RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on sexual satisfaction have been emphasized in many studies. However, there is not much information about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sexual satisfaction of healthcare professionals. In addition, it is not known exactly how vaccination application affects sexual satisfaction. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate whether the sexual satisfaction of male health personnel would change with vaccination. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and two unvaccinated and 95 vaccinated male healthcare professionals participated in this study. The COVID-19 Phobia Scale (C19P-S) and The New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS) were administered to the participants. RESULTS: We did not detect any difference in sexual satisfaction according to vaccine administration. However, we found significant relationships between COVID-19 anxiety and sexual satisfaction. On the other hand, age, fear of COVID-19, and previous COVID-19 infection story were predictive factors on sexual satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on sexual satisfaction are multifaceted. Our findings indicate that fear of COVID-19, rather than vaccination, determines sexual satisfaction.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Cryptocurrencies are a popular investment tool today. However, some studies highlight the investing behavior of cryptocurrencies similar to pathological gambling. Investing behavior becomes risky when it is not based on proper and adequate analysis and carries the possibility of big losses as well as big gains. For this reason, we aimed to determine the potential risky investor profile by age, gender, personality traits and impulsivity levels. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Six hundred and fifty-four cryptocurrencies investors (529 was male, 125 was female, their mean age was 35.6 ± 9.0) participated in this study between June 2022 - August 2022. Participants were administered the Sociodemographic Data Form, the South OAKS Gambling Screen Test - revised (SOGS-r), the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11). RESULTS: We found higher neuroticism and impulsivity in possible problematic crypto investors. In addition, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness scores were lower. Additionally, in our regression analyzes we found that younger age and male gender predicted SOGS-r scores. After controlling for age and gender, extraversion negatively and motor impulsivity positively predicted SOGS-r scores. DISCUSSION: Investing in cryptocurrencies can become a behavioral addiction, similar to pathological gambling. It is important to identify profiles in which investment behavior is risky. CONCLUSION: Personality traits and impulsivity may have a significant impact on identifying risky crypto investors and in the treatment process.

RESUMEN

Background Organic and psychological causes are intertwined in the etiology of sexual dysfunction (SD). Another important point, as well as the importance of etiology in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions, is understanding people's approaches to the problem. This study was planned to investigate whether there is a relationship between self-esteem and body perception levels of patients with sexual dysfunction and preferential applications to urology or psychiatry outpatient clinics. Methodology The study included 125 patients who sought treatment at urology and psychiatry outpatient clinics and were diagnosed with erectile dysfunction (ED) or premature ejaculation (PE) as a result of clinical evaluation. Sociodemographic data forms, the International Erectile Function Index (IIEF-6), the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), the Body Image Questionnaire (BIQ), and the Self-Esteem Rating Scale (SERS), were administered to the patients. Results When the patients were evaluated according to their complaints, there was no difference between the groups in body image or self-esteem. However, when the preferential admissions were evaluated through outpatient clinics, the self-esteem and body perception levels were high in the patients who applied primarily to the psychiatry outpatient clinic (p = 0.032, p = 0.046). Conclusion Psychological factors may affect male sexual dysfunctions in treatment admissions. It is important that andrology and psychiatry doctors work in cooperation in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions.

RESUMEN

Background: It is difficult to predict functional and aesthetic results and provide patient satisfaction after rhinoplasty. Objective: To investigate the effect of nasal obstruction, body appreciation, and acceptance of cosmetic surgery (ACS) in predicting patient satisfaction postrhinoplasty. Methods: We prospectively included 97 consecutive participants who underwent rhinoplasty. We recorded age, gender, marital status, education, and body mass index (BMI), and nasal obstruction symptom evaluation (NOSE) scale, body appreciation scale-2 (BAS-2), acceptance of cosmetic surgery scale (ACSS), and rhinoplasty outcome evaluation (ROE) scale were determined preoperatively and at the 3-month postoperative follow-up. Results: The preoperative and postoperative NOSE, BAS-2, ACSS, and ROE scores differed significantly. The mean ROE score improved from 36.8 preoperatively to 82.1 postoperatively. The ROEpostop score was not correlated significantly with age, BMI, ACSSpreop, BAS-2postop, or ACCSpostop. The BAS-2preop scores were correlated significantly with ACCSpreop and ACSSpostop scores. The NOSEpreop and BAS-2preop scores were significant predictors of the ROEpostop scores in the regression analysis. Conclusion: Preoperative nasal obstruction and body appreciation, but not ACS, are factors that might affect patient satisfaction after rhinoplasty.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Increased depression and anxiety incidence in infertile individuals treated with assisted reproductive techniques have been shown in studies. Postoperative pain perception after testicular sperm extraction (TESE) is thought to be related to preoperative anxiety in non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) and twenty male patients with normal karyotype NOA planned for TESE under local anaesthesia due to azoospermia were included in the study. Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T and STAI-S) inventory was given to all patients 1 h before surgery. Postoperative pain evaluation was performed at 0, 30, 60 and 120 min with visual analogue scale (VAS). STAI-T inventory was given to the patients again 2 h after the procedure. RESULTS: Preoperative STAI-S and STAI-T scores and postoperative STAI-T scores of patients in the KS group were higher than those in the NOA group, and there was a significant difference in the statistical analysis between the two groups (p < 0.001). In the postoperative VAS scores, there was no statistical difference at the 0 and 120th min (p = 0.56 and p = 0.87, respectively); at the 30, 60 and 90th min there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups, especially in patients in the KS group (p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION: The contribution of anxiety to pain perception should be kept in mind in azoospermic male patients before TESE, and additional measures should be taken considering that this may be experienced at a higher level in KS patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy is an important public health problem. AIMS: Identifying and understanding COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy may aid future public health messaging. This study, in which we planned to study the determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, aims to reveal the relationship between "intolerance of uncertainty," "belief in conspiracy theories," and "COVID-19 phobia" with vaccine hesitancy. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study conducted during a COVID-19 outbreak. Participants were reached via various social media platforms and e-mailing lists for convenience. Data were collected with an online survey using SurveyMonkey application. "Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12)," "Conspiracy Mentality Scale (CMS)," and "COVID-19 Phobia Scale" were applied to 488 participants. Statistical significance level was considered p < 0.05. RESULTS: Four hundred eighty-eight people between the ages of 18 and 65 participated. Twenty-one participants were excluded from the analysis due to random marking and unreasonable filling times (< 10 min). In this way, analyzes were made with 467 people. We found a positive correlation between the belief in conspiracy theories and vaccine hesitancy (p < 0.05). And also found that individuals with low fear of COVID-19 would hesitate about vaccination (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Vaccine hesitancy is an important public health problem, and it puts public health at risk, especially during the epidemic period we live in. Therefore, it is important to understand the psychological factors involved in vaccine hesitancy. It would be useful to look for ways to spread accurate information about the vaccine in a healthier way in this case.

RESUMEN

Obesity is a health problem that can exacerbate the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS). In the current study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a short-term exercise program on fatigue, depression, anxiety, and walking performance in normal-weight and overweight patients with MS (PwMS). Sixty-two PwMS were divided into groups according to their BMI (BMI normal/BMI high). Also, they were all included in the exercise program. The participants took a moderate-intensity walking program 5 days a week for 4 weeks, including 30 min between 5 min of warm-up and 5 min of cooling periods. Also, patients underwent breathing, posture, flexibility, and stretching exercises for 4 weeks. Fatigue, depression, anxiety, 6-minute walking test (6MWT), and BMI were measured before and after the 4 weeks. After the exercise program, there were statistically significant improvements in fatigue, depression, anxiety, and the 6MWT. However, no relation could be detected between the examined variables and BMI. All patients participated effectively in the exercise program, regardless of BMI. The results obtained from this study support that a short-term exercise program is an effective therapeutic intervention, unrelated to BMI, in improving fatigue, depression, anxiety, and walking performance in PwMS.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: In previous studies, the relationship between career choice and psychological factors has been discussed many times. On the other hand, we have less information about interaction between early maladaptive schemas and career choice. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We planned to evaluate the specialty preferences of doctors in the perspective of schema theory. Doctors from the 2 to 10 years of their careers were included in the study. A Sociodemographic data form and Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form 3 was applied to 275 participants; 167 clinical specialties and 108 surgical specialties. RESULTS: According to our results surgeons scored higher in emotional deprivation, mistrust / abuse, social isolation / alienation, defectiveness / shame, and emotional inhibition. As schema domains, surgeons scored higher disconnection and rejection and excessive responsibility and standards. CONCLUSIONS: Early maladaptive schemas can affect the choice of profession and the ability to adapt. Understanding early maladaptive schemas can play a role both in orientation towards the right career choice and in resolving negative factors related to the work environment.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study aimed to reveal a process model of the relations between automatic thoughts, dysfunctional attitudes, social problem-solving skills, and social media addiction. In this context, the aim was to investigate the mediating effect of automatic thoughts and social problem-solving skills in the relationship between intermediate beliefs and social media addiction. Methods: This study included 56 male and 107 female young adults aged 18-25 years who were referred to the psychiatry outpatient clinic of Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey. The participants completed sociodemographic data form, social problem-solving inventory revised form, social media addiction scale, dysfunctional attitudes scale short form, and automatic thoughts questionnaire. In the data analysis, the effect and mediation were tested by the process method. Results: Dysfunctional attitudes positively affected social media addiction and automatic thoughts and negatively affected social problem solving. According to this, the effect of dysfunctional attitudes on social media addiction was mediated by automatic thoughts and social problem solving. Conclusion: In this sense, both cognitive and behavioral processes can be useful in the treatment of social media addiction, and cognitive behavioral therapies can be an effective option.

RESUMEN

Background: The relationship between entertainment preferences and personality traits has previously been addressed in a few studies. However, there are no studies evaluating this relationship within the scope of the schema theory. We planned to evaluate the relationship between early maladaptive schemas (EMS) and music and movie preferences. In this study, the research team created a survey on the 8 most preferred film and music categories in social media platforms in Turkey. Methods: A sociodemographic data form and the Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form 3 were applied to 389 participants. Our findings emphasize the relationship between EMS, schema domains, and entertainment preferences. Results: In particular, we found significant effects of the Disconnection and Rejection, Impaired Autonomy and Performance, and Impaired Limits schema domains. Even after controlling for age and gender, we found interesting relationships. Conclusion: Early maladaptive schemas have important effects on entertainment preferences. A better understanding of these relationships can provide us with more information on the reflections of personality on daily life.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between the physical problems of children with CP and caregiving burden and the emotional expression characteristics of caregivers. METHODS: The study included 144 caregivers of child with cerebral palsy and Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) and Expressed Emotion Scale (EES) will be applied to the caregivers who will participate in the study. Disease severity of children with cerebral palsy will be evaluated by the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) in children with cerebral palsy. Communication Function Classification System (CFCS) will be used to examine the communication of children with their families. RESULTS: Accordingly, a positive, statistically significant, moderate correlation was found between the GMFCS, MACS, and CFCS scores and ZBI scores in patients with cerebral palsy (r ~ 0.50; p < 0.01). In this study, a positive, statistically significant but weak correlation was found between GMFCS, MACS, and CFCS scores and EES scores in patients with cerebral palsy (r ~ 0.30; p < 0.01). A statistically significant, moderate correlation was found between ZBI and EES (r ~ 0.50; p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: According to the results of our study, as motor skills and communication skills decrease, especially the burden of caregivers increases and the family's emotional expression processes are related to these variables. We think that in the long-term follow-up of children with CP, it may be useful to provide appropriate psychiatric support by evaluating caregivers appropriately.
