RESUMEN

Highly accurate monthly rainfall predictions can provide early warnings for rain-related disasters, such as floods and droughts, and allow governments to make timely decisions. This paper proposes a two-phase error compensation model based on a gated recurrent unit (GRU), variational mode decomposition (VMD), and error compensation mechanism (ECM) (GRU-VMD-ECM) for accurate multi-step-ahead monthly rainfall forecasts. In the first phase, the GRU model is used to make an initial monthly rainfall prediction, and the error series is extracted. In the second phase, the error series is decomposed into eight subseries using the VMD method. Each subseries is then input into the GRU model to build different forecasting models. These predicted error sequences are added to the initial prediction results to obtain the final forecast. The model's performance is tested using six evaluation indicators based on Beijing's monthly rainfall data from 1951 to 2018. The results show that the error compensation mechanism significantly improved the prediction accuracy, particularly in the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) of single-step-ahead prediction which recorded a substantial increase of 281.16% from 0.259981 to 0.990944, as well as a decrease in root mean square error (RMSE) from 2.257580 to 0.249746. Furthermore, the GRU-VMD-ECM model outperforms the RF, GRU-CNN, and VMD-GRU models in terms of precision across all forecasting horizons. These findings highlight the potential of the GRU-VMD-ECM model in providing highly accurate monthly rainfall predictions for early warnings and informed decision-making by governments.

Aiming at challenges such as the high complexity of the network model, the large number of parameters, and the slow speed of training and testing in cross-view gait recognition, this paper proposes a solution: Multi-teacher Joint Knowledge Distillation (MJKD). The algorithm employs multiple complex teacher models to train gait images from a single view, extracting inter-class relationships that are then weighted and integrated into the set of inter-class relationships. These relationships guide the training of a lightweight student model, improving its gait feature extraction capability and recognition accuracy. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed Multi-teacher Joint Knowledge Distillation (MJKD), the paper performs experiments on the CASIA_B dataset using the ResNet network as the benchmark. The experimental results show that the student model trained by Multi-teacher Joint Knowledge Distillation (MJKD) achieves 98.24% recognition accuracy while significantly reducing the number of parameters and computational cost.

Small-molecule fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) inhibitors have emerged as a promising antitumor therapy. Herein, by further optimizing the lead compound 1 under the guidance of molecular docking, we obtained a series of novel covalent FGFR inhibitors. After careful structure-activity relationship analysis, several compounds were identified to exhibit strong FGFR inhibitory activity and relatively better physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties compared with those of 1. Among them, 2e potently and selectively inhibited the kinase activity of FGFR1-3 wildtype and high-incidence FGFR2-N549H/K-resistant mutant kinase. Furthermore, it suppressed cellular FGFR signaling, exhibiting considerable antiproliferative activity in FGFR-aberrant cancer cell lines. In addition, the oral administration of 2e in the FGFR1-amplified H1581, FGFR2-amplified NCI-H716, and SNU-16 tumor xenograft models demonstrated potent antitumor efficacy, inducing tumor stasis or even tumor regression.

Potatoes play an important role in ensuring food security. During the COVID-19 epidemic, consumption of processed potato products decreased, and consumption of fresh potatoes increased. China is the world's largest potato producer with more than 4.81 million hectares of area under potato production and 90.32 million metric tonnes of potatoes produced in 2018. This accounts for 27.36% of the world's planting area and 24.53% of the world's potato production. The proportion of potatoes processed in China was about 12% in 2017, mostly dominated by starch production. However, the recent policy of the Chinese government to popularise potato as a staple food has created new markets for processed potato products other than starch. A very few reports have analysed these future trends of the rapidly growing Chinese potato processing industry and its impact within and outside China. This paper provides an overview of the latest developments with a focus on processed potato products such as potato chips, French fries and dehydrated potatoes, and also, due to the unique Chinese diet culture, it highlights the need for more scientific research dedicated towards the development of novel potato-based healthy foods.

A comprehensive set of observations were collected along a sea-coast-inland area. According to these observations, the planetary boundary layer heights (PBLH) during winter and summer for sampling locations in sea, coast, and inland areas were 737 m, 483 m and 372 m, and 450 m, 645 m and 646 m, respectively. Little seasonal difference was observed for the daily variation of sensible heat flux over the sea, with the maximum of 55 W/m2 at 12:00 in winter and 27 W/m2 at 13:00 in summer. The duration of sea breeze was ∼10 h in summer and only 3 h in winter, extended to inland area ∼ 50 km and upward 920 m vertically. PM2.5 at coastal area was about 5 µg/m3 higher than inland during summer afternoon. Over the sea, PM2.5 mainly concentrated below 200 m in winter, increased with height at night and decreased with height in the morning below 300 m in summer. A typical land-sea breeze episode was analyzed with observed and simulated result. According to the observed data, the sea breeze extended to inland ∼50 km and upward 300 m vertically. From the simulating result, there was a clear temperature gradient between sea and land from surface to 400 m, when influenced by the sea breeze, the wind and temperature profiles showed different characteristics, and forming a high concentration center of PM2.5 at 300 m. These results provide insights into the structure of land-sea planetary boundary layer, and provide support for the prediction of heavy pollution episode.

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) induces right ventricular cardiomyopathy, a common heart disease, and eventually leads to severe heart failure and serious clinical complications. Accumulating evidence shows that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the pathological process of a variety of cardiovascular diseases. However, the regulatory mechanisms and functional roles of RNA interactions in TR-induced right ventricular cardiomyopathy are still unclear. Accordingly, we performed integrative analyses of genes associated with right ventricular cardiomyopathy induced by TR to study the roles of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of this disease. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing data of tissue samples from nine clinical cases of right ventricular myocardial cardiomyopathy induced by TR and nine controls with normal right ventricular myocardium from the Genotype-Tissue Expression database. We identified differentially expressed lncRNAs and constructed a protein-protein interaction and lncRNA-messenger RNA (mRNA) co-expression network. Furthermore, we determined hub lncRNA-mRNA modules related to right ventricular myocardial disease induced by TR and constructed a competitive endogenous RNA network for TR-induced right ventricular myocardial disease by integrating the interaction of lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA. In addition, we analyzed the immune infiltration using integrated data and the correlation of each immune-related gene with key genes of the integrated expression matrix. The present study identified 648 differentially expressed mRNAs, 201 differentially expressed miRNAs, and 163 differentially expressed lncRNAs. Protein-protein interaction network analysis confirmed that ADRA1A, AVPR1B, OPN4, IL-1B, IL-1A, CXCL4, ADCY2, CXCL12, GNB4, CCL20, CXCL8, and CXCL1 were hub genes. CTD-2314B22.3, hsa-miR-653-5p, and KIF17ceRNA; SRGAP3-AS2, hsa-miR-539-5p, and SHANK1; CERS6-AS1, hsa-miR-497-5p, and OPN4; INTS6-AS1, hsa-miR-4262, and NEURL1B; TTN-AS1, hsa-miR-376b-3p, and TRPM5; and DLX6-AS1, hsa-miR-346, and BIRC7 axes were obtained by constructing the ceRNA networks. Through the immune infiltration analysis, we found that the proportion of CD4 and CD8 T cells was about 20%, and the proportion of fibroblasts and endothelial cells was high. Our findings provide some insights into the mechanisms of RNA interaction in TR-induced right ventricular cardiomyopathy and suggest that lncRNAs are a potential therapeutic target for treating right ventricular myocardial disease induced by TR.

OBJECTIVES: To compare early and long-term outcomes of redo-isolated tricuspid surgery (RITS) after left-sided valve surgery. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 173 patients who underwent RITS for severe tricuspid regurgitation after previous left-sided valve surgery from January 1999 to December 2019. Patients were divided into two groups: RITS by median sternotomy (m-RITS; n = 78) and totally endoscopic approach (e-RITS; n = 95). Perioperative outcomes and follow-up results were analyzed. RESULTS: There were 19 (11%) in-hospital deaths (14.1% in m-RITS and 8.4% in e-RITS, p = .234) that decreased from 16.7% (1999-2014) to 6.9% (2015-2019) (p = .044). Tricuspid valve replacement (odds ratio [OR] = 4.989, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.133-29.790, p = .041) and NYHA function class IV (OR = 9.611, 95% CI: 2.102-43.954, p = .004) were independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality. The overall 1-, 5-, 10-, and 15-year survival rates were 97.2% (95% CI: 94.5%-99.9%), 80.3% (95% CI: 71.7%-88.9%), 59.2% (95% CI: 43.5%-75.5%), and 49.3% (95% CI: 27.2%-71.4%), respectively. CONCLUSION: Patients undergoing RITS carry a high risk of early mortality. There was no significant difference in early mortality or long-term survival between the endoscopy and median sternotomy, whereas the endoscopy approach was associated with shorter intensive care unit stays and fewer reoperations. Repair resulted in lower surgical mortality than replacement with acceptable residual tricuspid regurgitation.

BACKGROUND: The strategy of isolated tricuspid valve surgery has undergone innovations in recent years. This study aimed to summarize our experience using an endoscopic approach to repeat isolated tricuspid valve surgery (RITS) after left-sided valve replacement (LSVR). METHODS: From June 2013 to May 2019, 79 patients underwent endoscopic RITS after LSVR at our institution. Patients were divided into the tricuspid valvuloplasty (TVP) group (N.=49) and the tricuspid valve replacement (TVR) group (N.=30); perioperative outcomes and follow-up results were compared. RESULTS: There were seven postoperative deaths (8.9%). In-hospital mortality was higher in the TVR group than in the TVP group, although this difference was not statistically significant (13.3% vs. 6.1%, P=0.417). More patients experienced residual moderate-to-severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) at discharge in the TVP group than in the TVR group (26.7% vs. 0%, P=0.003). Five patients died from heart, and multiorgan failure during follow-up; the overall 3- and 5-year survival rates were 93.8% [95% confidence interval (CI): (87.1-99.9%)] and 85.3% (95% CI: 73.3-99.2%), respectively, and no significant differences were found between the two groups (P=0.103). The overall rates of the 3- and 5-year freedom from severe recurrent TR were 93.2% (95% CI: 85.9-99.9%) and 89.0% (78.7-99.9%), respectively, and no significant difference was found between groups (P=0.176). CONCLUSIONS: Repeat isolated tricuspid valve surgery after left-sided valve replacement is associated with adverse perioperative outcomes. Endoscopic access offers an alternative approach for RITS after LSVR with acceptable results. TVP results in lower surgical mortality than TVR while carrying a higher risk of residual moderate-to-severe TR.

OBJECTIVES: To explore the safety and efficacy of total thoracoscopic repair of ventricular septal defects (VSD). We compared clinical outcomes of VSD via a total thoracoscopic approach with those of mini-sternotomy. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed clinical data from patients with VSD from 2012 to January 2019. According to the surgical pattern, they were divided into two groups: the total thoracoscopic surgery group (36 patients, 27 females, aged 29 ± 9.52 years), and a mini-sternotomy group (31 patients, 12 females, aged 28 ± 8.67 years). RESULTS: There were no deaths in either group. In the thoracoscopic group, cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time and aortic cross-clamping (ACC) time were significantly longer than those of the mini-sternotomy group (CPB time: 112 ± 23.16 min vs. 78 ± 37.90 min, respectively, p < .001; ACC time: 65 ± 19.94 min vs. 50 ± 24.90 min, respectively, p < .001). postoperative hospital stay time (5.11 ± 2.48 days vs. 5.90 ± 6.27 days, p = .488) and chest drainage (139.86 ± 111.71 ml vs. 196.13 ± 147.34 ml, p = .081) tended to be lower in the thoracoscopy group, although there was no significant difference. No residual shunt or tricuspid regurgitation was found at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Total thoracoscopic repair is safe and effective in patients with VSD, with or without tricuspid regurgitation.

RESUMEN

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are key signaling molecules that play an important role in the inflammation and progression of many diseases such as cardiovascular disease, especially atherosclerosis. ROS are in particular a significant factor in the development of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases such as allergies. In this study, novel Fe3O4/CeO2 core-shell theranostic nanoparticles capable of reacting with ROS and of being detected by MRI were synthesized and thoroughly characterized. In vitro studies, such as measurement of cell uptake, magnetic resonance imaging, toxicity and ROS scavenging, were conducted. The results indicate that the novel Fe3O4/CeO2 theranostic nanoparticles are effective for scavenging ROS and show excellent magnetic resonance (MR) imaging performance. These theranostic nanomaterials, therefore, show great potential for the treatment and diagnosis of ROS-related inflammatory diseases.
