RESUMEN

Background: Liver diseases are a spectrum of diseases that include hepatic steatosis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatitis, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatic cancer. These diseases not only severely decrease the quality of life for patients, but also cause financial burden. Although apigenin (APG) has recently become the primary treatment for liver injuries and diseases (LIADs), there has been no systematic review of its use. Purpose: To review the existing literature and put forward novel strategies for future APG research on LIADs. Methods: A search was conducted in PubMed, Science Direct, Research Gate, Web of Science, VIP, Wanfang, and CNKI, and 809 articles were obtained. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 135 articles were included. Results: APG is promising in treating LIADs via various mechanisms arising from its anti-inflammation, anti-proliferation, anti-infection, anti-oxidation, and anti-cancer properties. Conclusion: This review summarizes the evidence supporting the use of APG as a treatment for LIADs and provides an insight into the intestinal microbiota, which may have important implications in its future clinical use.

RESUMEN

Cerium oxide (CeO2 ) nanoparticles have unique redox properties and exert excellent antioxidant effects in the biological environment. In recent years, many researchers have focused on the CeO2 nanoparticles as an effective antioxidant drug in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. However, the toxicity of CeO2 nanoparticles in vivo remains controversial and still needs intensive research. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the pulmonary and systemic toxicity in rats after 14 days of exposure to the PEGylated CeO2 nanoparticles (abbreviated as CNPs; exposure dose of 2, 10, or 20 mg/kg) through a single intratracheal instillation (IT). We assessed the indicators of lung injury and the pathological damage degree of lung tissue. The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis and lung histopathology revealed the occurrence of slight pulmonary inflammation in the 20-mg/kg experimental group rats. However, the inflammation factors in the lung tissue of every group rats did not significantly increase, and the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in lung tissue homogenate rose considerably in the experimental groups. Collectively, these results indicated that pulmonary exposure by the high dose of CNPs could induce mild pulmonary inflammation but did not cause severe systemic toxicity. Moreover, we speculate that the mechanism of pulmonary toxicity of CNPs in rats was due to the autophagic death of healthy lung epithelial cells mediated by endoplasmic reticulum stress. Our results implicate that CNPs can be safely used as an antioxidant drug for the oxidative stress pulmonary diseases.

RESUMEN

Cobalt, nickel and iron are efficient catalysts for numerous chemical and biological reactions, but they are hardly immobilized on solid matrixes due to their relatively weak chelation with the surface molecules. We have employed a co-electrospraying coupling with glutaraldehyde cross-linking technique to prepare cobalt (Co2+), nickel (Ni2+) and iron (Fe2+) catalyst embedded chitosan microparticles (M@MicroCS) (M = Co, Ni and Fe). The Co@MicroCS beads exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the Heck cross-coupling reactions of aromatic iodides with alkenes. Moreover, the Co@MicroCS bead catalyst could be even reused at least for five times without significant loss of the catalytic activities. The average diameter of the free volume holes for the porous Co@MicroCS beads was determined to be much larger than the size of the reactant and product molecules, allowing them to freely migrate through the catalytic sites inside the chitosan beads. These results clearly indicate that the Heck reactions catalyzed by the Co@MicroCS beads primarily occurs inside the porous chitosan beads. Taken together, we have demonstrated a straightforward approach to prepare efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts derived from the first-row transition metal catalysts by entrapping them inside the chitosan microparticles.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To prepare the cross-linked chitosan/poly(acrylic acid)/poly (ethylene oxide) nanofibrous membrance loaded with pseudo-ginseng and to determine its characteristics. METHODS: Pseudo-ginseng entrapped in chitosan, poly (acrylic acid), poly (ethylene oxide) nanofibrous membrane loaded with pseudo-ginseng was prepared by electrospinning and thermal treatment method. The surface morphology of fiber membrane was observed by scanning electron microscopy and the chemical structures were characterized by infrared spectroscopy; the thermal decomposition temperature was analyzed by the thermogravimetric analysis. UV-Vis spectra were used to evaluate the in vitro release properties. RESULTS: The average diameter of the prepared nanofibrous particles was (181 ± 71) nm. The tensile strength of fiber membrane increased by 35.3% and the decomposition temperature increased from 197℃ to 208℃ after crosslinking. Compared with casting film, the structure of fiber membrane increased the release rate and the overall amount of active components from pseudo-ginseng. CONCLUSION: The preparation of chitosan fiber loaded with pseudo-ginseng is simple and the dispersion of pseudo-ginseng is homogeneous. This fibrous pseudo-ginseng exhibited good release performance, providing a new Chinese medicine formulation.

RESUMEN

To understand the adverse drug reaction (ADR) induced by Mailuoning injection. 162 ADRs due to the drug were retrieved from national medical journals of 1988-2007 for statistics. It was shown that there was no relationship between ADR and dosage, but ADR appeared mostly in middle-aged and old groups, and more in male than in female. The occurrence of ADR was commonly within 30 min after injection. It involved injuries of various systems and organs. As for the 123 cases of allergy, 38 were anaphylactic shock (accounting for 23.46%), two people died. ADR characterized by immediate type on initial use and tachy type. It should be paid more attention to the Mailuoning injection for the immediate hypersensitivity reaction (such as anaphylactic shock).
