RESUMEN

In this study, we successfully synthesized an innovative 1D-Zn(II) coordination polymer, denoted as [Zn(L)(H2O)2]n, employing the Schiff base {4-[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzylidene)-amino]-benzoic acid} (H2L). The Schiff base was obtained through the reaction of 4-aminobenzoic acid and o-vanillin under slow volatilization conditions. The resulting compound exhibits remarkable green fluorescence emission properties, indicating its potential as a novel fluorescent and sensing material. Hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid (HA) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), denoted as HA/CMCS hydrogels, were synthesized using a chemical method. Additionally, we utilized bleomycin as a model drug to synthesize a novel bleomycin metal gel and assessed its anti-hemangioma activity. Molecular docking simulations revealed that the Zn complex can form stable bonds with the key target, involving the methoxy and carboxyl groups on the Zn complex.

RESUMEN

Background: Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) has become a global problem due to the highly addictive nature of methamphetamine. Earlier research have demonstrated that PROK2 functions as a compensatory and protective response against neurotoxic stress by stimulating astrocyte reactivity. The aim of our study was to evaluate the correlation between the PROK2 gene and both MUD risk susceptibility and craving scale in the Chinese Han population. Methods: A total of 5,282 participants (1,796 MUD patients and 3,486 controls) were recruited. Seven tag SNPs of the PROK2 gene were chosen and genotyped in the samples. Genetic association analyses were performed to capture the significant SNPs. To investigate the relationship between PROK2 levels and craving scores with the associated-SNP genotypes, we conducted a linear model. Results: SNP rs75433452 was significantly linked with MUD risk (p-value = 1.54 × 10-8), with the A allele being positively correlated with an increased risk of MUD. Moreover, the average serum level of PROK2 decreased when more copies of the A allele were presented in both MUD patients (p-value = 4.57 × 10-6) and controls (p-value = 1.13 × 10-5). Furthermore, the genotypes of SNP rs75433452 were strongly correlated with the craving scores in MUD patients (p-value = 4.05 × 10-4). Conclusion: Our study identified a significant association signal of the PROK2 gene with MUD risk susceptibility and methamphetamine craving scores in the Chinese Han population, providing potential valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of METH dependence.

RESUMEN

Haemangiomas (HAs) are prevalent vascular endothelial cell tumours. With respect to the possible involvement of HIF-1α in HAs, we have explored its role in haemangioma endothelial cell (HemEC) proliferation and apoptosis. shRNA HIF-1α and pcDNA3.1 HIF-α were manipulated into HemECs. HIF-α, VEGF, and VEGFR-2 mRNA and protein levels were assessed by qRT-PCR and Western blotting. Cell proliferation and viability, cell cycle and apoptosis, migration and invasion, and ability to form tubular structures were assessed by colony formation assay, CCK-8, flow cytometry, Transwell assay, and tube formation assay. Cell cycle-related protein levels, and VEGF and VEGFR-2 protein interaction were detected by Western blot and immunoprecipitation assays. An Haemangioma nude mouse model was established by subcutaneous injection of HemECs. Ki67 expression was determined by immunohistochemical staining. HIF-1α silencing suppressed HemEC neoplastic behaviour and promoted apoptosis. HIF-1α facilitated VEGF/VEGFR-2 expression and the VEGF had interacted with VEGFR-2 at protein - protein level. HIF-1α silencing arrested HemECs at G0/G1 phase, diminished Cyclin D1 protein level, and elevated p53 protein level. VEGF overexpression partially abrogated the effects of HIF-1α knockdown on inhibiting HemEC malignant behaviours. Inhibiting HIF-1α in nude mice with HAs repressed tumour growth and Ki67-positive cells. Briefly, HIF-1α regulated HemEC cell cycle through VEGF/VEGFR-2, thus promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) is common cancer caused by environmental factors and genetic ones. Previous evidence has linked gene MAGUK P55 Scaffold Protein 7 (MPP7) to BC, despite that there has been no research evaluating the relationship between MPP7 genetic polymorphisms and BC susceptibility. We aimed to investigate the potential association of the MPP7 gene with the susceptibility to BC in Han Chinese individuals. METHODS: In total, 1390 patients with BC and 2480 controls were enrolled. For genotyping, 20 tag SNPs were chosen. The serum levels of protein MPP7 were measured in all subjects using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Genetic association analysis was performed in both genotypic and allelic modes, and the relationship between BC patients' clinical features and genotypes of relevant SNPs was examined. The functional implications of significant markers were also evaluated. RESULTS: After adjusting for Bonferroni correction, SNP rs1937810 was found to be significantly associated with the risk of BC (p = 1.19 × 10-4 ). The odds ratio of CC genotypes in BC patients was 49% higher than in controls (1.49 [1.23-1.81]). Serum MPP7 protein levels were significantly higher in BC patients than in controls (p < 0.001). The protein level of the CC genotype was the highest, and that of the CT and TT genotypes decreased in turn (both p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our results linked SNP rs1937810 to the susceptibility of BC and the clinical features of BC patients. This SNP is also proved to be significantly related to the serum level of protein MPP7 in both BC patients and controls.

RESUMEN

Background: Previous studies have revealed a high comorbidity between premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and depression; however, whether PMS can longitudinally predict depression has not been examined in large sample studies. Methods: This study surveyed 8,133 women from the 1973-78 cohort of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health. Participants completed seven repeated measurements at 3-year intervals starting in 2000 (aged 22-27 years). Binary logistic and multivariate ordered logistic regression models were used to examine the predictive role of self-reported frequency of PMS symptoms in 2000 on self-reported diagnosis of depression and frequency of depressive symptoms, respectively, for each follow-up survey. Results: Self-reported frequency of PMS symptoms in the year 2000 predicted self-reported diagnosis of depression in most follow-up surveys. Specifically, compared to women who reported "never" had PMS symptoms in 2000, those who reported "often" had them were more likely to report a diagnosis of depression in 2006 (OR = 1.72), 2012 (OR = 1.88), 2015 (OR = 1.49), and 2018 (OR = 1.90); and those who reported "sometimes" had PMS symptoms in 2000 were more likely to report a diagnosis of depression in 2012 (OR =1.37) and 2018 (OR = 1.59). Furthermore, self-reported frequency of PMS symptoms in 2000 predicted self-reported frequency of depressive symptoms in each follow-up survey. Compared to women who reported "never" had PMS symptoms in 2000, those who reported "sometimes", or "often", had PMS symptoms reported depressive symptoms more frequently. Conclusion: Self-reported frequency of PMS can predict the self-reported frequency of depressive symptoms and the subsequent diagnosis of depression.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to study the influence of the interactive budget on enterprise innovation performance from the perspective of managerial psychology, and to examine the mediating effect of managers' stress and the moderating effect of environmental turbulence in this influence. The study collected 228 managers' data in the Yangtze River Delta region of China through online questionnaires; the structural equation model is constructed by IBM SPSS Amos 24.0, and the data is analyzed by Mplus 7.4 and IBM SPSS 23.0. The results showed that: (1) an interactive budget positively affects enterprise innovation performance; (2) the role stress of managers plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between an interactive budget and enterprise innovation performance; (3) environmental turbulence positively moderates the relationship between the interactive budget and enterprise innovation performance; and (4) the positive effect of the interactive budget on enterprise innovation performance is more significant in enterprises with a high proportion of female managers, and the negative effect on the role stress of managers is more significant in high-tech enterprises. In theory, the results enrich the research on the impact of an interactive budget on individual managers' psychology, and further reveals the "black box" of the impact of an interactive budget on enterprise innovation performance; in practice, the results make enterprises attach importance to the influence of control environments on the psychological health of managers, and provides a reference for enterprises to use control methods rationally to promote innovation in budget management.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND Myopia has been shown to be associated with many pathological complications including cataracts, and previous evidence supported that high myopia facilitates the formation of cataracts. However, no studies have identified a link between the genetic susceptibility of high myopia-induced cataracts (HMC) and the underlying genetic mechanisms. Our study aimed to determine how the TRIB2 and CAPRIN2 genes correlate to the risk of HMC. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, we successfully recruited 3162 participants, including 1026 participants with high myopia and cataracts and 2136 controls with high myopia only. For genotyping, 22 tag single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TRIB2 and CAPRIN2 genes were chosen. Single marker association analysis and functional effects of significant SNPs were carried out. RESULTS Strong correlation signals were captured for SNP rs890069 (χ²=22.13, P=2.55×10-6) in TRIB2 and SNP rs17739338 (χ²=16.07, P=6.10×10-5) in CAPRIN2. In patients with high myopia, the C allele at SNP rs890069 was strongly linked to cataract risk (OR [95% CI]=1.36 [1.20-1.55]). In patients with high myopia, the T allele at SNP rs17739338 was significantly related to a lower risk of cataract (OR [95% CI]=0.54 [0.40-0.74]). In different types of human tissues, SNPs rs890069 and rs17739338 were found to be significantly correlated to the levels of TRIB2 and CAPRIN2 gene expression. CONCLUSIONS Our study indicated that both TRIB2 and CAPRIN2 genes conferred the susceptibility to cataract in patients with high myopia and Chinese Han ancestry. Future research remains necessary for fully understanding the pathogenic mechanisms and genetic characteristics of cataract.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Diet is fundamental to maintaining and improving human health. There is ample evidence identifying the beneficial and/or harmful effects of diet on noncommunicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. However, the associations of the diet to chronic venous disease has not been fully described. METHODS: Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey conducted on 1,571 community-dwelling adults in 2018. Diet intake frequency was assessed using valid food group consumption frequency questionnaires. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association of diet with chronic venous disease. RESULTS: In total, 857 participants were diagnosed with chronic venous disease. Those who ate soybean products daily and 4-6 days/week had a 51-31% lower risk of chronic venous disease compared with those who only occasionally consumed soybean food, respectively. Participants who consumed eggs and egg products 1-3 days/week versus those who only occasionally ate eggs showed a lower risk of chronic venous disease [odds ratio (OR) 0.542, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.375-0.782]. Eating fried food 4-6 days each week was associated with an increased risk of chronic venous disease (OR 3.872, 95% CI 1.263-11.599) compared with those who only occasionally ate fried foods. There is a decreasing tendency of the adjusted OR for eating soybean products daily with the severity of disease [chronic venous disease (C0-C2): OR 0.575, 95% CI 0.408-0.812; chronic venous insufficiency (C3-C6): OR 0.222, 95% CI 0.114-0.435]. CONCLUSIONS: A higher frequency in the consumption of soybean products and eggs were associated with a lower risk of chronic venous disease. High level of fried food consumption was positively associated with risk of chronic venous disease. There are certain specific trends in relation to dietary consumption and severity of disease, although these trends were less strong. These associations are largely independent of other dietary and nondietary factors.

RESUMEN

Background and purpose: Parkinson's disease is a common degenerative disease of the central nervous system with complex pathogenesis. More and more studies have found that inflammatory response promotes the occurrence and development of the disease, in which the activation of microglia plays an important role. PGC-1α (peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α) is the main factor in mitochondrial biogenetic, and is closely related to the inflammatory response. Our immunofluorescence test results showed that PGC-1α and microglia (Iba1) have double-labeled phenomenon. The expression of microglia in the MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine) group increased, and PGC-1α/Iba1 double label increased. To test whether lowering the expression of PGC-1α can reduce the activation of microglia and protect the substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons, we constructed PGC-1α interference lentivirus. Methods: Immunofluorescence, western blot, and ELISA were used to detect microglial phenotype. Results: The results showed that PGC-1α interfering with lentivirus can transfect microglial cells in substantia nigra, and the PGC-1α protein level decreased in substantia nigra accordingly; TH protein expression had no statistical difference compared with MPTP group; PGC-1α interfering lentivirus reduced microglia number and activation, and at the same time the expression of iNOS and Arg1 significantly reduced compared with MPTP group. The IL-6 expression in blood detected using ELISA was significantly reduced compared with MPTP group. Conclusion: PGC-1α downregulation inhibited microglia activity, and both M1 and M2 microglial activities are reduced.

RESUMEN

This study examined the mediating role of guanxi harmony, a concept of interpersonal relationships specific to the Chinese context, between leaders' emotion regulation strategies and employee motivation. Data were drawn from 489 on-the-job MBA students with enough management experience from thirteen different types of cities in China. The study tested the model using hierarchical regression. The results showed that the reappraisal strategy was positively related to employee motivation and the suppression strategy was negatively related to employee motivation in the Chinese context. Guanxi harmony played a partially mediating role between reappraisal and employee motivation, and played a fully mediating role between suppression and employee motivation. These findings suggest that in the Chinese context, guanxi harmony between leaders and employees has a positive effect on employee motivation, and when leaders apply appropriate emotion regulation strategies, they can achieve guanxi harmony and promote employee motivation.

RESUMEN

Previous studies have reported that test anxiety is closely related to unreasonable cognitive patterns and maladaptive emotional responses. However, its underlying brain structural and functional basis has not been thoroughly studied. This study aimed to evaluate the potential difference in local gyration index (LGI) and corresponding resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) in individuals with high test anxiety (HTA) compared with low test anxiety (LTA). Twenty-six individuals with HTA and 28 individuals with LTA underwent T1-weighted structural and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scans. Using FreeSurfer software, we contrasted the LGI between the HTA and LTA groups using a surface-based general linear model to map group contrasts on a vertex-by-vertex basis. By selecting the cortical regions with significant differences in the LGI analysis as the regions of interest, the seed-based RSFC analysis was further carried out using the Resting-State fMRI Data Analysis Toolkit to examine the differences in the functional connectivity of these cortical regions with the whole brain between the two groups. The results showed that the LGI in several cortical regions of the executive control network (ECN) and the right lateral occipital gyrus was lower in the HTA group than in the LTA group. Furthermore, compared with the LTA group, the HTA group exhibited abnormal RSFC within the ECN, between the ECN and the visual network, and between the ECN and the sensorimotor network. Our findings might provide preliminary evidence for brain morphology and functional alterations in individuals with HTA and contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of TA.

RESUMEN

The adenosine A2A receptor (ADORA2A) is highly expressed in the central nervous system and plays vital roles in drug addiction. In this study, we aimed to explore the susceptibility of ADORA2A to methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) and the craving degree based on a two-stage association analysis. A total of 3,542 (1,216 patients with MUD and 2,326 controls) and 1,740 participants (580 patients with MUD and 1,160 controls) were recruited in discovery and replication stage, respectively. Significant SNPs identified in the discovery stage were genotyped in the replication samples. Serum levels of ADORA2A were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. The genetic association signal of each SNP was examined using Plink. A linear model was fitted to investigate the relationship between craving scores and genotypes of significant SNPs. SNP rs5751876 was significantly associated with MUD in the discovery samples and this association signal was then further replicated in the replication samples. Significant associations were also identified between serum levels of ADORA2A and the genotypes of rs5751876 (P = 0.0002). The craving scores in patients with MUD were strongly correlated with rs5751876 genotypes. Our results suggest that polymorphisms of the ADORA2A gene could affect the susceptibility to MUD and its craving degree.

RESUMEN

Objectives: Methamphetamine (METH) is a central nervous psychostimulant and one of the most frequently used illicit drugs. Numerous genetic loci that influence complex traits, including alcohol abuse, have been discovered; however, genetic analyses for METH dependence remain limited. An increased histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) expression has been detected in Fos-positive neurons in the dorsomedial striatum following withdrawal after METH self-administration. Herein, we aimed to systematically investigate the contribution of HDAC3 to the vulnerability to METH dependence in a Han Chinese population. Methods: In total, we recruited 1,221 patients with METH dependence and 2,328 age- and gender-matched controls. For genotyping, we selected 14 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located within ± 3 kb regions of HDAC3. The associations between genotyped genetic polymorphisms and the vulnerability to METH dependence were examined by single marker- and haplotype-based methods using PLINK. The effects of expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) on targeted gene expressions were investigated using the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) database. Results: The SNP rs14251 was identified as a significant association signal (χ2 = 9.84, P = 0.0017). An increased risk of METH dependence was associated with the A allele (minor allele) of rs14251 [odds ratio (95% CI) = 1.25 (1.09-1.43)]. The results of in silico analyses suggested that SNP rs14251 could be a potential eQTL signal for FCHSD1, PCDHGB6, and RELL2, but not for HDAC3, in various human tissues. Conclusion: We demonstrated that genetic polymorphism rs14251 located at 5q31.3 was significantly associated with the vulnerability to METH dependence in Han Chinese population.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Individuals with high test anxiety (HTA) have deficits in attentional control and in stress responses when faced with tests. However, little is known about the underlying neural mechanism. Anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is involved in both attention and emotion networks, therefore this study examined the neural functional dysregulation in test anxiety from the perspective of functional connectivity (FC) using bilateral ACC as the regions of interest. METHODS: Fifty-one participants were divided into HTA (n = 23) and low test anxiety (LTA, n = 28) group according to their Test Anxiety Scale (TAS) scores. Brain imaging data in resting, preparing, and recovering phases of a modified social evaluative threat task were collected, and emotional changes were assessed. RESULTS: Compared with the LTA group, the HTA group exhibited significantly lower FCs between the ACC and superior frontal gyrus (SFG) in all 3 phases, significantly lower FCs between the ACC and inferior parietal gyrus (IPG), and significantly higher FCs between the ACC superior temporal gyrus (STG) in the preparing phase. Moreover, in the HTA group, the resting state IPG-ACC FC was associated with their TAS score, the preparing state STG-ACC FC was associated with the increased anxiety. CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with HTA have general prefrontal control deficits. When facing a test, they tend to recruit more resources to deal with high emotional interference. The dysregulated control of the ACC by the frontal-parietal network may underlie the pathophysiology of test anxiety.

RESUMEN

Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has seriously threatened the mental health of college students. This study intended to invest whether perceived threat avoidability of COVID-19 relates to psychic anxiety among college students during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the mediating roles of COVID-19-specific wishful thinking and COVID-19-specific protective behaviors in this relationship. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in China, using a random sampling method (February 6-25, 2020). Self-reported questionnaires were conducted online included the Perceived Threat Avoidability of COVID-19 Scale, COVID-19-specific Wishful Thinking Scale, COVID-19-specific Protective Behaviors Scale, and the Hamilton Psychogenic Anxiety Scale. The data were analyzed using Structural equation modeling and Bootstrapping procedure. Results: A total of 2922 samples were collected in this study. Perceived threat avoidability of COVID-19 is negatively related to psychic anxiety (ß = -0.158, p< 0.001), and both COVID-19-specific wishful thinking (ß = -0.006, p = 0.029, 95% CI: [-0.012, -0.001]) and protective behaviors (ß = -0.029, p< 0.001, 95% CI: [-0.043, -0.018]) mediate this relationship. Also, COVID-19-specific wishful thinking is found to correlate with COVID-19-specific protective behaviors negatively (ß = -0.112, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Perceived threat avoidability of COVID-19 contributes to psychic anxiety among college students. COVID-19-specific wishful thinking strategy plays a negative mediating role and increases the level of anxiety; COVID-19-specific protective behaviors strategy plays a positive mediating role and reduces the level of anxiety; meanwhile, wishful thinking also suppresses college students from adopting protective behaviors.

RESUMEN

Applying Fear Appeals Theory and Social Learning Theory, this study aims to explore the impact of perceived threat on psychic anxiety among college students in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the mediating roles of response efficacy and self-efficacy. An empirical study was conducted using an online cross-sectional survey in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020. A random sampling method was applied to administer questionnaires to 646 Chinese college students. The results showed that: (1) the perceived threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, including perceived susceptibility and severity, was positively correlated with psychic anxiety; (2) self-efficacy mediated the effect of both perceived susceptibility and severity on psychic anxiety, while the response efficacy only mediated the effect of perceived susceptibility on psychic anxiety; and (3) response efficacy and self-efficacy played a serial mediating role on the relationship between perceived susceptibility and psychic anxiety. This study elucidates the relationship between perceived threat and psychic anxiety from the perspective of cognitive appraisal of threat, showing the role positive efficacy appraisal played in reducing psychic anxiety, which could be induced by the perceived threat of major public health emergencies such as COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMEN

The lack of a reliable and easy-to-operate screening pipeline for disease-related noncoding RNA regulatory axis is a problem that needs to be solved urgently. To address this, we designed a hybrid pipeline, disease-related lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axis prediction from multiomics (DLRAPom), to identify risk biomarkers and disease-related lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes by adding a novel machine learning model on the basis of conventional analysis and combining experimental validation. The pipeline consists of four parts, including selecting hub biomarkers by conventional bioinformatics analysis, discovering the most essential protein-coding biomarkers by a novel machine learning model, extracting the key lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA axis and validating experimentally. Our study is the first one to propose a new pipeline predicting the interactions between lncRNA and miRNA and mRNA by combining WGCNA and XGBoost. Compared with the methods reported previously, we developed an Optimized XGBoost model to reduce the degree of overfitting in multiomics data, thereby improving the generalization ability of the overall model for the integrated analysis of multiomics data. With applications to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), we predicted nine risk protein-coding biomarkers and some potential lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes, which all correlated with GDM. In those regulatory axes, the MALAT1/hsa-miR-144-3p/IRS1 axis was predicted to be the key axis and was identified as being associated with GDM for the first time. In short, as a flexible pipeline, DLRAPom can contribute to molecular pathogenesis research of diseases, effectively predicting potential disease-related noncoding RNA regulatory networks and providing promising candidates for functional research on disease pathogenesis.

RESUMEN

Despite the documented individual, job, and organizational antecedents of cyberloafing at the workplace, few studies have addressed whether, how and when group factors affect employees' cyberloafing behaviors. Drawing on social learning theory and general deterrence theory, the purpose of this study is to test if observability of coworkers' cyberloafing behavior affects employees' perceptions of norms related to cyberloafing and subsequent cyberloafing behaviors and to test if sanctions can play a role in buffering these effects. An investigation of 335 employees working at Chinese enterprises establishes that observing others engaging in cyberloafing influences the employees' perceived norms and cyberloafing behaviors and that employees' perceived norms related to cyberloafing play a partial mediating role in the relationship between observability and employees' cyberloafing. As predicted, we also found that perceived certainty and severity of potential sanctions for cyberloafing moderate the effect of observability on employees' cyberloafing as well as the indirect effect of observability on employees' cyberloafing via perceived norms related to cyberloafing. This study enriched the cyberloafing literature by revealing how observability of cyberloafing influences employees' cyberloafing and by unveiling two boundary conditions under which the cyberloafing learning effect can be buffered.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: In the present study, we evaluated the feasibility of a self-expanding venous stent for treating iliofemoral venous obstruction. METHODS: The present retrospective study reviewed the data from 49 patients who had undergone Zilver Vena (Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind) stent placement for treatment of iliofemoral venous obstruction from September 2017 to March 2019. All patients had undergone received follow-up duplex ultrasound examinations to assess for stent patency. The Villalta scores and Venous Clinical Severity Scores (VCSSs) were also calculated to stratify the postoperative improvement in disease. RESULTS: Of the 49 patients, 19 had had acute deep vein thrombosis, 7, nonthrombotic iliac venous lesions, and 23, post-thrombotic syndrome. At 1 year after Zilver Vena stent placement, the primary, assisted primary, and secondary patency rates were 93.8%, 95.9%, and 97.9%, respectively. The baseline median Villalta score before treatment for those with post-thrombotic syndrome was 19 (range, 11-30), and the median VCSS for the patients with post-thrombotic syndrome and nonthrombotic iliac venous lesions was 11 (range, 6-25). At 1 year after stent placement, the median Villalta score for the post-thrombotic syndrome patients was 4.0 (range, 2-18), and the median VCSS for the post-thrombotic syndrome and nonthrombotic iliac venous lesions patients was 3.0 (range, 2-12). CONCLUSIONS: Venous placement of self-expanding stents offers excellent 1-year patency rates and improved the outcomes of patients with iliofemoral venous obstruction caused by acute deep vein thrombosis, nonthrombotic iliac venous lesions, and post-thrombotic syndrome.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Homocysteine (Hcy) is considered as a modifiable risk factor for vascular disease. This study was aimed to explore the association between serum concentration and the severity of primary chronic venous disease (CVD). METHODS: Clinical data of 582 patients diagnosed with primary CVD were collected and analyzed retrospectively. The Clinical Etiology Anatomy Pathophysiology classification system was used to grade the severity of chronic venous disease. Patients were divided into 2 groups (group A: C1-C3; group B: C4-C6). The association between serum homocysteine levels and the severity of primary chronic venous disease was investigated using rank sum test and logistic regression. RESULTS: The difference between the level of homocysteine in each grade has statistical significance. Group A has higher median Hcy concentrations than Group B (15.40 µmol/L vs. 14.05 µmol/L, P< 0.01). Further binary logistic regression showed no statistical significance among the level of Hcy (11.00-14.75 µmol/L [OR 0.66, 95% CI 0.40-1.11, P= 0.12], 14.75-20.38µmol/L [OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.59-1.69, P = 0.89], ≥20.38 µmol/L [OR 0.67, 95% CI 0.41-1.10, P = 0.11]), but age (OR 1.03, 95% CI 1.01-1.04, P< 0.01) and female (OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.28-0.59, P< 0.01) are associated with more severe stages of CVD. CONCLUSIONS: Higher level of Hcy is associated with more severe stages of CVD, but it not an independent risk factor. However, Advanced age and female are risk factors for CVD development based on logistic regression analysis.
