Objective: Microfold cells (M cells) are specific intestinal epithelial cells for monitoring and transcytosis of antigens, microorganisms, and pathogens in the intestine. However, the mechanism for M-cell development remained elusive. Materials and Methods: Real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunofluorescence, and western blotting were performed to analyze the effect of sorbitol-regulated M-cell differentiation in vivo and in vitro, and luciferase and chromatin Immunoprecipitation were used to reveal the mechanism through which sorbitol-modulated M-cell differentiation. Results: Herein, in comparison to the mannitol group (control group), we found that intestinal M-cell development was inhibited in response to sorbitol treatment as evidenced by impaired enteroids accompanying with decreased early differentiation marker Annexin 5, Marcksl1, Spib, sox8, and mature M-cell marker glycoprotein 2 expression, which was attributed to downregulation of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-В ligand (RANKL) expression in vivo and in vitro. Mechanically, in the M-cell model, sorbitol stimulation caused a significant upregulation of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) phosphorylation, leading to decreased protein kinase A (PKA)/cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB) activation, which further resulted in CREB retention in cytosolic and attenuated CREB binds to RANKL promoter to inhibit RANKL expression. Interestingly, endogenous PKA interacted with CREB, and this interaction was destroyed by sorbitol stimulation. Most importantly, inhibition of PDE4 by dipyridamole could rescue the inhibitory effect of sorbitol on intestinal enteroids and M-cell differentiation and mature in vivo and in vitro. Conclusion: These findings suggested that sorbitol suppressed intestinal enteroids and M-cell differentiation and matured through PDE4-mediated RANKL expression; targeting to inhibit PDE4 was sufficient to induce M-cell development.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to determine the dietary patterns associated with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the correlation of dietary inflammatory index (DII) with MCI. METHODS: The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to assess cognitive function. A semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to collect dietary data and calculate DII. Dietary patterns were determined by reduced-rank regression (RRR), grouping dietary pattern scores and DII into quartiles, with logistic regression for correlation analysis. Dose-response relationships between dietary pattern scores, DII and diabetic MCI were explored using restricted cubic splines (RCS). A mediation analysis was performed to investigate whether DII mediates the association between dietary patterns and MCI. RESULTS: In the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 0.37 (95% CI: 0.20-0.68; p for trend=0.002) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of the dietary score. In the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 6.84 (95% CI: 3.58-13.10; p for trend<0.001) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of the dietary score. In the "Western-style dietary pattern", the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 2.48 (95% CI: 1.38-4.46; p for trend=0.001). The multivariable-adjusted odds ratio of having MCI was 3.99 (95% CI: 2.14-7.42; p for trend<0.001) in the highest versus lowest quartiles of DII. There is a non-linear dose-response relationship between the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern" score and the prevalence of MCI, as well as the DII and the prevalence of MCI. The DII partially mediated the impact of the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern" and the "high-meat and low-vegetable pattern" on MCI. CONCLUSION: In T2DM patients, greater adherence to the "Mediterranean-style dietary pattern" is associated with a lower probability of having MCI. However, excessive consumption of meat, especially red meat and processed meat, combined with a lack of vegetable intake, is associated with a higher probability of having MCI. Greater adherence to the "Western-style dietary pattern" is associated with a higher probability of having MCI. In addition, a pro-inflammatory diet is associated with a higher probability of having MCI, and DII partially mediates the impact of dietary patterns on MCI.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs) have emerged as a promising complementary therapy in the management of prostate cancer (PCa), particularly in addressing resistance to Docetaxel (DTX) chemotherapy. AIM OF THE REVIEW: This review aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the development of resistance to DTX in PCa and explore the innovative approach of integrating TCMs in PCa treatment to overcome this resistance. Key areas of investigation include alterations in microtubule proteins, androgen receptor and androgen receptor splice variant 7, ERG rearrangement, drug efflux mechanisms, cancer stem cells, centrosome clustering, upregulation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, enhanced DNA damage repair capability, and the involvement of neurotrophin receptor 1/protein kinase C. MATERIALS AND METHODS: With "Prostate cancer", "Docetaxel", "Docetaxel resistance", "Natural compounds", "Traditional Chinese medicine", "Traditional Chinese medicine compound", "Medicinal plants" as the main keywords, PubMed, Web of Science and other online search engines were used for literature retrieval. RESULTS: Our findings underscore the intricate interplay of molecular alterations that collectively contribute to the resistance of PCa cells to DTX. Moreover, we highlight the potential of TCMs as a promising complementary therapy, showcasing their ability to counteract DTX resistance and enhance therapeutic efficacy. CONCLUSION: The integration of TCMs in PCa treatment emerges as an innovative approach with significant potential to overcome DTX resistance. This review not only provides insights into the mechanisms of resistance but also presents new prospects for improving the clinical outcomes of patients with PCa undergoing DTX therapy. The comprehensive understanding of these mechanisms lays the foundation for future research and the development of more effective therapeutic interventions.

RESUMEN

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a complication of diabetes with a complex pathophysiology and multiple factors involved. Recently, it has been found that the upregulation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) leads to overexpression of angiotensin II (Ang II), which induces oxidative stress, inflammation, and angiogenesis in the retina. Therefore, RAAS may be a promising therapeutic target in DR. Notably, RAAS inhibitors are often used in the treatment of hypertension. Still, the potential role and mechanism of DR must be further studied. In this review, we discuss and summarize the pathology and potential therapeutic goals of RAAS in DR.

Ricin toxin (RT) is highly cytotoxic and can release a considerable amount of pro-inflammatory factors due to depurination, causing excessive inflammation that may aggravate the harm to the body. Pyroptosis, a type of gasdermin-mediated cell death, is a contributor to the exacerbation of inflammation. Accumulating evidence indicate that pyroptosis plays a significant role in the pathogen infection and tissue injury, suggesting a potential correlation between pyroptosis and RT-induced inflammation. Here, we aim to demonstrate this correlation and explore its molecular mechanisms. Results showed that RT triggers mouse alveolar macrophage MH-S cells pyroptosis by activating caspase-3 and cleaving Gasgermin E (GSDME). In contrast, inhibition of caspase-3 with Z-DEVD-FMK (inhibitor of caspase-3) or knockdown of GSDME attenuates this process, suggesting the essential role of caspase-3/GSDME-mediated pyroptosis in contributing to RT-induced inflammation. Collectively, our study enhances our understanding of a novel mechanism of ricin cytotoxicity, which may emerge as a potential target in immunotherapy to control the RT-induced inflammation.

Biodegradable microplastics (MPs) are promising alternatives to conventional MPs and are of high global concern. However, their discrepant effects on soil microorganisms and functions are poorly understood. In this study, polyethylene (PE) and polylactic acid (PLA) MPs were selected to investigate the different effects on soil microbiome and C-cycling genes using high-throughput sequencing and real-time quantitative PCR, as well as the morphology and functional group changes of MPs, using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and the driving factors were identified. The results showed that distinct taxa with potential for MP degradation and nitrogen cycling were enriched in soils with PLA and PE, respectively. PLA, smaller size (150-180 µm), and 5% (w/w) of MPs enhanced the network complexity compared with PE, larger size (250-300 µm), and 1% (w/w) of MPs, respectively. PLA increased ß-glucosidase by up to 2.53 times, while PE (150-180 µm) reduced by 38.26-44.01% and PE (250-300 µm) increased by 19.00-22.51% at 30 days. Amylase was increased by up to 5.83 times by PLA (150-180 µm) but reduced by 40.26-62.96% by PLA (250-300 µm) and 16.11-43.92% by PE. The genes cbbL, cbhI, abfA, and Lac were enhanced by 37.16%- 1.99 times, 46.35%- 26.46 times, 8.41%- 69.04%, and 90.81%- 5.85 times by PLA except for PLA1B/5B at 30 days. These effects were associated with soil pH, NO3--N, and MP biodegradability. These findings systematically provide an understanding of the impact of biodegradable MPs on the potential for global climate change.

This paper explores a novel structure aimed at enhancing its blast resistance performance by adding a layer of polyurea coating to the steel-PVC foam-steel sandwich panel. The response of 13 different arrangements of sandwich panels under explosive loading was studied using numerical simulation. The response process can be divided into three deformation stages: (1) Fluid-structure interaction; (2) Compression of the sandwich panel; (3) Dynamic structural response. The dynamic responses of the various sandwich panels to close-range air blast loading were analyzed based on the deformation characteristics, deflection, effective plastic strain, energy absorption, and pressure of the shock wave. The study draws the following conclusions: Reasonably adding a layer of polyurea to the traditional PVC foam sandwich panel can enhance its resistance to shock wave absorption, with a maximum increase of 29.8%; the optimal arrangement for explosion resistance is steel plate-PVC foam-polyurea-steel plate when the polyurea is coated on the back; and the best quality ratio between polyurea and PVC foam is 1:7 when the polyurea is coated on the front.

BACKGROUND: Megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts (MLC) is a rare, inherited disorder that causes epilepsy, intellectual disorders, and early onset macrocephaly. MLC1 has been identified as a main pathogenic gene. METHODS: Clinical data such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), routine blood tests, and physical examinations were collected from proband. Trio whole-exome sequencing (WES) of the family was performed, and all variants with a minor allele frequency (<0.01) in the exon and canonical splicing sites were selected for further pathogenic evaluation. Candidate variants were validated using Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: Here, we report a new homozygous variant identified in two children from the same family in the MLC1 gene [NM_015166.4: c.838_843delinsATTTTA, (p.Ser280_Phe281delinsIleLeu)]. This variant is classified as variant of uncertain significance (VUS) according to the ACMG guidelines. Further experiments demonstrate that the newly identified variant causes a decrease of MLC1 protein levels when expressed in a heterologous expression system. CONCLUSION: Our case expands on this genetic variation and provides new evidence for the clinical diagnosis of MLC1-related MLC.

2-bromoacetamide (BAcAm) is an emerging class of unregulated disinfection by-products (DBPs), with potent cytogenetic and developmental toxicity in animals. However, whether BAcAm exerts toxic effects on mammalian oocyte quality remains to be elucidate. In this research, we investigated the effect of BAcAm on mouse and human oocyte maturation with an in vitro culture system. Our results revealed that BAcAm exposure hindered the extrusion of the first polar body, disrupted the spindle organization and reduced the competence of embryo development after fertilization in the mouse oocytes. Results of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) showed that 605 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the BAcAm exposed mouse oocytes, among which 366 were up-regulated and 239 were down-regulated. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis further revealed that DEGs were mainly enriched in mitochondrial functions, oxidative stress, cytoskeleton, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi and protein synthesis, DNA damage and apoptosis. We then conducted further tests in these aspects and discovered that BAcAm exposure principally perturbed the function of microtubule and actin cytoskeleton. This finding was confirmed in human oocytes. Overall, our data suggest that BAcAm exposure disturbs the cytoskeleton function, thus impairing oocyte maturation. These data, for the first time, provide a comprehensive view for the toxic effects of BAcAm on oocyte maturation.

Immobilized photocatalysts represent a promising candidate for the wastewater treatments due to their good reusability, high stability and low eco-risk. Mass transfer within the immobilized catalytic bed is a crucial process that determines the contacting, adsorption, and degradation kinetics in the photodegradation. In this study, a floating catalytic foam (FCF) with a prominent pumping effect was designed to promote mass transfer. The polyurethane foam immobilized with rGO/TiO2/ultrathin-g-C3N4 photocatalyst (PRTCN) was prepared by a simple dip-coating and Uv-light aging process. It was found that the hydrophilic-hydrophobic interfaces could not only contribute to the floating of the catalyst but also establish a temperature gradient across the floating immobilized catalyst. In addition, the temperature gradient induced convection could serve as a built-in pump to effectively promote the diffusion and adsorption of target antibiotic molecules during the photocatalytic process. Therefore, the PRTCN demonstrated a high photodegradation and mineralization efficiency with excellent reusability and anti-interference capability. Moreover, the photodegradation mechanism and the intermediates' toxicity of norfloxacin were detailly investigated by ultra-high resolution electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry, density functional theory simulation and ECOSAR estimation. This work proposed a facile and sustainable strategy to enhance the mass transfer problem on immobilized photocatalysts, which could promote the application of the immobilized photocatalysts in the real water-treatment scenarios.

BACKGROUND: To assess the relationship between novel insulin resistance (IR) indices and the presence and severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study involving 2211 patients. The study outcomes were DR events. The study exposures were IR indices including estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), natural logarithm of glucose disposal rate (lnGDR), metabolic insulin resistance score (METS-IR), triglyceride glucose index-body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglyceride glucose index-waist-to-hip ratio (TyG-WHR), and triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(TG/HDL-c ratio). We used binary and multivariate ordered logistic regression models to estimate the association between different IR indices and the presence and severity of DR. Subject work characteristic curves were used to assess the predictive power of different IR indices for DR. RESULTS: DR was present in 25.4% of participants. After adjusting for all covariates, per standard deviation (SD) increases in eGDR (ratio [OR] 0.38 [95% CI 0.32-0.44]), lnGDR (0.34 [0.27-0.42]) were negatively associated with the presence of DR. In contrast, per SD increases in METS-IR (1.97 [1.70-2.28]), TyG-BMI (1.94 [1.68-2.25]), TyG-WHR (2.34 [2.01-2.72]) and TG/HDL-c ratio (1.21 [1.08-1.36]) were positively associated with the presence of DR. eGDR was strongly associated with severity of DR. Of all variables, eGDR had the strongest diagnostic value for DR (AUC = 0.757). CONCLUSIONS: Of the six IR indices, eGDR was significantly associated with the presence and severity of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes. eGDR has a good predictive value for DR. Thus, eGDR maybe a stronger marker of DR.

Biallelic mutations of the chromatin regulator SMARCAL1 cause Schimke Immunoosseous Dysplasia (SIOD), characterized by severe growth defects and premature mortality. Atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia are common among SIOD patients, yet their onset and progression are poorly understood. Using an integrative approach involving proteomics, mouse models, and population genetics, we investigated SMARCAL1's role. We found that SmarcAL1 interacts with angiopoietin-like 3 (Angptl3), a key regulator of lipoprotein metabolism. In vitro and in vivo analyses demonstrate SmarcAL1's vital role in maintaining cellular lipid homeostasis. The observed translocation of SmarcAL1 to cytoplasmic peroxisomes suggests a potential regulatory role in lipid metabolism through gene expression. SmarcAL1 gene inactivation reduces the expression of key genes in cellular lipid catabolism. Population genetics investigations highlight significant associations between SMARCAL1 genetic variations and body mass index, along with lipid-related traits. This study underscores SMARCAL1's pivotal role in cellular lipid metabolism, likely contributing to the observed lipid phenotypes in SIOD patients.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignancies in males worldwide, and its development and progression involve the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways. Alterations in lipid metabolism affect the proliferation and metastatic capabilities of PCa cells. Cancer cells increase lipid synthesis and regulate fatty acid oxidation to meet their growth and energy demands. Similarly, changes occur in amino acid metabolism in PCa. Cancer cells exhibit an increased demand for specific amino acids, and they regulate amino acid transport and metabolic pathways to fulfill their proliferation and survival requirements. These changes are closely associated with disease progression and treatment response in PCa cells. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation of the metabolic characteristics of PCa is expected to offer novel insights and approaches for the early diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Machine learning-assisted spectroscopy analysis faces a prominent constraint in the form of insufficient spectral samples, which hinders its effectiveness. Meanwhile, there is a lack of effective algorithms to simulate synthetic spectra from limited samples of real spectra for regression models in continuous scenarios. In this study, we introduced a continuous conditional generative adversarial network (CcGAN) to autonomously generate synthetic spectra. The labels employed for generating the spectral data can be arbitrarily selected from within the range of labels associated with the real spectral data. Our approach effectively produced spectra using a small spectral dataset obtained from a self-interference microring resonator (SIMRR)-based sensor. The generated synthetic spectra were subjected to evaluation using principal component analysis, revealing an inability to discern them from the real spectra. Finally, to enhance the DNN regression model, these synthetic spectra are incorporated into the original training dataset as an augmentation technique. The results demonstrate that the synthetic spectra generated by CcGAN exhibit exceptional quality and significantly enhance the predictive performance of the DNN model. In conclusion, CcGAN exhibits promising potential in generating high-quality synthetic spectra and delivers a superior data augmentation effect for regression tasks.

Then we constructed a ORGs risk score for prognosis and a ORGs signature for accurate prediction of TME phenotype and immunotherapy efficacy in order to evaluate individual patients. RESULTS: Two distinct ORGs patterns were generated. The two ORGs patterns were consistent with inflammatory and non-inflammatory TME phenotypes. ORGs patterns had an important role for predicting immunotherapy efficacies. Next, we constructed a ORGs risk score for predicting each patient's prognosis with high performance in TCGA-PRAD. The ORGs risk score could be well verified in the external cohorts including GSE70769 and GSE21034. Then, we developed a ORGs signature and found it was significantly positively correlated with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in TCGA-PRAD. We found that each patient in the high-risk ORGs signature group represented a non-inflamed TME phenotype on the single cell level. The patients with high ORGs signature had more sensitivity to immunotherapy. And those ORGs were verified. CONCLUSIONS: ORGs pattern depicts different TME phenotypes in PRAD. The ORGs risk score and ORGs signature have an important role for predicting prognosis and immunotherapy efficacies.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 and the subsequent intermittent lockdown measures from 2020 to 2022 in China critically disrupted regular medical activities, including dental care. This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on long-term follow-up at the Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and to evaluate potential causes of loss to follow-up. METHODS: A total of 1062 patients with periodontitis who visited the hospital from January 2019 to June 2022 were included in this study, and patient information was collected retrospectively in the form of a telephone questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions in four areas: demographic characteristics, clinical periodontal parameters, oral hygiene habits, and follow-up-related open-ended questions (specific reasons for loss to follow-up, attitudes toward follow-up and suggestions for increasing participation in future follow-ups). Regression analysis of factors influencing the follow-up of patients with periodontitis were analyzed by regression analysis using R (v4.2.3) software. RESULTS: A total of 536 (50.47%) valid questionnaires were collected from 1062 patients. Personal factors (42.5%), instead of the COVID-19 epidemic (20.0%), were the main factors that impacted the loss to follow-up in long-term periodontal treatment, while work factors (19.8%), hospital factors (16.4%), and transportation or distance factors (14.7%) were all important factors. A family history of periodontitis [odds ratio (OR) = 0.567, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.393, 0.817, p = 0.002], as well as frequent use of dental devices (OR = 0.540, 95% CI: 0.375, 0.777, p = 0.001), were significantly associated with a "negative" attitude toward follow-up visits. CONCLUSION: This survey suggests that the COVID-19 epidemic factor was an important cause contributed to the loss to follow-up during supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) among a variety of potential factors. Majority of patients had negative attitudes toward subsequent continued participation in supportive care.

RESUMEN

In recent years, IL-34 has been widely discussed as a novel cytokine. IL-34 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine binding four distinct receptors, namely CSF-1R, syndecan-1, PTP-ζ and TREM2. Previous studies have shown that IL-34 and its receptors play important roles in the development and progression of various inflammatory diseases. Therefore, IL-34 has the potential to be a biomarker and therapeutic target for inflammatory diseases. However, further study is still needed to identify the specific mechanism through which IL-34 contributes to illness. In this article, we review the recent advances in the biological roles of IL-34 and its receptors as well as their roles in the development and therapeutic application of inflammatory diseases.

The migration and transformation of Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), DechloranePlus (DP), and cadmium in soil-rice system was investigated, and the influence on the quality of two varieties of rice was studied. The degradation half-lives of TBBPA, BBPAs, syn-DP, and anti-DP were 23.18 ~ 26.36 days, 30.14 ~ 36.10 days, 72.96-81.55 days, and 169.06-198.04 days in the soil. TBBPA was gradually degraded to tri-BBPA, di-BBPA, mono-BBPA, and bisphenol A by the debromination. TBBPA and its bromide metabolites could be bioaccumulated in different tissues of rice; mono-BBPA and bisphenol A was easy to accumulate in the stems, and bisphenol A was easy to bioaccumulate in the grain. Comparing with single and compound pollution, there was no significant difference in bioaccumulation factors of two rice species. The grain of NO7 had stronger bioaccumulation ability to mono-BBPA and BPA than NO1, and there is no significant difference in TBBPA. Residual level of DP in the rice: roots > stems > grain; there was no significant difference in bioaccumulation of two varieties of rice. Cadmium was easily bioaccumulated in the roots of rice and translocated to the rice stems and grains. NO7 rice had stronger bioaccumulation and transport capacity than NO1. The effects of the three pollutants on the quality of two varieties of rice varied significantly; cadmium had the greatest effect on the iodine blue value (BV) and amylase activity of the grain. This study proved that selecting rice varieties with low bioaccumulation to polluters can effectively reduce the risk of the food chain harming human health.

Vaccariae Semen, derived from the dried ripe seed of Vaccaria segetalis (Neck.) Garcke, has various therapeutic characteristics in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), containing promoting blood circulation and unblocking meridians. It exhibits significant anti-cancer activity and is therapeutically utilized to treat and reduce chemotherapy adverse effects in cancer patients, notably those with lung cancer. However, the active ingredients responsible for its anti-lung cancer efficacy remain unknown. In this study, we used A549 cell fishing in conjunction with UHPLC-LTQ Orbitrap MS to screen for anti-lung cancer active components in Vaccariae Semen. The cell counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay revealed that the n-butanol extract substantially reduced A549 cell growth. Through the cell fishing assay, we found 14 A549 cell-binding compounds in the n-butanol extract, all of which were identified as triterpenoid saponins. The total saponins of Vaccariae Semen were subsequently purified using macroporous adsorption resin (MAR), and they showed a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of A549 lung cancer cells, as well as alterations in cell morphology, apoptosis, and fragmentation. In conclusion, saponins were discovered as the key active components responsible for the anti-lung cancer activity of Vaccariae Semen.

BACKGROUND: A new uric acid (UA) index has recently been proposed, while serum uric acid (SUA), fasting triglyceride, and fasting blood glucose levels in the index are shown to affect cognitive function. This study aims to investigate the clinical value of the UA index for assessing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. METHODS: This was an observational cross-sectional study with 616 participants. A generalized additive model was used to determine a linear or curvilinear relationship between cognitive performance and the UA index. Logistic regression and random forest models were both developed. A receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was delineated and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. RESULTS: MCI was diagnosed in 313 participants (50.81%). Compared with the T2D-normal cognitive function group, MCI subjects had higher UA indexes, lower cognitive scores, and lower education levels (p < 0.001). Generalized additive models showed the UA index and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score to be decreased linearly (p < 0.001). The UA index AUC was 0.751 (95% CI = 0.713-0.789, p < 0.001). The optimal cut-off point for the identification of MCI based on the UA index was 11.26 (sensitivity: 62.3%, specificity: 75.9%). Results for females in the cohort yielded an AUC change of + 2.5%, the less-educated population (AUC change of + 4.7%), and the hypertensive population (AUC change of + 1.1%). The AUCs were 0.791 (95% CI = 0.720-0.863) for the random forest model and 0.804 (95% CI = 0.770-0.837) for the logistic regression model, and no statistical significance was found (p = 0.758). CONCLUSION: This study showed that the increased UA index was independently associated with MCI in patients with T2D, especially among female, less-educated, and hypertensive patients. It could be a potential indicator of MCI in T2D patients.
