RESUMEN

Polarization-sensitive detectors have significant applications in modern communication and information processing. In this study. We present a polarization-sensitive detector based on a MoTe2/WTe2 heterojunction, where WTe2 forms a favorable bandgap structure with MoTe2 after forming the heterojunction. This enhances the carrier separation efficiency and photoelectric response. We successfully achieved wide spectral detection ranging from visible to near-infrared light. Specifically, under zero bias, our photodetector exhibits a responsivity (R) of 0.6 A/W and a detectivity (D*) of 3.6 × 1013 Jones for 635 nm laser illumination. Moreover, the photoswitching ratio can approach approximately 6.3 × 105. Importantly, the polarization sensitivity can reach 3.5 (5.2) at 635 (1310) nm polarized light at zero bias. This study both unveils potential for utilizing MoTe2/WTe2 heterojunctions as polarization-sensitive detectors and provides novel insights for developing high-performance optoelectronic devices.

In this study, we cloned a novel matrix protein, cysrichin, with 16.03% homology and a similar protein structure to the coral biomineralized protein galaxin. Tissue expression analysis showed that cysrichin was mainly expressed in mantle and gill tissues. In situ hybridization indicated that cysrichin mRNA was detected in the entire epithelium region of mantle tissue. RNAi analysis and shell notching experiment confirmed that cysrichin participates in the prismatic layer and nacreous layer formation of the shell. An in vitro crystallization experiment showed that the cysrichin protein induced lotus-shaped and round-shaped crystals, which were identified as vaterite crystals. These results may provide new clues for understanding the formation of vaterite in freshwater shellfish.

As the high-crystalline phase of carbon nitride, poly(heptazine imide) (PHI) has attracted much attention in recent years, considering the more effective light absorption, better charge carrier behavior, and higher surface area of PHI compared with its counterpart with a melon structure that is commonly synthesized through thermal polymerization. Nevertheless, exploring effective strategies to further improve the performance of PHI is still highly desirable. In this work, it is revealed that the photocatalytic as well as piezocatalytic performances of PHI are greatly promoted by coupling with carbon dots (CDots) through a facile ultrasonication process. Detailed structure characterizations indicate that a very low content of CDots (0.05%) decoration can double the light absorbance and achieve the efficient separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. The optimal photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of PHI/CDots is about 2.49 and 2.81 times that of PHI, under UV-Visible and visible light irradiation, respectively. Moreover, the piezocatalytic H2O2 generation and KMnO4 degradation activities of PHI/CDots are around 2 times that of PHI. The results obtained in this work provide references for the modification of PHI and may inspire new strategies for the design of highly efficient carbonaceous photocatalysts.

Shell matrix proteins have important roles in the biomineralization of shells. In this study, we isolated and identified a novel shell matrix protein gene, hic7, from the mussel Hyriopsis cumingii. The cDNA of hic7 was 459 bp long, including a 240-bp open reading frame. It encoded a 79 amino acid-long protein, with amino acids 1-19 constituting the signal peptide. The resulting hic7 is rich in cysteine (16.5%). After removing the signal peptide, the molecular weight was 8.85 kDa and the theoretical isoelectric point was 6.34, indicating that hic7 is a weakly acidic shell matrix protein. Hic7 is mainly expressed in the mantle tissue of H. cumingii. In situ hybridization showed hic7 signals at the edge and dorsal region of the mantle outer fold, indicating that it is related to the formation of the prismatic and nacreous layer of the shell. RNA interference indicated that when hic7 was inhibited by 80%, the crystal morphology of the prism and nacre layers of the shell were irregular and disordered. In addition, the expression of hic7 during the early development of the pearl sac indicated that it has an important role in the transformation of calcium carbonate crystals from a disordered to an orderly deposition pattern. These results suggest that matrix protein hic7 take part in constructing the framework of crystal nucleation and regulating the calcium carbonate crystal morphology of the nacreous and prismatic layers of shells and pearls.
