RESUMEN

BACKGROUND In t(8;21) acute myeloid leukemia (AML), patients with extramedullary infiltration (EMI) tend to have worse survival outcomes than those without EMI. However, it is still unclear whether allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) benefits EMI-positive t(8;21) AML patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study retrospectively enrolled 651 t(8;21) AML patients, and analyzed 51 patients with EMI at diagnosis. Among the 51 patients, 15 patients received allo-HSCT. RESULTS The incidence of EMI in t(8;21) AML was 10.0%, and the first complete remission rate was 78.5% in EMI-positive t(8;21) AML patients. The central nervous system was the most frequently involved site (29.4%), followed by bones (15.7%), and skin (9.8%). In terms of karyotype, 19 (37.3%) patients were t(8;21) alone, 12 (23.5%) had additional loss of a sex chromosome, and 5 (9.8%) had complex karyotype. Significantly better overall survival was observed in patients with allo-HSCT compared to patients without allo-HSCT in both multivariable models (HR=0.32; P=0.0122) and the Kaplan-Meier curves (P=0.0157). CONCLUSIONS Allo-HSCT improved the survival of EMI-positive t(8;21) AML.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Due to the heterogeneity of low-grade gliomas (LGGs), the lack of randomized control trials, and strong clinical evidence, the effect of the extent of resection (EOR) is currently controversial. AIM: To determine the best choice between subtotal resection (STR) and gross-total resection (GTR) for individual patients and to identify features that are potentially relevant to treatment heterogeneity. METHODS: Patients were enrolled from the SEER database. We used a novel DL approach to make treatment recommendations for patients with LGG. We also made causal inference of the average treatment effect (ATE) of GTR compared with STR. RESULTS: The patients were divided into the Consis. and In-consis. groups based on whether their actual treatment and model recommendations were consistent. Better brain cancer-specific survival (BCSS) outcomes in the Consis. group was observed. Overall, we also identified two subgroups that showed strong heterogeneity in response to GTR. By interpreting the models, we identified numerous variables that may be related to treatment heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to infer the individual treatment effect, make treatment recommendation, and guide surgical options through deep learning approach in LGG research. Through causal inference, we found that heterogeneous responses to STR and GTR exist in patients with LGG. Visualization of the model yielded several factors that contribute to treatment heterogeneity, which are worthy of further discussion.

RESUMEN

Wastewater containing organic pollutants cause potential harm to the environment and human health. A series of zirconium-organic frameworks (UiO-66) and their composites were synthesized by solvothermal methods, including band gap adjustment, heterojunction construction, and metal ion doping. For the model pollutant tetracycline (TC), all of the prepared catalysts could achieve effective degradation of it. Therein, the degradation efficiency of tetracycline could reach 95% under the UV irradiation with the aid of the catalyst, in which the UiO-66-NDC was modified with P-C3N4. The free radical capture experiments demonstrated that the superoxide radical (•O2-) was the main oxidizing species for the photodegradation of tetracycline. Hence, the improvement strategy of the catalyst would provide some enlightenment for the development of more efficient photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes in wastewater.

RESUMEN

In order to explore a green, economic, and sustainable phenol production process, a heterojunction semiconductor materials g-C3N4/Zr-Fc MOF was synthesized via an in situ synthesis method. With the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and the Fenton effect, the composite could effectively catalyze the direct hydroxylation of benzene to phenol under visible light irradiation. The yield of phenol and the selectivity were 13.84% and 99.38% under the optimal conditions, respectively, and it could still maintain high photocatalytic activity after 5 photocatalytic cycles. Therefore, the designed photocatalysis-self-Fenton system has great potential in the field of the direct hydroxylation of benzene to phenol.
