RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate the effect of olfactory and/or gustatory stimulation interventions on feeding outcomes in preterm infants. METHODS: We conducted systematic searches across various academic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Database, and the Wipu Database. These searches aimed to identify randomized controlled trials investigating the impact of olfactory and/or gustatory stimulation on preterm infants. The search period spanned from the inception of the databases until December 2022. Two independent evaluators autonomously reviewed the literature, extracted pertinent data, assessed the quality of the included studies, and conducted a meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software. RESULTS: A total of 7 randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental studies were included, with a total of 871 participants. Olfactory and gustatory stimulation demonstrated a reduction in the time to full enteral feeds in preterm infants when compared to usual care (MD = -1.60 days; 95% CI = -2.31, -0.89; p<0.0001). No substantial evidence was identified regarding the influence of olfactory and gustatory stimulation on the duration of gastric tube placement, length of hospitalization, incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis, or occurrence of spontaneous bowel perforation in preterm infants. CONCLUSIONS: Olfactory and gustatory stimulation show potential benefits for preterm infants. However, due to the low to very low level of certainty associated with the available data, our ability to assess the effects is limited. Further trials and studies are essential to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms and effectiveness of olfactory and gustatory stimulation therapies.

RESUMEN

Control of plant viral diseases through cross-protection conferred by an attenuated vaccine is an important strategy for plant protection. However, the mutated site of an attenuated vaccine may not be stably inherited, while viruses have evolved efficient repair mechanisms for the maintenance of genomic integrity. Here, the wide host range and broad selection of mutation sites in cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) enabled construction of an attenuated vaccine through insertional mutation of the CMV 2b protein. CMV-R2E was stably inherited in tobacco for more than 10 generations and had a high relative control efficacy of CMV. Then, the use of polyetherimide (PEI)-modified functionalized carboxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes (PSWNTs) was investigated for vaccine delivery to address the problems of poor stability, complex procedure on field application, and exacting storage conditions with Agrobacterium inoculation. After co-incubating at a 1:300 ratio for 30 min, the vaccine and PSWNTs combined to form pCMV-R2E@PSWNTs, which resulted in a significant increase in the average height of the nanoparticles from 6.56 to 72.34 nm. The relative control efficacy of pCMV-R2E@PSWNTs to CMV was found to be 90.37%. Furthermore, the protective effect of PSWNTs on plasmids was investigated under various environmental conditions and the potential plant toxicity of pCMV-R2E@PSWNTs was assessed, providing a theoretical basis for field application of the vaccine nano-delivery system. A highly effective, stable viral vaccine for plants was thus developed and combined with nanocarriers to address the problems of field application. This approach has the potential to enable wider use of attenuated vaccines for sustainable prevention against plant viral disease in the field.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Older people in the nursing home environment are much less mobile and capable of taking care of themselves as they age, and most of them face the plight of loneliness, which seriously affects the quality of life of older people in their later years. AIMS: A systematic review and synthesis of older people's experiences of loneliness in nursing homes. DESIGN: Following ENTREQ, do a systematic evaluation and synthesis of qualitative investigations. METHODS: A search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, the Chinese biomedical literature service system, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Database and the Wipu Database for qualitative studies of older people's experiences of loneliness in nursing homes was conducted with a search time frame of March 2023. Evaluation of the quality of the literature using the Joanna Briggs Institute's Australian Centre for Evidence-Based Health Care Quality Assessment Criteria for Qualitative Research, And the data were synthesised using Thomas and Harden's method of thematic and content analysis. RESULTS: A total of 13 papers were included, and 36 research findings were distilled and integrated into three themes: causes of loneliness; feelings of loneliness; coping with loneliness; and seven sub-themes: aging and loss; environmental transformation; loneliness is a pain; loneliness is a choice; participation; strengthening social ties; and diverting attention. CONCLUSIONS: Older people in nursing homes face varying degrees of loneliness, which is a subjective feeling influenced by the interplay between personal awareness and the external environment, so future care interventions should be developed in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the characteristics of the older people themselves and their external environment. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: This study is a meta-synthesis and does not require relevant contributions from patients or the public.

RESUMEN

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is one of the most important industrial crops in the world. Its leaves are the main raw material for cigarettes, but they are often threatened by fungal pathogens in the production process (Wang et al. 2022). From May to June 2022, a disease of tobacco (cv K326) (15% of plants) in a 0.3-ha field in Jingxi of Guangxi Province showed symptoms of local necrosis and perforation of middle and basal leaves (Fig S1). Pieces of leaf tissue (3 × 3 mm) were excised from the edge of the necrotic lesion of each plant, treated with 75% ethanol for 10 s, soaked in 2% NaClO solution for 1-2 min, rinsed with sterile water for three times, and then plated on potato dextrose agar(PDA)medium and incubated at 28°C. Isolate TJYA13 was used for subsequent studies. After 8 days, the colony margin was yellowish brown and irregular, the center was black and plicated. The isolate TJYA13 was incubated on oatmeal agar medium at 28°C for 4 days, and many pseudothecia were observed embedded on the surface of the medium. Pseudothecium was globose or subglobose, dark brown, and size was 184.7-304.7 µm × 187.5-340.5 µm (n=20). Ascospores were usually wrapped by the saccate ascus in pseudothecium, cylindrical or ellipsoidal, with 5-6 transverse septa, and size was 12.2-18.5 µm × 35.6-51.8 µm (n=80). The morphological characteristics of ascospores were consistent with a Leptosphaerulina species (Hou et al. 2020). For accurate identification, the genomic DNA of isolate TJYA13 was extracted with Ezup Column Fungi Genomic DNA Purification Kit (Sangon, Shanghai, China). The ITS region, 28s ribosomal RNA (LSU), ß-tubulin (TUB), and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2) were amplified with primers ITS1/ITS4 (Gardes and Bruns 1993; White et al. 1990), LROR/LR7 (Rehner and Samuels 1994), Btub2Fd/Btub4Rd (Woudenberg et al. 2009), and RPB2-5F2/fRPB2-7cR (Liu et al. 1999), respectively and sequenced at Sangon Biotech (Sichuan, China). The sequences were deposited in GenBank (accession nos. OP926927, OP926933, OP939419, OP939422). The phylogenetic analysis grouped the isolate TJYA13 within the L. americana clade (Fig S2) (Hou et al. 2020). Pathogenicity of the isolate TJYA13 was verified on four healthy tobacco plants (cv K326). The mycelial plugs were inoculated on leaves sterilized with 75% ethanol, and control plants were inoculated with sterile PDA plugs. Plants were incubated at 28 ℃ and 78% humidity. After 10 days, the leaves inoculated with mycelial plugs had symptoms similar to those in the field, but there were no symptoms on the control leaves. L. americana were reisolated from the leaves inoculated with the mycelial plugs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of L. americana causing holing disease on tobacco in China. This disease may reduce yields and lower quality of flue-cured tobacco leaf. Therefore, the emergence of tobacco holing disease should be noted to prevent potential damage to tobacco production in Guangxi. Reference 1. Hou L. W., et al. 2020. Stud. Mycol. 96: 309-396 2. RESUMEN

Introduction: The continuous application of cow manure in soil for many years leads to the accumulation of heavy metals, pathogenic microorganisms, and antibiotic resistance genes. Therefore, in recent years, cow manure has often been mixed with botanical oil meal as organic fertilizer applied to farmland to improve soil and crop quality. However, the effects of various botanical oil meal and cow manure mixed organic fertilizers on soil microbial composition, community structure, and function, tobacco yield, and quality remain unclear. Methods: Therefore, we prepared organic manure via solid fermentation by mixing cow manure with different oil meals (soybean meal, rape meal, peanut bran, sesame meal). Then, we studied its effects on soil microbial community structure and function, physicochemical properties, enzyme activities, tobacco yield and quality; then we analyzed the correlations between these factors. Results and discussion: Compared with cow manure alone, the four kinds of mixed botanical oil meal and cow manure improved the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco to different degrees. Peanut bran, which significantly improved the soil available phosphorus, available potassium, and NO3--N, was the best addition. Compared with cow manure alone, soil fungal diversity was significantly decreased when rape meal or peanut bran was combined with cow manure, while soil bacterial and fungal abundance was significantly increased when rape meal was added compared with soybean meal or peanut bran. The addition of different botanical oil meals significantly enriched the subgroup_7 and Spingomonas bacteria and Chaetomium and Penicillium fungi in the soil. The relative abundances of functional genes of xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism, soil endophytic fungi, and wood saprotroph functional groups increased. In addition, alkaline phosphatase had the greatest effect on soil microorganisms, while NO3--N had the least effect on soil microorganisms. In conclusion, the mixed application of cow manure and botanical oil meal increased the available phosphorus and potassium contents in soil; enriched beneficial microorganisms; promoted the metabolic function of soil microorganisms; increased the yield and quality of tobacco; and improved the soil microecology.

RESUMEN

Population genetic structure is strongly affected by dispersal events, especially for migratory species. The investigation of population structure is therefore conducive to increasing our understanding of species dispersal. Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an important tobacco pest in China causing serious damage to multiple crops. In this study, we explore its dispersal dynamics by clarifying the fine-scale population genetics using 545 S. litura samples collected from tobacco plantations at 24 locations (mainly in Baise, Hechi, and Hezhou, Southern China). We analyzed the genetic diversity, genetic structure, and gene flow of these populations using seven microsatellite loci. Our results revealed high genetic diversity and low population genetic structure among S. litura. The genetic distance was uncorrelated with geographical distance, indicating the complete randomness of dispersal among the local populations. Our results suggest that the movement scope of contemporary S. litura might be much higher than the local-level spatial scale, which will provide a theoretical basis for pest management.

RESUMEN

Among the constituent molecular classes of proteins and nucleic acids, the presence of Ribose and deoxy-Ribose in space remains unclear. Here, we provide experimental evidence of astronomically related sugar derivatives - carbon cluster (fullerenes and graphenes)/prebiotic sugar complexes - and study their formation processes in the gas phase. The results show that, with PAH cations (dicoronylene, DC, C48H20+)/(2-deoxy-d-Ribose, dR, C5H10O4, and dehydrated 2-deoxy-d-Ribose, DedR, C5H8O3) and fullerene cations (C60+)/(dR and DedR) as the initial molecular precursors, two series of graphene-prebiotic sugar cluster cations (graphene/dR and graphene/DedR, e.g., (dR)Cn+ and (DedR)Cn+) and two series of fullerene-prebiotic sugar cluster cations (fullerene/dR and fullerene/DedR, e.g., (dR)(DedR)2Cn+, (DedR)3Cn+, and (dR)2(DedR)Cn+) are formed through an ion-molecule reaction pathway under the influence of a strong radiation field. The structures of the newly formed complexes and the binding energies of these formation reactions are initially theoretically calculated. These laboratory studies attest to the importance of ion-molecule reaction synthesis routes for the chemical complexity in space, demonstrating that the gas phase interstellar materials could directly lead to the formation of large and complex sugar derivatives in a bottom-up growth process. The chemical evolution in space in which single molecules are transformed into complex molecules produces a wide variety of organic compounds (e.g., carbon cluster (fullerenes and graphenes)/prebiotic sugar complexes). For their astrobiological implications, this opens up aromatic based biogenic chemistry that is available to the parent of PAHs or fullerenes in the interstellar environments.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: A 42-year-old woman underwent 131I radiotherapy for thyroid papillary cancer. A focal elevated 131I activity in the right kidney was revealed on the initial whole-body posttherapeutic images, which was located in the region of a renal stone. However, on the follow-up 131I images acquired 6 months later, there was no longer any increased activity in the region of this stone, which had moved into right ureter. Our case indicates that the 131I activity accumulated in the region of urinary stone is due to stagnated radioactive urine rather than due to the stone per se.

RESUMEN

Long non-coding RNA BRM (lncBRM) was first identified in liver cancer stem cells and was reported to promote multiple cancer types. However, the function of lncBRM in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) remains unclear. The primary focus of the present study was to determine the biological role of lncBRM in PTC. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR assays revealed that lncBRM was upregulated in PTC tissues and cells. Cell Counting Kit-8, Transwell invasion and colony-formation assays were performed to assess cell proliferation, invasion and migration, respectively. Furthermore, high expression of lncBRM was associated with poor overall survival time in patients with PTC. lncBRM knockout significantly suppressed cell proliferation, migration and invasion. lncBRM was predicted to bind to microRNA (miR)-331-3p and targets SLC25A1. Overexpression of miR-331-3p or inhibition of SLC25A1 resulted in significantly suppressed proliferation, migration and invasion of PTC cells. Rescue assays demonstrated that inhibition of miR-331-3p significantly abrogated the effects of lncBRM knockout on PTC cell proliferation, migration and invasion. In conclusion, the present study suggests that lncBRM promotes PTC by regulating miR-331-3p and targeting SLC25A1.

RESUMEN

We study the one-dimensional Fermionic Hubbard model with [Formula: see text] spin symmetry in the incommensurate filling case. The basic properties of Green's function, momentum distribution and tunneling density of states of the system at low temperature are studied in the frame work of Luttinger liquid theory combined with Bethe Ansatz solutions for arbitrary interaction. In the strong interacting case, the system enters the spin-incoherent regime at intermediate temperature [Formula: see text] and we obtain the Green's function and tunneling density of states by generalizing the path integral approach for the [Formula: see text] case to the [Formula: see text] case in this regime. The theoretical results we obtained agree qualitatively with the experiments on the one-dimensional alkaline earth atomic system with [Formula: see text] spin symmetry. The similarities and difference between the one-dimensional [Formula: see text] Fermionic Hubbard system at large N and the one-dimensional spinless Bosonic system are also investigated.

RESUMEN

Highly pressurized injection pipelines in CO2 flooding often suffer from different types of corrosion defects and mechanical stresses and can easily cause serious damage to the environment. Currently, the descending rule of pipe burst pressures under different defect parameters and tensile loads has not been studied systematically. In this study, a section of injection pipe was used to simulate the burst process of pipe with groove and general corrosion defects. The crack appearance showed that the fracture began at the centre of the longitudinal defect line as an instantaneous ductile rupture and then extended along both sides as a rapid brittle rupture under high stress. The burst pressure in the groove corrosion defect tests showed that the defect depth played a more dominant role in pipe burst than the defect length did, and when a 30 MPa axial tensile load was added, the pipe burst pressure was reduced approximately 20-30%. In general corrosion defect tests, the burst pressures were generally much lower than the groove corrosion defect tests produced, and when adding the axial tensile load, the burst mode changed. Moreover, the value of the burst pressure can be a sign of BLEVE (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion) severity.

RESUMEN

The sudden rupture of a vessel containing liquefied carbon dioxide (CO2) can generate a boiling liquid expanding vapor cloud explosion (BLEVE). The entire evolution process and mechanism of CO2 BLEVE has not been fully characterized, and its influencing factors have not been systematically examined. In this study, the ejection process and microphase change process in the vessel were recorded by a high-speed camera. Within 20ms, the pressure peaks surpassed the initial values and were considered to be the initiation of a sequence that generated a CO2 BLEVE under certain conditions. In addition, a critical relief caliber with a diameter of 8mm was observed under the initial burst pressures of 3 and 5MPa. This critical relief caliber is essential for risk control and management. About 52ms after the rupture, a heterogeneous nucleation center was formed in the liquefied CO2 in the vessel. Subsequent nucleation center extension and swelling generated another pressure peak. The pressure peak did not surpass the initial pressure value. However, this phenomenon did not eliminate any possible connections between the heterogeneous nucleation process and the CO2 BLEVE. If the conditions had been proper, the explosion could have happened.

RESUMEN

The D2Σ+-X2Σ+ electronic absorption spectrum of the astrophysically relevant yttrium oxide (YO) molecule has been recorded for the first time in the 400-440 nm region using laser induced fluorescence. YO molecules are produced by corona discharge of oxygen between the tips of two yttrium needles in a supersonic jet expansion. An unambiguous spectroscopic identification of the D2Σ+-X2Σ+ transition becomes possible from a combined analysis of the moderate-resolution laser excitation spectrum and dispersed fluorescence spectrum. We have also performed multi-state complete active space second order perturbation theory calculations on the first six doublets of YO, and the results support our assignment of the D2Σ+ state. Accurate spectroscopic constants for D2Σ+ν' = 0 and 1 levels have been determined from a rotational analysis of the high resolution spectra that are recorded with a resolution of ∼0.018 cm-1. Severe perturbations are observed in the experimental spectra and are considered to originate from interactions with at least one nearby 2/4Π electronic state, e.g., the undetected C2Π state. We have also measured the radiative lifetimes of B2Σ+ν' = 0, and D2Σ+ν' = 0 and 1 states, based on which the B2Σ+-X2Σ+ (0, 0) and D2Σ+-X2Σ+ (0/1, 0) band oscillator strengths have been determined.

RESUMEN

We present a pulsed single longitudinal mode optical parametric oscillator that was recently constructed for sub-Doppler spectroscopic studies of transient species in a supersonic slit jet expansion environment. The system consists of a Littman-type grazing-incidence-grating resonator and a KTP crystal and is pumped at 532 nm. By spatially filtering the pump laser beam and employing an active cavity-length-stabilization scheme, a frequency down-conversion efficiency up to 18% and generation of Fourier-transform limited pulses with a typical pulse duration of ∼5.5 ns and a bandwidth less than 120 MHz have been achieved. In combination with a slit jet expansion, a sub-Doppler spectrum of SiC2 has been recorded at ∼498 nm, showing a spectral resolution of Δν/ν ≈ 6.2 × 10-7.

RESUMEN

Tissue eosinophilia is rarely observed in cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of B cell origin. The present study describes a rare case of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, which was initially misdiagnosed as eosinophilic pneumonia. The initial diagnosis was formed based on the results of chest radiography, peripheral eosinophilia tests and bronchoalveolar lavage, and the clinical course of the patient. Following administration of methylprednisolone (40 mg/day) for 4 days and oral administration of prednisolone (30 mg/day), the clinical course rapidly improved and the eosinophil count immediately decreased a to normal level. However, abnormal shadows observed on computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest did not diminish. At 6 months after the initiation of treatment, CT-guided percutaneous lung biopsy was performed, and a final diagnosis of primary pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma was made based on immunohistochemical examination. Primary lung MALT lymphoma remains a rare entity, with an indolent course and a reasonably favorable prognosis, whose diagnosis may be challenging.

RESUMEN

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive lung disease involving pulmonary injury associated with tissue repair, dysfunction and fibrosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), as gene regulators, are assumed to regulate about one third of genes and thus play important roles in cellular functions including proliferation, growth, differentiation and apoptosis. Recent studies have indicated that some miRNAs may play critical roles in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. In this study, we found that miR-338*(miR-338-5p), which has been found to be associated with tumor progression, was down-regulated in fibroblasts and TGF-ß-induced lung fibrotic tissues. Over-expression of miR-338* can partly prevent the fibrotic process induced by TGF-ß. Moreover, LPA1 was proven to be a downstream target of miR-338*. Lentivirus-mediated over-expression of miR-338* can alleviate lung fibrosis induced by bleomycin in mice. Taken together, our results suggest that miR-338* attenuates the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis through targeting LPA1. Thus, miR-338* can be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of IPF.

RESUMEN

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic lung disease involving pulmonary injury associated with tissue repair, dysfunction and fibrosis. Recent studies indicate that some microRNAs (miRNAs) may play critical roles in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. In this study, we aim to investigate whether miR-338* (miR-338-5p), which has been found to be associated with tumor progression, is associated with pathological process of pulmonary fibrosis. Balb/c mice were treated with bleomycin (BLM) to establish IPF models. Targtscan was used to predict the downstream target of miR-338*. Morphological changes were observed with light microscope and epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers were detected by western blot. The expression of miR-338* or downstream target SMO was analyzed by real-time quantitative RT-PCR, northern blot or western blot. MiR-338* was down-regulated in the lung tissue from mice with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. The smoothened (SMO) is a direct target of miR-338*, and knocking-down the expression of SMO could partially rescue the fibrotic phenotype of TGF-ß-induced NuLi-1 cells. Over-expression of SMO led to the fibrotic phenotype of NuLi-1 cells even without TGF-ß treatment. These findings showed that the over-expression of SMO contributed to the fibrotic phenotype of NuLi-1 cells by affecting the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) procedure. Furthermore, in vivo, lentivirus-mediated over-expression of miR-338* can alleviate lung fibrosis induced by bleomycin in mice. In conclusion, our results suggest that miR-338* can target SMO to reduce the EMT procedure and thus postpone the development of pulmonary fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Small biopsy samples are generally considered inconclusive for bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) diagnosis despite their potential to reveal organizing pneumonia (OP) pathologically, necessitating risky invasive tissue biopsy during surgery for reliable confirmation. OBJECTIVE: OP by CT-guided lung biopsy was to evaluate the role in the diagnosis of BOOP. METHODS: A retrospective review of 134 cases with the OP feature in the CT-guided lung biopsy samples between 2004 and 2011 at a single center was conducted. Diagnostic accuracy of OP by CT-guided lung biopsy and clinical-radiographic data alone were compared. RESULTS: After exclusion of 11 cases due to pathology with others besides OP and 15 cases for loss to follow-up, 108 were included. Of these, 95 cases and 13 cases were classified as BOOP and non-BOOP group, respectively. Among BOOP group, only 30 were initially diagnosed as BOOP according to the typical clinical and radiographic features. The other 65 cases with atypical features were diagnosed as BOOP mainly based on OP by CT-guided lung biopsy. Among non-BOOP group, one was misdiagnosed as BOOP, and others were not BOOP according to clinical and radiographic findings. Thus, OP by CT-guided lung biopsy produced a diagnostic accuracy of 87.96% (95/108), much higher than 31.25% (30/96) observed using clinical and radiographic data alone. Combined, these techniques produced diagnostic accuracy of 98.96% (95/96). CONCLUSIONS: OP by CT-guided lung biopsy can be effectively used as the pathological evidence for BOOP diagnosis and reducing unnecessary surgery.

RESUMEN

The variation of G>T in the MUC5B promoter (rs35705950) has been associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and familial interstitial pneumonia (FIP) in Caucasians, but no information is available regarding this variant in the Chinese population. We recruited 405 patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD), including 165 IPF patients and 2043 healthy controls, for genotyping the MUC5B gene in the Chinese population. One hundred three patients with pneumonia and 360 patients with autoimmune diseases (ADs) were recruited as disease controls. Our results indicated that the prevalence of the minor allele (T) of the polymorphism rs35705950 in healthy Chinese subjects was approximately 0.66%, which was lower than that described in the Caucasian population. The frequencies of the T allele were 3.33% and 2.22% in IPF and ILD patients, respectively, and these values were significantly higher than those of healthy controls (P = 0.001, OR = 4.332 for IPF, and P = 0.002, OR = 2.855 for ILD). A stratified analysis showed that this variant in MUC5B associated with the risk for ILD mainly in older male Chinese subjects. No difference was observed between patients with pneumonia, AD patients, and healthy controls.

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of levofloxacin 750 mg for 5 days versus 500 mg for 7-14 days intravenous (IV) in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). This clinical trial was the first of its kind conducted in Chinese people and also in Asian population. A total of 241 were enrolled and randomized to 750 mg group (n = 121) or 500 mg (n = 120) group from 10 study centers. The median treatment duration was 5.0 days in 750 mg and 9.0 days in 500 mg group. The median total dose was 3750 mg in 750 mg and 4500 mg in 500 mg group. The bacterial eradication rate was 100% in both groups. The overall efficacy rate in 750 mg group was 86.2% (94/109), and 84.7% (94/111), in 500 mg group of full analysis set visit 4, 95% confidence interval of 1.6% (-7.8-10.9%); the statistical results showed that 750 mg group was non-inferior to 500 mg group. The most common clinical adverse drug reactions were injection site adverse reactions in both 750 mg group and 500 mg group; the other common adverse drug reactions were insomnia, nausea, skin rash, etc. The most common drug-related laboratory abnormalities were neutrophil percentage decreased, decreased white blood cell count, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase elevation in both 750 mg group and 500 mg group. Most of adverse drug reactions were mild in severity and well-tolerated. In summary, the regimen of levofloxacin 750 mg IV for 5 days was at least as effective and well tolerated as 500 mg IV for 7-14 days for the treatment of CAP.
