after treatment. Conclusions: Compared to 4-week FM therapy, the 2-week FM therapy reduces the risk of ADS with non-inferior treatment efficacy in patients with rFD. RESUMEN

Variations in telomere length (TL) have been associated with aging, stress, and many diseases. Placenta TL is an essential molecular component influencing the outcome of birth. Previous investigations into the relationship between placenta TL and preeclampsia (PE) have produced conflicting findings. We conducted a retrospective case-control analysis in this study to address the disparity. We used placenta samples from 224 births received from Hawaii Biorepository (HiBR) between 2006 and 2013, comprising 129 healthy full-term controls and 95 severe PE samples. The average absolute placental TL was calculated using the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technique. We utilized multiple linear regressions to associate placental TL with severe PE and other demographic, clinical and physiological data. The outcome demonstrates that the placental TL of severe PE cases did not significantly differ from that of healthy controls. Instead, there is a strong correlation between gestational age and placenta TL shortening. Placental TL also exhibits racial differences: (1) Latino moms' TL is significantly longer than non-Latino mothers' (p=0.009). (2) Caucasian patients with severe PE have shorter TL than non-Caucasian patients (p=0.0037). This work puts the long-standing question of whether severe PE influences placental TL to rest. Placental TL is not related to severe PE but is negatively associated with gestational age and is also affected by race.

RESUMEN

Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli O157:H7 are common causes of foodborne illness worldwide. Ohelo berry (Vaccinium calycinum) juice was found to possess inhibitory activity against L. monocytogenes. This study aimed to determine which constituents of ohelo berry have the most potent antimicrobial effects. The crude extract of ohelo berry was separated into sugar plus organic acids (F1), non-anthocyanin phenolics (F2), and anthocyanins (F3). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the fractions were determined against L. monocytogenes and E. coli O157:H7. The results demonstrated that F3 contained the highest concentrations of total phenolics and anthocyanins. All fractions caused a significant growth reduction in two bacteria compared to controls. F1 at native pH had the same MIC (1.39/0.36 Bx/acid) and MBC (5.55/1.06 Bx/acid) against the two bacteria, while neutralized F1 did not inhibit the growth of either pathogen. The MIC of F3 against L. monocytogenes was 13.69 mg/L cyanidin-3-glucoside equivalent, which was not affected by neutralization. Besides, L. monocytogenes was more sensitive than E. coli O157:H7 to all fractions. These findings suggest that both phenolics and organic acids contribute to the antimicrobial properties of ohelo berry, which have the potential to be used as natural food preservatives.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sepsis is a very serious complication of cesarean section, understanding the influencing factors is important to the prevention and management of sepsis. We aimed to analyze the associated risk factors of sepsis of cesarean section, to provide evidences into the clinical management and nursing care of cesarean section. METHODS: Patients who underwent cesarean section surgery from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021 in our hospital were included. The characteristics of patients were collected and analyzed. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to analyze the influencing factors of sepsis of cesarean section. RESULTS: A total of 3819 patients undergoing cesarean section were included, the incidence of sepsis in patients undergoing cesarean section was 0.84%. There were significant differences in the age, vaginal delivery attempt, premature rupture of membranes, preoperative hemoglobin, estimated blood loss during surgery and postoperative urinary tube implacement between sepsis and no sepsis patients (all p < 0.05). Logistic regression analyses found that age ≥ 35y(OR3.22, 95%CI1.20 ~ 5.15), gestational diabetes(OR2.64, 95%CI1.91 ~ 4.15), vaginal delivery attempt(OR2.05, 95%CI1.70 ~ 4.42), premature rupture of membranes(OR2.42, 95%CI1.02 ~ 4.20), preoperative hemoglobin ≤ 105 g/L(OR4.39, 95%CI1.02 ~ 7.88), estimated blood loss during surgery ≥ 400 ml(OR1.81, 95%CI1.35 ~ 3.01), postoperative urinary tube implacement(OR2.19, 95%CI1.27 ~ 2.50) were the risk factors of sepsis in patients undergoing cesarean section(all p < 0.05). Escherichia Coli(46.15%), Enterococcus faecalis(17.95%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(12.83%) were the most commonly-seen bacteria in sepsis patients. CONCLUSION: In clinical practice, medical workers should carry out strict management and early prevention of related risk factors during the perioperative period of pregnant women, to effectively reduce the occurrence of sepsis after cesarean section.

RESUMEN

In order to solve the problem of scanning magnetic resonance imaging in prenatal diagnosis, the application and research of placental implantation have been proposed. Placental implantation is a serious obstetric emergency, which refers to the abnormal attachment of placental villi caused by the dysplasia of decidual basal layer. A study from the United States showed that the incidence of placental implantation in pregnant women during delivery increased from 9.9/30000 to 11.6/20000 from 2006 to 2019, which increased the risk of prenatal or postpartum hemorrhage, hysterectomy, stillbirth, abdominal organ injury, and so on. Clinically, patients can show severe prenatal or postpartum hemorrhage, postpartum placental retention, uterine perforation, and secondary infection, which may seriously endanger the lives of pregnant mothers and fetuses. Placental implantation can also have no obvious symptoms before delivery, which leads to insufficient prenatal diagnosis. Gielchinsky retrospectively studied 410 patients with placental implantation and found that only 9 patients were detected by prenatal ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the detection rate was only 6.6%. It can be seen that if the accurate diagnosis of placental implantation can be made before prenatal or symptoms appear, clinical intervention treatment can be carried out in time to reduce the probability of hysterectomy and improve the examination means of patients' prerecovery. At present, studies at home and abroad suggest that it has good clinical application value and research prospect in the clinical diagnosis of placental implantation.

RESUMEN

Traditional culture-based detection methods for Campylobacteri jejuni, a leading cause of human bacterial gastroenteritis worldwide, are time-consuming, cumbersome, and lacking in reliability. While polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been frequently used for pathogen testing, it might generate false-negative results due to inadequate sensitivity. This study was the first to explore novel single-tube nested PCR (STN-PCR) to detect pathogens in food. Two pairs of nested PCR primers were designed based on the hippuricase gene of C. jejuni. The annealing temperatures and concentrations of nested primers were optimized to ensure the sequential use of outer and inner pairs of primers during amplification. Efficacy of the developed STN-PCR assay was compared with standard culture-based methods and conventional PCR in artificially contaminated ground chicken homogenate. Limit of detection of the STN-PCR assay was determined to be 3.6 × 101 CFU/ml of C. jejuni in the homogenate without enrichment, which was 100 times lower than conventional PCR. Moreover, 0.1 CFU/g of C. jejuni in ground chicken homogenate was identified by STN-real time PCR (rtPCR) after 24 h of enrichment, while a 48-h enrichment was required for culture-based methods and conventional rtPCR. This developed assay provides a powerful tool for rapid, highly specific, and ultra-sensitive detection of C. jejuni and may potentially be used to identify contaminated chicken and other foods.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to decolorize azo dyes in high-salt industrial wastewater under high-salt and low oxygen conditions using extreme halophilic/halotolerant bacteria screened from the salt fields of Tibet, which consisted of Enterococcus, unclassified Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus, Bacillus, and Kosakonia. Under the optimal conditions, 600 mg/l Congo red, Direct Black G (DBG), Amaranth, methyl red, and methyl orange could be completely decolorized in 24, 8, 8, 12, and 12 h, respectively. When the DBG concentration was 600 mg/l, NADH-DCIP, laccase, and azo reductase were confirmed to be the primary reductase and oxidase during the degradation process, and the degradation pathways were verified. The microflora could not only tolerate changes in salt concentrations of 0-80 g/l, but also displayed strong degradative ability. Under high-salt concentrations (≥ 60 g/l NaCl), NADH-DCIP reductase was primarily used to decolorize the azo dye. However, under low salt concentrations (≤ 40 g/l NaCl), azo reductase began to function, and manganese peroxidase and lignin peroxidase could cooperate to participate in DBG degradation. Additionally, the halophilic/halophilic microflora was shown to convert the toxic DBG dye to metabolites of low toxicity based on phytotoxicity analysis, and a new mechanism for the microflora to degrade DBG was proposed based on intermediates identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This study revealed that the halophilic/halophilic microflora has effective ecological and industrial value for treating wastewater from the textile industry.

RESUMEN

Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen and causes illnesses with a high mortality rate in susceptible populations. Several dairy-related outbreaks have been attributed to contamination by L. monocytogenes, which requires antimicrobial interventions to enhance the safety of these products. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial activity of the ohelo berry (Vaccinium calycinum), a Hawaiian wild relative of cranberry, against L. monocytogenes in culture media and milk products. The effect of ohelo berry juice at its sub-inhibitory concentrations on the physicochemical properties, biofilm formation, and gene expression of L. monocytogenes was also investigated. The minimum inhibitory concentration of ohelo berry juice against L. monocytogenes was 12.5%. The sub-inhibitory concentration of ohelo berry juice (6.25%) significantly increased the auto-aggregation and decreased the hydrophobicity, swimming motility, swarming motility, and biofilm formation capability of L. monocytogenes. The relative expression of genes for motility (flaA), biofilm formation and disinfectant resistance (sigB), invasion (iap), listeriolysin (hly), and phospholipase (plcA) was significantly downregulated in L. monocytogenes treated by the 6.25% juice. L. monocytogenes was significantly inhibited in whole and skim milk supplemented with 50% ohelo berry juice, regardless of the fat content. These findings highlight the potential of ohelo berry as a natural preservative and functional food to prevent L. monocytogenes infection.

RESUMEN

Internet of things technology began to spread to all industries of our lives; the application of medical internet of things in many hospitals highlighted its advantages and brought a lot of convenience to patients and medical staff. With the continuous progress of China's medical reform and the continuous improvement of patients' requirements for medical service quality, this paper discusses the application of medical internet of things in clinical nursing in ward, and the basic information collection, infusion, and mobile nursing were discussed and studied. Through the parallel control study of the laboratory itself, this paper evaluates whether the two different clinical measurement methods of medical internet of things technology and traditional technology are consistent in body temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood oxygen saturation. At the same time, it also deeply studies the value and advantages of internet of things technology in the application of other monitoring indicators in clinical nursing and analyses the problems in its application. The experimental data show that the two measurement methods with different principles can be completely replaced in clinical application, and the time efficiency of the new clinical nursing method under the medical internet of things technology in mapping body temperature, pulse, and respiration has been improved by 76.20% and 72.02%, respectively, surpassing the traditional information technology and realizing the intelligent, automatic, and standardized data acquisition method. It ensures the authenticity of data and the real-time of information flow and meets the needs of resource sharing and medical regional interconnection.

RESUMEN

The study was aimed at exploring the application value of the CT image based on a filtered back projection (FBP) algorithm in the diagnosis of patients with diabetes complicated with tuberculosis and at analyzing the influence of dietary nursing on patients with diabetes complicated with tuberculosis. In this study, the FBP algorithm was used to optimize CT images to effectively obtain reconstructed ROI images. Then, the deviation from measurement values of reconstructed images at different pixel levels was analyzed. 138 patients with diabetes complicated with tuberculosis were selected as research subjects to compare the number of lung segments involved and the CT imaging manifestations at different fasting glucose levels. All patients were divided into the control group (routine drug treatment) and observation group (diet intervention on the basis of drug treatment) by random number table method, and the effect of different nursing methods on the improvement of patients' clinical symptoms was discussed. The results showed that the distance measurement value decreased with the increase in pixel level, there was no significant difference in the number of lung segments involved in patients with different fasting glucose levels (P > 0.05), and there were statistically significant differences in the incidence of segmental lobar shadow, bronchial air sign, wall-less cavity, thick-walled cavity, pulmonary multiple cavity, and bronchial tuberculosis in patients with different fasting glucose levels (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, 2 h postprandial blood glucose level in the observation group was significantly improved (P < 0.05), there was a statistical significance in the number with reduced pleural effusion and the number with reduced tuberculosis foci in the two groups (P < 0.05), and the level of hemoglobin in the observation group was 7.1 ± 1.26, significantly lower than that in the control group (8.91 ± 2.03, P < 0.05). It suggested that the changes of CT images based on the FBP reconstruction algorithm were correlated with fasting blood glucose level. Personalized diet nursing intervention can improve the clinical symptoms of patients, which provides a reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetes complicated with tuberculosis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Epidural (EPI) catheter analgesia is frequently prescribed as a regional analgesic technique to patients with multiple rib fractures (MRF) following surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF). AIMS: We aimed to study the effect of add-on self-care therapy on recovery and quality of life (QoL) in patients on EPI analgesia after surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF). DESIGN/SETTINGS/PARTICIPANTS/SUBJECTS: A total of 267 eligible patients with MRF who received EPI catheter analgesia after SSRF were recruited, and assigned to one of two groups in a random fashion: intervention group received education on self-care therapy, while the control group did not. METHODS: Pain scores, incentive spirometry (IS) volumes, oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiratory rate, hospital length of stay (LoS) and QoL were evaluated. RESULTS: Compared with control group, the intervention group showed significantly improved pain scores, IS volume, respiratory rate, and SpO2. Hospital LoS was shorter for the intervention group than the control group. Overall QoL scores in the intervention group were also significantly better than control patients. CONCLUSIONS: Education on self-care therapy significantly benefited pain management, recovery, and QoL for patients with MRF who received EPI catheter analgesia after SSRF operation.
