In this study, we investigated the effects of lentinan (LNT) on hematological parameters, immune indices, and metabolite levels in dairy cows. We randomly assigned forty Holstein cows to four treatment groups. The treatments consisted of 0, 5, 10, and 15 g/d of LNT. Compared with the control group, the addition of 10 g/d of LNT decreased the content of ALT and IL-8 but simultaneously increased the content of IL-4 in the cows' serum. Supplementation with 10 g/d of LNT decreased the levels of lymphocyte, RDW, ALT, AST, TC, IL-2, and IL-8, but, concurrently, in-creased the levels of granulocytes and IL-4 in their serum. In addition, supplementation with 15 g/d of LNT decreased the levels of RDW, TC, IL-2, and IL-8, but, at the same time, increased the levels of IL-4 and IgM in their serum. For the metabolomic analysis, cows fed with 0 and 10 g/d of LNT were selected. The results showed that 10 metabolites, including reduced nicotinamide riboside and trehalose, were upregulated in the 10 g/d group. These differential metabolites were enriched in tyrosine metabolism and trehalose degradation and altered two metabolic pathways of ubiquinone and other terpene quinone biosynthesis, as well as starch and sucrose metabolism. These findings provide evidence that LNT could be used to reduce the risk of inflammation in dairy cows.

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of Buzhong Yiqitang on the immune imbalance of helper T cell 17 (Th17)/regulatory T cell (Treg) and Notch1 signaling pathway in mice with autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). MethodA total of 60 8-week-old NOD.H-2h4 mice were randomly divided into the normal group, model group, western medicine group (selenium yeast tablet, 32.5 mg·kg-1), and low-dose (4.78 g·kg-1·d-1), middle-dose (9.56 g·kg-1·d-1), and high-dose (19 g·kg-1·d-1) Buzhong Yiqitang groups, with 10 mice in each group. The normal group was fed with distilled water, and the other groups were fed with water containing 0.05% sodium iodide for eight weeks. After the animal model of AIT was formed spontaneously, the mice were killed under anesthesia after intragastric administration for eight weeks. Serum anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), and free thyroid hormone (FT4) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and thyroid tissue changes were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. The mRNA and protein expressions of retinoid-related orphan receptor-γt (RORγt), interleukin (IL)-17, forkhead box P3 (FoxP3), IL-10, Notch1, and hair division-related enhancer 1 (Hes1) in thyroid tissue were detected by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) and Western blot, respectively. ResultCompared with the normal group, the thyroid structure of the model group was severely damaged, and lymphocytes were infiltrated obviously. The levels of serum TGAb, FT3, and FT4 contents were significantly increased, and TSH content was significantly decreased (P<0.01). The mRNA and protein expression levels of RORγt, IL-17, Notch1, and Hes1 were significantly increased, while those of FoxP3 and IL10 were significantly decreased in the model group (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, thyroid structural damage and lymphocyte infiltration were improved in the treatment groups, and serum TGAb, FT3, and FT4 contents were significantly decreased. TSH content was increased, and mRNA and protein expression levels of RORγt, IL-17, Notch1, and Hes1 were decreased. mRNA and protein expression levels of FoxP3 and IL-10 were increased to different degrees (P<0.05, P<0.01), and the middle-dose Buzhong Yiqitang group had the most significant intervention effect. ConclusionBuzhong Yiqitang can alleviate the thyroid structural damage in AIT mice, and its mechanism may be related to improving the abnormal differentiation of Th17/Treg immune cells and inhibiting the activation of the Notch1 signaling pathway.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Xihuang pill as a famous traditional Chinese formula has long been used as an adjuvant therapy for cancer. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study is aimed at summarizing recent advances in research of Xihuang pill's anti-cancer efficacies from the theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine, pharmacological activities, chemical components and its clinical application. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The literature information was obtained from several authoritative databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI and Wan Fang before April 30, 2023. We also analyzed the representatively chemical compounds of Xihuang pill in vivo experiments using HPLC-Q/TOF-MS. RESULTS: The present study indicated that Xihuang pill, a classic anti-tumor prescription, had efficacies of strengthening body resistance, clearing heat and detoxification, and promoting blood circulation for removing blood stasis. Modern basic researches showed that Xihuang pill played anti-cancer roles through inducing cancer cell apoptosis, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis, improving immune function and tumor microenvironment, and regulating related signaling pathways. Its chemical components are primarily consisted of amino acids, terpenoids, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, phenolics, bile acids, bile pigments and volatile oil. Clinically, Xihuang pill, as an adjuvant drug for cancer treatment, was mostly combined with chemotherapy, which could prolong survival, enhance response rate, improve patients' life quality, regulate immune function and alleviate chemotherapy-induced toxicities. CONCLUSIONS: This present study suggests that Xihuang pill may be a promising adjuvant therapy for cancer, and proposes the possibility of future research directions for Xihuang pill based on the current research status.

Aim To investigate the role of FKBP38 in inhibiting apoptosis in a rotenone-induced Parkinson's disease(PD)cell model. Methods In vivo experiments:MPTP-induced PD in vivo models were constructed,and the expressions of α-synuclein,TH and FKBP38 in brains of PD mice were detected. In vitro experiments:Dopaminergic neuron MN9D cells were stimulated with rotenone to construct an in vitro model of PD; Western blot was used to detect the expression levels of α-synuclein,TH,Tom20 and FKBP38 in PD in vitro model; FKBP38 lentivirus was transferred into MN9D cells to construct stable overexpression and FKBP38 knockdown cell lines; CCK-8 assay was used to detect the cell viability of FKBP38 overexpression and knockdown cells stimulated by rotenone; Western blot was used to detect anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and apoptosis protein in PD cell model expression levels of Bax. Results The expression level of FKBP38 was significantly down-regulated in both in vitro and in vivo models of PD(P<0.01). Knockdown of FKBP38 aggravated the decline of dopaminergic neuron cell viability caused by rotenone(P<0.05),while overexpression of FKBP38 significantly ameliorated the decline of dopaminergic neuron cell viability caused by rotenone(P<0.05). Western blot results showed that overexpression of FKBP38 could significantly up-regulate the expression level of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and increase the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax in PD dopaminergic neurons(P<0.05). Conclusion In the PD cell model regulation of FKBP38 can improve the apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons.

OBJECTIVE@#To explore clinical efficacy of Locking loop stitch with suture-bridge technique in repair of acute closed distal Achilles tendon rupture by using suture anchors.@*METHODS@#From July 2019 to March 2021, 20 patients with acute closed distal Achilles tendon rupture were treated by minimally invasive suture anchor locking suture bridging repair technique. Among them, including 18 males and 2 females, aged from 19 to 52 years old with an average of(40.0±9.0) years old. Complications were observed, and recovery of ankle function was evaluated by American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society(AOFAS) ankle and hindfoot function scoring system before operation and 1 year after operation.@*RESULTS@#All patients followed up from 6 to 18 months with an average of (12.0±3.2) months. The incisions were healed at stageⅠwithout infection and skin necrosis occurred;no gastrocnemius nerve injury and deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities occurred;and no heel pain and Achilles tendon re-rupture occurred. AOFAS scores of ankle and hindfoot increased from(59.0±4.3) before opertaion to(95.1±2.6) at 1 year after operation (t=-32.1, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The effect of locking suture bridging with suture anchor nails to repair acute distal Achilles tendon rupture is definite, and it could reduce incidence of complications such as Achilles tendon re-rupture, nerve injury, and skin necrosis, which has advantages of small surgical trauma, reliable anastomosis method and good functional recovery, and is an ideal method for treating acute closed distal Achilles tendon rupture.

ObjectivesUse a longitudinal approach to study the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the emergence of symptoms of depression and/or anxiety in college freshmen. Define the interplay between genetic risk and psychosocial factors in shaping vulnerability or resilience to pandemic stress. MethodsUniversity of Michigan freshmen were characterized at baseline using multiple psychological instruments. They were genotyped and polygenic risk score for depression (MDD-PRS) was calculated. Daily physical activity was captured. They were sampled at multiple time points throughout the freshman year on clinical rating scales, including GAD-7 and PHQ-9 for anxiety and depression, respectively. The 2019-2020 cohort (N=122) was compared to an earlier cohort (N=106) to assess the impact of the pandemic. ResultsAcross cohorts, 25%-57% of freshmen developed significant symptoms of anxiety or depression. In the 2019-2020 cohort, measures of anxiety and depression increased significantly after the onset of COVID-19. Physical activity was dramatically reduced by the pandemic and was associated with the emergence of mood symptoms. Low MDD-PRS subjects exhibited lower relative risk for depression/anxiety during a typical freshman year, but they were more negatively impacted by the pandemic than High MDD-PRS subjects. Conversely, a cluster of psychological indices at baseline predicted resilience in High MDD-PRS subjects who did not develop a mood disorder post-stress. ConclusionsThe pandemic had a profound impact on college freshmen triggering depression and anxiety symptoms. Pandemic stress overrode the advantage conferred by "genetic resilience". By contrast, "psychosocial resilience" was protective even in the face of high genetic risk and pandemic stress.

The soybean is a significant legume crop, providing several vital dietary components. Extreme heat stress negatively affects soybean yield and quality, especially at the germination stage. Continuous change in climatic conditions is threatening the global food supply and food security. Therefore, it is a critical need of time to develop heat-tolerant soybean genotypes. Different molecular techniques have been developed to improve heat stress tolerance in soybean, but until now complete genetic mechanism of soybean is not fully understood. Various molecular methods, like quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, genetic engineering, transcription factors (TFs), transcriptome, and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR), are employed to incorporate heat tolerance in soybean under the extreme conditions of heat stress. These molecular techniques have significantly improved heat stress tolerance in soybean. Besides this, we can also use specific classical breeding approaches and different hormones to reduce the harmful consequences of heat waves on soybean. In future, integrated use of these molecular tools would bring significant results in developing heat tolerance in soybean. In the current review, we have presented a detailed overview of the improvement of heat tolerance in soybean and highlighted future prospective. Further studies are required to investigate different genetic factors governing the heat stress response in soybean. This information would be helpful for future studies focusing on improving heat tolerance in soybean.

Betaine is more efficient than choline and methionine methyl donors, as it can increase nitrogen storage, promote fat mobilisation and fatty acid oxidation and change body fat content and distribution. Lipid is absorbed primarily in the small intestine after consumption, which is also the basis of lipid metabolism. This study was conducted to establish a mouse model of obesity in Kunming mice of the same age and similar body weight, and to assess the effect of betaine on the intestinal protein expression profile of mice using a proteomic approach. Analysis showed that betaine supplementation reversed the reduction in expression of proteins related to lipid metabolism and transport in the intestine of mice induced by a high-fat diet (HFD). For example, the addition of betaine resulted in a significant upregulation of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (Mttp), apolipoprotein A-IV (Apoa4), fatty-acid-binding protein 1 (Fabp1) and fatty-acid-binding protein 2 (Fabp2) expression compared to the HFD group (p < 0.05), which exhibited accelerated lipid absorption and then translocation from the intestine into the body's circulation, in addition to a significant increase in Acetyl-CoA acyltransferase (Acaa1a) protein expression, hastening lipid metabolism in the intestine (p < 0.05). Simultaneously, a significant reduction in protein expression of alpha-enolase 1 (Eno1) as the key enzyme for gluconeogenesis in mice in the betaine-supplemented group resulted in a reduction in lipid synthesis in the intestine (p < 0.05). These findings provide useful information for understanding the changes in the protein profile of the small intestine in response to betaine supplementation and the potential physiological regulation of diets' nutrient absorption.

Betaine, a common methyl donor whose methylation is involved in the biosynthesis of carnitine and phospholipids in animals, serves as food and animal feed additive. The present study used liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to analyze the liver protein profile of mice on a high fat (HF) diet to investigate the mechanism by which betaine affects hepatic metabolism. Although betaine supplementation had no significant effect on body weight, a total of 103 differentially expressed proteins were identified between HF diet + 1% betaine group (HFB) and HF diet group by LC-MS (fold change > 2, p < 0.05). The addition of 1% betaine had a significant enhancement of the expression of enzymes related to fatty acid oxidation metabolism, such as hydroxyacyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase (HADHA), enoyl Coenzyme A hydratase 1 (ECHS1) (p < 0.05) etc., and the expression of apolipoprotein A-II (APOA2) protein was significantly reduced (p < 0.01). Meanwhile, the protein expression of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and succinate-CoA ligase (SUCLG1) were highly significant (p < 0.01). Pathway enrichment using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) revealed that the functions of differential proteins involved fatty acid catabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) signaling pathway. Protein−protein interaction (PPI) analysis discovered that acetyl-Coenzyme A acetyltransferase 1 (ACAT1), HADHA and ECHS1 were central hubs of hepatic proteomic changes in the HFB group of mice. Betaine alleviates hepatic lipid accumulation by enhancing fatty acid oxidation and accelerating the TCA cycle and glycolytic process in the liver of mice on an HF diet.

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of Banxia Xiexintang (BXT) on the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3)/cysteinyl aspartate-specific protease-1 (Caspase-1) pyroptosis pathway and its downstream factors in rats with ulcerative colitis (UC), and to explain the mechanism of BXT in the treatment of UC. MethodSD rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, low- and high-dose BXT groups (6.3, 12.6 g·kg-1·d-1), and salazosulfapyridine (SASP) group (0.42 g·kg-1·d-1), with 7 rats in each group. The UC model was induced by intragastric administration of 2.5% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) solution for 10 days, followed by drug intervention for 7 days. The general state of rats was observed during the experiment, and the disease activity index (DAI) score was calculated during the administration period. At the end of the experiment, colonic tissues were collected for hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining to observe the pathological changes and the curative effect of BXT. Real-time fluorescence-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) was used to detect the mRNA transcriptional levels of NLRP3, Caspase-1, gasdermin D (GSDMD), and interleukin (IL)-1β in colonic tissues. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of NLRP3, Caspase-1, GSDMD, and IL-1β in colonic tissues to explore the therapeutic mechanism of BXT. ResultCompared with the normal control group, the model group showed increased DAI score, pathological changes in colonic tissues, and up-regulated mRNA and protein expression of NLRP3, Caspase-1, GSDMD, and IL-1β (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the groups with drug intervention showed reduced DAI scores and improved pathological changes in colonic tissues. The mRNA and protein expression levels of NLRP3, Caspase-1, GSDMD, and IL-1β in colonic tissues of the BXT groups were significantly down-regulated or tended to be down-regulated, especially in the low-dose BXT group (P<0.05, P<0.01). ConclusionBXT can inhibit pyroptosis and alleviate inflammation in rats with UC by regulating the NLRP3/Caspase-1 pathway.

The intestine, a high-turnover tissue, plays a critical role in regulating aging and health in both vertebrates and invertebrates. Maintaining the epithelial barrier function of the intestine by preserving innate immune homeostasis significantly delays aging and prevents mortality. In an effort to explore effective chemicals and materials that can improve intestinal integrity, we performed a nonbiased screen utilizing Drosophila as an animal model. We showed that long-term uptake of aspirin markedly prevented age-onset gut leakage, the over-proliferation of intestinal stem cells, and the dysbiosis of commensal microbiota in fruit flies. Mechanistically, aspirin efficiently downregulated chronic activation of intestinal immune deficiency signaling during aging. Furthermore, our in vivo and in vitro biochemical analyses indicated that aspirin is a negative modulator in control of the K63-linked ubiquitination of Imd. Our findings uncover a novel regulatory mechanism by which aspirin positively modulates intestinal homeostasis, thus delaying aging, in Drosophila.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The uses of medicinal plants have a long history and become one of the important sources of the health cares in Gaomi City, Shandong Province, China. However, limited studies have been done to identify these medicinal plant species and to scientifically document their associated traditional knowledge. Many species used by indigenous people could potentially represent a novel resource of medicine. The study can aid in further investigations of modern pharmacology and planning of the wild species conservation. AIM OF THE STUDY: The study aimed to investigate and record the medicinal plant taxa and their associated traditional knowledge in Gaomi City, China. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Field study was conducted from March 2018 to May 2019 with 184 residents of Gaomi City. Traditional medicinal plant specimens were collected from the field with the help of these residents and were identified and authenticated in the Herbarium of the School of Pharmacy, Binzhou Medical University. Ethnobotanical knowledge was collected by semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed by using the informant consensus factor (ICF) method and the number of citations. RESULTS: A total of 181 species belonging to 137 genera and 65 families were collected in Gaomi City. Asteraceae was the predominant family and Fabaceae took the second place. River basins and the southern hills in Gaomi were rich in vegetation. However, the cultivated area of medicinal plants only accounted for 10% of agricultural acreage. The main preparation method was decocting (170, 94.48%) and the most frequent mode of administration was oral (177, 97.97%). The highest numerical ICF value was recorded for treating endocrine, metabolic, and nutritional (ICF: 0.85) conditions. Seven of the medicinal plant species used by the people in Gaomi have not been reported previously in China. Verbena officinalis L. was found in Gaomi City, which is a new distribution record for this species. CONCLUSIONS: People in Gaomi hold valuable knowledge about the use of medicinal plants; however, their knowledge has not been comprehensively documented. The therapeutic uses of the documented medicinal plants will provide a basis for further pharmacological and phytochemical investigations. Additionally, the result of this study indicated that the elder people in Gaomi have more traditional knowledge of plant medicines than the younger ones.

This study was conducted to assess the link of miRNA expressions in cow's mammary gland undergoing heat stress. Twelve Holstein cows were allocated either to undergo heat stress (HS) or remain in a thermoneutral environment (non-heat stress, NS), respectively. The experiment with HS cows was carried out in August, and the experiment with NS cows was done in November. After a month, three cows from each group were slaughtered, and mammary gland samples were obtained, and then miRNA were extracted from the samples for later sequencing. From the miRNA-seq, we obtained a total of 124 differentially expressed miRNAs in HS and NS cows' mammary gland. The differentially expressed miRNA could be predicted to influence multiple target genes. The target interleukin-1 (IL-1), which play a role in regulating the function of mammary gland in dairy cows, could be affected by bta-let-7c, bta-let-7e, bta-miR-181d, bta-miR-452, and bta-miR-31. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis showed that mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway plays an important role in the mammary glands of dairy cows and bta-miR-25 and bta-miR-382 may influence MAPK pathway through c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) gene to affect the function of mammary gland in HS cows. In conclusion, this study characterized expression profile of miRNAs in the Holstein cows' mammary gland under summer heat stress or not. We observed miRNA expression during heat stress, which was significantly different from non-heat stress states. A comprehensive analysis of the miRNA's expression will be helpful to further study the link of miRNAs with mechanisms regulating heat stress in the cow mammary gland.

BACKGROUND: The gold standard treatment for cholecystolithiasis is laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, the complications of cholecystectomy have led to adoption of gallbladder-preserving surgery. The study was to investigate significance of transparent cap-assisted choledochoscopy in gallbladder-preserving surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent gallbladder-preserving surgery by laparoscopic choledochoscopy along with choledochoscopy with or without a transparent cap from January 2018 to September 2018 in our hospital. The differences in the duration of gallbladder exploration, surgical complications, adverse events, and the recurrence of stones within 6 months after surgery were compared between 2 groups. RESULTS: Fifty patients underwent laparoscopic choledochoscopy along with choledochoscopy without transparent cap (Group A), while 50 patients underwent laparoscopic along with transparent cap-assisted choledochoscopy (Group B). Gallbladder exploration time was 27.96±12.24 minutes in Group A, and 12.04±6.01 minutes in Group B. One case had stone recurrence within 6 months in Group B, while 8 cases had stone recurrence in group A. CONCLUSIONS: Comparing with laparoscope combined with choledochoscopy, transparent cap-assisted choledochoscopy has advantages in gallbladder-preserving surgery.

Objective To explore the effect of exercise on the celluar immune function of mice induced by PM2.5. Methods Twenty-four male C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned into four groups, filtered air, concentrated PM2.5, exercise and filtered air, and exercise and concentrated PM2.5, with six mice in each group.The mice in the exercise group ran on the treadmill for 1 h every day, and then the mice in the four groups were respectively exposed to concentrated PM2.5 or filtered air after 1 h of rest.After twenty-four weeks, flow cytometric assay was used to detect the quantity of CD3+CD4+CD8a+ T cells, CD18+ T cells and CD154+ T cells in spleen in mice of the four groups. Results The median concentration of PM2.5 in the exposure chamber, filtered chamber and ambient air were 49.24, 12.18, 32.25 μg/m3, respectively.PM2.5 exposure led to increase in CD3+CD4+CD8a+ T cells (P < 0.05) and decrease in CD154+ T cells (P < 0.05), whereas running was beneficial for decreasing CD3+CD4+CD8a+ T cells (P < 0.05) and increasing CD154+ T cells (P < 0.05). Conclusions PM2.5 exposure induces perturbation of the immune system.Regular running proves to be helpful for maintaining the balance of the immune system and improving the body′s resistance to PM2.5.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to develop magnetic embolic microspheres that could be visualized by clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners aiming to improve the efficiency and safety of embolotherapy. METHODS AND DISCUSSION: Magnetic ferrite nanoclusters (FNs) were synthesized with microwave-assisted solvothermal method, and their morphology, particle size, crystalline structure, magnetic properties as well as T2 relaxivity were characterized to confirm the feasibility of FNs as an MRI probe. Magnetic polymer microspheres (FNMs) were then produced by inverse suspension polymerization with FNs embedded inside. The physicochemical and mechanical properties (including morphology, particle size, infrared spectra, elasticity, etc.) of FNMs were investigated, and the magnetic properties and MRI detectable properties of FNMs were also assayed by vibrating sample magnetometer and MRI scanners. Favorable biocompatibility and long-term MRI detectability of FNMs were then studied in mice by subcutaneous injection. FNMs were further used to embolize rabbits' kidneys to evaluate the embolic property and detectability by MRI. CONCLUSION: FNMs could serve as a promising MRI-visualized embolic material for embolotherapy in the future.

Annually, there are many bladder cancer patients undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) with urinary diversion worldwide. Until 2019, intestinal cystoplasty is still the gold standard for bladder replacement, but this therapy is always associated with severe complications. An ideal bladder substitute without using intestinal tissue remains a challenge today. In this work, an artificial mechatronics bladder (AMB) as a brand new bladder replacement approach is developed. We studied the main physiological function characteristics of a natural urinary bladder from teaching books and relevant papers. According to these characteristics, we completed an overall design of AMB and made a prototype in lab. The prototype successfully realized the functions of a natural bladder in vitro. It can expand to store urine in real time when urine is flowing into it. It can send a urination alarm when it is fully filled and can void urine automatically after receiving remote control signals. According to relevant papers and our test experience, if the prototype could be smaller and lighter and manufactured with good biocompatibility materials such as PTFE, we think it is possible for AMB to be implanted in an animal's body, and we deduce AMB could realize the functions of a natural urinary bladder in vivo. After thorough validation from animal testing, we hope AMB can be a good clinical option for bladder removal patients in the future.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of heme and non-heme iron sources on growth performances, blood parameters, tissue mineral concentration, and intestinal morphology in weanling pigs. At 25 days of age, 32 newly weaned piglets (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire; 8.66 ± 0.59 kg) were allocated to one of the following dietary treatments: control group (basal diet with no extra iron addition), FeSO4 group (basal diet + 100 mg Fe/kg as FeSO4), Fe-Gly group (basal diet + 100 mg Fe/kg as Fe-Gly), and Heme group (basal diet + 100 mg Fe/kg as Heme). Each treatment had eight replicates and one pig per replicate. The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed that compared with basal diet, supplement with 100 mg/kg iron can increase ADG of the piglets, especially in the late experiment period (15~28 days). Heme significantly increased the a* value of longissimus dorsi muscle of piglets when compared with other iron sources (P < 0.05). The iron supplementations had no significant effect on hematological parameters, while Fe-Gly and heme increased pigs' serum iron content on day 28 when compared with FeSO4 and basal diet (P < 0.05). The liver iron deposition in pigs fed Fe-Gly and heme was also higher than those fed FeSO4 or basal diet (P < 0.05). Besides, diet supplement with iron significantly increased villus height (P < 0.05) in duodenum and it had tendency to increase villus height and crypt depth ratio in duodenum (P = 0.095). In conclusion, iron supplementation in diets can improve piglet's body iron state and intestinal development, but Fe-Gly and heme exhibited better bioavailability than traditional additive of FeSO4.

The antibiotics have obvious antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, but their toxic side effect, secondary infection and bacterial resistance have become a global problem. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has always been the treasure of traditional culture and national characteristics in China since ancient times. It also has remarkable effect on inhibiting the growth of bacteria and killing pathogenic bacteria. The research on bacteriostatic experiment of TCM has gradually become a hot topic. Sensitivity experiments for such natural medicines have gradually become a research hotspot, but the complexity and particularity of natural medicines will vary with different methods. Therefore, different methods of drug sensitivity experiments should be matched with different natural drugs. By collecting and sorting out the relevant literature at home and abroad, this paper systematically summarizes the commonly used in vitro, in vivo and their combination bacteriostasis experimental methods of natural medicine activity, analyses the advantages and disadvantages of each method in the process of application, finds that different kinds of natural drugs have different applicable methods, and puts forward suggestions for the operation of each experimental method, in order to provide ideas for the selection of antibacterial susceptibility research experiments of natural medicines. It also provides a reliable reference method for solving the problem of antibiotic abuse and the development and utilization of natural medicines.
