RESUMEN

Three-photon fluorescence microscopy (3PFM) is a promising brain research tool with submicrometer spatial resolution and high imaging depth. However, only limited materials have been developed for 3PFM owing to the rigorous requirement of the three-photon fluorescence (3PF) process. Herein, under the guidance of a band gap engineering strategy, CdTe/CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) emitting in the near-infrared window are designed for constructing 3PF probes. The formation of type II structure significantly increased the three-photon absorption cross section of QDs and caused the delocalization of electron-hole wave functions. The time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the decay of biexcitons was significantly suppressed due to the appropriate band gap alignment, which further enhanced the 3PF efficiency of QDs. By utilizing QD-based 3PF probes, high-resolution 3PFM imaging of cerebral vasculature was realized excited by a 1600 nm femtosecond laser, indicating the possibility of deep brain imaging with these 3PF probes.

RESUMEN

Terrestrial moisture recycling (TMR), characterized by a continuous process comprising green water flow (i.e., terrestrial evaporation), atmospheric transport, and terrestrial precipitation, functions as a nexus connecting hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere. During this process, land cover changes that impact green water flow can modify regional and remote precipitation patterns, potentially yielding far-reaching effects on water resources and human livelihoods. However, the comprehensive patterns of moisture recycling and transfer across eco-geographical regions in China, and their connection with various land cover types and vegetation transitions, remain insufficiently evaluated. This study employed an atmospheric moisture tracking model to quantify China's TMR pattern and evaluate the hydrological impacts of vegetation cover changes in China's ecosystems through TMR. The results demonstrate a significant moisture recycling ratio (52.4 %) and a considerable recycled volume (1.9 trillion m3/a) over China, characterized by pronounced moisture transfer from south to north and southwest to northeast. Among various land cover types, grasslands, croplands, and forests play pivotal supportive roles in China's TMR, contributing 738.8, 470.0, and 450.0 billion m3/a of precipitation in China, respectively. Moreover, the potential transition of vegetation between forest and cropland exerts the most significant and extensive impact on China's hydrological cycle. The conversion from forest to cropland leads to a total decrease of 44.7 billion m3/a in precipitation, whereas reforestation from cropland corresponds to a precipitation increase of 74.9 billion m3/a. This study provides a quantitative approach to comprehending the TMR pattern and its relationship with ecosystems, substantiating the significance of a comprehensive water management framework that considers the contribution of atmospheric moisture recycling and the impact of vegetation cover change.

RESUMEN

This study explored the medication rules of Chinese herbal compound prescriptions for the treatment of angina based on the Chinese herbal compound patents in the patent database of the China National Intellectual Property Administration. The data of eligible Chinese herbal compound patents for the treatment of angina were collected from the patent database of the China National Intellectual Property Administration from database inception to November 10, 2022, and subjected to data modeling, analysis of main syndromes, medication frequency analysis, cluster analysis, association rule analysis, and data visualization by using Excel 2021, IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0, IBM SPSS Modeler 18.0, Cytoscape 3.9.1, and Rstudio R 4.2.2.2 to explore the medication rules for angina. The study included 636 pieces of patent data for angina that met the inclusion criteria, involving 815 drugs, with a total frequency of 6 586. The most common main syndromes were blood stasis obstructing the heart syndrome(222, 34.91%) and Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome(112, 17.61%). The top 10 most frequently used drugs were Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Carthami Flos, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Borneolum Syntheticum, and Corydalis Rhizoma. High-frequency drugs included blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs(1 197, 18.17%) and deficiency-tonifying drugs(809, 12.28%). Cluster analysis identified eight drug combinations, including five new prescriptions suitable for clinical use and new drug development, and three drug pairs. The core drug combination of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Chuanxiong Rhizoma-Carthami Flos was identified through the complex co-occurrence network analysis of Chinese medicines. Association rule analysis yielded a total of 17 rules, including 13 drug pairs and 4 tripartite combinations. Common drug pairs included Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Chuanxiong Rhizoma(support degree 25.79%, confidence coefficient 69.49%, lift 1.30) and Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma(support degree 22.01%, confidence coefficient 61.95%, lift 1.16). Common tripartite combinations included Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Chuanxiong Rhizoma-Astragali Radix(support degree 10.85%, confidence coefficient 73.40%, lift 1.37) and Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Chuanxiong Rhizoma-Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma(support degree 10.69%, confidence coefficient 79.07%, lift 1.48). The results showed that the underlying pathogenesis of angina involved blood stasis obstructing the heart and Qi deficiency and blood stasis. The overall nature of the disease was characterized as asthenia in origin and sthenia in superficiality. In the prescription formulation, blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs, such as Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and Carthami Flos were often used to resolve the excess manifestation, which were combined with tonifying drugs such as Astragali Radix, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, and Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma to reinforce the deficiency. The syndrome, pathogenesis, disease nature, and medication were consistent with clinical practice. Additionally, the new compound prescriptions and drug combinations derived from the multiple data mining in this study could provide references and insights for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of angina and the development of new drugs.

RESUMEN

Three-photon fluorescence microscopy (3PFM) has emerged as a promising tool in monitoring the structures and functions of the brain. Compared to the various imaging technologies, 3PFM enables a deep-penetrating depth attributed to tighter excitation confinement and suppressed photon scattering. However, the shortage of three-photon probes with a large absorption cross section (σ3) substantially limits its uses. Herein, CdSe/CdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with enhanced 3PF performance were synthesized via the band gap engineering strategy. The introduction of a CdS interlayer with optimized thickness between the emitting CdSe core and the ZnS shell significantly enhanced the 3P absorption cross section of QDs, which originated from the intrinsic piezoelectric polarization effect and the change of the core/shell structure from type-I to quasi-type-II. In addition, the outer ZnS layer compensated the poor electronic passivation of CdS, providing a high level of passivation for the improvement of quantum yield as well as the 3P action cross section of QDs. Under the excitation of a 1600 nm femtosecond laser, PEGylated CdSe/CdS/ZnS QDs were used for in vivo 3PFM imaging of cerebral vessels with high resolution. A tiny capillary with a diameter of 0.8 µm could be resolved at the imaging depth of 1550 µm in a mouse brain with an opened skull. A penetration depth of 850 µm beneath the skull was also achieved using a mouse model with an intact skull.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between two genetic variants (rs2275913 and rs3748067) of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and the risk of ovarian endometriosis in northern Chinese women. This study was performed in 316 patients with ovarian endometriosis and 328 female control subjects. The genotypes of the two polymorphisms were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The mRNA expression of IL-17A was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). There was a significant difference in the genotype distributions of the rs2275913 polymorphism between the patients and control subjects (p = .006). Compared with the GG genotype of rs2275913, the AA genotype was correlated with a higher susceptibility to the development of ovarian endometriosis (OR = 2.28, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.37-3.80). Furthermore, the levels of IL-17A mRNA were higher in the ectopic endometrium from ovarian endometriosis patients carrying the rs2275913 AA genotype than in those carrying the rs2275913 GG genotype (p = .007). This study suggested that the rs2275913 polymorphism at the promoter region of IL-17A may be a functional genetic variant, and the rs2275913 AA genotype is associated with a higher risk of developing ovarian endometriosis in northern Chinese women.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Interleukin-17A (IL-17A) is a crucial proinflammatory and angiogenic cytokine that has been shown to participate in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Genetic variants in IL-17A may alter the expression of the IL-17A, and are associated with the susceptibility to a wide range of human diseases. What do the results of this study add? This study suggested that the rs2275913 polymorphism at the promoter region of IL-17A may be a functional genetic variant that affects the expression of IL-17A mRNA in ectopic endometrial tissues. The AA genotype of rs2275913 was associated with a higher risk of developing ovarian endometriosis in northern Chinese women. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? IL-17A may be a potential biomarker for early diagnosis and gene-targeted therapy of ovarian endometriosis.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and TRAIL-receptor-2 (TRAIL-R2) are associated with atherosclerosis. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the potential association between TRAIL/TRAIL-R2 with mortality or cardiovascular (CV) events. PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for reports published up to May 2021. Reports were included when the association between TRAIL or TRAIL-R2 and mortality or CV events was reported. Considering the heterogeneity between studies, we used the random-effects model for all analyses. Ultimately, the meta-analysis included 18 studies (16,295 patients). The average follow-up ranged from 0.25 to 10 years. Decreased TRAIL levels were negatively associated with all-cause mortality [rank variable, hazard ratio (HR), 95% CI, 2.93, 1.94-4.42; I2 = 0.0%, Pheterogeneity = 0.835]. Increased TRAIL-R2 levels were positively associated with all-cause mortality (continuous variable, HR, 95% CI, 1.43, 1.23-1.65; I2 = 0.0%, Pheterogeneity = 0.548; rank variable, HR, 95% CI, 7.08, 2.70-18.56; I2 = 46.5%, Pheterogeneity = 0.154), CV mortality (continuous variable, HR, 95% CI, 1.33, 1.14-1.57; I2 = 0.0%, Pheterogeneity = 0.435), myocardial infarction (continuous variable, HR, 95% CI, 1.23, 1.02-1.49; rank variable, HR, 95% CI, 1.49, 1.26-1.76; I2 = 0.7%, Pheterogeneity = 0.402), and new-onset heart failure (rank variable, HR, 95% CI, 3.23, 1.32-7.87; I2 = 83.0%, Pheterogeneity = 0.003). In conclusion, decreased TRAIL was negatively associated with all-cause mortality, and increased TRAIL-R2 was positively associated with all-cause mortality, CV mortality, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.

RESUMEN

The blood-brain barrier breakdown, as a prominent feature after traumatic brain injury, always triggers a cascade of biochemical events like inflammatory response and free radical-mediated oxidative damage, leading to neurological dysfunction. The dynamic monitoring the status of blood-brain barrier will provide potent guidance for adopting appropriate clinical intervention. Here, we engineer a near-infrared-IIb Ag2Te quantum dot-based Mn single-atom catalyst for imaging-guided therapy of blood-brain barrier breakdown of mice after traumatic brain injury. The dynamic change of blood-brain barrier, including the transient cerebral hypoperfusion and cerebrovascular damage, could be resolved with high spatiotemporal resolution (150 ms and ~ 9.6 µm). Notably, the isolated single Mn atoms on the surface of Ag2Te exhibited excellent catalytic activity for scavenging reactive oxygen species to alleviate neuroinflammation in brains. The timely injection of Mn single-atom catalyst guided by imaging significantly promoted the reconstruction of blood-brain barrier and recovery of neurological function after traumatic brain injury.

RESUMEN

Photoelectrochemical-type visible-blind ultraviolet photodetectors (PEC VBUV PDs) have gained ever-growing attention due to their simple fabrication processes, uncomplicated packaging technology, and high sensitivity. However, it is still challenging to achieve high-performance PEC VBUV PDs based on a single material with good spectral selectivity. Here, it is demonstrated that individual ultrathin indium oxide (In2 O3 ) nanosheets (NSs) are suitable for designing high-performance PEC VBUV PDs with high responsivity and UV/visible rejection ratio for the first time. In2 O3 NSs PEC PDs show excellent UV photodetection capability with an ultrahigh photoresponsivity of 172.36 mA W-1 and a high specific detectivity of 4.43 × 1011 Jones under 254 nm irradiation, which originates from the smaller charge transfer resistance (Rct ) at the In2 O3 NSs/electrolyte interface. The light absorption of In2 O3 NSs takes a blueshift due to the quantum confinement effect, granting good spectral selectivity for visible-blind detection. The UV/visible rejection ratio of In2 O3 NSs PEC PDs is 1567, which is 30 times higher than that of In2 O3 nanoparticles (NPs) and exceeds all recently reported PEC VBUV PDs. Moreover, In2 O3 NSs PEC PDs show good stability and good underwater imaging capability. The results verify that ultrathin In2 O3 NSs have potential in underwater optoelectronic devices.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Copy number variants (CNVs) are an important source of normal and pathogenic genome variations. CNVs identified in prenatal cases need careful considerations and correct interpretation if those are harmless or harmful variants from the norm. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old, gravida 1, para 0, woman underwent amniocentesis at 17 weeks of gestation because the noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) results revealed a 9.8 Mb deletion from Xq24 to Xq25. GTG-banding karyotype analysis was performed on cultured amniocytes. Chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) on uncultured amniocytes was performed. RESULTS: Chromosomal GTG-banding of the cultured amniocytes revealed a karyotype of 46,XX. CMA detected a 9.5-Mb chromosomal deletion in the region of Xq24q25 (arr[GRCh37] Xq24q25(118,975,436_128,444,692) × 1). CONCLUSION: The present report highlights that an integration of prenatal ultrasound, NIPT, karyotype analysis, CMA and genetic counseling is helpful for the prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal deletions/duplications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Copy number variants are a substantial source of pathogenic or normal genome variations. Chromosomal imbalances of several megabasepair are normally harmful for the affected person. Still, rarely reported are so-called "unbalanced chromosome abnormalities" (UBCAs), which are either losses or gains or equally large genomic regions, but the carrier is only minimally clinically affected even no clinically affected. The knowledge of such UBCAs is imperative also in noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) or chromosomal microarray analysis. CASE PRESENTATION: A paternally inherited dup(18)(q11.1q11.2) was identified in a over two generations in a Chinese family. The affected region encompasses 25 genes, among which GATA6 is expressed in fetal endothelial cells and mesodermal cells. GATA6 duplications and /or mutations have been seen in cases with congenital heart disease but also non-affected individuals, suggesting incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. CONCLUSIONS: Duplications in the region of chromosome 18q11 have been rare reported previously in clinically healthy persons. Here a further family with an UBCA in 18q11 is added to the literature, suggesting a careful genetic counselling in prenatal diagnosis.

RESUMEN

Highly efficient delivery of nanoagents to the tumor region remains the primary challenge for cancer nanomedicine. Herein, we propose a NO-mediated tumor microenvironment (TME) remodeling strategy for the high-efficient delivery of nanoagents into tumor. Quantum dots (QDs) with bright fluorescence in the near-infrared IIb (NIR-IIb, 1500-1700 nm) window and high photothermal conversion efficiency were encapsulated into liposomes for the imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) of tumor. The fabrication of PEG and arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD) peptide on liposomes ensured the prolonged circulation in vivo and active targeting to tumor. Moreover, the loading of a natural NO generator L-arginine in liposomes realized the continuous generation of NO in the acidic TME. By co-localization fluorescence imaging and western blot of tumor tissue, we confirmed that the release of NO activated the expression of metalloproteinases in TME and further degraded Collagen I in the peripheral region of the tumor, thus removing the barrier for the permeation of liposomes. Attributed to the enhanced accumulation of liposomes inside the tumor, NIR IIb imaging-guided PTT was achieved with remarkable therapeutic efficacy.

RESUMEN

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has excellent potential in the clinical monitoring of tumors because it can provide high-resolution soft tissue imaging. However, commercial contrast agents (CAs) used in MRI still have some problems such as potential toxicity to the human body, low relaxivity, and a short MRI acquisition window. In this study, ultrasmall MnSe nanoparticles are synthesized by living Staphylococcus aureus cells. The as-prepared MnSe nanoparticles are monodispersed with a uniform particle size (3.50 ± 0.52 nm). Due to the ultrasmall particle size and good water solubility, the MnSe nanoparticles exhibit in vitro high longitudinal relaxivity properties (14.12 ± 1.85 mM-1·s-1). The CCK-8 colorimetric assay, histological analysis, and body weight results show that the MnSe nanoparticles do not have appreciable toxicity on cells and organisms. Besides, the MnSe nanoparticles as T1-MRI CAs offer a long MRI acquisition window to tumor imaging (∼7 h). This work provides a promising T1-MRI CA for clinical tumor imaging and a good reference for the application of functional MnSe nanoparticles in the biomedicine field.

RESUMEN

Radiotherapy is an important therapeutic strategy for cancer treatment through direct damage to cancer cells and augmentation of antitumor immune responses. However, the efficacy of radiotherapy is limited by hypoxia-mediated radioresistance and immunosuppression in tumor microenvironment. Here, we construct a stabilized theranostic nanoprobe based on quantum dots emitting in the near-infrared IIb (NIR-IIb, 1,500-1,700 nm) window modified by catalase, arginine-glycine-aspartate peptides and poly(ethylene glycol). We demonstrate that the nanoprobes effectively aggregate in the tumor site to locate the tumor region, thereby realizing precision radiotherapy with few side-effects. In addition, nanoprobes relieve intratumoral hypoxia and reduce the tumor infiltration of immunosuppressive cells. Moreover, the nanoprobes promote the immunogenic cell death of cancer cells to trigger the activation of dendritic cells and enhance T cell-mediated antitumor immunity to inhibit tumor metastasis. Collectively, the nanoprobe-mediated immunogenic radiotherapy can boost the abscopal effect to inhibit tumor metastasis and prolong survival.

RESUMEN

Searching similar pictures for a given picture is an important task in numerous applications, including image recommendation system, image classification and image retrieval. Previous studies mainly focused on the similarities of content, which measures similarities based on visual features, such as color and shape, and few of them pay enough attention to semantics. In this paper, we propose a link-based semantic similarity search method, namely PictureSim, for effectively searching similar pictures by building a picture-tag network. The picture-tag network is built by "description" relationships between pictures and tags, in which tags and pictures are treated as nodes, and relationships between pictures and tags are regarded as edges. Then we design a TF-IDF-based model to removes the noisy links, so the traverses of these links can be reduced. We observe that "similar pictures contain similar tags, and similar tags describe similar pictures", which is consistent with the intuition of the SimRank. Consequently, we utilize the SimRank algorithm to compute the similarity scores between pictures. Compared with content-based methods, PictureSim could effectively search similar pictures semantically. Extensive experiments on real datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the PictureSim.

RESUMEN

In vivo fluorescence imaging in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II) has been considered as a promising technique for visualizing mammals. However, the definition of the NIR-II region and the mechanism accounting for the excellent performance still need to be perfected. Herein, we simulate the photon propagation in the NIR region (to 2340 nm), confirm the positive contribution of moderate light absorption by water in intravital imaging and perfect the NIR-II window as 900-1880 nm, where 1400-1500 and 1700-1880 nm are defined as NIR-IIx and NIR-IIc regions, respectively. Moreover, 2080-2340 nm is newly proposed as the third near-infrared (NIR-III) window, which is believed to provide the best imaging quality. The wide-field fluorescence microscopy in the brain is performed around the NIR-IIx region, with excellent optical sectioning strength and the largest imaging depth of intravital NIR-II fluorescence microscopy to date. We also propose 1400 nm long-pass detection in off-peak NIR-II imaging whose performance exceeds that of NIR-IIb imaging, using bright fluorophores with short emission wavelength.

RESUMEN

Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults, accounting for 80% of primary intracranial tumors. Due to the heterogeneous and infiltrating nature of malignant gliomas and the hindrance of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), it is very difficult to accurately image and differentiate the malignancy grade of gliomas, thus significantly influencing the diagnostic accuracy and subsequent surgery or therapy. In recent years, the rapid development of emerging nanoprobes has provided a promising opportunity for the diagnosis and treatment of gliomas. After rational component regulation and surface modification, functional nanoprobes could efficiently cross the BBB, target gliomas, and realize single-modal or multimodal imaging of gliomas with high clarity. Moreover, these contrast nanoagents could also be conjugated with therapeutic drugs and cure cancerous tissues at the same time. Herein, we focus on the design strategies of nanoprobes for effective crossing of the BBB, and introduce the recent advances in the precise imaging and therapy of gliomas using functional nanoprobes. Finally, we also discuss the challenges and future directions of nanoprobe-based diagnosis and treatment of gliomas.

RESUMEN

Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 heterojunctions, with different g-C3N4 dosages, were synthesized using an in situ deposition method, and the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 heterojunctions was studied under simulated sunlight conditions. The results revealed that Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 exhibited excellent photocatalytic degradation activity for rhodamine B (Rh B) and phenol under the same light conditions. When the dosage of g-C3N4 was 30%, the degradation rate of Rh B at 9 min and phenol at 30 min was found to be 99.4% and 97.3%, respectively. After five cycles of the degradation experiment for Rh B, g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 still demonstrated stable photodegradation characteristics. The significant improvement in the photocatalytic activity and stability of g-C3N4/Ag3PO4 was attributed to the rapid charge separation between g-C3N4 and Ag3PO4 during the Z-scheme charge transfer and recombination process.

RESUMEN

Currently, radiotherapy (RT) is the main method for cancer treatment. However, the hypoxic environment of solid tumors is likely to cause resistance or failure of RT. Moreover, high-dose radiation may cause side effects to surrounding normal tissues. In this study, a new type of nanozyme is developed by doping Mn (II) ions into Ag2 Se quantum dots (QDs) emitting in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm). Through the catalysis of Mn (II) ions, the nanozymes can trigger the rapid decomposition of H2 O2 and produce O2 . Conjugated with tumor-targeting arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD) tripeptides and polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecules, the nanozymes are then constructed into in vivo nanoprobes for NIR-II imaging-guided RT of tumors. Owing to the radiosensitive activity of the element Ag, the nanoprobes can promote radiation energy deposition. The specific tumor-targeting and NIR-II emitting abilities of the nanoprobes facilitate the precise tumor localization, which enables precise RT with low side effects. Moreover, their ultra-stability in the living body ensures that the nanoprobes continuously produce oxygen and relieve the hypoxia of tumors to enhance RT efficacy. Guided by real-time and high-clarity imaging, the nanoprobe-mediated RT promotes anti-tumor immunity, which significantly inhibits the growth of tumors or even cures them completely.

RESUMEN

Ca and P metabolic disorders during the egg-laying period can reduce egg production, impair eggshell quality, and even cause bone problems in hens; however, little is known regarding the capacity of duodenal and nephritic Ca and P absorption. Here, the levels of serum Ca and P metabolic indices and the expression of duodenal and renal Ca and P transporter genes were measured in hens at different egg-laying stages. The Ca, 25-(OH)-VD3, and 1,25-(OH)2-VD3 content increased during the peak (43 weeks of age) and late (72 weeks of age) egg-laying periods compared to that during the early (23 weeks of age) egg-laying period; however, there were no differences in Pi levels among the three egg-laying periods. Moreover, duodenal VDR and CaBP-D28k mRNA expression was markedly higher but NPt2b mRNA expression was markedly lower during the peak and late egg-laying periods than during the early egg-laying period. Furthermore, nephritic CaBP-D28k, PMCA1b, and FGFR1 mRNA expression was markedly higher but NPt2a and Cyp24a1 mRNA expression was markedly lower during the peak and late egg-laying periods than during the early egg-laying period. In conclusion, the present study indicated that the increased duodenal and nephritic Ca absorption during the peak and late egg-laying periods may be associated with the VD-VDR pathway, while the decreased P absorption despite relatively stable serum P levels in all three egg-laying stages may associated with osteolysis.
