RESUMEN

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to determine whether post-Alberta Stroke Project Early CT Changes Score (post-ASPECTS) in anterior stroke and post-(posterior circulation) PC-ASPECTS in posterior stroke on CT can predict post-endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) functional outcomes among patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after EVT. Patients and Methods: A total of 247 consecutive patients aged 18 and over receiving EVT for LVO-related AIS were recruited into a prospective database. The data was retrospectively analyzed between March 2019 and February 2022 from two comprehensive tertiary care stroke centers: Foshan Sanshui District People's Hospital and First People's Hospital of Foshan in China. Patient parameters included EVT within 24 hr of symptom onset, premorbid modified Rankin scale (mRS) ≤2, presence of distal and terminal cerebral blood vessel occlusion, and subsequent 24-72-hr post-stroke onset CT scan. Univariate comparisons were performed using the Fisher's exact test or χ2 test for categorical variables and the Mann-Whitney U-test for continuous variables. Logistic regression analysis was performed to further analyze for adjusting for confounding factors. A p-value of ≤0.05 was statistically significant. Results: Overall, 236 individuals with 196 anterior circulation ischemic strokes and 40 posterior strokes of basilar artery occlusion were examined. Post-ASPECTS in anterior stroke and post-pc-ASPECTS as strong positive markers of favorable outcome at 90 days post-EVT; and lower rates of inpatient mortality/hospice discharge, 90-day mortality, and 90-day poor outcome were observed. Moreover, patients in the post-ASPECTS ≥ 7 cohort experienced shorter door-to-recanalization time (DRT), puncture-to-recanalization time (PRT), and last known normal-to-puncture time (LKNPT). Conclusion: Post-ASPECTS ≥7 in anterior circulation AIS and post-pc-ASPECTS ≥7 in posterior circulation can serve as strong prognostic markers of functional outcome after EVT.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To examine the protective effects of Isoliquiritigenin (ISL) in angiotensin II (ANG II)-induced inflammation and fibrosis on Human Tenon's capsule Fibroblasts (HTFs) and Mouse Peritoneal Macrophages (MPMs). This study also investigated the potential mechanism of action of ISL. METHOD: Methyl-thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay was used to test ISL toxicity. An ELISA and an RT-qPCR assay detected the inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, COX-2, and ICAM-1). A Western blot investigated the expression levels of inflammation-related signals [nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ)], and fibrogenesis, including fibronectin and alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA)]. Protein expressions of α-SMA were measured by immunofluorescence. RESULTS: Pre-treatment with ISL (10 or 20 µM) dose-dependently decreased the mRNA levels of TNF-α, IL-6, ICAM-1, and COX-2 induced by ANG II (1 µg/ml) in both MPMs and HTFs. ANG II remarkably increased the amount of P65 in the nuclei and decreased the amount of P65 in the cytoplasm. Additionally, ANG II reduced PPARγ expression levels in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, these effects which were induced by ISL were remarkably neutralized by ISL pre-treatment. Finally, ANG II markedly elevated the expression of fibronectin and α-SMA. CONCLUSION: ISL could alleviate ANG II-induced fibrogenesis by inhibiting the NF-κB/PPARγ inflammatory pathway. In addition, ISL may be a potential agent for the treatment of conjunctival fibrosis. Most importantly, the NF-κB/PPARγ signaling pathway could be an effective therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of conjunctival fibrosis after glaucoma surgery.

RESUMEN

Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from pure water is successfully realized by using interstitial P-doped CdS with rich S vacancies (CdS-P) as the photocatalyst in the absence of any electron sacrificial agents. Through interstitial P doping, the impurity level of S vacancies is located near the Fermi level and becomes an effective electron trap level in CdS-P, which can change dynamic properties of photogenerated electrons and thus prolong their lifetimes. The long-lived photogenerated electrons are able to reach the surface active sites to initiate an efficient photocatalytic redox reaction. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of CdS-P can be further improved through the loading of CoP as a cocatalyst.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Design a convenient and stable eye refractometer based on the theory of blur circle. METHODS: Analyze the retinal blur circle in both Emsly reduced eye model and Liou & Brennan 1997 eye model by ZEMAX. Design the coefficients including PD (pupil diameter) and NO' (length between node point and fovea) with the purpose of improving the accuracy. At last, compare the clinical optometry data from this refractor with the data obtained from optometry hospital in Wenzhou. RESULTS: The blur circle diameters are nearly the same in both reduced eye model and the Liou & Brennan 1997 eye model. With the PD = 4 mm and NO' = 20 mm, the refractor shows a fine accuracy in optometry. The paired t test shows that the myopia group and the astigmatism axial direction group have no statistical difference between the data from the blur circle refractor and the hospital (P > 0.05), while the astigmatism degree group has the result of P = 0.41 which may be caused by the poor cooperation of pediatric patients. 80% of the astigmatism degree data differ from the data from the hospital in less than 0.75D. CONCLUSION: The blur circle refractor, with the features of convenience and fine accuracy, is promised to be a new style of refractometer in the future.
