RESUMEN

Estuarine habitats are a critical zone of the Earth with strong land-sea interactions, that are strongly influenced by human activities. Microplastics (MPs) pollution in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) wetland, a typical young warm-temperate estuarine wetland, has not been comprehensively studied. The morphology, abundance, particle size, and polymer composition of MPs in the surface sediments of the YRD wetland were determined, and the pollution status and ecological risk in the study area were evaluated using the pollution load index (PLI) and potential pollution risk index (PRI). The results showed that the abundance of MPs in the YRD wetland was 20-520 n·kg-1, with a median value of 150 n·kg-1. The MPs were primarily fibers in shape and black in color, with particle size over 1 mm. The polymer components were primarily rayon, polyethylene, polyester, and polyethylene terephthalate. The PLI and PRI values of the MPs in the area were between 0.04-0.96 and 0.00-171.60, respectively, indicating that the pollution of MPs in the YRD wetland was at a slightly polluted level with low ecological risk.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate role and clinical significance of CDK13 in breast cancer patients. METHODS: A total of 189 cases of breast cancer were enrolled during March 2013 to March 2015. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used for measurement of CDK13, HIF-1α and beclin1. Clinical characteristics of age, BMI, TNM stage, pathological types, and tumor diameter, were recorded. Patients' 5-year overall survival and recurrence were followed up. All patients were followed up for 5 years or to the last follow-up. RESULTS: The expression levels of CDK13 and HIF-1αin breast cancer tissues were up-regulated and beclin1 was down-regulated than in the paracancerous non-tumor tissues. CDK13 was positively correlated with HIF-1α and negatively correlated with beclin1 in breast cancer tissues. The patients with higher expression of CDK13 showed significantly higher rates of TNM III-IV, higher rates of lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and larger tumor size. The mortality and recurrence rates were higher in high expression CDK13 patients than in low CDK13 expression patients, however with no significant difference. K-M curve showed patients with higher CDK13 showed lower 5-year overall survival and lower disease-free survival time, however with no significant difference. CONCLUSION: CDK13 was overexpressed in breast cancer tissues, and patients with higher CDK13 had poorer clinical outcomes. Further studies are still needed to reveal the clinical significance of CDK13 in breast cancer.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Norepinephrine (NE) has currently been the first-choice vasopressor in treating septic shock despite generally insufficient for patients with refractory septic shock. The aim of this update meta-analysis was to assess the safety and efficacy of a combination of non-catecholamine vasopressors (vasopressin/pituitrin/terlipressin/selepressin/angiotensin II) and NE versus NE in managing adult septic shock patients. METHODS: We conducted this study of literatures published from the inception to April 30, 2020, using PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases without language restriction. Randomized controlled trials comparing NE with non-catecholamine vasopressors among adult septic shock patients were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled effects of relative risk (RR) or standard mean difference (SMD) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. RESULTS: Twenty-three studies covering 4380 participants were finally enrolled. The combined analysis of non-catecholamine vasopressors resulted in a nonsignificant reduction in 90-day/ICU/hospital mortality except for a decreased in 28-day mortality (n = 4217; RR, 0.92; 95% CI 0.86-0.99; P = 0.02). This favorable result was subsequently verified by the subgroup analyses of low risk of bias studies (RR = 0.91, 95% CI = 0.84 to 0.98; P = 0.02) and catecholamine-resistant refractory shock patients group (RR, 0.84; 95% CI = 0.70-1.00; P = 0.048). The pooled analysis of non-catecholamine vasopressors showed a 14% higher success rate of shock reversal at 6 h, a 29% decreased risk of continuous renal replacement therapy, but a 51% increased risk of hyponatremia and a 2.43 times higher risk of digital ischemia. Besides, the pooled data showed that non-catecholamine vasopressors decreased heart rate (HR) (SMD, - 0.43; 95% CI - 0.66 - - 0.19; P < 0.001), serum creatinine (- 0.15; 95% CI - 0.29 - - 0.01; P = 0.04), and the length of mechanical ventilation (MV) (- 0.19; 95% CI - 0.31 - - 0.07; P < 0.01, but there was no significant difference in other parameters. CONCLUSIONS: Current pooled results suggest that the addition of NE to non-catecholamine vasopressors was associated with a marginally significant reduction in 28-day mortality. Moreover, they were able to shorten the length of MV, improved renal function, decreased HR, and increased the 6-h shock reversal success rate at the expense of increased the risk of hyponatremia and digital ischemia.

RESUMEN

The cooperativity effects between H-bonding and Na(+)⋯π or Na(+)⋯σ interactions in Na(+)⋯benzonitrile⋯H2O complexes were investigated using the B3LYP and MP2(full) methods with 6-311++G(2d,p) and aug-cc-pVTZ basis sets. The thermodynamic cooperativity and the influence of this cooperativity on aromaticity was evaluated by nucleus-independent chemical shifts (NICS). The results showed that the influence of the Na(+)⋯σ or Na(+)⋯π interaction on the hydrogen bond is more pronounced than that of the latter on the former. The cooperativity effect appeared in the Na(+)⋯σ interaction complex while the anti-cooperativity effect tended to be in the Na(+)⋯π system. The change in enthalpy is the major factor driving cooperativity. Thermodynamic cooperativity is not in accordance with the cooperativity effect evaluated by the change of interaction energy. The ring aromaticity of is weakened while the bond dissociation energy (BDE) of the C-CN bond increases upon ternary complex formation. The cooperativity effect (E coop) correlates with R c (NICS(1)ternary/NICS(1)binary) and ΔΔδ (Δδ ternary - Δδ binary) involving the ring and C ≡ N bond, as well as R BDE(C-CN) [BDE(C-CN)ternary/BDE(C-CN)binary], respectively. AIM (atoms in molecules) analysis confirms the existence of cooperativity.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Dynesys dynamic stabilization system was first implanted in patients in 1994, and introduced to China in 2007. Therefore, it was a new technique for Chinese orthopedics and hence necessary to collect clinical data about Dynesys in China. The objective of this study was to report the preliminary results of Dynesys for the lumbar degenerative disease in China. METHODS: Twenty-seven patients were treated with the Dynesys between July 2007 and January 2009. The diagnosis included degenerative spondylolisthesis (12 cases), degenerative spinal stenosis (nine cases), and lumbar intervertebral disc herniation (six cases). Back pain and leg pain were evaluated using 100-mm visual analog scales (VAS). The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used to evaluate the patients' function. The intervertebral disc height and range of motion at the operative level were taken on radiographs. RESULTS: All the patients were followed-up, with an average of (22.40 ± 4.23) months (range 15-32 months). VAS of back pain and leg pain were improved significantly (P < 0.05) at follow-up. The ODI scores were reduced from (62.58 ± 12.01)% preoperatively to (15.01 ± 5.71)% at follow-up (P < 0.05). The preoperative mean height of the intervertebral disc was (11.21 ± 1.58) mm (range 8.5-13.8 mm) and mean was (10.10 ± 1.78) mm (range 7.0-13.4 mm) at follow-up (P < 0.05). The mean range of motion of the implanted segment was (6.00 ± 1.79)° (range 2.5-9.3°) preoperatively and (5.47 ± 1.27)° (range 2.9-7.8°) at follow-up (P = 0.11). CONCLUSIONS: The preliminary results of Dynesys for the lumbar degenerative disease in China are similar to the published results of other countries. It can significantly improve the clinic symptoms and preserved motion at the level of implantation. However, the long-term follow-up data need to be collected.

RESUMEN

The microstructure and fracture morphology of carbon coatings were investigated by means of Raman spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on the surface of SiC fiber with C2 H2 + H2 and C2 H2 +C3 H8 + Ar as the reactants. The results show that the spectra of the carbon coating contain characteristic D, D" and G peaks around 1 350, 1 400-1 500 and 1 600 cm(-1) respectively, indicating a disordered-graphite structure with a small amount of amorphous carbon. The size of microcrystallite increased with the increase in temperature, and the degree of order, together with the uniformity in the carbon coating was improved simultaneously. It was observed on the fracture surface that coatings prepared by C2 H2 + H2 are flat and dense, whereas those prepared by C2 H2 + C3 H8 + Ar exhibit a flexural lamellar structure, which should be attributed to the relatively low degree of order and the non-uniformity in the microstructure.

RESUMEN

Molecular imaging of thrombus formation at initial stage requires a robust thrombus-specific contrast agent with high sensitivity. In this study, we report a novel P-selectin-targeted paramagnetic molecular imaging agent and the agent's potential to sensitively detect occult microthrombi on the intimal surface of endothelium. Platelet clots and blood clots targeted in vitro with paramagnetic nanoparticles presented a highly detectable, homogeneous T1-weighted contrast enhancement that was improved with increasing gadolinium level. In vivo contrast enhancement under part of circulation conditions was assessed in dogs. The micro-thrombi around the femoral vein of dog demonstrated higher signal intensities than the control clots and the adjacent muscle. Histology was performed on regions likely to contain thrombus as indicated by MRI. These results suggest that molecular imaging of P-selectin-targeted paramagnetic nanoparticles can provide sensitive detection and localization of P-selectin and may allow for early, direct identification of microthrombi, leading to early diagnosis.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to find an accurate and feasible measurement technique for the inner ear structures using computed tomography and to check the inter-observer agreement METHODS: Sixty patients without abnormal structure of temporal bones confirmed by means of high-resolution computed tomography were included in this study. The multi-planar reformations (MPR) were performed to show the maximum profile of cochlear, and to measure the height and width of cochlear. Areas of bony island encircled by three semicircular canals were measured on the MPR images that could show the whole canal. The data measured by two readers independently was compared to check the inter-observer agreement. RESULTS: The application of MPR yielded satisfactory anatomic presentation of inner ear for radiologic measurements. There was good inter-observer agreement revealed by the paired t-test and correlation analysis (P>0.05, r>0.9). The height of cochlear (x+/-s) was (4.26+/-0.28) mm while the width of cochlear was (7.03+/-0.39) mm. The areas of bony islands encircled by the anterior, posterior and lateral semicircular canals were (25.49+/-3.84) mm2, (20.07+/-2.93) mm2 and (11.50+/-1.94) mm2, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: MPR can display structures of cochlear and semicircular canals on planes along their central axis. Normative measurements on these MPR images derive excellent repeatability and provide reliable morphologic parameters of inner ear structures.
