RESUMEN

Ophiocordyceps sinensis is an entomogenous fungus, and its wildlife resource is very insufficient, as it is widely traded as a natural health product. The artificial culture of O. sinensis is a remarkably effective progress in addressing the problem. Adding microorganisms may improve the process of artificial culture. To analyse the composition and function of the microbial community, high-throughput sequencing was used to explore the microbial community inhabiting wild and artificial O. sinensis and surrounding soil. Significant differences in the microbial communities across groups were revealed by the PCoA analysis. There were 51 fungal and 598 bacterial operational taxonomic units only being assigned to the fruiting bodies of wild O. sinensis (Wf) by the Venn diagram. From the LEfSe analysis, 39 fungal taxa and 75 bacterial taxa were enriched in Wf. Enzymes that were highly abundant in the core fungi were involved in physiological metabolic processes. Metabolic pathways were dominated in the core bacteria, followed by environmental information processing. The core microorganisms, with the marked differences between Wf and the other three groups, were essential for wild O. sinensis. Functional analysis verified their involvement in the growth, development, and infection of O. sinensis. These core microorganisms may be a valuable resource for the artificial culture of O. sinensis.(AU)

Hydrogen, the smallest element, easily forms bonds to host/dopant atoms in semiconductors, which strongly passivates the original electronic characteristics and deteriorates the final reliability. Here, we demonstrate a concept of unidirectional elimination of hydrogen from semiconductor wafers as well as electronic chips through a giant local electric field induced by compact chloridions. We reveal an interactive behavior of chloridions, which can rapidly approach and take hydrogen atoms away from the device surface. A universal and simple technique based on a solution-mediated three-electrode system achieves efficient hydrogen elimination from various semiconductor wafers (p-GaN, p-AlGaN, SiC, and AlInP) and also complete light emitting diodes (LEDs). The p-type conductivity and light output efficiency of H-eliminated UVC LEDs have been significantly enhanced, and the lifetime is almost doubled. Moreover, we confirm that under a one-second irradiation of UVC LEDs, bacteria and COVID-19 coronavirus can be completely killed (>99.93%). This technology will accelerate the further development of the semiconductor-based electronic industry.

A fungus-insect complex, known as DongChong XiaCao, is formed from the infection of the hepialid larvae by the fungus Ophiocordyceps sinensis, which is endemic to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). Due to previously limited sample collection size, the data about the diversity and structure of the host insect was insufficient and lacked details. The purpose of this study was aimed to discuss the diversity and phylogeography of the host insects of O. sinensis with a large-scale sampling. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene (cox1) was sequenced and analyzed among 710 samples representing 88 geographic locations. 205 haplotypes of cox1 were identified from all the 710 samples and 4 phylogenetic clades with 12 subclades were identified. Instead of the single latitude-based divergence suggested previously, three distribution patterns were deduced to correspond to the phylogeographic structures, including but not limited to the co-existence of a wide and specific local phylogeographic distribution structures. Two separate genetic diversity and differentiation centers, namely the northwestern Yunnan and the southeastern Tibet were identified. Dating analyses from three calibrations supported that the divergence of the 4 clades occurred in the Oligocene-Miocene period (30.54-13.66 million years ago) (Ma), which were connected with the second and third geological movements of the QTP (17-25, 8-13 Ma). Our results provide a more detailed understanding of the divergence and distribution patterns of the host insects of O. sinensis.

This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological, clinical, and virologic characteristics of avian influenza A (H7N9) confirmed cases from two family clusters in Southeast China. Epidemiological data of the H7N9 confirmed cases and their close contacts were obtained through interviews and reviews of medical records. Of the four patients in these two family clusters, two cases had mild symptoms, one had severe symptoms, and one died. Three of the four patients had a history of exposure to live poultry or contaminated environments. The complete genome sequences of the H7N9 viruses from the same family cluster were highly homologous, and the four isolated viruses from the two family clusters exhibited the virologic features of the H7N9 virus, in terms of transmissibility, pathogenicity, host adaptation, and antiviral drug resistance. In addition, our findings indicated that the A/Fujian/18/2015 viral strain contained an additional hemagglutinin G225D substitution, which preferentially binds α2,6-linked sialic acids. The results of this study demonstrate that one family cluster was infected through common exposure to live poultry or contaminated environments, and the other was more likely to be infected through the human-to-human route.

In our research, 16 sets of primers were used to amplify contiguous, overlapping segments of the complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Odontobutis obscura. The aim of our research was to provide some important genetic background information for conservational practice of these valuable fish species. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 16 864 bp and deposited in the GenBank with accession numbers KT438552. The gene arrangement and transcriptional direction were similar to other bony fishes which contained 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA, and 22 transfer RNAs) and a major non-coding control region. The nucleotide skewness for the coding strands of O. obscura (GC-skew = -0.26) is biased toward G and the negative GC-skew ranges from -0.51(ND2) to -0.24(CO1). The phylogenetic analysis showed that the Gobiiformes could be divided into three groups, Eleotridae, Odontobutidae and Rhyacichthyidae. The O. Obscura and O. Potamophila are sister species and clustered together.

In our research, the complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Hemiculter bleekeri was obtained from the dorsal myotome of the fish. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 16,617 bp and deposited in GenBank with accession number KU198332. The gene arrangement was similar to other bony fishes, which contained 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNAs) and a major non-coding control region. The mtDNA may provide some important genetic background information of this valuable fish. The G contents was relatively low in the total mtDNA with the GCskewthinsp;= -0.22. The negative GC-skew ranging from -0.51(ATP8) to -0.19(CO1), and the more positive AT-skew varying from -0.26(ATP8) to -0.03(CO1). The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that H. Bleekeri was clustered together with Hemiculter leucisculus, which could be a sister species.

The iridium-catalyzed highly enantioselective hydrogenation of alpha-aryloxy and alpha-alkoxy-substituted alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids was developed. By using chiral spiro phosphino-oxazoline ligands, the hydrogenation proceeded smoothly to produce various alpha-aryloxy- and alpha-alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acids with extremely high enantioselectivities (ee up to 99.8%) and reactivities (TON up to 10,000) under mild conditions. The hydrogenation of alpha-benzyloxy-substituted alpha,beta-unsaturated acids provided an efficient alternative for the synthesis of chiral alpha-hydroxy acids after an easy deprotection. A mechanism involving a catalytic cycle between Ir(I) and Ir(III) was proposed on the basis of the coordination model of the unsaturated acids with the iridium metal center. The rationality of the catalytic cycle, with an olefin dihydride complex as the key intermediate, was supported by the deuterium-labeling studies. The X-ray diffraction analysis of the single crystal of catalyst revealed that the rigid and sterically hindered chiral environment created by the spiro phosphino-oxazoline ligands is the essential factor that permits the catalyst to obtain excellent chiral discrimination. A chiral induction model was suggested on the basis of the catalyst structure and the product configuration.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the timeliness of the notifiable communicable diseases surveillance system in Fujian province. METHODS: Database from the internet based communicable diseases reporting system was used. RESULTS: The 50th percentile of time between the disease diagnosed and report recorded in medical faculties was 1 day in 2004 which was 6 days less than that in 2001 - 2003. The timeliness rate of 0 day was 46.46%, a 2.7 times over that in 2001 - 2003. The timeliness of notifiable communicable diseases surveillance system in different administrative areas, reporting units and on different diseases was significantly different. Time between the disease diagnosed and report recorded was the shortest in those cases reported by hospitals and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) hospitals at the county level and above, with 50th percentile as 0 day, but the timeliness rate of 0 day was 50.76% with 70.04% of the cases were reported from hospitals and TCM hospitals of county level and above. Length between the disease diagnosed and reported was the longest in those cases recorded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDCs) with the 50th percentile as 3 days. The source of cases recorded by CDCs came from hospitals at the township level, where there was no connection to internet but the reporting cards had to be sent to local CDCs. Time between the disease being diagnosed and reported was 2 days in those cases reported by hospitals at the township level. 21.21% of cases were recorded by hospitals of township level and CDCs. The 50th percentile of time shown between the reported records and confirmed by CDCs was 4 hours The 24 hour timeliness rate was 63.65%. CONCLUSION: The timeliness of the notifiable communicable diseases surveillance system had been improved significantly after the medical personnel recording the cases directly through internet. Timeliness could be further improved through access to internet at the hospitals of township level, training of staff and better hospital management systems.
