RESUMEN

In this study, we present a bimetallic ion coexistence encapsulation strategy employing hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as a mediator to anchor cobalt-nickel (CoNi) bimetals in nitrogen-doped porous carbon cubic nanoboxes (CoNi@NC). The fully encapsulated and uniformly dispersed CoNi nanoparticles with the improved density of active sites help to accelerate the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics and provide an efficient charge/mass transport environment. Zinc-air battery (ZAB) equipped CoNi@NC as cathode exhibits an open-circuit voltage of 1.45 V, a specific capacity of 870.0 mAh g-1, and a power density of 168.8 mW cm-2. Moreover, the two CoNi@NC-based ZABs in series display a stable discharge specific capacity of 783.0 mAh g-1, as well as a large peak power density of 387.9 mW cm-2. This work provides an effective way to tune the dispersion of nanoparticles to boost active sites in nitrogen-doped carbon structure, and enhance the ORR activity of bimetallic catalysts.

RESUMEN

Ectropis grisescens (Lepidoptera, Geometridae) is one of the main leaf-eating pests in tea plantations in China. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of this species was sequenced and assembled. The total length of the mitochondrial genome of E. grisescens was 15,794 bp (GenBank accession No. MW337302). The base composition was 41.26% for A, 39.49% for T, 7.92% for G, and 11.33% for C. The circular mitogenome contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis performed using 13 protein-coding genes of 15 species of Geometridae and an out-group Pieris melete (Lepidoptera, Pieridae) showed that E. grisescens is closely related to species of E. obliqua, and this is consistent with the morphological identification.

RESUMEN

Layered hexagonal Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes have been successfully fabricated on the surface of reduce graphite oxide (rGO) via nickel induced in situ growth in this study. The layers number and size of Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes could be controlled by adjusting the concentration of Ni2+ precursors with nickel as active site on rGO surface. In the three electrode systems, the composite showed a relatively high specific capacitance achieved 1012.2 F∙g-1 at current density of 1 A∙g-1 with coulombic efficiency of 98.3%. As assembled in asymmetric devices (Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes loaded on rGO as positive electrode and active carbon as negative electrode), the maximum specific capacitance reaches to 260.9 F∙g-1 at current density of 0.5 A∙g-1 and the energy density can be maintained at 71.1 Wh∙kg-1 at power density of 26.95 kW∙kg-1 with good rate capability and acceptable cycling stability.

RESUMEN

Iron and nitrogen co-doped carbon (Fe-N-C) materials are among the most active non-precious metal catalysts that could replace Pt-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells and metal-air batteries. The synthesis of the Fe-N-C catalysts often involves the use of aniline as the precursor for both N and C and ammonium peroxydisulfate (APS) as an indispensable oxidative initiator for aniline polymerization. Herein, a detailed structure and catalytic ORR performance comparison of aniline-derived Fe-N-C catalysts synthesized with and without the use of APS is reported. The APS-free preparation, which uses Fe(III) ions as the Fe source as well as the aniline polymerization initiator, results in a simple Fe-N-C catalyst with a high activity for the ORR. We show that APS is not necessary for the preparation and even detrimental to the performance of the catalyst.

RESUMEN

A leaf disc bioassay was employed to examine the effects of fenpropathrin and avermectin with a sublethal concentration of LC20 on the development and reproduction of F0, F1 and F2 generations by means of life tables. The results showed that after the treatment of fenpropathrin at the sublethal concentration, the number of eggs laid per female significantly increased in F0 generation, the pre-oviposition duration was significantly shortened and the female ratio of offspring significantly increased both in F1 and F2 generations. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) and finite rate of increase (λ) values all increased, and the generation time (T) and population doubling time (Dt) were shortened in F1 and F2 generations, with significant difference observed between F2 generations and the control. After exposure to avermectin, the number of eggs laid per female significantly decreased in F0 generation, and progeny (F1 and F2) also produced fewer eggs than the control, while the female ratio of offspring increased both in F1 and F2 generations and the pre-oviposition period was significantly shortened. The rm and λ values all increased, and the T and Dt were shortened in F1 and F2 generations. Such effects were more obvious on the F2 generation than the F1 generation. Generally, the effects of fenpropathrin and avermectin with a sublethal concentration of LC20 were not exactly the same on P. citri. Fenpropathrin could promote the development of the contemporary population, while avermectin had certain inhibition on the contemporary population, but both played a certain role in facilitating the development of future populations, which was of significance in developing integrated pest management strategies.

RESUMEN

Ribosomal protein L31 gene is a component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit encoded by RPL31 gene, while ribosomal protein L31 (RPL31) is an important constituent of peptidyltransferase center. In our research, the cDNA and the genomic sequence of RPL31 were cloned successfully from the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) using RT-PCR technology respectively, following sequencing and analyzing preliminarily. We constructed a recombinant expression vector contained RPL31 cDNA and over-expressed it in Escherichia coli using pET28a plasmids. The expression product was purified to obtain recombinant protein of RPL31 from the giant panda. Recombinant protein of RPL31 obtained from the experiment acted on human laryngeal carcinoma Hep-2 and human hepatoma HepG-2 cells for study of its anti-cancer activity by MTT [3-(4, 5-dimehyl-2-thiazolyl)-2, 5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide] method. Then observe these cells growth depressive effect. The result indicated that the cDNA fragment of the RPL31 cloned from the giant panda is 419 bp in size, containing an open reading frame of 378 bp, and deduced protein was composed of 125 amino acids with an estimated molecular weight of 14.46-kDa and PI of 11.21. The length of the genomic sequence is 8,091 bp, which was found to possess four exons and three introns. The RPL31 gene can be readily expressed in E.coli, expecting 18-kDa polypeptide that formed inclusion bodies. Recombinant protein RPL31 from the giant panda consists of 157 amino acids with an estimated molecular weight of 17.86 kDa and PI of 10.77. The outcomes showed that the cell growth inhibition rate in a time- and dose-dependent on recombinant protein RPL31. And also indicated that the effect at low concentrations was better than high concentrations on Hep-2 cells, and the concentration of 0.33 µg/mL had the best rate of growth inhibition, 44 %. Consequently, our study aimed at revealing the recombinant protein RPL31 anti-cancer function from the giant panda, providing scientific basis and resources for the research and development of cancer protein drugs anti-cancer mechanism research. Further studies of the mechanism and the signal transduction pathways are in progress.

RESUMEN

On the basis of resistance breeding and selection in laboratory, and by using the threshold trait analysis in quantitative genetics, this paper studied the realized resistance heritability of Panonychus citri (McGregor) collected from Beibei of Chongqing to avermectin and fenpropathrin, and predicted the resistance risk of P. citri to these two acaricides. After 11- and 16-generations of selection with avermectin and fenpropathrin, the resistance of P. citri to the two acaricides increased by 3.8- and 29.9-fold, and the realized resistance heritability was 0.0475 and 0.1544, respectively. Under laboratory condition, to develop a 10-fold increase of resistance required 12-26 generations of selection for avermectin, and 7-16 generations of selection for fenpropathrin under the selection pressure of 50%-90% mortality for each generation. Under field condition, it would require more generations to develop the same resistance level. Comparing with bioacaricide avermectin, pyrethroid fenpropathrin had obviously higher resistance risk to P. citri. The results provided references for the resistance management of P. citri to acaricides.

RESUMEN

Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) and Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) are the two most important long-distance migratory insect pests that cause great yield losses to rice in China. Accurate long-term population forecast is needed to implement effective management strategies for these two rice pests. In this paper, a transition probability matrix of 5-yr steps of Markov chain theory was constructed based on 31-yr light-trapping data of the two pests from 1977 to 2007 in Jiangkou County, Guizhou, China. The weight of each step for the transition probability matrix was calculated according to its prediction accuracy. Insect occurrence levels in the sixth year were predicted based on the occurrences of the previous 5 yr. Nonparametric Wilcoxon paired sample tests showed that there were no significant differences between the actual and predicted occurrences for both N. lugens and S. furcifera. In addition, the models accurately forecasted field occurrence in 2008 in Jinangkou County for both species. The results showed that the Markov models developed in this study offer an effective method for long-term population forecasting of N. lugens and S. furcifera and thus provide plant protection agencies and organizations with valuable information in implementing appropriate management strategies for these two devastating rice pests in Jiangkou and neighboring areas.
