RESUMEN

The improvement of sandy soils with poor seismic properties to modify their dynamic characteristics is of great importance in seismic design for engineering sites. In this study, a series of dynamic tests on sandy soils sandy soils with poor seismic conditions were conducted using the GCTS resonant column system to investigate the improvements effects of different cement contents on dynamic characteristic parameters. The research findings are as follows: The cement content has certain influences on the dynamic shear modulus, dynamic shear modulus ratio, the maximum dynamic shear modulus, and the damping ratio of sandy soils with poor seismic properties. Among them, the influence on dynamic shear modulus is limited, while the damping ratio is significantly affected. The addition of cement to seismic-poor sandy soils significantly enhances their dynamic characteristics. The most noticeable improvement is observed when the cement content is 8%. Through curve fitting analysis, a relationship equation is established between the maximum dynamic shear modulus and the cement content, and the relevant parameters are provided. A comparative test between the improved soils and the remolded soils reveals that the addition of cement significantly improves the seismic performance of the poor soils. The recommended values for the range of variation of the dynamic shear modulus ratio and damping ratio are provided, considering the effect of improvement. These research findings provide reference guidelines for seismic design and engineering sites.

RESUMEN

Aminium ions, as crucial alkaline components within fine atmospheric particles, have a notable influence on new particle formation and haze occurrence. Their concentrations within coastal atmosphere depict considerable variation due to the interplay of distinctive marine and terrestrial sources, further complicated by dynamic meteorological conditions. This study conducted a comprehensive examination of aminiums ions concentrations, with a particular focus on methylaminium (MMAH+), dimethylaminium (DMAH+), trimethylaminium (TMAH+), and triethylaminium (TEAH+) within PM2.5, over varying seasons (summer, autumn, and winter of 2019 and summer of 2021), at an urban site in the coastal megacity of Qingdao, Northern China. The investigations revealed that the total concentration of particulate aminium ions (∑Aminium) was 21.6 ± 23.6 ng/m3, exhibiting higher values in the autumn and winter compared to the two summer periods. Considering diurnal variations during autumn and winter, concentrations of particulate aminium ions (excluding TEAH+) exhibited a slight increase during the day compared to night, with a notable peak during the morning hours. However, it was not the case for TEAH+, which was argued to be readily oxidized by ambient oxidants in the afternoon. Additionally, the ∑Aminium within the summer demonstrated markedly elevated levels during the day compared to night, potentially attributed to daytime sea fog associated with sea-land breeze interactions. Positive matrix factorization results indicate terrestrial anthropogenic emissions, including vehicle emission mixed with road dust and primary pollution, as the primary sources of MMAH+ and DMAH+. Conversely, TMAH+ was predominantly emitted from agricultural and marine sources. With the dominance of sea breeze in summer, TMAH+ was identified as a primary marine emission correlated with sea salt, while MMAH+, DMAH+, and TEAH+ were postulated to undergo secondary formation. Furthermore, a notable inverse correlation was observed between TMAH+ and methanesulfonate in PM2.5, consistent with dynamic emissions of sulfur-content and nitrogen-content gases reported in the literature.

RESUMEN

Liver fibrosis, a critical pathological feature of chronic liver diseases, arises from a multitude of pathogenic factors. Consequently, establishing an appropriate animal model to simulate liver fibrosis holds immense significance for comprehending its underlying pathogenesis. Despite the numerous methodologies available for generating liver fibrosis models, they often deviate substantially from the spontaneous age-related liver fibrosis process. In this study, compared with young (12 weeks) and middle-aged NOD/SCID mice (32 weeks), there were a large number of fibrous septum and collagen in the liver tissue of old NOD/SCID mice (43 weeks, 43 W). Immunohistochemical analysis unequivocally indicated heightened α-SMA content within the liver tissue of the 43 W mice, thereby underscoring aging's role in triggering the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. In addition, SA-ß-gal staining as well as P21 expression were increased, and SIRT1 and SIRT3 expression were decreased in 43 W mice. A comprehensive evaluation encompassing transmission electron microscopy and fluorescence quantitative analysis elucidated compromised mitochondrial function and reduced antioxidant capacity in hepatocytes of the 43 W mice. Furthermore, the aging process activated the pro-fibrotic TGF-ß-SMAD pathway, concurrently inducing hepatocellular inflammation. The results of the present study not only validate the successful construction of a spontaneous liver fibrosis mouse model through natural aging induction but also provide initial insights into the mechanisms underpinning age-induced liver fibrosis.

RESUMEN

Cyanoacrylates have a wide range of biological activities and are extensively applied in production and daily life. Classic synthetic routes to cyanoacrylates have many limitations. Herein, we demonstrate an elemental sulfur-promoted method for the synthesis of ß,ß-diaryl cyanoacrylates by a tandem 1,6-Michael addition/oxidation/elimination process from p-QMs and cyanoacetates under optimal conditions. The effective protocol has good substrate scopes and yields, and the ratio of inseparable E/Z isomers of cyanoacrylates is also determined by 1HNMR.

RESUMEN

This study describes an iron-catalyzed divergent oxidation of styrene into ß-hydroxylmethylketone and ketone under photo-irradiation. This divergence is ascribed to the use of styrene with various substituents. More importantly, methanol is oxidized into formaldehyde in the reaction and serves as a C1 synthon. Mechanism investigations show that the reaction is initiated by oxidative SET to transfer styrene into the cation radical. The reaction pathway undergoes HAT and ß-hydride elimination as well as a concerted cyclization. Particularly, several drug-like molecules, such as melperone analogue, lenperone analogue, and haloperidol analogue, are synthesized. In addition, this method is also applicable to the synthesis of natural product (R)-atomoxetine.

RESUMEN

A highly enantioselective cyanation of imines (up to >99 % ee) has been developed using well-designed C2 -symmetric hydrogen bonding catalysts. The catalytic strategy was characterized with low catalyst loading (0.1-1 mol %), easily accessible catalysts with diverse functional groups, and catalytic base additives. A wide range of imines, including the challenging N-Boc and N-Cbz protected ketimines and aldimines, as well as fluoroalkylated ketimines, were investigated under mild conditions to afford the products with good to excellent yields (up to 99 % yield) and high enantioselectivity (up to >99 % ee). Control experiments revealed that the multiple hydrogen bonding catalysts enhanced the reactivity and enantioselectivity of the Strecker reaction initiated by the base.

RESUMEN

A convenient and efficient tandem cyclization/sulfenylation of o-alkynyl-phenols/-anilines/enaminones for the synthesis of diverse sulfur-containing bisheterocycles has been developed using stable, odorless, and easy-to-handle elemental S8 as a building block under green chemistry conditions. Notably, a one-step simple base-mediated organic transformation affords a benzofuran (indole or chromone) ring and two C-S bonds. Attractive features of this methodology include the absence of a metal catalyst, mild conditions, good functional group tolerance, and valuable product structures.

RESUMEN

Relevant meta-analyses have confirmed the cardiovascular and renal benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RA) among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and/or cardiorenal disease. However, it is not established whether the combination therapy of SGLT2i and GLP1RA will yield an additive benefit on cardiorenal endpoints. Lopez and colleagues recently did a cohort study (Lopez et al., Am. J. Cardiol., 2022, 181, 87-93) and aimed to address this issue. However, their findings are not consistent with those of previous studies. To confirm Lopez et al.'s findings (Lopez et al., Am. J. Cardiol., 2022, 181, 87-93) and address the aforementioned inconsistencies, we conducted a meta-analysis based on relevant studies. Our meta-analysis identified that SGLT2i + GLP1RA combination therapy was significantly associated with the reduced risks of cardiovascular/cerebrovascular atherosclerotic, heart failure-associated, and death outcomes compared with SGLT2i/GLP1RA monotherapy. These might support this combination therapy used for better reducing cardiovascular and death events in T2D patients, especially in those with high or very high cardiovascular risk. This is a commentary on a previous article (Lopez et al.'s study (Lopez et al., Am. J. Cardiol., 2022, 181, 87-93)) published outside of Frontiers. Therefore, we submitted this manuscript as an Opinion article, as suggested in the Author Guidelines.

RESUMEN

The sea-land breeze (SLB) circulation plays a vital role in the transport of atmospheric pollutants in coastal cities. In this study, a single particle aerosol mass spectrometer (SPAMS) and combined bulk aerosol instruments were deployed to investigate the ambient particle characteristic at a suburban coastal site in Hong Kong from February 22 to March 10, 2013. Significant SLB circulations were captured from March 6-10, 2013, during the campaign. During the SLB periods, air quality worsened, with PM2.5 concentrations reaching a peak of 55.6 µg m-3 and an average value of 42.8 ± 4.5 µg m-3. A total of 235,894 particles were measured during the SLB stage. Eight major sources were identified by investigating the mixing states of the total particles, including the coal-burning related particles (48.1%), biomass burning particles (6.7%), vehicle emission-related particles (16.4%), sea salt (9.2%), ship emission particles (2.7%), dust/steeling industries (3.7%), waste incineration (6.3%), and road dust (3.9%). It was noteworthy that the PM2.5 concentrations and particle numbers increased sharply during the transition of land wind to the sea breeze. Meanwhile, the continental sourced pollutants recirculated back to land resulting in a cumulative increase in pollutants. Both individual and bulk measurements support the above results, with high contributions from coal burning, biomass burning, bulk K+, and NO3 -, which were probably from the regional transportation from the nearby area. In contrast, the ship and vehicle emissions increased during the SLB period, with a high sulfate concentration partially originating from the ship emission. In this study, field evidence of continental-source pollutants backflow to land with the evolution of sea breeze was observed and helped our current understanding of the effect of SLB on air quality in the coastal city.

RESUMEN

The long retention of dust air masses in polluted areas, especially in winter, may efficiently change the physicochemical properties of aerosols, causing additional health and ecological effects. A large-scale haze-to-dust weather event occurred in the North China Plain (NCP) region during the autumn-to-winter transition period in 2018, affecting the coastal city Qingdao several times between Nov. 27th and Dec. 1st. To study the evolution of the pollution process, we analyzed the chemical characteristics of PM2.5 and PM10-2.5 and source apportionments of PM2.5 and PM10, The dust stagnated around NCP and moved out and back to the site, noted as dust swing process, promoting SO42- formation in PM2.5 and NO3- formation in PM10-2.5. Source apportionments were analyzed using the Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) receptor model and weighted potential source contribution function (WPSCF). Before the dust invasion, Qingdao was influenced by severe haze; waste incineration and coal burning were the major contributors (~80 %) to PM2.5, and the source region was in the southwest of Shandong Province. During the initial dust event, mineral dust and the mixed factor of dust and sea salt were the major contributors (46.0 % of PM2.5 and 86.5 % of PM10). During the polluted dust period, the contributions of regional transported biomass burning (22.3 %), vehicle emissions (20.8 %), and secondary aerosols (33.8 %) to PM2.5 from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region significantly increased. The secondary aerosols source was more regional than that of vehicle emissions and biomass burning and contributed considerably to PM10 (30.8 %) during the dust swing process. Our findings demonstrate that environmental managers should consider the possible adverse effects of winter dust on regional and local pollution.

RESUMEN

In this paper, a novel rapid, highly selective and sensitive Pb2+ fluorescent probe (E)-N'-((2-(4'-(diphenylamino)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)-2H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methylene) (DBTBH) was synthesized. The probe DBTBH not only exhibited more excellent selectivity and sensitivity to Pb2+ detection compared with other analytes (include metal ions and anions) in H2 O:THF solution (v:v = 9:1, 10 mM Tris-HCl, 1 mM KI, pH 7.4), but also had excellent optical properties such as aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) and intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). Detection limit of the probe DBTBH towards Pb2+ was 4.49 × 10-8 M. The possible mechanism was verified by 1 H NMR titration and HR-MS. Furthermore, the successful detection of Pb2+ by DBTBH in real water samples and HeLa cells indicated that DBTBH has great potential for selective recognition of Pb2+ in the natural environment and biological systems. These findings will provide a promising new idea for designing better Pb2+ fluorescent probes in the future.

RESUMEN

An esophageal cancer intelligent diagnosis system is developed to improve the recognition rate of esophageal cancer image diagnosis and the efficiency of physicians, as well as to improve the level of esophageal cancer image diagnosis in primary care institutions. In this paper, by collecting medical images related to esophageal cancer over the years, we establish an intelligent diagnosis system based on the convolutional neural network for esophageal cancer images through the steps of data annotation, image preprocessing, data enhancement, and deep learning to assist doctors in intelligent diagnosis. The convolutional neural network-based esophageal cancer image intelligent diagnosis system has been successfully applied in hospitals and widely praised by frontline doctors. This system is beneficial for primary care physicians to improve the overall accuracy of esophageal cancer diagnosis and reduce the risk of death of esophageal cancer patients. We also analyze that the efficacy of radiation therapy for esophageal cancer can be influenced by many factors, and clinical attention should be paid to grasp the relevant factors in order to improve the final treatment effect and prognosis of patients.

RESUMEN

The regional expression of epididymal genes provides a guarantee for sperm maturation. As a class of endogenous non-coding small RNAs, microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in spermatogenesis, maturation and fertilization. Currently, the regulatory role of miRNA in the epididymis is poorly understood. Here, transcriptome sequencing was used to analyse miRNA expression profiles in three regions of the epididymis of rams, including caput, corpus and cauda. The results showed that there were 13 known miRNAs between the caput and corpus controls, 29 between the caput and cauda and 22 differences between the corpus and cauda. Based on the analysis of miRNA target genes by GO and KEGG, a negative regulation network of miRNA-mRNA was constructed in which let-7, miR-541-5p, miR-133b and miR-150 may play an important regulatory role in the maturation regulation of ram epididymal sperm. This research provides a reference for studying the regulation mechanism of sperm maturation in male epididymis and improving semen quality and male reproductive performance.
