RESUMEN

Lanthanide-based NIR-II-emitting materials (1000-1700 nm) show promise for optoelectronic devices, phototherapy, and bioimaging. However, one major bottleneck to prevent their widespread use lies in low quantum efficiencies, which are significantly constrained by various quenching effects. Here, a highly oriented (222) facet is achieved via facet engineering for Cs2NaErCl6 double perovskites, enabling near-complete suppression of NIR-II luminescence quenching. The optimally (222)-oriented Cs2Ag0.10Na0.90ErCl6 microcrystals emit Er3+ 1540 nm light with unprecedented high quantum efficiencies of 90 ± 6% under 379 nm UV excitation (ultralarge Stokes shift >1000 nm), and a record near-unity quantum yield of 98.6% is also obtained for (222)-based Cs2NaYb0.40Er0.60Cl6 microcrystallites under 980 nm excitation. With combined experimental and theoretical studies, the underlying mechanism of facet-dependent Er3+ 1540 nm emissions is revealed, which can contribute to surface asymmetry-induced breakdown of parity-forbidden transition and suppression of undesired non-radiative processes. Further, the role of surface quenching is reexamined by molecular dynamics based on two facets, highlighting the drastic two-phonon coupling effect of a hydroxyl group to 4I13/2 level of Er3+. Surface-functionalized facets will provide new insights for tunable luminescence in double perovskites, and open up a new avenue for developing highly efficient NIR-II emitters toward broad applications.

RESUMEN

Upconversion luminescence plays a crucial role in various technological applications, and among the various valence states of lanthanide elements, Ln3+ has the highest stability. The 4f orbitals of these elements are in a fully empty, semifull, or full state. This special 4f electron configuration allows them to exhibit rich discrete energy levels. However, the 4f-4f transition of Ln3+ rare earth ions itself is prohibited, resulting in a lower luminescence efficiency. This limitation greatly hinders the practical application of upconversion luminescence. In this study, we report nanostructured luminescence-enhanced substrate platforms with both semiconductive local surface plasmons and spatially confined domain effects on a single defect semiconductor substrate. By coupling NaYF4:Yb-Er nanoparticle emitters to the surface of Ti3O5 NC-arrays plasmonic nanostructures, an ultrabright luminescence with a 32-fold increase in green emission and a 40-fold increase in red emission was achieved. Furthermore, the fluorescence resonance energy transfer characteristics observed in the R6G/NaYF4/Ti3O5 NC-array composite film enable accurate detection of fluorescent molecules. The results provide an innovative and intelligent approach to enhance the upconversion luminescence intensity of rare-doped nanoparticles and develop highly sensitive molecular detection systems based on the above luminescence enhancement.

RESUMEN

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is commonly encountered in gynecological practice. Kangfuxiaomi suppository, made from the compound extract of Periplaneta Americana, is a Traditional Chinese Medicine remedy widely used for the treatment of gynecological disorders. This study aimed to preliminarily explore the therapeutic effect of Kangfuxiaomi suppository in a rat model of PID established by chemical injury and pathogen infection. The key parameters assessed were vulvar inflammation score, vaginal + uterine organ index, and serum levels of interleukin (IL)- 8; tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α; C-reactive protein (CRP); superoxide dismutase (SOD); and malondialdehyde (MDA). In addition, levels of IL-6, cyclooxygenase (COX)- 2, and IL-2 in cervical tissues as well as that of IL-1ß and prostaglandin E-2 (PGE2) in uterine tissues were measured. The expression levels of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) p65 and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in uterine tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method. After Kangfuxiaomi suppository treatment, the vulva inflammation score and histopathological score of PID rats showed a tendency to decrease. Serum IL-8, TNF-α, CRP, and MDA levels were reduced, while SOD levels were significantly increased. Levels of IL-6, IL-2, and COX-2 in cervical tissues were somewhat decreased, and PGE2 and IL-1ß levels in uterine tissue were significantly decreased. Moreover, the levels of NF-κB p65 and TLR4 protein expression were also decreased. These findings demonstrated the therapeutic effect of Kangfuxiaomi suppository in PID rats. The underlying mechanism may involve enhanced antioxidant capacity and decreased secretion of proinflammatory factors via the NF-κB/TLR4 signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To explore effect and mechanism of olsalazine of Chinese generic drugs on ulcerative colitis induced by dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS) in BALB/c mice. METHODS: The mouse model of ulcerative colitis was induced by free drinking of 3% (w/v) DSS aqueous solution for seven days. The mice were treated with olsalazine (0.6 g·kg-1) of Chinese generic drugs. The therapeutic effect of olsalazine on ulcerative colitis mice was evaluated by measuring disease activity index (DAI), colonic mucosal injury index (CMDI), histopathological score (HS), and detected the expression levels of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), IL-1ß in serum and IL-7, IL-17, IL-22, epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) in colonic homogenate of mice. RESULTS: Olsalazine significantly increased the contents of IL-2, IL-10, IL-22, TGF and EGF in ulcerative colitis rats, and significantly decreased the scores of DAI, CMDI, HS and the contents in IL-7, IL-17, TNF-α, IL-1ß and IFN-γ when compared with the model group. It improved the degree of colonic lesion in ulcerative colitis mice. CONCLUSIONS: It was suggested that olsalazine has a therapeutic effect on ulcerative colitis induced by DSS in mice, and the mechanism may be related to the increase of IL-2, IL-10, IL-22, TGF, and EGF and the decrease of the expression of IL-7, IL-17, TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IFN-γ.

RESUMEN

Growth pattern and electronic and magnetic properties of Agn Cr (n = 1-16) clusters have been investigated via density functional theory (DFT) combined with CALYPSO structure search method. The optimized geometry shows that the growth of the global minimum structures of Agn Cr clusters have obvious rule. when n > 12, silver atoms grow around an icosahedron which is almost unchanged in each structure. Analyses of electronic properties indicate that the doped Cr atom can only enhance the stability of larger silver clusters. Optical absorption and photoelectron spectra of Agn Cr isomers have been predicted and can be used for their structural identification. The icosahedral Ag12 Cr cluster with large energy level gap can be seen as a superatom. The adsorption capacity of Cr atom in Agn Cr cluster to CO is much higher than that of free Cr atom. The intensity of IR and Ramam spectra can be dramatically enhanced when CO is absorbed on Agn Cr cluster that Cr atom is encapsulated by Ag atoms. Moreover, the red shift of IR and Raman spectra of CO adsorbed on these clusters is also very small compared to free CO. Magnetism calculations show that the magnetic moment of Agn Cr clusters decreases linearly from n = 6 to 12 and increases linearly from n = 12 to 16. The total magnetic moment of Agn Cr cluster is mainly localized on the Cr atom. The change of magnetic moment of Cr atom is related to the charge transfer between Cr and Ag atoms.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency and risk factors for pulmonary complications in elderly patients undergoing combined thoracolaparoscopic radical esophageal cancer surgery, and to develop a predictive model for pulmonary complications occurrence. STUDY DESIGN: Observational study. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Thoracic Surgery, Lujiang County People's Hospital, Anhui Province, China, from January 2017 to August 2022. METHODOLOGY: Two hundred and sixty elderly patients who underwent combined thoracic and laparoscopic radical esophagectomy were included. Univariate and multifactorial analyses were performed to identify risk factors for pulmonary complications, and a predictive model was developed using significant factors. RESULTS: Pulmonary complications occurred in 27.69% of patients. Advanced age, smoking index, diabetes mellitus, tumour location, advanced clinical stage, intraoperative bleeding, duration of operation, and postoperative mechanical ventilation time were significantly associated with pulmonary complications (p<0.05). Multifactorial analysis identified advanced age, diabetes, smoking index, advanced clinical stage, and time of surgery as independent risk factors for pulmonary complications. The prediction model had good predictive efficacy with an area under the ROC curve of 0.857, sensitivity of 83.3%, and specificity of 71.1%. CONCLUSION: Combined thoracolaparoscopic radical esophageal cancer surgery has a high incidence of pulmonary complications in elderly patients. Advanced age, diabetes, smoking index, advanced clinical stage, and time of surgery are independent risk factors for pulmonary complications, and the developed predictive model will be contributing to identify high-risk patients. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have demonstrated satisfactory outcomes of percutaneous endoscopic thoracic decompression (PETD) for single-segment thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (TOLF). However, the clinical outcomes of PETD in patients with multi-segment TOLF (mTOLF) remain unclear. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PETD for patients with multi-segment mTOLF. METHODS: Eighteen consecutive patients (41 segments) with mTOLF were treated with PETD between January 2020 and December 2021. The clinical outcomes were evaluated using the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score and Visual Analog Scale (VAS), whereas radiographic parameters were measured by cross-section area of the spinal canal and anteroposterior diameter of the spinal cord. RESULTS: The follow-up period ranged from 14 to 34 months. The mean operation time and blood loss were 154.06 ± 32.14 min and 61.72 ± 12.72 ml, respectively. Hospital stay after first-stage operation was 10.89 ± 2.42 days. The mJOA score and VAS score significantly improved at the final follow-up, with a mean mJOA recovery rate of 63.3 ± 21.90%. The incidence of complications was 12.2% per level. The radiographic outcomes showed adequate decompression of the spinal cord. CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrates that PETD is effective and safe as a minimally invasive procedure to treat patients with mTOLF. All patients showed relief of their symptoms and improvement in neurological function.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy, characteristics and safety of endoscopic-assisted resection of single-segment posterior longitudinal ligament ossification in the treatment of thoracic spinal stenosis (TSS). Method: Fifteen TSS patients, including 6 males and 9 females aged 43-70 years treated with endoscopic-assisted resection of single-segment posterior longitudinal ligament ossification through the transfacet joint approach by our team from November 2016 to June 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and postoperative complications were recorded. The VAS score, ODI and JOA score (full score, 11 points) were recorded before the operation, after the operation and at the last follow-up to evaluate the clinical efficacy and calculate the improvement rate. Results: The ventral side of the spinal cord was decompressed in all patients, providing improvements in neurological symptoms and significant pain relief. The mean follow-up time was 20.27 ± 3.87 months. Mean operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospitalization time were found to be 84.80 ± 13.23 min, 36.33 ± 7.41 mL, 5.13 ± 1.02 days; respectively. The JOA score at the last follow-up was 8.6 ± 1.25, which was significantly better than the preoperative (5.53 ± 1.20) and postoperative (6.87 ± 1.31) scores (p < 0.05). The mean JOA score improvement rate was 56.5 ± 18.00%. The JOA score improvement rate classification at the last follow-up was excellent in 3 cases, good in 8 cases, effective in 3 cases, and no change in 1 case; for an effective rate of 93.33%. The VAS score significantly decreased from 6.67 ± 1.01 preoperatively to 3.47 ± 0.88 postoperatively and 1.73 ± 0.67 at the last follow-up (p < 0.05). The ODI significantly decreased from 72.07 ± 6.08 preoperatively to 45.93 ± 5.01 postoperatively and 12.53 ± 2.33 at the last follow-up (p < 0.05). Dural rupture occurred in 2 patients during the operation; 1 patient experienced neck discomfort during the operation, which was considered to be caused by high fluid pressure and was relieved by massage and by lowering the height of the irrigation fluid. No cases of cerebrospinal fluid leakage, wound infection or other complications occurred. Conclusion: Endoscopic-assisted resection of posterior longitudinal ligament ossification through the facet joint approach is a safe and effective method for the treatment of TSS.

RESUMEN

Background: This study determined the predictive value of CRMP4 promoter methylation in prostate tissues collected by core needle biopsies for a postoperative upgrade of Gleason Score (GS) to ≥8 in patients with low-risk PCa. Method: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data was conducted from 631 patients diagnosed with low-risk PCa by core needle biopsy at multiple centers and then underwent Radical Prostatectomy (RP) from 2014-2019. Specimens were collected by core needle biopsy to detect CRMP4 promoter methylation. The pathologic factors correlated with the postoperative GS upgrade to ≥8 were analyzed by logistic regression. The cut-off value for CRMP4 promoter methylation in the prostate tissues collected by core needle biopsy was estimated from the ROC curve in patients with a postoperative GS upgrade to ≥8. Result: Multivariate logistic regression showed that prostate volume, number of positive cores, and CRMP4 promoter methylation were predictive factors for a GS upgrade to ≥8 (OR: 0.94, 95% CI: 0.91-0.98, P=0.003; OR: 3.16, 95% CI: 1.81-5.53, P<0.001; and OR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.32-1.55, P<0.001, respectively). The positive predictive rate was 85.2%, the negative predictive rate was 99.3%, and the overall predictive rate was 97.9%. When the CRMP4 promoter methylation rate was >18.00%, the low-risk PCa patients were more likely to escalate to high-risk patients. The predictive sensitivity and specificity were 86.9% and 98.8%, respectively. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.929 (95% CI: 0.883-0.976; P<0.001). The biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival, progression-free survival (PFS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were worse in patients with CRMP4 methylation >18.0% and postoperative GS upgrade to ≥8 than in patients without an upgrade (P ≤ 0.002). Conclusion: A CRMP4 promoter methylation rate >18.00% in prostate cancer tissues indicated that patients were more likely to escalate from low-to-high risk after undergoing an RP. We recommend determining CRMP4 promoter methylation before RP for low-risk PCa patients.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The rat cervicitis model was established with 20% phenol glue to explore the therapeutic effect of Kangfuxiaomi shuan II on rat cervicitis and its mechanism. METHODS: After modeling, the rats were treated with Shuangzuotai suppository (37.84 mg/kg), Kangfuxiaoyan shuan (205.6 mg/kg) and Kangfuxiaomi shuan II (40, 80, 160 mg/kg). The histopathological changes and injury degree of cervix in rats were evaluated by vulvar inflammation score and organ index. The therapeutic effect of Kangfuxiaomi shuan II on cervicitis was evaluated by detecting the levels of copper-protein (CP), C-reactive protein (CRP), Rat interleukin 6 (IL-6), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum and epidermal growth factor (EGF), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in cervical tissue. RESULTS: Compared with the model group, the vulvar inflammation score and cervical index of rats in other groups decreased significantly (P<0.01). Kangfuxiaomi shuan II could significantly reduce the levels of CP, CRP, and MDA in serum of rats with cervicitis, and significantly increase the activity of SOD in serum of rats with cervicitis (P<0.01). The levels of EGF and iNOS in cervical tissue of rats also increased in different degrees, while the level of COX-2 decreased significantly (P<0.01), which significantly improved the pathological degree of vulvar inflammation in rats with cervicitis. CONCLUSIONS: Kangfuxiaomi shuan II has a certain therapeutic effect on cervicitis in rats, and its mechanism may be related to the regulation of inflammatory cytokine network and immunity.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The m5C RNA methylation regulators are closely related to tumor proliferation, occurrence, and metastasis. This study aimed to investigate the gene expression, clinicopathological characteristics, and prognostic value of m5C regulators in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and their correlation with the tumor immune microenvironment (TIM). METHODS: The TNBC data, Luminal BC data and HER2 positive BC data set were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus, and 11 m5C RNA methylation regulators were analyzed. Univariate Cox regression and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression models were used to develop a prognostic risk signature. The UALCAN and cBioportal databases were used to analyze the gene characteristics and gene alteration frequency of prognosis-related m5C RNA methylation regulators. Gene set enrichment analysis was used to analyze cellular pathways enriched by prognostic factors. The Tumor Immune Single Cell Hub (TISCH) and Timer online databases were used to explore the relationship between prognosis-related genes and the TIM. RESULTS: Most of the 11 m5C RNA methylation regulators were differentially expressed in TNBC and normal samples. The prognostic risk signature showed good reliability and an independent prognostic value. Prognosis-related gene mutations were mainly amplified. Concurrently, the NOP2/Sun domain family member 2 (NSUN2) upregulation was closely related to spliceosome, RNA degradation, cell cycle signaling pathways, and RNA polymerase. Meanwhile, NSUN6 downregulation was related to extracellular matrix receptor interaction, metabolism, and cell adhesion. Analysis of the TISCH and Timer databases showed that prognosis-related genes affected the TIM, and the subtypes of immune-infiltrating cells differed between NSUN2 and NSUN6. CONCLUSION: Regulatory factors of m5C RNA methylation can predict the clinical prognostic risk of TNBC patients and affect tumor development and the TIM. Thus, they have the potential to be a novel prognostic marker of TNBC, providing clues for understanding the RNA epigenetic modification of TNBC.

RESUMEN

A complete chloroplast genome of Actinidia rubus, an endemic shrub in China, was sequenced and identified. The length of genome is 156,573 bp, and the GC content is 37.3%. This genome contains a large single copy (LSC; 88,473 bp) region, a small single copy (SSC; 20,492) region, a pair of inverted repeat (IR; 23,804) regions. A total of 113 unique genes were identified, including 78 protein-coding genes, 31 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis based on complete chloroplast genome of 10 species showed that Actintdia eriantha was sister to A. rubus.

RESUMEN

Automatic fine registration of multisensor images plays an essential role in many remote sensing applications. However, it is always a challenging task due to significant radiometric and textural differences. In this paper, an enhanced subpixel phase correlation method is proposed, which embeds phase congruency-based structural representation, L1-norm-based rank-one matrix approximation with adaptive masking, and stable robust model fitting into the conventional calculation framework in the frequency domain. The aim is to improve the accuracy and robustness of subpixel translation estimation in practical cases. In addition, template matching using the enhanced subpixel phase correlation is integrated to realize reliable fine registration, which is able to extract a sufficient number of well-distributed and high-accuracy tie points and reduce the local misalignment for coarsely coregistered multisensor remote sensing images. Experiments undertaken with images from different satellites and sensors were carried out in two parts: tie point matching and fine registration. The results of qualitative analysis and quantitative comparison with the state-of-the-art area-based and feature-based matching methods demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method for multisensor matching and registration.

RESUMEN

Attitude jitter is a crucial factor that limits the imaging quality and geo-positioning accuracy of high-resolution optical satellites, which has attracted significant research interests in recent years. However, few researchers have attempted to retrieve the dynamic characteristics and time-varying trends of a satellite attitude jitter. This paper presents a novel processing framework for detecting, estimating, and investigating time-varying attitude jitter in long strips based on a time-frequency analysis with the input from either an attitude sensor or an optical imaging sensor. Attitude angle signals containing attitude jitter information are detected from attitude data through generating the Euler angles relative to the orbit coordinate system, or from image data through high-accuracy dense matching between parallax observations, correction of integration time variation and frequency domain-based deconvolution. Variational mode decomposition is adopted to extract the separate band-limited periodic components, and Hilbert spectral analysis is integrated to estimate the instantaneous attributes for each time sample and the varying trends for the entire duration. Experiments with three sets of ZiYuan-3 long-strip datasets were carried out to test the novel processing framework of attitude jitter. The experimental results indicate that the processing framework could reveal the dynamic jitter characteristics, and the mutual validations of different data sources demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
