RESUMEN

The reaction of CF3COOAg, 3-bdppmapy (N,N-bis(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)-3-aminopyridine) and HTZ (1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol) in CH2Cl2/MeOH resulted in a dinuclear Ag/P/S complex [Ag2(TZ)2(3-bdppmapy)2]·xSol (1·xSol). Crystals of 1·xSol converted to 1·2MeOH in air at room temperature and further to 1 under vacuum upon heating. The solid-state, room-temperature photoluminescent emission of 1·xSol (510 nm) shifted to 494 nm (1·2MeOH) and 486 nm (1). Grinding solids of 1·2MeOH in air resulted in amorphous 1G characterized by solid-state emission at 468 nm, which converted to 1GR with 513 nm emission upon MeOH treatment. Grinding 1GR in air returned 1G, and this interconversion was reproducible over five cycles. The solid-state photoluminescence of 1G changed in response to vapors containing low-molecular weight alcohols but remained unchanged after exposure to other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or to water vapor. Test papers impregnated with 1G could detect methanol in vapors from aqueous solutions at concentrations above 50%. Complex 1G is, therefore, an example of a stimuli-responsive molecular sensor for the detection of alcohols.

RESUMEN

Reaction of [(3-bdppmapy)(AuCl)2] with NaHmba (3-bdppmapy = N,N'-bis-(diphenylphosphanylmethyl-3-aminopytidine, H2mba = 2-mercaptobenzoic acid) resulted in a new tetranuclear Au/P/S complex [(3-bdppmapy)2(AuHmba)3(AuCl)] (1). Upon excitation at 370 nm, 1 exhibited solid state, room temperature, green fluorescent emission (QY = 4.7%, τ = 2.58 ns) which was significantly enanced at lower temperatures due to strengthening of the Au-Au interaction. Different ratios of 1 with phosphor N630 in PMMA were used to make thermochromic photoluminescent films and fibres that could be fabricated into an optical thermometer sensitive over temperature ranges 80-300 K and 300-370 K.

RESUMEN

A photoluminescent bimetallic cluster [Ag10 Cu6 (bdppthi)2 (C≡CPh)12 (MeOH)2 (H2 O)](ClO4 )4 (1, bdppthi=N,N'-bis(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)-tetrahydroimidazole} was synthesized from the PNNP type ligand bdppthi generated in-situ. Upon excitation at 365 nm, 1 exhibited strong phosphorescent emission at 630 nm, which was selectively quenched by NH3 in air or water. The sensing of NH3 was rapid and recoverable, with detection limits of 53 ppm (v/v) in N2 and 21 µmol/L (0.36 ppm, w/w) for NH3 ⋅ H2 O in water. Cluster 1 could potentially serve as a bifunctional chemical sensor for the efficient detection of ammonia in waste-gas and waste-water.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Teratomas commonly arise in the gonads, including ovary and testis. The kidney is one of the most rare regions of primary teratoma. To date, about 19 cases of renal teratoma have been reported, and only 3 articles have reported renal immature teratoma; however, all of them occur in infant or children. In the present study, we reported a renal inmature teratoma in a male adult. PATIENT CONCERNS: The present patient was a middle-aged man with aching pain in the left waist, and contrast-enhanced CT showed a lump in the left kidney with mild-to-moderate enhancement, and a low density small necrotic area was seen in the center. DIAGNOSIS, INTERVENTIONS, AND OUTCOMES: The patient underwent radical nephrectomy. Based on postsurgical histopathology, the final diagnosis of this case was renal immature teratoma. Postoperative chemotherapy was carried out, and the patient has been followed-up for 18 months without tumor recurrence. LESSONS: Adult renal immature teratoma is rare, and the diagnosis is mainly based on the pathological findings.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Several studies have been conducted to explore the prognostic value of miR-183 in different types of cancer; however, their results were controversial. Therefore, the present meta-analysis was conducted to comprehensively evaluate the prognostic value of miR-183 expression level in cancer. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was carried out by searching PubMed and EMBASE database between January 1966 and April 2017. Fixed effect and random effect models were used to evaluate the pooled hazard risk (HR) and the relevant 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analysis were also carried out. RESULTS: A total of 12 studies published between 2011 and 2017 were included in the present meta-analysis. The meta-analysis result indicated that there was a significant association between miR-183 expression level and overall survival (HR = 2.642; 95%CI: 2.152-3.245), and there was a significant association between miR-183 expression level and tumor progression (HR = 2.403; 95%CI: 1.267-4.559). In subgroup analysis, we found that high expression level was significantly associated with poor prognosis in most cancers (HR = 2.824, 95%CI: 2.092-3.813); however, low miR-183 level was significantly associated with poor prognosis in melanoma and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (HR = 2.322, 95%CI: 1.337-4.031). CONCLUSIONS: The results of our meta-analysis indicated that the highly expressed miR-183 might predict poor survival of patients with most cancer types, whereas the downregulated miR-183 level might be associated with poor prognosis in patients with melanoma and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

RESUMEN

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is insensitive to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and its prognosis remains poor. Targeted therapy is a novel technique for the treatment of RCC. The present study aimed to determine the precise effects of microRNA-183 (miR-183) on RCC. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis was conducted in order to analyze the expression level of miR-183 in RCC cell lines. Cell transfection, viability assays and invasion assays were also performed, followed by western blot analysis and a luciferase reporter assay, in order to examine the effects of miR-183. The expression of miR-183 was upregulated in all four RCC cell lines compared with the immortalized normal proximal tubule epithelial HK-2 cell line. The cell viability and invasion assays demonstrated that decreased expression of miR-183 suppressed RCC cell proliferation and invasion in vitro. Furthermore, the present study identified that Dickkopf-related protein-3 (DKK-3) was a direct target of miR-183 in RCC. The results demonstrated that miR-183 functioned as an oncogene by downregulating DKK-3 expression and that it provided a potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic target for RCC.

RESUMEN

Due to its characteristic of high biomass yield potential, there is considerable interest in cultivating Phalaris arundinacea L. cv. 'chuancaoyin No.3' (reed canary grass) on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau where there is an abundance of alpine steppe meadow and a potential large market for animal husbandry. In this study, we 1) investigate whether reed canary grass exhibits superior productive capacity to Elymus nutans 'Aba' (E. nutans), ordinary common pasture, during the long warm days of summer at high-altitude; and 2) compare the cold tolerance between reed canary grass and E. nutans, including photosynthesis, photo-inhibition, and photo-protection. The results suggest that reed canary grass exhibits higher photosynthetic capacity compared to E. nutans at latitudes of the cool temperate zone. Meanwhile, cold-induced photo-inhibition and photo-damage at high altitudes in reed canary grass were due to both stomatal and non-stomatal limitation, and the enhancement in photo-respiration, thermal dissipation, and Mehler reaction are important processes to minimize the negative effects of high elevation and a cold environment.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical application of the ureteral dilation catheter combined with the balloon catheter under the ureteroscope in the treatment of urethral stricture in men. METHODS: Under the ureteroscope, 45 male patients with urethral stricture received placement of a zebra guide wire through the strictured urethra into the bladder and then a ureteral dilation catheter along the guide wire, followed by dilation of the urethra from F8 initially to F14 and F16. Again, the ureteroscope was used to determine the length of the strictured urethra, its distance to the external urethral orifice, and whether it was normally located. An F24 balloon catheter and then a metal urethral calibrator was used for the dilation of the strictured urethra. After removal of the F18-F22 urethral catheter at 8 weeks, the urinary flow rate was measured immediately and again at 3 months. RESULTS: All the operations were successfully performed without serious complications. The maximum urinary flow rate was (13.3-29.9) ml/s (mean [17.7 ± 3.2] ml/s) at the removal of the catheter and (15.2-30.8) ml/s (mean [19.8 ± 3.9] ml/s) at 3 months after it. Smooth urination was found in all the patients during the 6-24 months follow-up. CONCLUSION: The application of the ureteral dilation catheter combined with, the balloon catheter under the ureteroscope is a good option for the treatment of male urethral stricture for its advantages of uncomplicatedness, safety, effectiveness, few complications, less pain, high success rate, and repeatable operation.

RESUMEN

Siberian wildrye (Elymus sibiricus L.) is one of the predominant pasture species in Qinghai-Tibet plateau of China. It supplies a large number of fodders to domestic animals in spring and winter, and provides a large proportion of the summer and autumn grazing in these alpine regions. Crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) are the most important aspects of nutritive value of forages. A successful application of near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in combination with partial least square regression (PLSR) for the determination of four parameters (CP, ADF, NDF and IVDMD) of Siberian wildrye was developed. The standard errors of calibration (SEC, %DM) and Rcal(2) values (in parentheses) were 0.3299(0.9945), 0.7799(0.9499), 1.3430(0.9133), and 1.3762(0.9822) for CP, ADF, NDF and IVDMD equations, respectively. The standard errors of prediction (SEP, %DM) and Rval(2) values (in parentheses) were 0.3621(0.9938), 0.7878(0.9449), 1.3852(0.8907), and 1.4303(0.9790) for CP, ADF, NDF and IVDMD, respectively. A good correlation (r>0.9438) was found between results from NIRS and the traditional chemical method, and residual predictive deviation (RPD) ranged from 3.02 to 12.63. It was concluded that NIR spectroscopic technique associated with chemometrics is sufficiently sensitive to allow the accurate prediction of the concentrations of compo nents (CP, ADF and NDF) and IVDMD of Siberian wildrye.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Several observational studies have shown that metformin therapy may modify the risk of prostate cancer. We carried out a meta-analysis of relevant studies evaluating the effect of metformin therapy on prostate cancer risk. METHODS: We searched pubmed database (January 1966-February 2014) for case-control and cohort studies that assessed metformin therapy and prostate cancer risk. Two authors independently assessed eligibility and extracted data. Summary RRs was calculated using fixed-effects model or random-effects model. Heterogeneity among studies was examined using Q and I(2) statistics. RESULTS: We included six cohort studies and four case-control studies in the present meta-analysis, comprising 863,769 participants and 39,073 prostate cancer cases. The pooled RR of prostate cancer in relation to metformin therapy was 0.92 (95% CI: 0.84-1.02, P = 0.112). When we stratified the various studies by study type, we found that metformin therapy was associated with a significant reduced risk of prostate cancer among cohort studies (RR = 0.92, 95% CI [0.87, 0.96], P<0.001); however, no significant association was detected among case-control studies (RR = 0.95, 95% CI [0.78, 1.16], P = 0.632). There was also no indication of publication bias as suggested by Begg's test (P = 0.421) and Egger's test (P = 0.627). CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that metformin therapy is not significantly associated with lower prostate cancer risk.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To improve the methods and reduce the complications of circumcision with a disposable suture device. METHODS: This study included 325 male patients aged 14-65 (mean 28.9) years, treated for redundant prepuce or phimosis by modified (n = 201) or conventional circumcision with a disposable suture device (n = 124). We compared the incidence of complications and the patients' satisfaction between the two surgical methods. RESULTS: Compared with conventional circumcision, the modified method showed a significantly lower incidence of postoperative bleeding (14.52% vs 2.49% , P < 0.05) and a lower rate of second surgery for penile hematoma (4.03% vs 0.50%, P < 0.05). The patients' satisfaction was markedly higher with the modified method (91.94%) than with conventional circumcision (97.51%) (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Modified circumcision with the disposable suture device can significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative bleeding and penile hematoma and therefore deserves wide clinical application.

RESUMEN

Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) is an inexpensive, rapid, environment-friendly and non-invasive analytical technique that has been extensively applied in the analysis of the dietary attributes and the animal products. Acquisition of dietary attributes is essential for nutritional diagnoses to provide animals with reasonable diet. Traditionally, the calibration equations for the prediction of dietary attributes (e. g. crude protein) are developed from feed NIR spectra and the results of conventional chemical analysis (i. e. reference data). It is difficult to obtain the NIR spectra of forages consumed by grazing animals, so the method of this calibration is inappropriate for free-grazing herbivores. Feces, as the animal's metabolites, contain the information about both the animal's diet and the animal itself. Recently, Fecal-NIRS (F. NIRS) has been directly used to monitor diet information (botanical composition, chemical composition and digestibility), based on correlation between reference data and fecal NIR profile. Subsequently, some additional application (such as sex and species discrimination, reproductive and parasite status) of F. NIRS also is outlined. In the last, application of NIRS in animal manure is summarized. NIRS was shown to be an alternative to conventional wet chemical methods for analyzing some nutrient concentrations in animal manure rapidly. Overall, this paper proves that F. NIRS is a rapid and valid tool for the determination of the dietary attributes and of the physiological status of animal, although more efforts need to be done to improve the accuracy of the F. NIRS technique. Several researchers in English have reviewed the applications of F. NIRS. In China, however, there is a paucity of research and application regarding F. NIRS. We expect that this paper in Chinese will be helpful to the development of F. NIRS in China. At the same time, we propose NIRS as a simple and rapid analytical method for predicting the main chemical composition (dry matter, organ matter, total solid, volatile solid, total nitrogen, total Kjeldahl nitrogen and ammonium nitrogen) in animal manure.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The relationship of vasectomy to prostate cancer has great public health significance. However, the results of observational studies were conflicting. To determine whether vasectomy is associated with the risk of prostate cancer, we performed a meta-analysis of cohort studies. METHODS: A literature search was carried out using Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Libraryl, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) between January 1966 and July 2013. Before meta-analysis, between-study heterogeneity and publication bias were assessed using adequate statistical tests. Fixed-effect and random-effect models were used to estimate summary relative risks (RR) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Potential sources of heterogeneity were detected by meta-regression. Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analysis were also performed. RESULTS: A total of nine cohort studies contributed to the analysis. There was heterogeneity among the studies but no publication bias. Pooled results indicated that vasectomy was not associated with a significant increase of total prostate cancer risk (RR = 1.07, 95% CI [0.79, 1.46]). When stratified the various studies by geographic location, we found a significant association between vasectomy and increased PCa risk among studies conducted in the USA (RR = 1.54, 95% CI [1.23, 1.93]), however, there was no significant association between vasectomy and PCa risk among studies conducted in non-USA countries (RR = 0.74, 95% CI [0.50, 1.09]). Furthermore, sensitivity analysis confirmed the stability of the results. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the present meta-analysis of cohort studies suggested that vasectomy was not associated with increased risk of prostate cancer. More in-depth studies are warranted to report more detailed results, including stratified results by age at vasectomy, tumor grade, and tumor stage.

RESUMEN

Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is a new type of forage grasses of high yield and quality with a great value of popularization and utilization. In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) is one of the important indicators of the nutritional value of forage evaluation. For the study of establishment of Chicory IVDMD NIRS quantitative analysis model, seventy-two species with different genotypes, different growth stages of 204 chicory samples of aboveground material were collected, and by Fourier transform near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, through the use of different regression algorithms, can comparing different spectral ranges and spectral pretreatment methods, eight chicory IVDMD NIRS calibration models were established, and the best calibration model parameters were chosen. Its calibration coefficient of determination (Ri) and external validation coefficient of determination (Rval2) were 0.95317 and 0.90455, calibration standard deviation (RMSEC) and predictive standard deviation (RMSEP) was 1.977 99% and 2.008 82%, and the correlation coefficient (r) between predicted values and chemical values was 0.95108. The results show that using NIRS to determine chicory IVDMD is feasible, and provided a rapid analysis method for the determination IVDMD of chicory.

RESUMEN

We report the case of a 72-year-old man with a right adrenocortical mass who had undergone complete tumour excision with the adrenal gland and around adipose tissue. Pathologic examination led to a final diagnosis of primary sarcomatoid carcinoma of the right adrenal gland. The patient was without recurrence at the one year follow-up. To our knowledge, this is the first case in China and the second reported case in English published studies.

RESUMEN

The majority of nutrients in ruminants and other herbivores come from forages. Forage quality not only affects the growth and production efficiency of livestock, but also determines the final output and quality of livestock products. Forage quality mainly depends on nutrient concentrations and their digestibility, palatability and the level of presence of antiquality factors and mycotoxins in forage. Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has been widely used in many research areas because it is a inexpensive, rapid, simple and nondestructive technique offering the potential for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The present paper briefly introduces the principle and characteristics of NIRS, detailedly expounds the application of NIRS in forage quality. In addition, other applications of near infrared spectroscopy technique in forage are also discussed, including forage breeding, identification of variety and classification by kind. This paper comprehensively reviews the status quo of application of NIRS in forage filed, in order to contribute to promoting development of NIRS in this field in China.
