RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate plasma cytokines (interferon gamma, interleukin-4, and interleukin-17) in patients with viral myocarditis (VMC) and evaluate their predictive value in the progression from VMC to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). METHODS: A prospective, multicenter, observational study included 536 patients with newly diagnosed VMC admitted in cardiology departments of 24 tertiary super specialised university-affiliated hospitals in the China registry from January 2012 to June 2016. Demographics and clinical characteristics at baseline and after three months were collected, including laboratory blood tests, ECG, echocardiography, and drug treatment in each participating site. The plasma anti-viral antibodies (Abs), anti-heart autoimmune Abs, and cytokines were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Of the 536 patients, 534 were included for analysis after two patients died in less than a month. The plasma levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-17 were continually higher in patients with incident DCM than in those without incident DCM at baseline, from the 1st month and the 3rd month; all had a P value of <0.0001. There was a positive correlation between IL-4 and LVEDd (r = 0.30, P < 0.0001) and between IL-17 and LVEDd (r = 0.11, P = 0.02). When all these covariates have entered the model simultaneously, elevated IL-4 and IL-17 were still significantly associated with DCM incidence. The RR (95% CI) of DCM incidence were 1.04 (1.02-1.06) for IL-4 and 5.24 (2.81-9.79) for IL-17. CONCLUSION: The continued elevation of plasma IL-4 and IL-17 in VMC patients were associated with a high incidence of DCM at three months, and these two cytokines were independent predictors for the progression from VMC to DCM.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the possibility of the visual system homeobox 1 (VSX1) gene as a candidate susceptibility gene for Chinese patients with sporadic keratoconus, and to identify sequence variants of the VSX1 gene in such patients. Methods: Cross-sectional study. Genomic DNA was extracted from the leukocytes in the peripheral venous blood of 50 patients with sporadic keratoconus and 50 control subjects without this ocular disorder. Five exons and the intron-exon splicing of the VSX1 gene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products were directly sequenced and compared to the GeneBank database to find mutations. Bioinformatics analysis was done to predict the influence of these mutations on proteins. Results: One novel missense heterozygous mutation (p.R131P) was found in exon 1 of the VSX1 gene in one keratoconus patient. Another heterozygous mutation (p.G160V) in exon 2 was found in two keratoconus patients. These mutations were not detected in the control subjects. Bioinformatics analysis predicted that the p.R131P mutation may not cause a pathogenic change, but the p.G160V mutation might be functionally deleterious. In intron 3 of the VSX1 gene, the nucleotide substitution of g.8326G>A was detected to be heterozygous in 3 cases of sporadic keratoconus and 4 cases of control and homozygous in 2 cases of sporadic keratoconus and 1 case of control. The variation of g.8326G>A belonged to a single polymorphism change of the VSX1 gene. Conclusions: The p.R131P detected in this study is a novel mutation of the VSX1 gene. Sequence variants of the VSX1 gene were identified for the first time in Chinese patients with sporadic keratoconus, but their precise role in disease causation requires further investigations. RESUMEN

Elevated levels of circulating triglycerides and increased arterial stiffness are associated with cardiovascular disease. Numerous studies have reported an association between levels of circulating triglycerides and arterial stiffness. We used Mendelian randomization to test whether this association is causal. We investigated the association between circulating triglyceride levels, the apolipoprotein A-V (ApoA5) -1131T>C single nucleotide polymorphism and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) by examining data from 4421 subjects aged 18-74 years who were recruited from the Chinese population. baPWV was significantly associated with the levels of circulating triglycerides after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure, heart rate, waist-to-hip ratio, antihypertensive treatment and diabetes mellitus status. The -1131C allele was associated with a 5% (95% confidence interval 3-8%) increase in circulating triglycerides (adjusted for age, sex, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, diabetes mellitus and antihypertensive treatment). Instrumental variable analysis showed that genetically elevated levels of circulating triglycerides were not associated with increased baPWV. These results do not support the hypothesis that levels of circulating triglycerides have a causal role in the development of arterial stiffness.

RESUMEN

This study compared the association between blood pressure (BP) and obesity in 1145 Chinese children and adolescents (608 males, 537 females) using data from the 2006 China Health and Nutrition Survey. Obesity was diagnosed by body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). Analysis of variance was used to analyse the difference in BP among different subgroups. Odds ratios (OR) were calculated and multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out. The prevalence of high systolic and diastolic BP increased directly with corresponding increments in BMI, WC and WHtR, although the prevalence and OR of high BP were higher when increased BMI was combined with WC (OR 3.39; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.79, 6.41) or WHtR (OR 3.28; 95% CI 1.71, 6.30). In conclusion, increased BMI, WC and WHtR were directly associated with high BP in Chinese children and adolescents.

RESUMEN

The title complex, [CuCl(2)(C(6)H(6)N(4)S(2))], has a flattened tetrahedral coordination. The Cu(II) atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and is coordinated by two N atoms from a chelating 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-bi-1,3-thiazole ligand and by two Cl atoms. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding exists between the amino groups of the 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-bi-1,3-thiazole ligand and the Cl atoms. The intermolecular separation of 3.425 (1) A between parallel bithiazole rings suggests there is a pi-pi interaction between them.

RESUMEN

The Pseudomonas jinanensis has been isolated from soil and screened by antibioticgram assay and spermatogonial assay. It has certain antibiotic properties. The metabolite which has been produced is certainly effective against Staphylococcus aureus and some other positive germs. The preparation of Pseudomonas jinanensis vaccine, namely PJV. It's biological activity on the growth of tumor-bearing mice and the murine spermatogenesis cell. It is considered that enhancement of nonspecific immunologic function of the host might increase the efficacy of praziquantel on schistosomiasis in mice. PJV has certainly produced effectiveness against malignant pleural effusion (effective rate was 76.5%), cancer of lung (effective rate was 58.3%), many solid kinds of cancer (effective rate was 52.1%), and the total effective rate was 64.2%. It could increase the sensitivity of cancer cells to radiation. PJV could stimulate the animal (rabbit) to develop specific antibody. PJV might belong to the class of immunomodulating agents.
