RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To develop a new classification of acromion based on the subacromial impingement theory and the Rockwood tilt view. And explore the application value of the new classification in the diagnosis and treatment of rotator cuff tear. METHODS: The clinical data of 101 patients underwent shoulder arthroscopic surgery for impingement syndrome or rotator cuff tear from January to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 34 males and 67 females, aged from 34 to 76 years with an average of (56.31±9.63) years old, course of disease from 2 to 12 months with average of 6 months. Preoperative radiographs of the routine anteroposterior view, Rockwood tilt view and the supraspinatus outlet view were obtained. Based on the subacromial impingement theory and Rockwood radiographs, the morphology of the acromion can be divided into three types:typeⅠ(flat type), typeⅡ(bump type), and type Ⅲ (impingement type). Two observers classified 101 shoulder Rockwood radiographs according to the new classification method and the supraspinatus Outlet radiographs according to the traditional acromial morphological classification method. Supraspinatus tendon injuries were classified into no tear, partial-thickness tear, and full-thickness tear according to the arthroscopic findings. Concordance test (Kappa value) between the inter-observer and intra-observer was carried out for the new classification method and the traditional classification method respectively. The rank sum test was used to compare the mean acromiohumeral distance(AHD) of the three acromion forms in the new acromion classification method. Spearman rank correlation test and Gamma method were used to analyze the correlation between the new acromion classification method and the degree of supraspinatus tendon tear. RESULTS: The inter-observer consistency analysis of the new classification system was significantly better than that of the traditional classification (0.827 vs 0.278), the intra-observer consistency analysis of the new classification system were also significantly better than that of the traditional classification (0.921 vs 0.448, 0.890 vs 0.539). There was no statistical significance in the AHD among three types of the new classification(H=2.186, P>0.05). In all 101 patients, the highest proportion of impingement type acromion was 45.5% (46 cases), followed by bump type acromion was 36.6% (37 cases), and flat type acromion was 17.8% (18 cases). The incidence of supraspinatus tendon tear in the patients with impingement type acromion was significantly higher than that of the other two types of acromion, there was a spearman rank correlation between the new acromion type and the degree of the supraspinatus tendon tear(rs=0.719, P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Rockwood radiographs of the shoulder can well display the anterolateral osteophytes of the acromion. The new acromion classification method based on Rockwood radiographs has high reliability and good reproducibility, in which impingement type of acromion is closely related to supraspinatus tendon tear. Compared with the traditional classification and AHD, the new classification method has more diagnostic value than for rotator cuff injury.

RESUMEN

Interleukin 4 (IL-4) plays a major role in T-lymphocyte development and is thought to be a central regulator as a cofactor in resting B-lymphocyte proliferation. Primary infection with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) induces minimal IL-4 production, whereas an IL-4 response occurs in the peripheral blood of piglets reinfected by PRRSV. The locations and interaction partners for the massive volume of IL-4 triggered by PRRSV reinfection remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of IL-4 secretion and location changes in peripheral immune organs induced by PRRSV infection and reinfection. Our results show that PRRSV reinfection induced higher levels of IL-4 mRNA and protein expression in the peripheral immune organs (e.g., lymph node and spleen) and peripheral blood compared with PRRSV primary infection. Importantly, we found that, following PRRSV reinfection, an obvious large-scale migration of IL-4 occurred in the lymph nodes. During PRRSV primary infection, IL-4 was mainly concentrated around the lymphoid follicles and paracortical regions of the lymph node and also located in the marginal area and periarterial lymphatic sheath region of the spleen. During PRRSV reinfection, the now abundant IL-4 gathered into the lymphoid follicles of the lymph node and spleen. Notably, IL-4 changed its location state from scattered and sparse during primary infection to clinging to B lymphocytes in the lymphoid follicles during reinfection. During reinfection, IL-4 was often co-localized with T and B lymphocytes; furthermore, the percentages of several T lymphocyte subsets, N protein-specific antibody levels, and viral load in the peripheral blood or lymph tissues underwent remarkable variation. Another important finding of this study was that the numbers of B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes in the lymphoid nodes were significantly reduced after PRRSV infection or reinfection, presumably due to PRRSV-induced acute bone marrow failure and autophagy in thymic epithelial cells. This study revealed the characteristics of IL-4 migration and distribution in the peripheral lymph organs induced by PRRSV reinfection and provides valuable clues for further exploration of the interactions between IL-4, B lymphocytes, and T lymphocytes during PRRSV infection and reinfection.

RESUMEN

PROBLEM: Intrauterine administration of autologous peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) has been proposed to facilitate embryo implantation, while its effect on clinical outcome of women with previous implantation failure (RIF) in frozen/thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles is still unclear. METHOD OF STUDY: A total 523 patients having not experienced successful clinical pregnancy were enrolled in our study, including 207 repeat implantation failure (RIF) patients, and 316 patients with previous implantation failures but failed to meet the diagnostic criteria for RIF (non-RIF). Autologous PBMCs were cultured with hCG for 4 h in the hCG-activated PBMC-treated group (n = 73 in RIF patients, n = 112 in non-RIF patients), and then intrauterine administered 2 days before FET. In the hCG-treated group (n = 67 in RIF patients, n = 100 in non-RIF patients), recombinant hCG was administered 2 days before FET. The control group (n = 67 in RIF patients, n = 104 in non-RIF patients) underwent FET without intrauterine administration. RESULTS: In RIF patients, the clinical pregnancy rate of the above three groups are 56.16%, 53.73%, and 43.28%, respectively (p = .276). The implantation rate and live birth rate showed no significant differences (p > .05). For non-RIF patients, higher clinical pregnancy rate was also seen in PBMC intrauterine group (57.15%) and hCG intrauterine group (58.00%) than controls (50.96%) but without statistical significance. There were no significant differences of implantation rate and live birth rate (p > .05). CONCLUSION: Intrauterine administration of hCG-activated PBMC and hCG did not improve clinical outcomes for both RIF and non-RIF patients before FET embryo transfer.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Ischial tuberosity cyst is a common disease, and the conventional incision procedure is associated with several disadvantages, leading to unsatisfactory therapeutic outcomes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of arthroscopic treatment for ischial tuberosity cyst and compared it with conventional incision surgery. The clinical data of 57 patients with ischial tuberosity cyst from May 2016 to September 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 49 patients were included. Of these patients, 24 patients received arthroscopic procedure (N = 24) and 25 patients received conventional incision procedure (N = 25). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications were compared between the 2 groups. Visual analogue scale scores was used to evaluate pain at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after the surgery. All 49 patients were followed up for (11.3 ±â€Š3.3) months. All patients in the arthroscopy group achieved phase I healing while 3 patients in conventional incision group developed complications. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, and hospital stay in the arthroscopy group were (54.7 ±â€Š7.7) minutes, (20.8 ±â€Š3.5) mL, (20.3 ±â€Š5.6) mL, and (2.8 ±â€Š0.6) days, and were significantly better than those of (71.8 ±â€Š8.8) minutes, (67.3 ±â€Š12.0) mL, (103.6 ±â€Š20.3) mL, and (7.8 ±â€Š2.9) days in the conventional incision group, respectively. In the arthroscopy group, the visual analogue scale scores at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after the surgery [(2.6 ±â€Š0.7), (0.5 ±â€Š0.6), (0.3 ±â€Š0.5) points] were significantly lower than those in the conventional incision group [(6.0 ±â€Š0.7), (3.0 ±â€Š1.0), and (1.1 ±â€Š1.0) points], and the differences were statistically significant (P < .05). Finally, no significant difference was observed in the incidence of postoperative complications between the 2 groups (P > .05).In the treatment of ischial tuberosity cysts, arthroscopy has advantages of minimal invasion, less blood loss during perioperative period, milder postoperative pain, and rapid recovery when compared with conventional incision surgery.

RESUMEN

Background: Brain metastasis (BM) is one of the most common metastatic sites in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), and the prognosis remains very poor. This study aimed to establish a novel nomogram for predicting the cancer-specific survival (CSS) in SCLC patients with BM. Methods: SCLC patients with BM from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2010 and 2015 were retrospectively collected. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify independent prognostic factors, which were further used to construct the prognostic nomogram. The discrimination and calibration of nomogram were evaluated by concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, the area under ROC curve (AUC) and calibration plot. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to assess the clinical usefulness. Kaplan-Meier survival curve was applied to analyze the survival outcome. Results: A total of 2,462 patients were enrolled in this study, and randomly assigned into training cohort (n=1,723) and validation cohort (n=739). Age, N stage, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, bone metastasis, liver metastasis and lung metastasis were identified as independent prognostic factors of CSS. The C-indexes of nomogram was 0.683 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.667-0.699] in the training cohort, and 0.659 (95% CI: 0.634-0.684) in the validation cohort. The AUC values of 6-, 9- and 12-month CSS were 0.723, 0.742 and 0.737 respectively in the training cohort, while 0.715, 0.737 and 0.739 in the validation cohort. The ROC, calibration and DCA curves showed good discrimination, calibration and clinical applicability of this nomogram in predicting prognosis. Moreover, patients in high-risk group had a worse survival outcome than patients in medium-risk and low-risk groups. Conclusions: A novel nomogram was constructed and validated for predicting individual prognosis in SCLC patients with BM. This nomogram could help clinicians make effective treatment strategies for patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the method and clinical effects of modified anchor insertion with single-row suture arthroscopic rotator cuff repair for aged patients with rotator cuff tear. METHODS: From March 2016 to February 2020, 96 aged patients with rotator cuff tears were retrospectively analyzed, including 29 males and 67 females, aged from 65 to 85 years, with a mean of (68.8±3.9) years. Patients were treated with modified anchor insertion with single-row suture arthroscopic rotator cuff repair technique. Before and after operation, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) score, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score were used to evaluate shoulder joint function, visual analogue scale (VAS)was used to evaluate patients' pain. Among them, 32 patients underwent magnetic resonance examination one year postoperatively. RESULTS: All operations were completed and the patients were followed up from 11 to 42 months, with a mean of (21.4±7.5) months. The UCLA score increased from preoperative 12.22±3.30 to final follow-up 31.30±2.49 (t=45.21, P<0.01);ASES score increased from preoperative 8.60±1.88 to final follow-up 12.60±0.84 (t=19.05, P<0.01);and the VAS decreased from preoperative 5.00 (2.00 to 8.00)scores to final follow-up 1.00 (0.00 to 3.00)scores (Z=-12.22, P<0.05). One year after operation, one of the 32 patients who underwent MRI showed that the repaired rotator cuff was torn again, but it did not affect the normal life and did not operate again. During the final follow-up, no anchor extraction was found in all 96 aged patients. CONCLUSION: Modified anchor insertion with single-row suture arthroscopic rotator cuff repair technique for rotator cuff tear in aged patients could achieve satisfactory results and effectively reduce the anchor extraction rate.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Treatment of thin endometrium with granular leukocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) remains controversial. AIM: To investigate the effect of G-CSF on the outcome of frozen embryo transfer in patients with thin endometrium. METHODS: A retrospective propensity score matching (PSM) study was performed to assess patients administered frozen embryo transfer at the Reproductive Medicine Center of the Affiliated Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, in 2012-2018. The patients were divided into G-CSF intrauterine perfusion (G-CSF) and non-G-CSF groups, and clinical pregnancy, implantation, ectopic pregnancy, and early abortion rates between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Before PSM, 372 cycles were enrolled, including 242 and 130 cycles in the G-CSF and non-G-CSF groups, respectively. Age (34.23 ± 5.76 vs 32.99 ± 5.59 years; P = 0.047) and the blastula/cleavage stage embryo ratio (0.68 vs 0.37; P = 0.011) were significantly elevated in the G-CSF group compared with the non-G-CSF group; however, clinical pregnancy (46.28% vs 51.54%; P = 0.371) and embryo implantation (35.21% vs 35.65%; P = 0.910) rates were similar in both groups. After PSM by age and blastula/cleavage stage embryo ratio, 244 cycles were included (122 cases each in the G-CSF and non-G-CSF groups). The clinical pregnancy (50.82 % vs 48.36%; P = 0.701) and embryo implantation (37.38% vs 34.11%; P = 0.480) remained similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: Intrauterine infusion of G-CSF does not improve the clinical outcome of frozen embryo transfer in patients with thin endometrium.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility and clinical effects of arthroscopic treatment for the calcific tendinitis at soft tissues around hip. METHODS: A total of 16 patients diagnosed as the calcific tendinitis at soft tissues around hip from May 2013 to July 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. All the 16 patients received arthroscopic procedures. There were 10 males and 6 females with an average age of 35 to 63 (44.50±6.67) years old and 9 left hips, 6 right hips were involved. The course of disease were 1 to 8(3.18±1.97) days. Clinical effects were evaluated with visual analogue scale(VAS), modified Harris hip scores (HHS), nonarthritic hip score (NAHS) and imaging examinations before operation, 1 day after operation and the final follow-up. RESULTS: All 16 patients successfully finished the arthroscopic procedures in 0.5 to 1.2 (0.75±0.21) hours. Primary healing of incision were obtained without any complications of infection, wound hematocele and neurovascular injury. All 16 patients received an average postoperative follow-up of 6 to 12 (9.6±2.3) months. Before operation, the VAS were 7.88±0.72, modified HHS were 29.25±3.23, NAHS were 27.42±3.08. The 1st day postoperative VAS were 2.19±0.66, modified HHS were 82.56± 5.64, NAHS were 82.11±2.94, all the difference were statistically significant between before and 1 day after operation (P< 0.05). At the final follow-up, the VAS were 0.38±0.50, modified HHS were 94.31±2.82, NAHS were 94.84±2.85, all the scores were improved significantly compared to that before operation (P<0.05). At final follow-up, there was no recurrence and the calcification disappeared in all patients, there was one patient feel sourness around the hip. CONCLUSION: Arthroscopic treatment for the calcific tendinitis at soft tissues around hip is effective. It has advantages of minimal invasive, rapid pain relief, rapid hip joint function recovery and definite clinical effects.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the method and clinical effects of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with footprint ending shift for massive rotator cuff tear. METHODS: From March 2015 to April 2019, 27 patients with massive rotator cuff tear underwent arthroscopic repair, including 12 males and 15 females, ranging in age from 37 to 74 years old, with an average age of (56.1±8.9) years. According to the tension of rotator cuff, 5 patients were treated with double row suture bridge technique, and 22 patients were treated with single row technique, among which 7 patients underwent partial rotator cuff repair. Before and after operation, University of California Los Angeles(UCLA) score, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to evaluate shoulder joint function. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 8 to 40 months, with an average of (18.0±5.9) months. The UCLA score increased from preoperative 8.67±0.78 to final follow-up 30.89±1.07(t=43.56, P<0.001);ASES score increased from preoperative 8.56±0.67 to final follow-up 12.63±0.33(t=15.28, P<0.001);and the VAS decreased from preoperative 6.00(5.00 to 7.00) scores to final follow-up 0.00 (0.00 to 2.00) scores (Z=-4.56, P<0.001). Three patients could not lift the shoulder above the head, without pain. The symptom had no effects on daily work and life, 2 of these patients underwent partial rotator cuff repair. CONCLUSION: Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with footprint ending shift for massive rotator cuff tear has satisfactory results, and single-row can be chosen to completely or partial repair rotator cuff tear for most patients.

RESUMEN

AIM: Vaspin is an adipokine separated from visceral fat tissues of obese diabetic rats. This study was to investigate the association between vaspin rs2236242 gene polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or obesity in a Chinese population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: T2DM patients and nondiabetic controls were recruited from Qingpu Branch of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University (Shanghai, China) from May 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017. Clinicopathologic characteristics were recorded and their blood samples were collected. Serum vaspin levels were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and vaspin rs2236242 genotypes by tetra-amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Two hundred and ninety-nine patients with T2DM and 311 controls were recruited at last. The vaspin genotypes of diabetic patients were distinct from nondiabetic controls (χ 2 = 54.611, p < 0.0001). Genotyping revealed that T2DM patients have a greater prevalence of A allele compared with controls (61.9% vs. 42.1%, p < 0.0001). A allele was associated with an increased risk of T2DM (odds ratio = 2.23, 95% confidence interval = 1.773-2.804, p < 0.0001) compared with T allele. The genotype distribution did not differ among nondiabetic subjects with or without obesity. The serum vaspin levels were higher in T2DM patients and obese controls than the nonobese controls, however, the rs2236242 was not found to be significantly related to serum vaspin levels. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed the association between vaspin rs2236242 gene variants with obesity and T2DM in a Chinese population. People with rs2236242 A allele had a 2.23-fold increased risk of T2DM. These findings suggest that vaspin rs2236242 may serve as a potential diagnostic and/or therapeutic targets for T2DM.

RESUMEN

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a kind of microvascular complications of diabetes. Long noncoding RNAs (lnRNAs) can participate in the development of various diseases, including DN. However, the function of lncRNA NEAT1 is unclear. In our present study, we reported that NEAT1 was significantly increased in streptozotocin-induced DN rat models and high-glucose-induced mice mesangial cells. We observed that knockdown of NEAT1 greatly inhibited renal injury of DN rats. Meanwhile, downregulation of NEAT1-modulated extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins (ASK1, fibronectin, and TGF-ß1) expression and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) proteins (E-cadherin and N-cadherin) in vitro. Previously, miR-27b-3p has been reported to be involved in diabetes. Here, miR-27b-3p was decreased in DN rats and high-glucose-induced mice mesangial cells. The direct correlation between NEAT1 and miR-27b-3p was validated using the dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation experiments. In addition, zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1), which has been identified in the process of EMT clearly contributes to EMT progression. ZEB1 was predicted as a target of miR-27b-3p and overexpression of miR-27b-3p dramatically repressed ZEB1 expression. Therefore, our data implied the potential role of NEAT1 in the fibrogenesis and EMT in DN via targeting miR-27b-3p and ZEB1.

RESUMEN

We aim to explore the relationship between Gm6135 and diabetic nephropathy. We detected the relative expression levels of Gm6135 and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in diabetic nephropathy mice and high-glucose-cultured mouse mesangial cells SV40-MES-13 by the quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot detection. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were detected after small interfering RNA (siRNA) interference or plasmid overexpression of Gm6135/TLR4, and bioinformatics method was used to predict and screen miR-203 as an intermediate factor. Through dual-luciferase reporter gene, RNA pull-down, qRT-PCR, and western blot, the binding relationship between Gm6135, miR-203-3p, and TLR4 was confirmed. The possibility of the competing endogenous RNA mechanism was demonstrated by cell localization assays and rip assays. Finally, the proliferation of mouse mesangial cells SV40-MES-13 was detected after mimics and inhibitor of microRNA, which were reversed with TLR4 overexpression and siRNA. The results showed that the relative expression levels of Gm6135 and TLR4 in the kidney and high-glucose-cultured mouse mesangial cells of diabetic nephropathy mice increased significantly. Overexpression or downregulation of Gm6135/TLR4 significantly affected the proliferation and apoptosis of mouse mesangial cells. Gm6135 upregulates TLR4 by competitively binding to miR-203-3p.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare technique and clinical effect of arthroscopic and conventional sectional therapy for the treatment of ischial tuberosity cyst. METHODS: From May 2014 and September 2016, 49 patients with symptomatic ischial tuberosity cyst were randomized divided into arthroscopic group and conventional section group by envelope method. There were 24 patients in arthroscopic group, including 16 males and 8 females aged from 42 to 81years old with an average age of (64.1±9.3) years old;the courses of disease ranged from 2 to 36 months with an average of (17.0±9.1) months;treated with removing cyst wall under arthroscopic and build artificial lacuna around cyst. There were 25 patients in conventional section group, including 11 males and 14 females aged from 47 to 79 years old with an average of (61.2±10.6) years old; the courses of disease ranged from 4 to 36 months with an average of (17.5±8.5) months;treated with cutting off lump with transverse incision. Operative time, blood loss, fluid volume, hospital stays and postoperative complication were observed and compared, VAS score were applied to evaluate pain degree. RESULTS: Forty-nine patients were followed up from 6 to 18 months with an average of (11.3±3.3) months. In conventional group, 2 patients occurred incision infection, 1 case reoccurred. All patients in arthroscopic group were healed at stage I. Operative time, blood loss, fluid volume, and hospital stays in arthroscopic group were (54.7±7.7) min, (20.8±3.5) ml, (20.3±5.6) ml, (2.8±0.6) d respectively and better than that of conventional group(71.8±8.8) min, (67.3±12.0) ml, (103.6±20.3) ml, (7.8±2.9) d. Postoperative VAS score in arthroscopic group on the first day, seventh days and first month were 2.6±0.7, 0.5±0.6, 0.3±0.5, and significantly lower than that of conventional group 6.0±0.7, 3.0±1.0, 1.1±1.0 respectively(P<0.05). There were no statistical difference in postoperative complications between two groups(P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with conventional group, arthroscopic for ischial tuberosity cyst has advantages of minimal invasive, less blood loss during perioperative period, less pain degree after surgery, safety and rapid recovery. But arthroscopic skills are needed for surgeons. It should be recommended in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß) induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) primarily via a Smaddependent mechanism. However, there are few studies available on TGF-ß-induced EMT through the activation of noncanonical pathways. In this study, the Cdc42-interacting protein-4 (CIP4)/partitioning-defective protein 6 (Par6) pathway was investigated in TGF-ß1stimulated NRK-52E cells. Rat NRK-52E cells were obtained and stimulated with TGF-ß1. The expression levels of E-cadherin, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and CIP4 were then examined by western blot analyses. Rat NRK-52E cells were transfected with Par6 or CIP4 small interfering RNA (siRNA), and scrambled siRNA as controls. The cells were incubated with 20 ng/ml of TGF-ß1 for 72 h in order to observe the effects of Par6 and CIP4 silencing. Confocal fluorescence microscopy was also applied to reveal the expression and distribution of E-cadherin, α-SMA, Par6 and CIP4. The results demonstrated that E-cadherin expression was decreased, and α-SMA expression was increased in the TGF-ß1stimulated cells. Simultaneously, the increased expression of CIP4 and p-Par6 was confirmed by western blot analyses. The results of confocal fluorescence microscopy revealed that rat CIP4 exhibited cluster formations located adjacent to the cell periphery; however, as for the protein expression and distribution of Par6, there was no obvious difference between the control cells and cells exposed to TGF-ß1. siRNA molecules capable of CIP4 and Par6 knockdown were used to demonstrate reversed TGF-ß1induced EMT. Moreover, CIP4 loss of function reversed the increase in p-Par6 protein expression in the TGF-ß1stimulated NRK-52E cells. A similar result was observed with the decreased CIP4 protein expression due to Par6 loss of function. Our data thus suggest that the CIP4/Par6 complex plays an important role in the occurrence of EMT in TGF-ß1-stimulated NRK-52E cells. The underlying mechanisms are mediated, at least in part, through the upregulation of CIP4, which occurrs due to stimulation with TGF-ß1; subsequently, CIP4 increases the phosphorylation of Par6, which accelerates the process of EMT.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical outcomes of repeated superovulation induction in patients with adenomyosis or moderate to severe pelvic endometriosis after failure in previous IVF-ET cycles with the ultra-long protocol. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data about 37 patients with adenomyosis or moderate to severe pelvic endometriosis in our center from 2009 to 2013, who underwent repeated IVF-ET after failure in the previous cycles with the ultra-long protocol, namely by injection of 2-6 ampoules of 3.75 mg gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a). All the patients met the following requirements: hCG-negative at 14 days after transfer, within 3-7 days after menstruation, and properly down-regulated serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) (<10 mIU/ml), luteinizing hormone (LH) (<10 mIU/ml), estradiol (E2) (<30 pg/ml), follicle diameter (<10 mm) and endometrial thickness, and received GnRH (Gonal-F, Serono) for ovulation induction. We compared the clinical and laboratory data and pregnancy outcomes between the first and repeated cycles before and after ovulation induction. RESULTS: The repeated cycles, as compared with previous ones, showed significant increases in the antral follicle count (AFC) on the first day of stimulation (7.55 ± 1.86 vs 6.45 ± 2.5, P<0.05), number of follicles =≥14 mm in diameter on the hCG trigger day (7.81 ± 3.6 vs 5.56 ± 3.68, P<0.05), level of E2 (ï¼»2 362.15 ± 1 210.49ï¼½ vs ï¼»1 749.22 ± 1 139.44ï¼½ pg/ml, P<0.05), and numbers of oocytes retrieved (7.51 ± 3.23 vs 4.78 ± 3.41, P<0.05) and embryos transferred (2.00 ± 0.33 vs 1.50 ± 0.67, P<0.05), exhibited a remarkably reduction in the dose of GnRH (ï¼»1 791.65 ± 1 889.41ï¼½ vs ï¼»3 439.56 ± 1 836.53ï¼½ IU, P<0.05), and achieved a clinical pregnancy rate of 62.16%. CONCLUSIONS: With proper reduction of the FSH, LH and E2 levels and follicle diameter, repeated superovulation induction for IVF-ET can improve the ovarian response and pregnancy outcomes of the patients with adenomyosis or moderate to severe pelvic endometriosis after failure in the previous IVF-ET cycles with the ultra-long protocol.

RESUMEN

The critical doping structures of rare-earth atoms in the promising ß-SiAlON phosphors have long been argued owing to the lack of direct evidence. Here, the exact locations and coordination of the Ce rare-earth atoms in the ß-SiAlON structure have been examined using an atom-resolved Cs-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope. Three different occupation sites for the Ce atoms have been directly observed: two of them are in the structural channel coordinated with six and nine N(O) atoms, respectively; the other one is the unexpected substitution site for Si(Al). The chemical valences and stabilities of the doping Ce ions at the different occupation sites have been evaluated using density functional calculations. Correlation of the different doping structures with the luminescence properties has been investigated by the aid of cathodoluminescence (CL) microanalysis, which verifies the different contribution of the interstitial trivalent Ce ions to the light emission while no luminescence is observed for the substitutional doping of quadrivalent Ce.

RESUMEN

Hollow boron nitride (BN) nanocages (nanospheres, image on the left) and BN-nanocage-encapsulated GaN nanocrystals (right) have been synthesized by using a homemade B-N-O precursors. The as-prepared BN hollow nanocages have typically spherical morphologies with diameters ranging from 30 to 200 nm. The nanocages have crystalline structures. Peanutlike nanocages with double walls have also been observed; their internal space is divided into seperated compartments by the internal walls. The method is extended to sheathe nanocrystals with BN nanocages; BN-shell/GaN-core nanostructures have been successfully fabriacted. The method may be generally applicable to the fabrication BN-sheathed nanocrystals.

RESUMEN

Boron nitride whiskers with a special structure have been synthesized by a thermal reaction process. The as-prepared BN whiskers have a length of tens of micrometers and a mean diameter of 500 nm. High-resolution TEM analysis shows that the as-prepared BN whiskers can be described as a nanofiber-interweaved network. Infrared and electron energy loss spectra reveal that the BN whiskers are composed of both sigma-sp2 and sigma-sp3 chemical bonds. The UV-vis absorption spectrum displays the energy band gap of the BN whiskers and multiple fine absorption peaks of the phonon-electron coupling. Both photoluminescence (PL) and cathodoluminescence (CL) measurements show the specially structured BN emits strong UV and visible luminescences, which is a promising material for deep-blue and UV applications.

RESUMEN

An effective method for synthesizing ZnS-core/carbon-sheath nanocables and nanocable-aligned ZnS tetrapod nanocrystals has been developed. Nanocable heterostructures and nanocable-linked ZnS tetrapods were synthesized in a controllable way. The tetrapods are single crystalline cubic ZnS with triangular-prism branches stretching out in four {111} directions. The tetrapods were aligned together with ZnS-C nanocables along the [100] direction.

RESUMEN

An effective method was developed for generation of insulating tubular boron nitride (BN)-sheathed nanostructures. ZnS nanowires and multilayered Si-SiO2 nanowires were successfully sheathed with insulating tubular BN-forming nanocables. Both the semiconductor nanowire cores and the BN sheaths are crystalline with well-uniform morphologies.
