RESUMEN

The nowadays generally forgotten Klinik am Weidenplan in Halle/Saale was a pioneering site in German urology. It was mainly shaped by Otto Kneise and Martin Stolze. Starting from a private department the clinic developed into a large urological hospital. In the nearly 100 years of its existence, numerous famous expert representatives emerged from it. In 1958, Martin Stolze became the first tenured professor for urology in the then DDR (German Democratic Republic) and shortly afterwards the Weidenplanklinik temporarily was a university clinic for urology in Germany.

RESUMEN

The routine use of cystoscope initiated the development of the modern urology. Otto Kneise (1875-1953) extended the targets of cystoscopy by including examinations of the male bladder and prostate. He achieved the goal that "cystoscopy is part of general work in urology and not a pure gynecological act". He, thus, founded the specialty gynecological urology in the field urology, which prevented it from becoming an independent field. Under the leadership of Otto Kneise, the first independent urology department in Germany was created in the hospital Heilanstalt Weidenplan.

RESUMEN

Under certain conditions genuine coral calculi are an absolute offication for nephrotomy. In order to achieve complete hygienization of the cavity ischaemia times of more than 25-30 min are often necessary. Controlled surface cooling proved to be very good for improving ischaemia tolerance and reducing post-ischaemic loss of function in 21 necessary nephrotomies out of a total of 651 operations for concrements in the calyx system of the renal pelvis (= 3.2%; = 32.8% of all nephrotomies). A kidney thermometer with a temperature feeler developed by us allows fine control of the hypothermia induced by means of plastic bags filled with ice crystals. The technique of operation together with its advantages and disadvantages are described.

RESUMEN

Multiple biopsies of the mucous and submucous membranes were taken from 50 patients with definitive diversion of urine using the large intestine and evaluated. The varying behaviour of the membranes in connection with uretero- sigmoidostomies , cysto- sigmoidostomies and rectal bladders is discussed. The reactions of the mucous membrane in connection with uretero-intestinal anastomosis are time-dependent. The most serious changes in the mucous membrane occurred in connection with rectal bladders.

RESUMEN

On the basis of follow-up examinations in 96 patients with diversion of urine, the effects of urinary stasis on serum electrolytes and the acid-alkali balance are demonstrated and discussed. Early correction of urinary stasis is necessary in order to avoid any impairment of the distal functioning of the tubules and the collecting tubes. The special position of serum chloride in any diversion of urine is demonstrated.

RESUMEN

The results of 48 transperitoneal, bilateral lymphadenectomies are analysed. In stage I and II we achieved a 2-year survival time of 85.2%. The operative approach is described. The findings in patients without response to the therapy are emphasized and discussed.
