RESUMEN

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) presents a substantial challenge to women's physiological and psychological well-being. Hormone replacement therapy, as the preferred therapeutic approach, involves solely exogenous supplementation of estrogen. Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese external treatment, has been investigated in our previous studies. It not only improves hormone levels and clinical symptoms in POI patients but also safeguards ovarian reserve. This study aims to explore the regulatory mechanisms by which moxibustion modulates hormone levels and restores ovarian function in POI. A POI rat model was established using cyclophosphamide, and moxibustion treatment was applied at acupoints "CV4" and "SP6" for a total of four courses. Subsequently, ovaries from each group were subjected to transcriptome sequencing (Bulk RNA-seq). Target pathways and key genes were selected through enrichment analysis and GSVA scoring, with validation using various techniques including electron microscopy, ELISA, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. The results demonstrated that moxibustion restored the estrous cycle in POI rats, improved sex hormone levels, reduced the number of atretic follicles, and increased the count of dominant follicles (P<0.05). Bulk RNA-seq analysis revealed that moxibustion downregulated pathways associated with ovarian dysfunction, infertility, and immune responses, upregulated pathways related to follicular development and ovarian steroidogenesis. Furthermore, our data confirmed that moxibustion significantly increased the number of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) and upregulated the expression of proteins related to steroidogenesis in GCs, including FSHR, P450 arom, cAMP, PKA, and CREB (P<0.05), with no significant effect observed on proteins related to steroidogenesis in theca cells. These outcomes aligned with the RNA-seq results. In conclusion, these findings propose that moxibustion enhances steroidogenesis in GCs through the activation of the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway, consequently improving impaired ovarian function in POI rats. This study provides robust evidence supporting moxibustion as a targeted intervention for treating POI by specifically regulating steroidogenesis in GCs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Patients with functional anorectal pain (FAP) usually feel pain in the anal region, foreign body sensation, and defecation disorders. The pain may radiate to the perineum, thighs, and waist. Conventional biofeedback, local nerve block and surgical treatment have certain limitations. Thread-embedding acupuncture (TEA) is a complementary and alternative therapy, which is widely used in the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine to treat functional anorectal pain. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the catgut-embedding acupuncture in patients with FAP. METHODS: FAP patients were enrolled and randomly divided into a thread-embedding acupuncture group (n = 35) and a sham-embedding acupuncture control group (n = 36). Patients underwent treatment twice monthly for 2 months and were assessed before and after treatments for visual analogue scales (VAS) of anorectal pain, VAS of lumbar pain or soreness, VAS of abdominal distension or pain, anal incontinence index, and SF-36 quality of life. The SF-36 quality of life score included assessment of physical functioning, role-physical, bodily-pain, general health, role-emotional, social functioning, vitality, and mental health. RESULT: The total effective rate was 85.71% for the treatment group versus 8.33% of the controls after 2 months (P < .001). The patients' anal rectum VAS score was significantly higher after treatment versus pretreatment (P < .01), while the physical functioning, role-physical, bodily-pain, role-emotional, and mental health in the experimental group and the role-emotional, and mental health in the control group were all significantly improved versus pretreatment (P < .05). The anorectal VAS score, anal incontinence index, and the SF-36 scores of the physical functioning, role-physical, bodily-pain, role-emotional, and mental health were better in the treatment group compared to the control group (P < .05). Most importantly, there were no adverse reactions observed in either group during the treatment. CONCLUSION: The thread-embedding acupuncture treatment effectively and safely improved the emotional anxiety and quality of life in FAP patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians for sarcopenia. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with sarcopenia were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. In the control group, conventional nutrition intervention for sarcopenia was adopted. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment in the control group, acupuncture was applied at bilateral Binao (LI 14), Quchi (LI 11), Zusanli (ST 36), Yanglingquan (GB 34), etc.,ipsilateral Quchi (LI 11) and Zusanli (ST 36) were connected to electroacupuncture, with discontinuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency, 1-10 mA in intensity, 2 times a week, with a interval of 3 days. A total of 12-week treatment was required in the two groups. Before and after treatment, the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), grip strength, 6 m-walking time, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage were observed in the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with those before treatment, after treatment, ASMI and grip strength were increased while 6 m-walking time was shortened in the two groups (P<0.05); body fat percentage was decreased while body moisture percentage was increased in the observation group (P<0.05). After treatment, in the observation group, ASMI, grip strength and body moisture percentage were increased (P<0.05), 6 m-walking time was shortened and body fat percentage was decreased (P<0.05) compared with those in the control group. CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians can effectively improve the skeletal muscle mass, muscle function, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage in patients with sarcopenia, and make the distribution of muscle and fat more reasonable.

RESUMEN

Developing non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) by modifying the backbone, side chains and end groups is the most important strategy to improve the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells (OSCs). Among numerous developed NFAs, Y6 and its derivatives are famous NFAs in the OSC field due to their good performance. Herein, in order to understand the mechanism of tuning the photovoltaic performance by modifying the Y6's center backbone, π-spacer and side-chains, we selected the PM6:Y6 OSC as a reference and systematically studied PM6:AQx-2, PM6:Y6-T, PM6:Y6-2T, PM6:Y6-O, PM6:Y6-1O and PM6:Y6-2O OSC systems based on extensive quantum chemistry calculations. The results indicate that introducing quinoxaline to substitute thiadiazole in the backbone induces a blue-shift of absorption spectra, reduces the charge transfer (CT) distance (Δd) and average electrostatic potential (ESP), and increases the singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔEST), CT excitation energy and the number of CT states in low-lying excitations. Inserting thienyl and dithiophenyl as π spacers generates a red-shift of absorption spectra, enlarges Δd and average ESP, and reduces ΔEST and the number of CT states. Introducing furo[3,2-b]furan for substituting one thieno[3,2-b]thiophene unit in the Y6's backbone causes a red-shift of absorption spectra and increases ΔEST, Δd and average ESP as well as CT excitation energy. Introducing alkoxyl as a side chain results in a blue-shift of absorption spectra, and increases ΔEST, Δd, average ESP, CT excitation energy and the number of CT states. The rate constants calculated using Marcus theory suggest that all the molecular modifications of Y6 reduce the exciton dissociation and charge recombination rates at the heterojunction interface, while introducing furo[3,2-b]furan and alkoxyl enlarges CT rates.

RESUMEN

Orthorhombic Ca2CO4 is a recently discovered orthocarbonate whose high-pressure physical properties are critical for understanding the deep carbon cycle. Here, we study the structure, elastic and seismic properties of Ca2CO4-Pnma at 20-140 GPa using first-principles calculations, and compare them with the results of CaCO3 polymorphs. The results show that the structural parameters of Ca2CO4-Pnma are in good agreement with the experimental results. It could be the potential host of carbon in the Earth's mantle subduction slab, and its low wave velocity and small anisotropy may be the reason why it cannot be detected in seismic observation. The thermodynamic properties of Ca2CO4-Pnma at high temperature and high pressure are obtained using the quasi-harmonic approximation method. This study is helpful in understanding the behavior of Ca-carbonate in the Earth's lower mantle conditions.

RESUMEN

The physical properties of Mg-carbonate at high temperature and pressure are crucial for understanding the deep carbon cycle. Here, we use first-principles calculations to study the physical properties of MgCO3-C2/m and Mg2CO4-P21/c under high pressure. The research shows that the structure and equation of state of MgCO3-C2/m are in good agreement with the experimental results, and the phase transition pressure of Mg2CO4 from pnma to P21/c structure is 44.66 GPa. By comparing the elastic properties, seismic properties and anisotropy of MgCO3-C2/m and Mg2CO4-P21/c, it is found that the elastic modulus and sound velocity of Mg2CO4-P21/c are smaller than those of MgCO3-C2/m, while the anisotropy is larger than that of MgCO3-C2/m. These results indicate that Mg2CO4-P21/c exists in the deep mantle and may be the main reason why carbonate cannot be detected. The minimum thermal conductivity of MgCO3-C2/m and Mg2CO4-P21/c is the largest in the [010] direction and the smallest in the [001] direction. The thermodynamic properties of MgCO3-C2/m and Mg2CO4-P21/c are predicted using the quasi-harmonic approximation (QHA) method.

RESUMEN

ß-Amino carbonyl substructures are privileged motifs in natural products and active pharmaceutical compounds. Here, we report a photoinduced metal-free and highly regioselective intermolecular carboimination method via the simultaneous introduction of amino and carbonyl groups into the CC double bond in one step, providing straightforward, green and general access to both ß-amino acid and ß-amino ketone motifs from readily available alkene feedstocks. The mild reaction conditions, excellent functional group tolerance and product diversity should make this a broadly applicable carboimination approach of very broad interest to organic and medicinal chemists.

RESUMEN

We report the design and synthesis of a redox-active thianthrenium-containing sulfoximination reagent. Photo-catalyzed acetoxysulfoximination of styrene with various functional groups is described. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that the sulfoximination reagent (2aa) received a single electron transfer (SET) from the photo-excited Ir(ppy)3 catalyst to produce a sulfoximidoyl radical as a key intermediate in this transformation.

RESUMEN

The first-principles calculations based on density functional theory with projector-augmented wave are used to study the anisotropy of elastic modulus, mechanical hardness, minimum thermal conductivity, acoustic velocity and thermal expansion of magnesite (MgCO3) under deep mantle pressure. The calculation results of the phase transition pressure, equation of state, elastic constants, elastic moduli, elastic wave velocities and thermal expansion coefficient are consistent with those determined experimentally. The research results show that the elastic moduli have strong anisotropy, the mechanical hardness gradually softens with increasing pressure, the conduction velocity of heat in the [100] direction is faster than that in the [001] direction, the plane wave velocity anisotropy first increases and then gradually decreases with increasing pressure, and the shear wave velocity anisotropy increases with the increase of pressure, the thermal expansion in the [100] direction is greater than that in the [001] direction. The research results are of great significance to people's understanding of the high-pressure physical properties of carbonates in the deep mantle.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy and safety among three different entry points of needle knife, including tenderness point, intervertebral foramen point and articular process node, for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). METHODS: A total of 105 patients with LDH were randomly divided into a tenderness point group (35 cases, 1 case dropped off ), an intervertebral foramen point group (35 cases) and an articular process node group (35 cases, 1 case dropped off ). In the three groups, the needle knife was given at positive tenderness points of lumbosacral and hip, the external point of intervertebral foramen and the node of vertebral joint process respectively, once a week for a total of 4 times. The scores of Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA), Oswestry disability index (ODI), visual analogue scale (VAS) were recorded before treatment, 2 weeks and 4 weeks into treatment, and 3 months follow-up after treatment, and the clinical efficacy and safety was observed. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the JOA scores in each group were increased 2, 4 weeks into treatment and in the follow-up (P<0.05); 4 weeks into treatment and in the follow-up, the JOA scores in the tenderness point group and the articular process node group were higher than those in the intervertebral foramen point group (P<0.05). Compared before treatment, except for ODI score 2 weeks into treatment in the intervertebral foramen point group, the ODI and VAS scores in each group were decreased 2, 4 weeks into treatment and in the follow-up (P<0.05), and the ODI scores in the tenderness point group and the articular process node group were lower than those in the intervertebral foramen point group (P<0.05). In 2 weeks into treatment, the VAS scores in the tenderness point group and the articular process node group were lower than those in the intervertebral foramen point group (P<0.05); in 4 weeks into treatment and follow-up, the VAS scores in the tenderness point group were lower than the other two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the clinical efficacy of each group was similar (P>0.05); during the follow-up, the total effective rate in the tenderness point group was higher than that in the intervertebral foramen point group (P<0.05). There were no serious adverse events in each group. CONCLUSION: The three different entry points of needle knife all could improve the symptoms of patients with LDH. The comprehensive effect of improving the subjective symptoms, lumbar function, pain degree and long-term curative effect is better in the tenderness point group.

RESUMEN

Molecular engineering plays a critical role in the development of electron donor and acceptor materials for improving power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic photovoltaics (OPVs). The halogenated acceptor materials in OPVs have shown high PCE. Here, to investigate the halogenation mechanism and the effects on OPV performances, based on the density functional theory calculations with the optimally tuned screened range-separated hybrid functional and the consideration of solid polarization effects, we addressed the halogenation effects of acceptor ITIC, which were modeled by bis-substituted ITIC with halogen and coded as IT-2X (X = F, Cl, Br), and PBDB-T:ITIC, PBDB-T:IT-2X (X = F, Cl, Br) complexes on their geometries, electronic structures, excitations, electrostatic potentials, and the rate constants of charge transfer, exciton dissociation (ED), and charge recombination processes at the heterojunction interface. The results indicated that halogenation of ITIC slightly affects molecular geometric structures, energy levels, optical absorption spectra, exciton binding energies, and excitation properties. However, the halogenation of ITIC significantly enlarges the electrostatic potential difference between the electron acceptor and donor PBDB-T with the order from fluorination and chlorination to bromination. The halogenation also increases the transferred charges of CT states for the complexes. Meanwhile, the halogenation effects on CT energies and electron process rates depend on different haloid elements. No matter which kinds of haloid elements were introduced in the halogenation of acceptors, the ED is always efficient in these OPV devices. This work provides an understanding of the halogenation mechanism, and is also conducive to the designing of novel materials with the aid of the halogenation strategy.

RESUMEN

This study was performed to compare the effectiveness of acupotomy based on the meridian-sinew theory with acupotomy based on the anatomical theory in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). A total of 124 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized into the meridian-sinew (MS) group (63 patients) and anatomy group (61 patients). In the MS group, acupotomy based on the meridian-sinew theory was performed. In the anatomy group, acupotomy based on anatomy was applied. Patients were subgrouped by TCM Constitutions. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index and visual analog scale (VAS) were used to evaluate treatment effectiveness. The results showed that VAS (F = 22.61, p < 0.01) and WOMAC (F = 24.84, p < 0.01) scores declined with time, and there was no significant difference between the two groups nor subgroups (Yang deficiency subgroup, Yin-Yang harmony subgroup, and the subgroup of the others). A total of 5 patients reported 6 cases of the minor adverse effect, and all patients achieved complete recovery without medical intervention. This study indicates that the effectiveness and safety of acupotomy based on the meridian-sinew theory are equivalent to that of acupotomy based on anatomy in KOA treatment.

RESUMEN

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a clinical term used to describe a condition in which women present with amenorrhoea, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, and infertility under 40 years old, which are mainly characterized by ovarian granulosa cell inflammation and death. Pyroptosis is a proinflammatory form of programmed cell death. However, the roles of pyroptosis in POF and moxibustion (Mox) on pyroptosis in POF have not been elucidated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of moxibustion against cyclophosphamide- (CP-) induced POF and to determine the underlying mechanisms. The results indicated that Mox could decrease the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteotropic hormone (LH) and increase estradiol (E2) in serum, which indicated that it could improve ovarian reserve capacity. Mox also ameliorated CP-induced ovarian injury accompanied by decreased levels of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), IL-18, and gasdermin D (GSDMD), which are key features of pyroptosis. Further investigation showed that Mox alleviated POF through NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis. On the one hand, Mox directly inhibited TXNIP/NLRP3/caspase-1 signaling-induced pyroptosis, and on the other hand, it indirectly decreased NLRP3, pro-IL-1ß, and pro-IL-18 through inhibiting TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling. Our results show that Mox might be a new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of POF.

RESUMEN

Transient ischemic attack (TIA), an important risk factor for stroke, is associated with widespread disruptions of functional brain architecture. However, TIA-related structural alterations are not well established. By analyzing structural MRI data from 50 TIA patients versus 40 healthy controls (HCs), here we systematically investigated TIA-related morphological alterations in multiple cortical surface-based indices (cortical thickness [CT], fractal dimension [FD], gyrification index [GI], and sulcal depth [SD]) at multiple levels (local topography, interregional connectivity and whole-brain network topology). For the observed alterations, their associations with clinical risk factors and abilities as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers were further examined. We found that compared with the HCs, the TIA patients showed widespread morphological alterations and the alterations depended on choices of morphological index and analytical level. Specifically, the patients exhibited: (a) regional CT decreases in the transverse temporal gyrus and lateral sulcus; (b) impaired FD- and GI-based connectivity mainly involving visual, somatomotor and ventral attention networks and interhemispheric connections; and (c) altered GI-based whole-brain network efficiency and decreased FD-based nodal centrality in the middle frontal gyrus. Moreover, the impaired morphological connectivity showed high sensitivities and specificities for distinguishing the patients from HCs. Altogether, these findings demonstrate the emergence of morphological index-dependent and analytical level-specific alterations in TIA, which provide novel insights into neurobiological mechanisms underlying TIA and may serve as potential biomarkers to help diagnosis of the disease. Meanwhile, our findings highlight the necessity of using multiparametric and multilevel approaches for a complete mapping of cerebral morphology in health and disease.

RESUMEN

Binge eating disorder (BED) is a common dietary disorder among obese people. Obesity and eating disorders are related to mental health and physical health. At present, there is no definite and effective method for treatment in clinic. The curative effect of electroacupuncture on obesity is definite. Although there is no conclusive evidence to support its long-term benefits, electroacupuncture has been increasingly used in clinic. This retrospective study determined the prognosis and outcome of electro-acupuncture on obese patients with BED.One hundred forty-three patients with BED and obesity were found from 658 people who participated in the scientific experiment of obesity treatment in Nanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nanjing Brain Hospital from March 2015 to June 2018, and 84 patients (aged 18-40 years old) with valid data and uninterrupted treatment were found to be eligible for this retrospective study. According to the intervention methods, the patients were divided into electro-acupuncture combined with cognitive group (n = 32), cognitive therapy group (n = 28), and control group (n = 24). In this study, the 5th edition of Diagnosis and Statistics Manual of Mental Diseases, fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, body fat rate, muscle mass, visceral index grade, nutrient intake (energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate), body weight, and weight changes before and after treatment were observed.Compared with the cognitive therapy group, negative emotion score, TC, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, waist circumference, BW, BMI, body fat percentage of the electroacupuncture combined with cognitive group were lower, while positive emotional scores were higher, and there were significant differences in negative emotional scores, TC, waist circumference and BMI (P < .05). The dietary energy and three major nutrients in the electroacupuncture combined with cognitive group were lower than those in the cognitive group and the blank group (P < .05).The current results suggest that electroacupuncture combined with cognitive therapy is more effective than cognitive therapy alone in treating obese patients with BED. Future prospective studies are necessary to further study the mechanism of electroacupuncture on the obese with BED.

RESUMEN

Single component molecular dyad donor-acceptor junction is an important type of organic solar cells. Understanding the optoelectronic properties of molecular dyad plays the critical role to develop active layer materials for such kind of solar cells. Here, diathiafulvalene-functionalized diketopyrrolopyrrole-fullerene (DFDPP-Ful) was selected as the representative system, and the geometries, electronic structures and excitation properties of DFDPP-Ful monomer and dimer were systematically investigated based on extensive quantum chemistry calculations. The transition configurations and molecular orbitals show that the effective electron donor and acceptor are DFDPP and fullerene moieties, respectively. It also found the light harvesting is dominated by local excitation in DFDPP moiety. Meanwhile, the hybridization and quasi-degeneration between charge transfer (CT) and local excitation exist. The dimer data suggest that the increased excited states contribute to the expanding of absorption spectra, and the excitations exhibit both the intermolecular and intra-molecular CTs. Also, the remarkable CT energy differences among the different dimer models for the lowest CT excited states support the strong interface and energy disorder in such system. Therefore, the suggestions for developing molecular dyad of single component organic solar cells would be the combination of increasing light absorption, enhancing CT and local excitation hybridization, as well as suppressing energy and interface disorder by the aid of molecular design.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical therapeutic effect of light and heat of moxibustion for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS: A total of 216 patients with KOA were randomized into a traditional moxibustion group (72 cases, 8 cases dropped off), a moxibustion light group (72 cases, 9 cases dropped off) and a moxibustion heat group (72 cases, 10 cases dropped off). The special light-heat separation moxibustion cup was applied, the patients in the traditional moxibustion group received the treatment of moxibustion, the patients in the moxibustion light group received the treatment of moxibustion light and the patients in the moxibustion heat group received the treatment of moxibustion heat. The acupoint selection of the three groups was Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Dubi (ST 35) and Zusanli (ST 36), the treatment was given 20 min each time, 3 times a week, 4 weeks were required totally, and the follow-up surveys were made 4 and 8 weeks after treatment. The scores of Western Ontario and McMaster University osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were observed before treatment, after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment, 4 and 8 weeks after treatment. The therapeutic effects were evaluated according to the criterion of patient global assessment (PGA) after 4 weeks of treatment and 8 weeks after treatment. RESULTS: Compared with before treatment, the pain scores, stiffness scores, physical function scores and total scores of WOMAC were reduced after 2, 4 weeks of treatment and 4 weeks after treatment in the three groups (P<0.05). The pain scores, stiffness scores, physical function scores and total scores of WOMAC were reduced 8 weeks after treatment in the traditional moxibustion group and the moxibustion heat group (P<0.05). The stiffness score, physical function score and total score of WOMAC were reduced 8 weeks after treatment in the moxibustion light group (P<0.05). The pain score, physical function score and total score of WOMAC in the traditional moxibustion group after 4 weeks of treatment were lower than the moxibustion light group (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the VAS scores were reduced after 2, 4 weeks of treatment and 4 , 8 weeks after treatment in the three groups (P<0.05). The improvement rates in the traditional moxibustion group and the moxibustion heat group after 4 weeks of treatment and 8 weeks after treatment were superior to the moxibustion light group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The light and heat of moxibustion have therapeutic effect for KOA, and the therapeutic effect of moxibustion heat is superior to moxibustion light.

RESUMEN

Due to the role of dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), designing novel dye sensitizers is an effective strategy to improve the power conversion efficiency. To this end, the fundamental issue is understanding the sensitizer's trilateral relationship among its molecular structure, optoelectronic properties, and photovoltaic performance. Considering the good performance of N-annulated perlyene dye sensitizers, the geometries, electronic structures, and excitations of the selected representative organic dye sensitizers C276, C277, and C278 as well as dyes adsorbed on TiO2 clusters were calculated in order to investigate the relationship between molecular structures and properties. It was found that fusing thienyl to N-annulated perlyene can elevate the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy, reduce the orbital energy gap, increase the density of states, expand the HOMO to the benzothiadiazole moiety, enhance the charge transfer excitation, elongate the fluorescence lifetime, amplify the light harvesting efficiency, and induce a red-shift of the absorption spectra. The transition configurations and molecular orbitals of the dye-adsorbed systems support that the electron injection in DSSCs based on these dyes is a fast mode. Based on extensive analysis of the electronic structures and excitation properties of these dye sensitizers and the dye-adsorbed systems, we present new quantities as open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current density descriptors that celebrate the quantitative bridge between the photovoltaic parameters and the electronic structure-related properties in order to expose the relationship between properties and performance. The results of this work are critical for the design of novel dye sensitizers for solar cells.

RESUMEN

In human-computer interaction, it is important to accurately estimate the hand pose, especially fingertips. However, traditional approaches to fingertip localization mainly rely on depth images and thus suffer considerably from noise and missing values. Instead of depth images, stereo images can also provide 3-D information of hands. There are nevertheless limitations on the dataset size, global viewpoints, hand articulations, and hand shapes in publicly available stereo-based hand pose datasets. To mitigate these limitations and promote further research on hand pose estimation from stereo images, we build a new large-scale binocular hand pose dataset called THU-Bi-Hand, offering a new perspective for fingertip localization. In the THU-Bi-Hand dataset, there are 447k pairs of stereo images of different hand shapes from ten subjects with accurate 3-D location annotations of the wrist and five fingertips. Captured with minimal restriction on the range of hand motion, the dataset covers a large global viewpoint space and hand articulation space. To better present the performance of fingertip localization on THU-Bi-Hand, we propose a novel scheme termed bi-stream pose-guided region ensemble network (Bi-Pose-REN). It extracts more representative feature regions around joints in the feature maps under the guidance of the previously estimated pose. The feature regions are integrated hierarchically according to the topology of hand joints to regress a refined hand pose. Bi-Pose-REN and several existing methods are evaluated on THU-Bi-Hand so that benchmarks are provided for further research. Experimental results show that our Bi-Pose-REN has achieved the best performance on THU-Bi-Hand.
