RESUMEN

To solve the problems of the lack of property research in organic synthesis experiments and the relative independence of instrumental analytical methods in experiments, we designed a comprehensive undergraduate experiment based on mechanofluorochromic materials. In this project, 4-[bis(4-methylphenyl)amino] benzaldehyde was synthesized via the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction using 4,4'-dimethyltriphenylamine as the raw material. The product was then characterized by mass spectrometry, infrared absorption spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The solvatofluorochromism and mechanofluorochromism of the target material were studied using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, etc. Furthermore, the mechanism of mechanofluorochromism was determined using powder X-ray diffraction. Organic synthesis and a series of instrumental analytical methods were combined to form an integrated experiment. The experiment is interesting, scientific, and comprehensive for undergraduates as a creative exercise; moreover, it can inspire their interest in chemical research, cultivate a variety of experimental operation abilities, improve creative-thinking skills, and encourage the development of effective solutions to existing problems in chemical experiments.

RESUMEN

Comprehensive experiments course is a bridge for higher vocational students to integrate theoretical knowledge with production practice. The article introduces that our biological pharmacy department is committed to the principles of "promotion of teaching, learning and construction through skills competition so as to integrate education and training". By taking penicillin fermentation process as an example, reform has been made in several aspects including teaching objectives, teaching content and teaching methods. We integrate the practical operation of fermentation equipment with virtual simulation software to develop a two-way interactive course. By reducing the subjective dependence, the quantitative management and evaluation of fermentation process parameter control were put into place, which efficiently integrated the skills competition with practical teaching. Improved teaching performance has been achieved over recent years, which may facilitate the reform and practice of similar courses based on skills competition.

Based on the demand of enterprise talents and the characteristics of manufacturing process management in biotechnology, in order to make the students acquire the ability to solve complex engineering problems in the production process, we developed a "Comprehensive Biotechnology Experiment" course, where two-step enzymatic production of l-aspartate and l-alanine were the key processes. In this course, we drew lessons from the site management of the production enterprise, performed the experimental operation mode of four shifts and three operations. The content of this course includes principles, methods and experimental techniques of several core curricula and the site management mode of enterprises. As to the evaluation, the summary of the experimental staff's handover records and the content of teamwork were examined and scored. Through teaching practice and continuous improvement, we developed a complete experimental teaching process and assessment mechanism. Overall, the Comprehensive Biotechnology Experiment course achieved good teaching effect, which may serve as a reference to promote the development of experimental teaching of biotechnology.

RESUMEN

"Flipped Classroom" is a new kind of "student-centered" teaching model, which can give full play to the advantages of both sides of teaching and learning. According to this teaching model, we redesigned the teaching process, in which the students studied by themselves and built their own knowledge system. Moreover, each of them took part in three stages of experimental design including digital signal collection, analysis and processing in groups. Results have shown that this model can fully stimulate students' learning interest, not only helps students to deepen understanding of digital signal processing theory knowledge, but also strengthen the ability of autonomous learning and team collaboration. The teaching model maybe have certain reference function in comprehensive experiment teaching of Digital Signal Processing course for biomedical engineering specialty.

The integration of science and education is an effective way for universities to cultivate students in cutting-edge innovative interests. Epigenetics is the expansion of classical genetics, the corresponding experimental courses of which have not been integrated into the current teaching system. In this paper, by taking advantage of our laboratory's research on the DNA methylation maintenance gene, OsMET1-2 in rice, we have integrated our innovative findings in the education curriculum, and built a comprehensive teaching system on experimentation research, which greatly stimulates the curiosity of the students. Taking the OsMET1-2 mutants and its isogenic wild-type rice plants as experimental materials, this course has successfully demonstrated a causal link between genetic mutation and epigenetic variation, a topic widely interested by the students in learning genetics and epigenetics. Through the practice of this course, students have a deeper understanding of the important role of epigenetic modifications, their scientific research capabilities have been greatly improved, thereby strongly supporting the cultivation of top innovative talents among the students.

Bioengineering majors require students to acquire excellent abilities of thinking and analyzing complex problems and have high requirements for students' comprehensive practical skills. Because of the professional characteristics, it is necessary to develop students' abilities to solve complex problems via the teaching of a series of experiments. Therefore, it is particularly important to reform the traditional experiment teaching for students majoring in bioengineering to improve the teaching quality, which have great significance for the cultivation of comprehensive talents. In this study, with the advantages of geographical location and resources to cultivate application-oriented innovative talents, the course group of Comprehensive Experiment of Bioengineering has designed the course based on virtual simulation technology in Binzhou University. Taking the experiment of extraction and bioactivity analysis of Suaeda salsa (growing in the Yellow River Delta) polysaccharide in fermentation as a case, we studied the course design idea, experimental process, teaching method and result analysis, and have improved the teaching performance. This case analysis provides new ideas and content reference for the teaching reform of similar courses.

RESUMEN

In the spirit of curriculum-centered principle, the research group actively explored the content construction, operation mode and teaching method reform of comprehensive experimental course of basic medicine. Guided by diseases and application, experimental teaching courses based on the preparation and intervention process of animal models of diseases were extensively carried out, and "innovative" experimental items were added to ensure that the course contents reflected the frontier and the times. The course construction was guided by the training of biomedical frontier methods, making efforts to cultivate students' learning ability, practical ability and innovative ability. In addition, on the basis of optimizing the course content construction oriented to practical application and innovation, a virtual simulation experiment project is built, combined with online-offline hybrid teaching, to improve the comprehensive practical ability of trainees.

RESUMEN

Comprehensive Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is a compulsory open online course that integrates lab skill training and innovation ability training for undergraduates majoring in biology in Beijing Normal University. This course focuses on alkaline phosphatase, including cloning of the Escherichia coli alkaline phosphatase gene, expression and purification of the protein, research on its enzymatic characteristics, preparation of its antibody and determination the titers of the antibody, etc. The comprehensive lab course covers from the gene to the protein, so that students can learn and master commonly used biochemical and molecular biology experimental techniques systematically. Escherichia coli alkaline phosphatase is an ideal experimental research object. And there are very classic and systematic scientific research literature reports. As important auxiliary teaching means, these literature resources can help teachers and students to carry out learning inquiries, form rational and critical scientific attitudes and spirits, and also greatly improve the quality of teaching and students' scientific research quality, which plays an important role in the construction of first-class course of Comprehensive Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

This innovative comprehensive experiment is a compulsory course for third-year undergraduate students in the eight-year training program leading to a Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Philosophy degree at Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC). There is a critical educational need to prepare these students for the increasing accessibility of research experience. This experimental curriculum of medical cell biology was developed to fulfill such a requirement, which consists of three experiments, including the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide tetrazolium) assay and the immunofluorescence and comet assays to observe antitumor drug-induced cell apoptosis. This experiment-based teaching system provides the participating students an opportunity to enhance their understanding of important biological research techniques and the instrumentation involved and to foster a better understanding of the research process within the classroom. Upon completion of the course, students' feedback showed that the curriculum increased their confidence in performing molecular techniques, and they reported positively on doing a research project in class. This course helped students improve their understanding of theoretical knowledge and actual research processes and contributed to their foundation for future research. © 2019 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 47(3):348-354, 2019.

Objective To explore the method and effect of applying just-in-time-teaching (JiTT) mode in the reform of the teaching method of biochemical comprehensive experiment (Isolation, Purification and Identification of γ-Globulin From serum). Methods A total of 100 undergraduate students in our 2016 clinical medicine were divided evenly into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. The control group used traditional teaching, and the experimental group used JiTT-based teaching. In the experimental group, an online environment for pre-classroom discussion and feedback was constructed by uploading learning resources such as short video and tutorials to the online teaching platform and the online learning exchange group 3-5 days before the class; the class session itself consisted of personal tests, face-to-face teaching by teachers, group discussion, finishing experimental report and answering questions etc., and was intended to evaluate the students' self-study. SPSS 22.0 was used to collect exam scores and questionnaire results, and the data between groups were compared using t test. Results The scores of individual test scores in the experimental group (9.44±0.59) were higher than those in the control group (8.77±0.41) (P=0.00), and the difference was statistically significant. In all the six questionnaire items pertaining to teaching effect , JiTT teaching method received higher scores than the traditional teaching method (P<0.05), and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion JiTT can improve the quality of biochemistry experiment teaching. It is worthwhile to try it in the teaching of other basic specialized courses.

RESUMEN

This study started with the comprehensive experimental research and practice of pre-ventive medicine. Taking the school of public health of China Medical University as an example, this paper introduced the ideas, principles, and experience of reform and implementation of comprehensive experimen-tal teaching. The methods of comprehensive experiments construction and implementation were introduced, such as subjects, application, basic training, implementation, writing, replying and score. In addition, the comprehensive experimental topics (such as classic experiment, new technology experiment, interesting ex-periment and fund project experiment et al), and basic training (such as literature searching, epidemiology and statistical analysis, laboratory safety and quality of experimental data, network sharing et al) were pre-sented in detail. It gave the evaluation that the comprehensive experimental teaching played an important role in the process of improving the quality of teaching and formed a unique preventive medicine experi-mental teaching system and talent training mode.

Scientific experiments are indispensable parts of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In this study, a comprehensive Biochemistry and Molecular Biology experiment about Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi Flagellar phase variation has been designed. It consisted of three parts, namely, inducement of bacterial Flagellar phase variation, antibody agglutination test, and PCR analysis. Phase variation was observed by baterial motility assay and identified by antibody agglutination test and PCR analysis. This comprehensive experiment can be performed to help students improve their ability to use the knowledge acquired in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the comprehensive experiment in fundamental nursing by using the indicator system and analyze the teaching effect.Methods 450 nursing graduates of grade 2011 were divided into 56 groups and comprehensive experiments were graded by using the indicator system in each group.Results The four indexes in level one scored (18.08±1.50),(19.99±2.31),(28.18±3.35),(18.16±1.73) points and accounted for 90% 、80% 、81%、91% respectively.The total points' scorings and proportions were (84.41±5.84) points and 84% respectively.Some deficiencies were found to be improved during evaluation.Conclusions Nursing comprehensive experiment evaluation indicator system can assess comprehensive experiments well,and the related competencies of nursing graduates need to be improved.
