RESUMEN

An experimental study of the phase equilibria of the Ho-rich part of the Ho-Ir-O ternary system at 1073 K by means of x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy has been carried out. Ho-hcp and four binary compounds, namely Ho3Ir, Ho5Ir2, Ho5Ir3, and Ho2O3, were identified in the Ho-Ir-O model alloys after long-term annealing (350-1220 h). No solubility of iridium in Ho2O3 oxide and Ho-hcp was observed. No ternary phase was found. Based on the experimental results, an isothermal section of the Ho-rich part of the Ho-Ir-O system at 1073 K was constructed. In addition, the microstructure of as-cast alloys was studied. An irregular eutectic consisting of faceted Ho-phase in Ho3Ir phase was observed in the alloys with Ho-hcp + Ho3Ir + Ho2O3 phase composition, and the temperature of the eutectic reaction Ho-hcp + Ho3Ir ↔ liquid was determined.

RESUMEN

The phase diagram of the Al-Cu-Zn ternary system was re-investigated experimentally. The current study was designed to contribute to a better description of those parts of the phase diagram, which are disputed in the current scientific literature. Mutual relations in the family of ternary intermetallic phases τ with cubic, rhombohedral and modulated structure at temperatures 400 °C and 550 °C were described. The phase relation between the γ and γ' phases was studied at different temperatures. A two-phase field between γ and γ' was observed below 400 °C, while the transition appears to be second order at higher temperatures. A vertical section between γ and γ' phases in Cu-Zn and Al-Cu and four isothermal sections at 400 °C, 550 °C, 700 °C and 820 °C, respectively, were constructed.

RESUMEN

Solvothermal synthesis was used for Ag-Cu nanoparticle (NP) preparation from metallo-organic precursors. The detailed NP characterization was performed to obtain information about nanoparticle microstructure and both phase and chemical compositions. The resulting nanoparticles exhibited chemical composition inside a FCC_Ag + FCC_Cu two-phase region. The microstructure study was performed by various methods of electron microscopy including high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) at an atomic scale. The HRTEM and X-ray diffraction studies showed that the prepared nanoparticles form the face centred cubic (FCC) crystal lattice where the silver atoms are randomly mixed with copper. The CALPHAD approach was used for predicting the phase diagram of the Ag-Cu system in both macro- and nano-scales. The predicted spinodal decomposition of the metastable Ag-Cu nanoparticles was experimentally induced by heating on an X-ray powder diffractometer (HT XRD). The nucleation of the Cu-rich phase was detected and its growth was studied. Changes in the Ag-rich phase were observed in situ by X-ray diffraction under vacuum. The heat treatment was conducted at different maximum temperatures up to 450 °C and the resulting particle product was analysed. The experiments were complemented by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements up to liquidus temperature. The start temperatures of the spinodal phase transformation and particle aggregation were evaluated.
