Reflections on biosafety in acupuncture.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is an integrative and complementary practice for which biosafety standards are essential. OBJECTIVE: To elicit a reflection on biosafety in acupuncture to reduce occupational hazards associated with infection as adverse effect for both provider and patient. METHODS: The present theoretical essay is grounded on references intentionally selected from June through October 2019. RESULTS: Infection is the adverse effect most frequently reported for acupuncture practice, which involves considerable risk of microorganism inoculation. Provider awareness should be raised to comply with biosafety principles and thus ensure their and patient safety without any negative implications for the effectiveness of treatment. CONCLUSION: We recommended providers to adopt universal biosafety practices during acupuncture procedures.

INTRODUÇÃO: A acupuntura integra o escopo das práticas integrativas e complementares em saúde, sendo de extrema importância o uso das normas de biossegurança durante essa técnica. OBJETIVO: Refletir sobre biossegurança em acupuntura visando diminuir riscos ocupacionais relacionados ao evento adverso de infecção, tanto para o profissional quanto para o paciente. MÉTODO: Para a elaboração desta reflexão teórica, utilizaram-se estudos da literatura selecionados de forma intencional. As reflexões sobre biossegurança em acupuntura ocorreram no período de junho a outubro de 2019. RESULTADOS: As infecções constituem os efeitos adversos associados à acupuntura mais relatados na literatura. Nessa prática, verifica-se elevado potencial de inoculação de microrganismos. Assim, devem-se seguir os princípios de promoção em biossegurança conscientizando os profissionais sobre a importância de tais cuidados para a própria segurança e a do paciente, sem minimizar a eficácia do tratamento. CONCLUSÕES: Recomenda-se adoção das práticas universais de biossegurança durante a realização de procedimentos de acupuntura.

Enfermagem do trabalho na construção civil: contribuições à luz da teoria da adaptação de Roy / Occupational health nursing in civil construction: contributions based on Roy's adaptation theory

Refletir sobre a atuação da enfermagem em uma empresa da construção civil é de fundamental importância, visto que possibilitará aprimorar conhecimentos e revelar outros. Ainda, permitirá que os gestores em conjunto com os trabalhadores busquem estratégias para prevenção de doenças, promoção da saúde e prevenção de agravos. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo descrever as contribuições da enfermagem em uma empresa da construção civil. Trata-se de um estudo de relato descritivo ancorado na Teoria da Adaptação de Callista Roy. Tal relato foi vivenciado no período de agosto de 2017 a março de 2018, o qual descreve atividades cotidianas desenvolvidas pela enfermagem com os trabalhadores e profissionais da área médica. Acredita-se que este estudo contribuirá para desvelar a importância das atividades desenvolvidas pela enfermagem do trabalho, especificamente na construção civil, bem como a relevância de apoiá-las em um referencial teórico científico; e, assim, aumentar a qualidade de vida no trabalho, buscando cada vez mais um ambiente laboral saudável para todos os envolvidos sem perder de vista a produção

Reflecting on the role of the nursing staff in civil construction has paramount importance, because it enables improving knowledge and making discoveries. Such reflection is further useful for managers and workers to jointly develop disease prevention and health promotion strategies. The aim of the present study is to describe a nurse's contributions to a civil construction company. It consists of an experience report according to Callista Roy's adaptation theory. The analyzed experience took place from August 2017 through March 2018. We describe the activities carried out by the nurse jointly with other healthcare workers. We believe that the present study evidences the significance of occupational health nursing actions, particularly within civil construction, as well as the relevance of providing theoretical scientific grounds to such actions to contribute to make working environments healthier for all the involved actors without neglecting the aspect of productivity

[Perceptions of family members of patients with cancer on musical encounters during the antineoplastic treatment]. / Percepções de familiares de pessoas portadoras de câncer sobre encontros musicais durante o tratamento antineoplásico.

Current research is a qualitative phenomenological analysis, structured on Heidegger's existential analysis, whose aim was the perception of cancer patients' relatives who live with subjects with cancer and with anticancer treatment, about the musical encounters. Five subjects living at the clinic run by the Maringá Female Network against Cancer participated at eight musical encounters during January and February 2011. The meeting mediated by the music can provide the relatives with a moment of existential introspection which lead them to a transcendental experience in coping with their existential condition. It inspired the expression of subjectivity and the revealing of their existential / spiritual needs. Within the context of cancer palliative care, the encounters may broaden the integration and humanization possibilities of nursing care to the family, providing comfort, reflection and motivation in the wake of emergent adversities within the clinic's temporal term.

[Musical meetings as a resource in oncologic palliative care for users of a support home]. / Encontros musicais como recurso em cuidados paliativos oncológicos a usuários de casas de apoio.

This was a phenomenological investigation into musical meetings, structured according to the existential analytics of Martin Heidegger, that aimed at scrutinizing the perception of patients with cancer living in a support home. Seven users of the support home of the Rede Feminina de Combate ao Cancer in Maringá, Paraná, took part in the study, during which eight musical meetings took place during the months of January and February 2011. For the purposes of data collection individual interviews were used, starting with the following question: What do these musical meetings represent to you at this time of your life? During the process of understanding the investigated phenomenon, two ontological themes emerged: a feeling of being taken care of in the musical meetings; and transcending their existential facticity. It was observed that a meeting mediated by music represents a resource in oncologic palliative care nursing; and that it brings inspiration to the patients' daily life, instilling a feeling of being cared for and giving a new meaning to their being-in-the-world.

[Music in human terminality: the family members' conceptions]. / A música na terminalidade humana: concepções dos familiares.

This qualitative study was performed using the multiple case study method and Heidegger's existential phenomenology for data analysis. The objective was to understand how family members perceive the influence of musical experiences on the physical and mental health of a relative living with a terminal illness. Participants were seven individuals belonging to two families. Data collection was performed through interviews and observation from May to June 2009. Results showed that using music while providing care to beings living with cancer can provide well-being to patients as well as their caregivers. Considering the deficit of leisure and the monotony of the home environment, using music contemplates the philosophical and humanitarian precepts of palliative care, thus being characterized as a complementary resource to nursing care, as besides being a communication resource, it improves the interpersonal relationship between patients and their families.
