RESUMEN

The association between leukemic stem cells (LSCs) and leukemia development has been widely established in the context of genetic alterations, epigenetic pathways, and signaling pathway regulation. Hematopoietic stem cells are at the top of the bone marrow hierarchy and can self-renew and progressively generate blood and immune cells. The microenvironment, niche cells, and complex signaling pathways that regulate them acquire genetic mutations and epigenetic alterations due to aging, a chronic inflammatory environment, stress, and cancer, resulting in hematopoietic stem cell dysregulation and the production of abnormal blood and immune cells, leading to hematological malignancies and blood cancer. Cells that acquire these mutations grow at a faster rate than other cells and induce clone expansion. Excessive growth leads to the development of blood cancers. Standard therapy targets blast cells, which proliferate rapidly; however, LSCs that can induce disease recurrence remain after treatment, leading to recurrence and poor prognosis. To overcome these limitations, researchers have focused on the characteristics and signaling systems of LSCs and therapies that target them to block LSCs. This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the types of hematopoietic malignancies, the characteristics of leukemic stem cells that cause them, the mechanisms by which these cells acquire chemotherapy resistance, and the therapies targeting these mechanisms.

Although a diversity of religions exists in South Korea, with Buddhism and Christianity (Protestantism and Catholicism) being the two main faiths, Korean beliefs are deeply rooted in Confucianism. Despite the notion that the Confucian norm of filial piety discourages body donation to medical science, there has been a mindset shift in favor of body donation, driven by a heightened awareness of the body bequest programs and the care and dignity accorded to the altruistic body donors, together with the institution of commemorative services to honor them. As spirituality and religion are known to be factors that influence body donation, how religious- and non-religious-based memorial services are held to honor the donors as exemplified by two Korean medical schools-from a public university with no religious affiliation and from a Protestant-based university-are described here. The key concept of expressing gratitude and respect for the donors and their family members has positively impacted body bequest programs in this multi-religious society. Commemorative services held to pay tribute to the altruistic body donors may play an important role in inspiring a humanistic spirit in students, regardless of religious or non-religious beliefs, as exemplified by the two Korean medical schools. The takeaway here is that the elevation of spirituality in memorial services effectively resonates with society, thereby demonstrating the impact of spiritual principles independent of religious influence.

Cancer vasculogenesis is a pivotal focus of cancer research and treatment given its critical role in tumor development, metastasis, and the formation of vasculogenic microenvironments. Traditional approaches to investigating cancer vasculogenesis face significant challenges in accurately modeling intricate microenvironments. Recent advancements in three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting technology present promising solutions to these challenges. This review provides an overview of cancer vasculogenesis and underscores the importance of precise modeling. It juxtaposes traditional techniques with 3D bioprinting technologies, elucidating the advantages of the latter in developing cancer vasculogenesis models. Furthermore, it explores applications in pathological investigations, preclinical medication screening for personalized treatment and cancer diagnostics, and envisages future prospects for 3D bioprinted cancer vasculogenesis models. Despite notable advancements, current 3D bioprinting techniques for cancer vasculogenesis modeling have several limitations. Nonetheless, by overcoming these challenges and with technological advances, 3D bioprinting exhibits immense potential for revolutionizing the understanding of cancer vasculogenesis and augmenting treatment modalities.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) lacks disease-modifying drugs or sustainable interventions, creating an unmet treatment need. Investigating complementary and alternative medicines aims to improve PD patients' quality of life by alleviating symptoms and delaying the course of the disease. Objectives: In this single-center, prospective, observational, single-arm study, we aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture combined with exercise therapy and the Meridian Activation Remedy System (MARS). Methods: From March to October 2021, 13 PD patients with Hoehn and Yahr stages 1 to 3 were recruited. For 8 weeks, MARS intervention was carried out twice a week. T-statistics were used to evaluate functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and GAITRite outcomes. All of the remaining outcome variables were evaluated using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The MARS intervention significantly reduced PD patients' Movement Disorder Society-Sponsored Revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDSUPDRS) Part III score (from 20.0 ± 11.8 to 8.8 ± 5.5, p = 0.003), 10-meter walk test speed (from 9.5 ± 1.8 to 8.7 ± 1.3 seconds, p = 0.040), and timed up and go time (from 9.8 ± 1.8 to 8.9 ± 1.4 seconds, p = 0.040). Moreover, the MDS-UPDRS Part II, fNIRS hemodynamics, 360-degree turn test, fall efficacy scale, and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire 39 scores improved but not significantly. All participants completed the 8-week intervention without any adverse reactions. Conclusion: An 8-week MARS intervention improved motor symptoms in PD patients. In particular, improvements in UPDRS Part III scores exhibited large clinically important differences. The findings are encouraging, and a randomized controlled trial will be conducted to determine the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of MARS intervention.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the symptomatic response and side effects of ventriculolumbar perfusion (VLP) methotrexate chemotherapy with a low perfusion rate in patients with leptomeningeal metastasis. METHODS: Patients in a single-arm, two-stage phase II trial based on Simon's minimax design received VLP with a reduced (15 cc/h) perfusion rate with the purpose of decreasing constitutional side effects such as nausea/vomiting, insomnia, and confusion. The primary outcome was control of increased intracranial pressure (ICP). The secondary outcome was an occurrence of side effects. The results were compared with those of a previous trial of VLP with a 20-cc/h perfusion rate. RESULTS: Total 90 patients were enrolled. Out of 65 patients with increased ICP, 32 achieved normalized ICP after VLP chemotherapy (bias-adjusted response rate = 51%). The incidence of moderate-to-severe nausea/vomiting was reduced to 46% from 64% in the previous study, and that of sleep disturbance was increased to 13% from 9%, but both failed to reach statistical significance. The incidence of moderate-to-severe confusion was significantly reduced to 12% from 23% in the previous study (p = 0.04). Median overall survival was better among patients with controlled ICP than among those who remained with increased ICP (193 days vs. 94 days, p = 0.013). CONCLUSION: Compared with a higher perfusion rate, the low perfusion rate failed to provide non-inferior ICP control or improved side effects, except for confusion. The relationship between VLP perfusion rate and ICP control needs to be evaluated in future trials adjusting for bias from uncompleted protocol due to poor general condition.

Prolonged thymic involution results in decreased thymopoiesis and thymic output, leading to peripheral T-cell deficiency. Since the thymic-dependent pathway is the only means of generating fully mature T cells, the identification of strategies to enhance thymic regeneration is crucial in developing therapeutic interventions to revert immune suppression in immunocompromised patients. The present study clearly shows that fish collagen peptides (FCPs) stimulate activities of thymic epithelial cells (TECs), including cell proliferation, thymocyte adhesion, and the gene expression of thymopoietic factors such as FGF-7, IGF-1, BMP-4, VEGF-A, IL-7, IL-21, RANKL, LTß, IL-22R, RANK, LTßR, SDF-1, CCL21, CCL25, CXCL5, Dll1, Dll4, Wnt4, CD40, CD80, CD86, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, FoxN1, leptin, cathepsin L, CK5, and CK8 through the NF-κB signal transduction pathway. Furthermore, our study also revealed the cytoprotective effects of FCPs on TECs against cyclophosphamide-induced cellular injury through the NF-κB signaling pathway. Importantly, FCPs exhibited a significant capability to facilitate thymic regeneration in mice after cyclophosphamide-induced damage via the NF-κB pathway. Taken together, this study sheds light on the role of FCPs in TEC function, thymopoiesis, and thymic regeneration, providing greater insight into the development of novel therapeutic strategies for effective thymus repopulation for numerous clinical conditions in which immune reconstitution is required.

A versatile hydrogel was developed for enhancing bioactive wound healing by introducing the amphiphilic GHK peptide (GHK-C16) into a photo-crosslinkable tyramine-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-Ty). GHK-C16 self-assembled into GHK nanofibers (GHK NF) in HA-Ty solution, which underwent in situ gelation after the wound area was filled with precursor solution. Blue light irradiation (460-490 nm), with riboflavin phosphate as a photoinitiator, was used to trigger crosslinking, which enhanced the stability of the highly degradable hyaluronic acid and enabled sustained release of the nanostructured GHK derivatives. The hydrogels provided a microenvironment that promoted the proliferation of dermal fibroblasts and the activation of cytokines, leading to reduced inflammation and increased collagen expression during wound healing. The complexation of Cu2+ into GHK nanofibers resulted in superior wound healing capabilities compared with non-lipidated GHK peptide with a comparable level of growth factor (EGF). Additionally, nanostructured Cu-GHK improved angiogenesis through vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activation, which exerted a synergistic therapeutic effect. Furthermore, in vivo wound healing experiments revealed that the Cu-GHK NF/HA-Ty hydrogel accelerated wound healing through densely packed remodeled collagen in the dermis and promoting the growth of denser fibroblasts. HA-Ty hydrogels incorporating GHK NF also possessed improved mechanical properties and a faster wound healing rate, making them suitable for advanced bioactive wound healing applications. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: By combining photo-crosslinkable tyramine-modified hyaluronic acid with self-assembled Cu-GHK-C16 peptide nanofibers (Cu-GHK NF), the Cu-GHK NF/HA-Ty hydrogel offers remarkable advantages over conventional non-structured Cu-GHK for wound healing. It enhances cell proliferation, migration, and collagen remodeling-critical factors in tissue regeneration. The incorporation of GHK nanofibers complexed with copper ions imparts potent anti-inflammatory effects, promoting cytokine activation and angiogenesis during wound healing. The Cu-GHK NF/hydrogel's unique properties, including in situ photo-crosslinking, ensure high customization and potency in tissue regeneration, providing a cost-effective alternative to growth factors. In vivo experiments further validate its efficacy, demonstrating significant wound closure, collagen remodeling, and increased fibroblast density. Overall, the Cu-GHK NF/HA-Ty hydrogel represents an advanced therapeutic option for wound healing applications.

In this study, an Al-Mn-Zr alloy was designed and its microstructure and corrosion behavior compared after laser welding to that of AA3003. As the results of immersion and electrochemical tests showed, both alloys had a faster corrosion rate in the fusion zone than in the base metal. Laser welding caused interdendritic segregation, and spread the intermetallic compounds (IMCs) evenly throughout in the fusion zone. This increased the micro-galvanic corrosion sites and destabilized the passive film, thus increasing the corrosion rate of the fusion zone. However, Zr in the Al-Mn alloy reduced the size and number of IMCs, and minimized the micro-galvanic corrosion effect. Consequently, Al-Mn-Zr alloy has higher corrosion resistance than AA3003 even after laser welding.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent cancer worldwide, ranking as the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The presence or absence of lymph node metastases is one of the representative markers for predicting CRC prognosis, but often yields heterogeneous results. In this study, we conducted an integrative molecular analysis of CRC using publicly available data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database and NCBI's Gene Expression Omnibus. Through our analysis, we identified 372 upregulated genes that were differentially expressed in CRC patients. Additionally, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis revealed five significant pathways, including Hippo, FC-gamma, and forkhead box O signaling pathways, which are known to be associated with cancer. Survival analysis of 28 genes involved in these pathways led to the identification of 13 genes with prognostic significance (P < 0.05). To validate our findings, logistic regression models were generated and tested in multiple cohorts, demonstrating significant accuracy. Moreover, we identified six genes (BNIP3, CD63, RDX, RGCC, WASF1, and WASF3) whose combination predicted the best prognosis based on survival analysis. This predictive model holds promise as a potential biomarker for prognosis, survival, and treatment efficacy. In conclusion, our study provides valuable insights into the molecular characteristics of CRC and identifies prognostic biomarkers. The combination of differentially expressed genes and their involvement in cancer-related pathways enhances our understanding of CRC pathogenesis and opens avenues for personalized treatment approaches and improved patient outcomes.

In order to predict the corrosion depth of a district heating pipeline, it is necessary to analyze various corrosion factors. In this study, the relationship between corrosion factors such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and operating time and corrosion depth was investigated using the Box-Behnken method within the response surface methodology. To accelerate the corrosion process, galvanostatic tests were conducted in synthetic district heating water. Subsequently, a multiple regression analysis was performed using the measured corrosion depth to derive a formula for predicting the corrosion depth as a function of the corrosion factors. As a result, the following regression formula was derived for predicting the corrosion depth: "corrosion depth (µm) = -133 + 17.1 pH + 0.00072 DO + 125.2 Time - 7.95 pH × Time + 0.002921 DO × Time".

Oxidative stress plays a critical role in the development of liver disease, making antioxidants a promising therapeutic approach for the prevention and management of liver injuries. The aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of kaempferol, an antioxidant flavonoid found in various edible vegetables, and its underlying mechanism in male Sprague-Dawley rats with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver damage. Oral administration of kaempferol at doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg body weight resulted in the amelioration of CCl4-induced abnormalities in hepatic histology and serum parameters. Additionally, kaempferol decreased the levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, TNF-α and IL-1ß, as well as COX-2 and iNOS. Furthermore, kaempferol suppressed nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) p65 activation, as well as the phosphorylation of Akt and mitogen-activated protein kinase members (MAPKs), including extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase, and p38 in CCl4-intoxicated rats. In addition, kaempferol improved the imbalanced oxidative status, as evidenced by the reduction in reactive oxygen species levels and lipid peroxidation, along with increased glutathione content in the CCl4-treated rat liver. Administering kaempferol also enhanced the activation of nuclear factor-E2-related factor (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 protein, as well as the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Overall, these findings suggest that kaempferol exhibits antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective effects through inhibiting the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway and activating the AMPK/Nrf2 signaling pathway in CCl4-intoxicated rats.

The nanoscale spatiotemporal resolution of single-particle tracking (SPT) renders it a powerful method for exploring single-molecule dynamics in living cells or tissues, despite the disadvantages of using traditional organic fluorescence probes, such as the weak fluorescent signal against the strong cellular autofluorescence background coupled with a fast-photobleaching rate. Quantum dots (QDs), which enable tracking targets in multiple colors, have been proposed as an alternative to traditional organic fluorescence dyes; however, they are not ideally suitable for applying SPT due to their hydrophobicity, cytotoxicity, and blinking problems. This study reports an improved SPT method using silica-coated QD-embedded silica nanoparticles (QD2), which represent brighter fluorescence and are less toxic than single QDs. After treatment of QD2 in 10 µg/mL, the label was retained for 96 h with 83.76% of labeling efficiency, without impaired cell function such as angiogenesis. The improved stability of QD2 facilitates the visualization of in situ endothelial vessel formation without real-time staining. Cells retain QD2 fluorescence signal for 15 days at 4 °C without significant photobleaching, indicating that QD2 has overcome the limitations of SPT enabling long-term intracellular tracking. These results proved that QD2 could be used for SPT as a substitute for traditional organic fluorophores or single quantum dots, with its photostability, biocompatibility, and superior brightness.

The loss of endothelial cells is associated with the accumulation of monocytes/macrophages underneath the surface of the arteries, where cells are prone to mechanical stimulation, such as shear stress. However, the impact of mechanical stimuli on monocytic cells remains unclear. To assess whether mechanical stress affects monocytic cell function, we examined the expression of inflammatory molecules and surface proteins, whose levels changed following shear stress in human THP-1 cells. Shear stress increased the inflammatory chemokine CCL2, which enhanced the migration of monocytic cells and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)- 1ß at transcriptional and protein levels. We identified that the surface levels of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), HSP90, and HSP105 increased using mass spectrometry-based proteomics, which was confirmed by western blot analysis, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence. Treatment with HSP70/HSP105 and HSP90 inhibitors suppressed the expression and secretion of CCL2 and monocytic cell migration, suggesting an association between HSPs and inflammatory responses. We also demonstrated the coexistence and colocalization of increased HSP90 immunoreactivity and CD68 positive cells in atherosclerotic plaques of ApoE deficient mice fed a high-fat diet and human femoral artery endarterectomy specimens. These results suggest that monocytes/macrophages affected by shear stress polarize to a pro-inflammatory phenotype and increase surface protein levels involved in inflammatory responses. The regulation of the abovementioned HSPs upregulated on the monocytes/macrophages surface may serve as a novel therapeutic target for inflammation due to shear stress.

In mammals, photic information delivered to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) via the retinohypothalamic tract (RHT) plays a crucial role in synchronizing the master circadian clock located in the SCN to the solar cycle. It is well known that glutamate released from the RHT terminals initiates the synchronizing process by activating ionotropic glutamate receptors (iGluRs) on retinorecipient SCN neurons. The potential role of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) in modulating this signaling pathway has received less attention. In this study, using extracellular single-unit recordings in mouse SCN slices, we investigated the possible roles of the Gq/11 protein-coupled mGluRs, mGluR1 and mGluR5, in photic resetting. We found that mGluR1 activation in the early night produced phase advances in neural activity rhythms in the SCN, while activation in the late night produced phase delays. In contrast, mGluR5 activation had no significant effect on the phase of these rhythms. Interestingly, mGluR1 activation antagonized phase shifts induced by glutamate through a mechanism that was dependent upon CaV1.3 L-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs). While both mGluR1-evoked phase delays and advances were inhibited by knockout (KO) of CaV1.3 L-type VGCCs, different signaling pathways appeared to be involved in mediating these effects, with mGluR1 working via protein kinase G in the early night and via protein kinase A signaling in the late night. We conclude that, in the mouse SCN, mGluR1s function to negatively modulate glutamate-evoked phase shifts.

BACKGROUND: Autoencoder (AE) is one of the deep learning techniques that uses an artificial neural network to reconstruct its input data in the output layer. We constructed a novel supervised AE model and tested its performance in the prediction of a co-existence of the disease of interest only using diagnostic codes. METHODS: Diagnostic codes of one million randomly sampled patients listed in the Korean National Health Information Database in 2019 were used to train, validate, and test the prediction model. The first used AE solely for a feature engineering tool for an input of a classifier. Supervised Multi-Layer Perceptron (sMLP) was added to train a classifier to predict a binary level with latent representation as an input (AE + sMLP). The second model simultaneously updated the parameters in the AE and the connected MLP classifier during the learning process (End-to-End Supervised AE [EEsAE]). We tested the performances of these two models against baseline models, eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) and naïve Bayes, in the prediction of co-existing gastric cancer diagnosis. RESULTS: The proposed EEsAE model yielded the highest F1-score and highest area under the curve (0.86). The EEsAE and AE + sMLP gave the highest recalls. XGB yielded the highest precision. Ablation study revealed that iron deficiency anemia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, essential hypertension, gastric ulcers, benign prostate hyperplasia, and shoulder lesion were the top 6 most influential diagnoses on performance. CONCLUSION: A novel EEsAE model showed promising performance in the prediction of a disease of interest.

BACKGROUND: Digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI), which detects infrared rays emitted from body surface to create a body heat map, has been utilized at various musculocutaneous conditions. Notably, DITI can demonstrate autonomic vasomotor activity in the nerve-innervated area, and thus may be of use in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). In this study, we compared DITI findings before and after carpal tunnel release (CTR) surgery in patients with unilateral CTS to investigate the corresponding neurophysiological changes. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, DITI parameters such as the temperature differences between the median and ulnar nerve territories and median nerve-innervated digital anisometry were measured. Subjective symptom duration, pain scale, and ultrasonographic findings were also compared before and after CTR. Patients were evaluated before and 6 weeks after CTR, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 27 patients aged 59.0 ± 11.2 years were finally included. After CTR, median nerve-innervated thermal anisometry was improved (2.55 ± 0.96 °C to 1.64 ± 1.34 °C; p = 0.003). The temperature differences between the median and ulnar nerve territories were not significantly changed. Subjective pain, the Simovic Weinberg Clinical Scale, and palmar bowing of the flexor retinaculum were also significantly improved (p <  0.001 for all comparisons). CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that DITI findings could reflect an improvement in autonomic function after CTR. Therefore, DITI can be an objective method to assess pre- and post-operative neurophysiologic changes in CTS.

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is an important, modifiable risk factor in the pathophysiology of arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation (AF). The purpose of the study was to evaluate cardiac electrophysiologists' (EPs) perception of OSAS. METHODS: We designed a 27-item online Likert scale-based survey instrument entailing several domains: (1) relevance of OSAS in EP practice, (2) OSAS screening and diagnosis, (3) perception on treatments for OSAS, (4) opinion on the OSAS care model. The survey was distributed to 89 academic EP programs in the USA and Canada. While the survey instrument questions refer to the term sleep apnea (SA), our discussion of the diagnosis, management, and research on the sleep disorder is more accurately described with the term OSAS. RESULTS: A total of 105 cardiac electrophysiologists from 49 institutions responded over a 9-month period. The majority of respondents agreed that sleep apnea (SA) is a major concern in their practice (94%). However, 42% reported insufficient education on SA during training. Many (58%) agreed that they would be comfortable managing SA themselves with proper training and education and 66% agreed cardiac electrophysiologists should become more involved in management. Half of EPs (53%) were not satisfied with the sleep specialist referral process. Additionally, a majority (86%) agreed that trained advanced practice providers should be able to assess and manage SA. Time constraints, lack of knowledge, and the referral process are identified as major barriers to EPs becoming more involved in SA care. CONCLUSIONS: We found that OSAS is widely recognized as a major concern for EP. However, incorporation of OSAS care in training and routine practice lags. Barriers to increased involvement include time constraints and education. This study can serve as an impetus for innovation in the cardiology OSAS care model.

Background@#Autoencoder (AE) is one of the deep learning techniques that uses an artificial neural network to reconstruct its input data in the output layer. We constructed a novel supervised AE model and tested its performance in the prediction of a co-existence of the disease of interest only using diagnostic codes. @*Methods@#Diagnostic codes of one million randomly sampled patients listed in the Korean National Health Information Database in 2019 were used to train, validate, and test the prediction model. Jaeumgeonbi-Tang (JGT), a traditional herbal medicine, has been used to treat dizziness and vertigo in Korea and China for hundreds of years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological properties of JGT in chronic subjective dizziness (CSD) patients. A randomized, double-blind, parallel-group and placebo-controlled trial was performed with a total of 50 CSD patients. The patients were randomly assigned to one of two groups: JGT or placebo (n = 25 for each). All participants received the treatment (placebo or JGT, 24 g/day) for 4 weeks. We analyzed the serum levels of oxidative stressors, antioxidants, and stress hormones. Serum levels of lipid peroxidation, but not nitric oxide, were significantly decreased in the JGT group. JGT not only prevented the decline of serum total glutathione contents and total antioxidant capacity, but it also increased superoxide dismutase and catalase activities. Serum levels of stress hormones including cortisol, adrenaline, and serotonin were notably normalized by JGT treatment, but noradrenaline levels were not affected. Regarding the safety and tolerability of JGT, we found no allergic, adverse, or side effects in any of the participants. JGT showed beneficial effects on CSD patients by improving redox status and balancing psycho-emotional stress hormones.

Soil corrosion is always a critical concern to corrosion engineering because of the economic influence of soil infrastructures as has been and has recently been the focus of spent nuclear fuel canisters. Besides corrosion protection, the corrosion prediction of the canister is also important. Advanced knowledge of the corrosion rate of spent nuclear fuel canister material in a particular environment can be extremely helpful in choosing the best protection method. Applying machine learning (ML) to corrosion rate prediction solves all the challenges because of the number of variables affecting soil corrosion. In this study, several algorithms of ML, including series individual, boosting, bagging artificial neural network (ANN), series individual, boosting, bagging Chi-squared automatic interaction detection (CHAID) tree decision, linear regression (LR) and an ensemble learning (EL) merge the best option that collects from 3 algorithm methods above. From the performance of each model to find the model with the highest accuracy is the ensemble stacking method. Mean absolute error performance matrices are shown in Fig. 15. Besides applying ML, the significance of the input variables was also determined through sensitivity analysis using the feature importance criterion, and the carbon steel corrosion rate is the most sensitive to temperature and chloride.
