RESUMEN

Cardiomyocyte (CM) transplantation is a promising option for regenerating infarcted myocardium. However, poor cell survival and residence rates reduce the efficacy of cell transplantation. Gelatin (GA) hydrogel as a frequently-used cell carrier is a possible approach to increase the survival rate of CMs. In this study, microbial transglutaminase (mTG) and chemical crosslinkers glutaraldehyde (GTA), genipin (GP), and 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl)-carbodiimide (EDC) were employed to prepare GA hydrogels. The mechanical properties and degradation characteristics of these hydrogels were then evaluated. Neonatal rat CMs (NRCMs) were isolated and inoculated on the surface of these hydrogels or encapsulated in mTG- hydrogels. Cellular growth morphology and beating behavior were observed. Cellular viability and immunofluorescence were analyzed. Intracellular Ca2+ transient and membrane potential propagation were detected using fluorescence dyes (Fluo-3 and di-4-ANEPPS, respectively). Results showed that the chemical crosslinkers exhibited high cytotoxicity and resulted in high rates of cell death. By contrast, mTG- hydrogels showed excellent cell compatibility. The CMs cultured in mTG-hydrogels for a week expressed CM maturation markers. The NRCMs begun independently beating on the third day of culture, and their beating synchronized after a week of culture. Furthermore, intracellular Ca2+ transient events with periodicity were observed. In conclusion, the novel mTG-crosslinked GA hydrogel synthesized herein has good biocompatibility, and it supports CM adhesion, growth, and maturation.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the success rates of canalith repositioning maneuvers (CRM) in the treatment of patients diagnosed with bilateral benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BiBPPV). STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: A comprehensive search of only English studies in PubMed, Ovid (1946 to the present), and Embase (1974 to the present) databases was done up until January 1, 2021. Studies that diagnosed patients with BiBPPV specifically and evaluated the CRM success from all published years were included. Studies were excluded if follow-up was less than 6 months or if they failed to distinguish BiBPPV from ipsilateral multi-canal BPPV. A total of nine studies were included with a total study population of 325 patients. Included studies were evaluated for bias with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Study Quality Assessment Tool. Success rates of CRM, number of treatments required, and disease recurrence rates were extracted. RESULTS: The overall success rate was compiled using a fixed-effect binary inverse variance model and was 95.2% (CI: 92.9%-97.5%). A qualitative review suggested treating the more affected side first on separate visits until resolved, followed by contralateral treatment (recommendation). The mean number of treatments was 2.9 (CI: 2.4-3.4), and the recurrence rate was 19.8% (CI: 11.7%-27.9%). There was a higher proportion of trauma etiology of BiBPPV compared to unilateral, with an odds ratio of 8.9 (CI: 5.1-15.3). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, this meta-analysis shows high success rates for CRM in the treatment of BiBPPV. Rates are similar to CRM efficacy for unilateral BPPV. Laryngoscope, 2021.

AIMS: To determine the effectiveness of blended learning using the community of inquiry framework on nursing students' learning gains in a sudden patient deterioration module. DESIGN: A quasi-experimental trial. METHODS: 233 Chinese nursing students in their fourth semester of a sudden patient deterioration learning module were assigned to control (N = 113) and experimental group (N = 120). Students in experimental group engaged in community of inquiry-based blended learning in sudden patient deterioration module, including computer-aided self-instruction, team-based topic discussion and simulation training. Control group learned similar contents through face-to-face teaching comprising of a presentation with lecture, tutorial and simulation training. Student assessment of learning gains, knowledge and practical ability was quantified after the interventions. RESULTS: Compared with control group, students in experimental group had improved student assessment of learning gains (p = .001, Cohen d = 0.69) and practical ability (p < .001, Cohen d = 0.48). Although no significant difference in overall knowledge score, experimental group students did better performance in application and analysis (p = .001, Cohen d = 0.45).

A series of flavonoid-triazolyl hybrids were synthesized and evaluated as novel inhibitors of hepatitis C virus (HCV). The results of anti-HCV activity assays showed that most of the synthesized derivatives at a concentration of 100 µg/mL inhibited the generation of progeny virus. Among these derivatives, 10m and 10r exhibited the most potent anti-HCV activity and inhibited the production of HCV in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, 10m and 10r had no significant inhibitory effect on viral translation or replication. Additional action mechanism studies revealed that the most potent compounds, 10m and 10r, significantly inhibited viral entry to 34.0% and 52.0%, respectively, at 10 µM. These results suggest further effective application of 10m and 10r as potential HCV preventive agents.

This study experimentally and numerically investigated the nonlinear behavior of the resonant bulk waves generated by the two-way collinear mixing method in 5052 aluminum alloy with micro-crack damage. When the primary longitudinal and transverse waves mixed in the micro-crack damage region, numerical and experimental results both verified the generation of resonant waves if the resonant condition ωL/ωT=2κ/(κ-1) was satisfied. Meanwhile, we found that the acoustic nonlinearity parameter (ANP) increases monotonously with increases in micro-crack density, the size of the micro-crack region, the frequency of resonant waves and friction coefficient of micro-crack surfaces. Furthermore, the micro-crack damage in a specimen generated by low-temperature fatigue experiment was employed. It was found that the micro-crack damage region can be located by scanning the specimen based on the two-way collinear mixing method.

Although membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) is promising in nitrogen removal due to its counter-diffusion biofilms structure, it still cannot adapt a wider COD/N ratios wastewater. In this condition, expanding the MABR applicability range in different COD/N ratio wastewater is necessary. In this study, a bacterial-algae biofilm, instead of bacteria biofilm, supporting membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABAR) was constructed, and the performance was compared to MABR. Results showed that the total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency was promoted significantly in MABAR regardless of the COD/N ratio. Compared to MABR, effluent TN concentration in COD/N ratio of 2, 5, and 8 declined by 14.34 mg/L, 0.50 mg/L, and 12.10 mg/L, respectively. Nitrification inhibition test suggested that algae assimilation made an obvious contribution (at least 18.18 mg/L) to the NH4+-N removal in MABAR. Besides, redundancy analysis (RDA) indicates that MABAR has a negative correlation with Nitrospirae but is positively correlated with NH4+-N removal load. These results are consistent with the kinetics result that algae assimilation, instead of nitrification-denitrification, is responsible for the nitrogen removal in MABAR. Therefore, the change of nitrogen removal route further gave MABAR excellent adaptability and impact resistance to address wastewater with different COD/N ratios, which is conducive to its wide application.

Evapotranspiration is an important component of the water cycle, and possible trends in evapotranspiration can, among others, influence water management and agricultural production. Potential evapotranspiration (ETp) is a measure of the ability of the atmosphere to remove water from the surface through the processes of evaporation and transpiration. It plays an important role in assessing regional dry-wet conditions and variations in meteorological conditions. This study analyzed the change trends of monthly ETp and surface dryness and wetness in the Hancang River Basin and, through principal component analysis and correlation analysis, explored the main meteorological factors that affected ETp and the interactions between meteorological factors; ETp values were estimated using the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method. The results showed that there was a large gap in ETp between different months in the Hancang River Basin, with a trend of first increasing and then decreasing within a year. The highest monthly evapotranspiration was 114.119 mm (July), and the lowest was 42.761 mm (January). The maximum relative humidity index was 0.822 (August), and the minimum was -0.979 (January). The average temperature, precipitation, average relative humidity, and solar radiation are positive factors that affect ETp, while average air pressure is a negative factor that affects ETp. This study provides a reference for the wet conditions of small watersheds and for countermeasures to address climate change.

Plasmonic hotspots can enhance hot charge carrier generation, offering new opportunities for improving the photocatalytic activity. In this work, eight types of heteronanostructures are synthesized by selectively depositing catalytic metals at the different sites of highly asymmetric Au nanocups for the photocatalytic oxidation of o-phenylenediamine. The oxidation of this molecule has so far mainly relied on the use of H2O2 as an oxidizing agent in the presence of an appropriate catalyst. The photocatalytic oxidation under visible light has not been reported before. The Au nanocups with AgPt nanoparticles grown at the opening edge and bottom exhibit the highest photocatalytic activity. The generated hot electrons and holes both participate in the reaction. The hot carriers from the interband and intraband transitions are both utilized. The optimal catalyst shows a favorable activity even under room light. Simulations reveal that the profound electric field enhancement at the hotspots boosts the hot-carrier density in the catalytic nanoparticles, explaining the overwhelming photocatalytic activity of the optimal catalyst.

BACKGROUND: NOD-like receptors affect multiple stages of cancer progression in many malignancies. NACHT, LRR, and PYD domain-containing protein 7 (NLRP7) is a member of the NOD-like receptor family, although its role in tumorigenesis remains unclear. By analyzing clinical samples, we found that NLRP7 protein levels were upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC). We proposed the hypothesis that a high level of NLRP7 in CRC may promote tumor progression. Here, we further investigated the role of NLRP7 in CRC and the underlying mechanism. METHODS: NLRP7 expression in human CRC and adjacent non-tumorous tissues was examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. The effect of NLRP7 in CRC progression was investigated in vitro and in vivo. Proteins interacting with NLRP7 were identified by immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry analysis while immunofluorescence staining revealed the cellular location of the proteins. Cellular ubiquitination and protein stability assays were applied to demonstrate the ubiquitination effect on NLRP7. Cloning and mutagenesis were used to identify a lysine acceptor site that mediates NLRP7 ubiquitination. Cytokines/chemokines affected by NLRP7 were identified by RNA sequencing, qRT-PCR, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Macrophage phenotypes were determined using qRT-PCR, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: NLRP7 protein levels, but not mRNA levels, were upregulated in CRC, and increased NLRP7 protein expression was associated with poor survival. NLRP7 promoted tumor cell proliferation and metastasis in vivo and in vitro and interacted with ubiquitin-specific protease 10, which catalyzed its deubiquitination in CRC cells. NLRP7 stability and protein levels in CRC cells were modulated by ubiquitination and deubiquitination, and NLRP7 was involved in the ubiquitin-specific protease 10 promotion of tumor progression and metastasis in CRC. K379 was an important lysine acceptor site that mediates NLRP7 ubiquitination in CRC cells. In CRC, NLRP7 promoted the polarization of pro-tumor M2-like macrophages by inducing the secretion of C-C motif chemokine ligand 2. Furthermore, NLRP7 promoted NF-κB nuclear translocation and activation of C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 transcription. CONCLUSIONS: We showed that NLRP7 promotes CRC progression and revealed an as-yet-unidentified mechanism by which NLRP7 induces the polarization of pro-tumor M2-like macrophages. These results suggest that NLRP7 could serve as a biomarker and novel therapeutic target for the treatment of CRC.

Previous studies on the value of radiomics for diagnosing clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) only utilized intralesional features. However, the role of tumor microenvironment is important in tumor generation and progression. The aim of this study is to build and validate a nomogram based on perilesional and intralesional radiomics features and clinical factors for csPCa. This is a retrospective study, which included 140 patients who underwent prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This study used 3.0T T2-weighted imaging, apparent diffusion coefficient maps (derived from diffusion-weighted images), and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI. Region of interest (ROI)s were segmented by two radiologists. Intralesional and combined radiomics signatures were built based on radiomics features extracted from intralesional and the combination of radiomics features extracted from intralesional and perilesional volumes. Serum total prostate-specific antigen level and combined radiomics signature scores were used to construct a diagnostic nomogram. Intraclass correlation efficient analysis was used to test intra- and inter-rater agreement of radiomics features. Min-max scalar was used for normalization. One-way analysis of variance or the Mann-Whitney U-test was used for univariate analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, accuracy, balanced accuracy, and F1-score were used to evaluate radiomics signatures and the nomogram. Also, the nomogram was evaluated using decision curve analysis in testing cohort. Delong test was used to compare area under the curves (AUCs). Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. In testing cohort, AUC, accuracy, balanced accuracy, and F1-score of combined radiomics signature (0.94, 0.83, 0.80, and 0.87, respectively) were all higher than that of intralesional radiomics signature (0.90, 0.77, 0.74, and 0.83, respectively). The difference between AUCs was insignificant (p of 0.19). AUC, accuracy, balanced accuracy, and F1-score of the nomogram were 0.96, 0.94, 0.95, and 0.95, respectively. Nomogram was clinically useful when threshold probability of a patient is higher than 0.06. Perilesional radiomics features improved the discrimination ability of the radiomics signature. Diagnostic nomogram had a good performance. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3. TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE: 2.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a commonly used nutritional supplement, on intracranial aneurysm (IA) initiation and progression in a mouse model, as well as the mechanism. METHODS: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was used to treat mouse-derived vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) to induce oxidative injury, followed by incubation with CoQ10. In the mouse IA model established by elastase injection, CoQ10 was orally administered at 10 mg/kg every other day for 14 days, during which the incidence of IA, rupture rate, symptom-free survival, and systolic blood pressure were recorded. RESULTS: CoQ10 promoted the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 and antioxidant enzymes. In H2O2-treated VSMCs, reactive oxygen species and cell apoptosis were reduced by CoQ10. In IA mice, CoQ10 treatment decreased the rupture rate of IA, improved the symptom-free survival, and reduced systolic blood pressure. Macrophage infiltration and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the cerebral arteries were mitigated by CoQ10 treatment. CONCLUSIONS: CoQ10 is effective in reducing oxidative stress in VSMCs, thereby attenuating IA formation and rupture in mice. CoQ10 also alleviates inflammation and restores normal phenotypes of VSMCs in the cerebral arteries. Our data suggest that CoQ10 is a potentially effective drug for managing IA. IMPACT: To investigate the effect of CoQ10, a commonly used nutritional supplement, on IA initiation and progression in a mouse model, as well as the mechanism. CoQ10 promoted the expression of Nrf2 and antioxidant enzymes. In H2O2-treated VSMCs, ROS and cell apoptosis were reduced by CoQ10. CoQ10 is effective in reducing oxidative stress in VSMCs, thereby attenuating IA formation and rupture in mice.

BACKGROUND In pregnant women with advanced maternal age (AMA) and fetuses with ultrasonographic (USG) soft markers it is always challenging to decide whether to implement chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) or not. It is unclear whether CMA should be used in the fetuses with isolated USG soft markers, and there is still a lack of extensive sample research. MATERIAL AND METHODS We enrolled 1521 cases in our research and divided them into 3 groups as follows: pregnant women with isolated AMA (group 1, n=633), pregnant women whose fetuses had isolated USG soft markers (group 2, n=750), and pregnant women with AMA whose fetuses had isolated USG soft markers (group 3, n=138). All pregnant women underwent prenatal ultrasound and amniocentesis, and fetal cells in the amniotic fluid were used for genetic analysis of CMA. All participants signed a written informed consent prior to CMA. RESULTS Abnormal findings were detected by CMA in 330 (21.70%) fetuses, including 37 (2.43%) clinically significant copy number variations (CNVs), 52 (3.42%) benign or likely benign CNVs, and 240 (15.78%) variants of unknown significance. The frequency of clinically significant CNVs in group 1 and group 2 were significantly lower than that in group 3 (2.37% and 2.0% vs 5.07%, P<0.01). More than a half (59.46%, 22/37) of the pregnant women decided to continue their pregnancy despite having a fetus diagnosed with clinically significant CNV. CONCLUSIONS CMA can increase the diagnostic yield of fetal chromosomal abnormality for pregnant women with isolated AMA or/and their fetuses had isolated USG soft markers.

When approaching the subwavelength or deep subwavelength scale, there is a fundamental trade-off between the ultimate shrinking size and the performance for miniaturized lasers. Herein, to overcome this trade-off, we investigated the excitonic gain nature of quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) perovskites and revealed that both singlet excitons and polarons would make nearly the entire contribution within ∼50 ps to a high net gain of 558 cm-1. Inspired by the gain characteristic, we successfully shrank the quasi-2D perovskites laser to the subwavelength scale using only a layer of ultraviolet glue and a glass substrate in the vertical dimension. In spite of the compact and simple cavity structure, single-mode lasing with a highly linear polarization degree of 81% and a quality factor of 1635 was achieved. The extremely short cavity, excellent lasing performance, and simple structure of the quasi-2D perovskite laser are expected to provide insights into next-generation integrated laser sources.

Maternal childhood maltreatment and depression increase risks for the psychopathology of the offspring. This study employed a longitudinal dataset of mother-child dyads to investigate the developmental trajectories of brain functional networks and behaviors of children in relation with maternal childhood adverse experience and depression. Maternal childhood trauma was retrospectively assessed via childhood trauma questionnaire, whereas maternal depressive symptoms were prospectively evaluated during pregnancy and after delivery (n = 518). Child brain scans were acquired at age of 4.5, 6, and 7.5 years (n = 163) and behavioral problems were measured at 7.5 years using the Child Behavior Checklist. We found the functional connectivity of the language network with the sensorimotor, frontal, and attentional networks as a function of maternal adverse experience that interacted with sex and age. Girls exposed to mothers with depressive symptoms or childhood abuse showed the increased development of the functional connectivity of the language network with the visual networks, which was associated with social problems. Girls exposed to mothers with depressive symptoms showed the slower growth of the functional connectivity of the language network with the sensorimotor networks. Our findings, in a community sample, suggest the language network organization as neuroendophenotypes for maternal childhood trauma and depression.

Currently, immunization with inactivated influenza virus vaccines is the most prevalent method to prevent infections. However, licensed influenza vaccines provide only strain-specific protection and need to be updated and administered yearly; thus, new vaccines that provide broad protection against multiple influenza subtypes are required. In this study, we demonstrated that intradermal immunization with gp96-adjuvanted seasonal influenza monovalent H1N1 split vaccine could induce cross-protection against both group 1 and group 2 influenza A viruses in BALB/c mice models. Vaccination in the presence of gp96 induced an apparently stronger antigen-specific T cell response than split vaccine alone. Immunization with the gp96-adjuvanted vaccine also elicited apparent cross-reactive CD8+ T cell response that targeted the conserved epitopes across different influenza virus strains. These cross-reactive CD8+ T cells might be recalled from a pool of memory cells established after vaccination and recruited from extra-pulmonary sites to facilitate viral clearance. Of note, six highly conserved CD8+ T epitopes from the viral structural proteins HA, M1, NP and PB1 were identified to play a synergistic role in gp96-mediated cross-protection. Comparative analysis showed that most of conservative epitope-specific CTLs apparently induced by heterologous virus infection were also activated by gp96-adjuvanted vaccine, thus resulting in broader protective CD8+ T cell responses. Our results demonstrated the advantage of adding gp96 to an existing seasonal influenza vaccine to improve its ability to provide better cross-protection.ImportanceOwing to continuous mutations in hemagglutinin (HA) or neuraminidase (NA) or recombination of the gene segments between different strains, influenza viruses can escape the immune responses developed by vaccination. Thus, new strategies aimed to efficiently activate immune response that targets to conserved regions among different influenza viruses are urgently needed in designing broad-spectrum influenza vaccine. Heat shock protein gp96 is currently the only natural T cell adjuvant with special ability to cross-present coupled antigen to MHC I molecule and activate downstream antigen-specific CTLs response. In this study we demonstrated the advantages of adding gp96 to monovalent split influenza virus vaccine to improve its ability to provide cross-protection in BALB/c mice model and proved that gp96 activated cross-reactive CTL response is indispensable in our vaccine strategy. Due to its unique adjuvant properties, gp96 might be a promising adjuvant for designing new broad-spectrum influenza vaccines.

In this paper, a model-free incremental adaptive optimal fault-tolerant controller with prescribed performance is proposed for nonlinear systems subject to actuator faults. Considering the system actuator redundancy, an actuator grouping scheme is introduced according to the actuator functions. An incremental adaptive fault observer is designed to estimate the faults. The recursive least squares (RLS) identification is utilized to identify the incremental system parameters. Both dynamic process requirements and optimal performance index of the closed loop system are taken into consideration by combining prescribed performance bound (PPB) and incremental adaptive dynamic programming (IADP). Simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed IADP reconfigurable fault-tolerant control scheme.

Whole plants of Gentianella turkestanorum are commonly used as a traditional Uighur medicine. A phytochemical investigation led to the isolation of eight undescribed gentianellane-type sesterterpenoids (18-epi-nitidasin, gentianelloids D-F, and 18-epi-gentianelloids C-F), one undescribed 11,12-seco-gentianellane (18-epi-alborosin), and three known analogs (nitidasin, gentianelloid C and alborosin) among which gentianelloid C was found for the first time from a natural source. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses (including 1D and 2D NMR, HRMS, IR, and specific rotation) and in the case of 18-epi-gentianelloid C by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. A putative biosynthetic route for these sesterterpenoids was proposed. The immunosuppressive activity of the isolated compounds was also evaluated by their ability to inhibit the proliferation of T cells and T cell cytokine IFN-γ production. Nitidasin suppressed IFN-γ production with an IC50 value of 16.50 µM, while gentianelloid F and alborosin inhibited the proliferation of and IFN-γ production in T cells with IC50 values of 12.40-14.66 µM.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To conduct a pilot trial to explore the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion robots in treating primary dysmenorrhea (PD) and evaluate its feasibility in clinic. METHODS: A total of 70 participants with PD were allocated to either moxibustion robot (MR) group (35 cases) or manual moxibustion (MM) group (35 cases) using computer-generated randomization. One acupoint Guanyuan (CV 4) was selected to receive moxa heat stimulation. Two groups of participants were given 3 menstrual cycles of MM and MR treatment respectively (once a day, 5 days a session) and received another 3 menstrual cycles follow-up. The degree of pain was evaluated by short-form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and the symptoms of dysmenorrhea were evaluated by Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale (CMSS). The safety was measured by the occurrence rate of adverse events (AEs), including burns (blisters, red and swollen), itching, bowel changes, menstrual cycle disorder, menorrhagia and fatigue, etc. RESULTS: A total of 62 patients completed the trial, 32 in MR group and 30 in MM group. Compared with baseline, scores of SF-MPQ and CMSS significantly decreased in both groups (P<0.05), and no significant difference was observed between the two groups in the 3rd and 6th menstrual cycles (P>0.05). The total occurrence rate of AEs in MR group was 2.1%, which was significantly lower than MM group (7.2%, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: MR has the same effect as MM at SF-MPQ and CMSS in patients with PD. However, MR is safer than MM (Trial registration No. ChiCTR1800018236).

BACKGROUND: We assessed whether a postoperative bilateral, ultrasound-guided, posterior transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block could reduce 24 h rescue tramadol requirement compared with placebo in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery. METHODS: Patients scheduled to undergo elective laparoscopic surgery following the diagnosis of colorectal cancer were included in this study and randomized into Group and Group Control. The patients received a postoperative bilateral, ultrasound-guided, posterior TAP block in either 20 mL of 0.5% ropivacaine (Group TAP) per side or an equivalent volume of normal saline (Group Control). The primary outcome was the cumulative consumption of rescue tramadol within 24 h after the surgery. Secondary endpoints included (1) resting and movement numerical rating scale (NRS) pain scores at 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h; (2) incidences of related side effects; (3) time to the first request for rescue tramadol; (4) patient satisfaction regarding postoperative analgesia; (5) time to restoration of intestinal function; (6) time to mobilization; and (7) the length of hospital stay. RESULTS: In total, 92 patients were randomized, and 82 patients completed the analysis. The total rescue tramadol requirement (median [interquartile range]) within the first 24 h was lower in Group TAP (0 [0, 87.5] mg) than in Group Control (100 [100, 200] mg), P < 0.001. The posterior TAP block reduced resting and movement NRS pain scores at 2, 4, 6, 12, and 24 h after surgery (all P < 0.001) but showed similar scores at 48 h or 72 h. A higher level of satisfaction with postoperative analgesia was observed in Group TAP on day 1 (P = 0.002), which was similar on days 2 (P = 0.702) and 3 (P = 0.551), compared with the Group Control. A few incidences of opioid-related side effects (P < 0.001) and a lower percentage of patients requiring rescue tramadol analgesia within 24 h (P < 0.001) were observed in Group TAP. The time to the first request for rescue analgesia was prolonged, and the time to mobilization and flatus was reduced with a shorter hospital stay in Group TAP as compared with Group Control. CONCLUSIONS: A postoperative bilateral, ultrasound-guided, posterior TAP block resulted in better pain management and a faster recovery in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery, without adverse effects. RESUMEN

Four new steroids derivatives, namely arthriniumsteroids A - D (1-4), together with two known compounds, were isolated from the soft coral-derived fungus Simplicillium lanosoniveum SCSIO41212. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with those reported in the literature. The absolute configuration of 2 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In bioassay, all compounds showed weak inhibitory activities against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells.
