RESUMEN

Hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol), silk sericin, and gelatin containing Camellia oleifera oil (CO)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) were fabricated. The loading of CO into CSNPs was achieved by a two-step procedure, which included an oil-in-water emulsion and an ionic gelation method. SEM images of CO-loaded CSNPs illustrated the spherical shape with aggregation of the nanoparticles. The particle size and polydispersity index were 541-1089 nm and 0.39-0.65, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity were 3-16 % and 4-6 %, respectively. The gelatin/poly(vinyl alcohol)/sericin hydrogels were fabricated and incorporated with CO or CO-loaded CSNPs with different concentrations of CO-loaded CSNPs. All hydrogels demonstrated a porous structure. Besides, the hydrogels containing CO-loaded CSNPs showed a more controlled and sustained release profile than the hydrogels containing CO. Moreover, the hydrogels showed tyrosinase inhibition (9-13 %) and antioxidant activity (37-60 %). Finally, the hydrogels containing CO-loaded CSNPs were non-toxic to the Normal Human Dermal Fibroblasts and NCTC clone 929 cells, even at a high dosage of 50 mg/mL. As a result, these hydrogels exhibited excellent potential for use in cosmeceutical industries.

In this study, the impact of formulated emulsion was studied on strawberries which were coated using dip and electrostatic spray coating methods. The coated strawberries were kept at room temperature for a period of 12 days. A significant level of chargeability of w/o emulsion was achieved in terms of charge-to-mass ratio of 2.81 mC/kg at an applied high voltage of 2.0 kV, applied air pressure of 0.3 MPa, and liquid flow rate of 33.6 ml/min. The distance of 170 mm from the nozzle tip to Faraday cage was maintained during the measurements. As compared to uncoated and dip coated strawberries, the water-in-oil based electrostatically charged sprays considerably (p < 0.05) reduced the weight loss, decay rate, pH, titrable acidity, TSS, and antioxidant activity. In both the cases, i.e. strawberries coated with dip and electrostatic spray coating methods, the same weight loss was observed, however, there was a considerably less weight loss as compared to uncoated samples. The textures of the uncoated (9.02 N) and dip coated (12.58 N) samples were significantly different from the electrostatic spray coated (15.85 N) samples. Since, the coating formulation had no impact on the sensory attributes, the samples were considered as acceptable at the end of the storage. Furthermore, compared to uncoated, water-in-oil based electrostatically charged spray coating was more effective at delaying the decay by 12 days.

The incorporation of molecular adjuvants has revolutionized vaccine by boosting overall immune efficacy. While traditional efforts have been concentrated on the quality and quantity of vaccine components, the impact of adjuvant and antigen delivery kinetics on immunity remains to be fully understood. Here, we employed poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticle (PLGA NP) -stabilized Pickering emulsion (PPE) to refine the delivery kinetics of molecular adjuvant CpG and antigen, aiming to optimize immune responses. The hierarchical structure of PPE enabled spatially differential loading of CpG and antigen. The component inserted on the oil-water interphase exhibited a rapid release profile, while the one encapsulated in the PLGA NPs demonstrated a sustained release. This led to distinct intracellular spatial-temporal release kinetics. Compared to the PPE with sustained CpG release and burst release of antigen, we found that the PPE with rapid CpG release and sustained antigen release triggered an early and robust activation of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) in direct way. This fostered a more immunogenic microenvironment, significantly outperforming the inverted delivery profile in dendritic cells (DCs) activation, resulting in higher CD40 expression, elevated proinflammatory cytokine levels, sustained antigen cross-presentation, an enhanced Th1 response, and increased CD8+ T cells. Moreover, prior exposure of CpG led to suppressed tumor growth and enhanced efficacy in Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) vaccine. Our findings underscore the importance of tuning adjuvant and antigen delivery kinetics in vaccine design, proposing a novel path for enhancing vaccination outcomes.

Texture-modified, multi-nutrient composite foods are essential in clinical treatment for dysphagia individuals. Herein, fibrous whey protein-stabilized emulsion and different crystalline starches (wheat, corn, rice, potato, sweet potato, cassava, mung bean and pea) were used to structure composite emulsion gels (CEGs). These CEGs then underwent 3D printing to explore the feasibility of developing a dysphagia diet. The network of molded CEGs was mainly maintained by hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds. Rice and cassava starches were better suited for structuring soft-textured CEGs. Compared with molded CEGs, 3D printing decreased hydrogen bonds and the compactness of the nano-aggregate structure within the gel system, forming a looser gel network and softening the CEGs. Interestingly, these effects were more pronounced for the CEGs with high initial hardness. This study provided new strategy to fabricate CEGs as dysphagia diet using fibrous whey protein and starch, and to design texture-modified foods for patients using 3D printing.

With the increasing demand of recycling disposal of industrial wastewater, oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion has been paid much attention in recent years owing to its high oil content. However, due to the presence of surfactant and salt, the emulsion was usually stable with complex physicochemical interfacial properties leading to increased processing difficulty. Herein, a novel flow-through electrode-based demulsification reactor (FEDR) was well designed for the treatment of saline O/W emulsion. In contrast to 53.7% for electrical demulsification only and 80.3% for filtration only, the COD removal efficiency increased to 92.8% under FEDR system. Moreover, the pore size of electrode and the applied voltage were two key factors that governed the FEDR demulsification performance. By observing the morphology of oil droplets deposited layer after different operation conditions and the behavior of oil droplets at the electrode surface under different voltage conditions, the mechanism was proposed that the oil droplets first accumulated on the surface of flow-through electrode by sieving effect, subsequently the gathered oil droplets could further coalesce with the promoting effect of the anode, leading to a high-performing demulsification. This study offers an attractive option of using flow-through electrode to accomplish the oil recovery with simultaneous water purification.

Soft solid emulsions are liquid droplets encapsulated in a soft solid material. Typical of dispersed systems, they can combine properties from both the liquid inclusions and the soft solids. The relative importance of the two phases in the rheological response is captured through the elastocapillary number, which compares capillary forces in the liquid inclusions to the matrix rigidity. We work with solid emulsions formed of poly(ethylene glycol) droplets in a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) continuous phase. We create three families of emulsions with varying elastocapillary numbers, and range of inclusion volume fractions from 0 to 0.5. Through oscillatory rheology we probe both the elastic response and the dissipative effects of liquid droplets. In the case of a dominant response from the continuous phase or the drops, the results can be described with Palierne's model. However, for the intermediate elastocapillary series we show that the evolution of the storage and loss moduli decouple with dispersed phase volume fraction. We attribute the increase of loss factor with volume fraction to the high polydispersity in droplet size. We can further modulate the response of the materials by cooling to freeze the droplets. This approach allows us to compare these soft solid emulsions with theories related to solid dispersions.

In this study, the curcumin was firstly encapsulated in gelatin (GLT) and/or cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) stabilized emulsions, then further mixed with sodium alginate (SA) to form emulsion-filled hydrogel beads loaded with curcumin (Cur). The Cur-loaded emulsions showed a droplet size of 20.3-24.4 µm with a uniform distribution. Introducing CNC and/or SA increased the viscosity of emulsions accompanied by viscoelastic transition, while the modulus was reduced due to destruction of GLT gel. Cur was doubly immobilized in the hydrogel beads with >90 % of encapsulation efficiency. The results of simulated gastrointestinal tract experiments revealed that the beads possessed a good pH sensitivity and controlled release behavior to prolong the retention of Cur in the gastrointestinal tract. After 6 h of UV irradiation, the Cur-loaded emulsion-filled hydrogel beads showed a higher antioxidant activity than that of pure Cur, effectively delaying the photodegradation of Cur. In addition, the beads had better stability in aqueous and acidic environments, which was favorable for prolonging the release of Cur. These results suggest that the emulsion-filled hydrogel beads have great potential for the delivery of lipophilic bioactive molecules.

Waterborne polyurethane asphalt emulsion (WPUA) is an environmentally friendly bituminous material, whose performance is highly dependent on the phase structure of the continuous phase. In this paper, WPUAs in the vicinity of phase inversion were prepared using waterborne polyurethane (WPU) and asphalt emulsion. The chemical structures, thermal stability, dynamic mechanical properties, phase-separated morphology and mechanical performance of WPUAs were studied. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectra revealed that there are no -NCO bonds in either the pure WPU or WPUAs. Moreover, the preparation of WPUA is a physical process. The addition of WPU weakens the thermal stability of asphalt emulsion. WPU improves the storage modulus of asphalt emulsion at lower and higher temperatures. The glass transition temperatures of the WPUA films are higher than that of the pure WPU film. When the WPU concentration increases from 30 wt% to 40 wt%, phase inversion occurs; that is, the continuous phase shifts from asphalt to WPU. The WPUA films have lower tensile strength and toughness than the pure WPU film. However, the elongations at break of the WPUA films are higher than that of the pure WPU film. Both the tensile strength and toughness of the WPUA films increase with the WPU concentration. Due to the occurrence of phase inversion, the elongation at break, tensile strength and toughness of the WPUA film containing 30 wt% WPU are increased by 29%, 250% and 369%, respectively, compared to the film with 40 wt% WPU.

In this study, the effect of sodium alginate and quaternized chitosan bis-polysaccharide-based shell transport curcumin nano-emulsions (Cur@QCS/SA) on the microbiological, physicochemical properties, quality characteristics of Harbin red sausage during storage is investigated. According to the microbiological results, the shelf life of Harbin red sausage is extended from 3 d to 6 d by adding 0.15% Cur@QCS/SA, and Bacillus is the most predominant bacterial before 6 d. Additionally, the physicochemical properties change significantly, the pH, weight loss (WL), water holding capacity (WHC), water activity (aw), L*, and a* of red sausage decrease gradually with the extension of storage time, as well as b*, lipid oxidation, proteolysis increase significantly (P < 0.05). Secondly, it is found that 0.15% treatment group can better maintain the quality characteristics of Harbin red sausage according to texture profile analysis (TPA), electronic nose (E-nose), and electronic tongue (E-tongue) (P < 0.05). This study provides a new way for nano-emulsions in food applications and a new option for the preservation of Harbin red sausage as well as other low-temperature meat products.

INTRODUCTION: Intravenous lipid emulsion is used in the rescue treatment of certain poisonings. A complication is interference with laboratory analyses. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of intravenous lipid emulsion on routine laboratory analysis of coagulation parameters ex vivo and determine if any of the analytical techniques remain reliable. METHODS: Samples were obtained from 19 healthy volunteers and divided in triplicate. One sample served as a control, and the other two were diluted to simulate the treatment of an average adult with Intralipid® 20 per cent Fresenius Kabi 100 mL (dilution-1) or 500 mL (dilution-2). Coagulation tests performed were prothrombin time, activated prothrombin time, D-dimer concentration and fibrinogen. Coagulation testing was performed by three techniques. Test-1 was performed on a Sysmex CN6000 analyzer. Test-2 was performed with a manual mechanical endpoint method using the semi-automated Stago KC4 Delta. Test-3 involved high-speed centrifugation before repeat testing on the Sysmex CN6000 analyzer. RESULTS: For test-1, only nine (47 per cent) samples in dilution-1 could be analyzed for coagulation tests, and no coagulation tests could be analyzed for dilution-2 because of lipaemia. For test-2 and test-3, all samples could be analyzed, and all results of both testing methods fell within the limits of the laboratory reference range. DISCUSSION: Difficulties in laboratory analysis of patients having received intravenous lipid emulsion are due to multiple factors. Most automated coagulation analyzers use optical measurements, which can be unreliable in the presence of a high intravenous lipid concentration. By altering the lipaemia in the testing solution using high-speed centrifugation or by using manual mechanical endpoint detection, we were able to obtain reliable results. These findings are limited by the use of an ex vivo method and healthy volunteers. CONCLUSIONS: This ex vivo model confirms that Intralipid® interferes with routine coagulation studies. It is important that clinicians are aware and inform their laboratories of its administration.

There has been a surge in effort in the development of various solid nanoparticles as Pickering emulsion stabilizers in the past decades. Regardless, the exploration of stabilizers that simultaneously stabilize and deliver bioactive has been limited. For this, liposomes with amphiphilic nature have been introduced as Pickering emulsion stabilizers but these nano-sized vesicles lack targeting specificity. Therefore in this study, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) encapsulated within liposomes (MLP) were used as Pickering emulsion stabilizers to prepare pH and magnetic-responsive Pickering emulsions. A stable MLP-stabilized Pickering emulsion formulation was established by varying the MLP pH, concentration, and oil loading during the emulsification process. The primary stabilization mechanism of the emulsion under pH variation was identified to be largely associated with the MLP phosphate group deprotonation. When subjected to sequential pH adjustment to imitate the gastrointestinal digestion pH environment, a recovery in Pickering emulsion integrity was observed as the pH changes from acidic to alkaline. By incorporating SPION, the Pickering emulsion can be guided to the targeted site under the influence of a magnetic field without compromising emulsion stability. Overall, the results demonstrated the potential of MLP-stabilized Pickering emulsion as a dual pH- and magnetic-responsive drug delivery carrier with the ability to co-encapsulate hydrophobic and hydrophilic bioactive.

In the alkaline-surfactant-polymer flooding emulsion, oil droplets with various sizes exhibited different interfacial properties, resulting in different stabilization and destabilization behaviors. In view of this, it is expected to achieve outstanding oil-water separation efficiency by screening targeted demulsifier for oil droplets with different size ranges (0-1, 1-5 and 5-10 µm). Based on the size effect of oil droplets, a series of multibranched polyether-polyquaternium demulsifiers that integrated different charge neutralization and interfacial displacement functionalities were designed by regulating the cationicity and EO:PO ratios. As a result, the most effective polyether-polyquaternium variant for each size range of oil droplet was screened out. By employing these three selected polyether-polyquaternium variants in a sequential batch demulsification test, the maximum demulsification efficiency of 95.1% was obtained, which was much higher than that using a single polyether-polyquaternium variant (82.5%, 80.5% and 83.8%). The adsorption behaviors of polyether-polyquaternium variants on the oil/water interface were investigated by the molecular dynamics simulation. Moreover, the interfacial properties and oil droplet size variations during the demulsification process were monitored, so as explore the demulsification mechanism. This demulsification protocol based on the size effect of oil droplets with its excellent oil-water separation performance offered significant technical promise for the emulsified oil wastewater disposal.

Extracting clean water from oily wastewater and seawater is one of the effective strategies to alleviate the freshwater crisis. However, achieving both high separation efficiency and excellent salt resistance remain challenges for materials. Herein, a novel methyltrichlorosilane-modified polyvinyl alcohol/cellulose aerogel (MPCA) was prepared by freeze drying, chemical cross-linking, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) methods. The superwetting MPCA presented an asymmetric structure, in which the small dense pores at the top surface facilitated the efficient separation of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions and the large pores on the bottom surface were beneficial for brine exchange. The as-prepared superwetting aerogel was suitable for the separation of various W/O emulsions with excellent separation flux (631.9-2368.7 L·m-2·h-1) and outstanding separation efficiency (99.5 %). In addition, MPCA achieved a high evaporation efficiency of 1.39 kg·m-2·h-1 and a satisfactory energy conversion efficiency of 89.7 %. Moreover, the unique asymmetric structure endowed the evaporator excellent salt resistance and could self-dissolve the accumulated salt in 20 min. The as-prepared MPCA could achieve efficient W/O emulsion separation as well as produce freshwater in seawater, providing a new strategy for oily waste seawater purification.

A universal, green, and rapid lignin-based emulsive liquid-liquid microextraction (ELLME) method was established to detect nine triazole fungicides in water, juice, vinegar, and alcoholic beverages via UHPLC-MS/MS. By employing an environmentally friendly emulsifier (lignin), the proposed ELLME was compatible with more extractants, and not restricted to fatty acids. Due to the high amphiphilic properties and three-dimensional structure of lignin, the emulsion was quickly formed through several aspirate-dispense cycles of the green extractant (guaiacol) and lignin solution. And a micropipette was used for rapid microextraction. The limit of detection was 0.0002-0.0057 µg L-1. The extraction recoveries and relative standard deviation were 81.7%-102.0% and 0.9%-7.1%, respectively. Finally, three green metric tools were used to verify the greenness of the whole procedure. The proposed lignin-based ELLME successfully emulsified green solvents, indicating that emerging solvents may be excellent alternatives as extractants in ELLME for pesticide residue analysis in food samples.

A novel biodegradable film was fabricated by incorporating bacterial nanocellulose stabilized valerian root extract (VRE) Pickering emulsion into karaya gum with better antioxidant and antibacterial properties for lamb meat preservation. The valerian root extract Pickering emulsion (VPE) exhibited 98 ±â€¯1.84 % encapsulating efficiency and excellent physical stability with an average particle size of 274.6 nm. The incorporation of VPE-5 into the film matrix increased its elongation at break (EAB), and improved water resistance and barrier properties against oxygen, water vapor, and UV light. Moreover, the antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties against S.aerous and E. coli were also improved based on VPE-5 concentration. The SEM images showed a uniform distribution of VPE-5 while FTIR and XRD revealed its compatibility with karaya gum, which improved its thermal stability. The active films showed a significant preservative effect by reducing the pH, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and total viable count (TVC) value of lamb meat and maintained its texture and color during the storage period of 9 days at 4 °C. These results demonstrated the inclusion of VPE-5 into Karaya gum was a promising technique and offers a great potential application as a bioactive material in food packaging.

This study examined the impacts of ultrasonic power (0, 150, 300, 450, 600, and 750 W) and ultrasonic durations (3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 min) on the physicochemical properties and microstructure of diacylglycerol (DAG)-loaded emulsions stabilized with soybean protein isolate (SPI) and sodium alginate (SA). The findings indicated that the smallest particle size, zeta potential, and contact angle for SPI-SA-DAG emulsions were respectively 5.58 µm, -49.85 mV, and 48.65°, achieved at an ultrasonic power of 450 W. The emulsification properties, loss modulus, storage modulus, and apparent viscosity of the emulsions were optimal at this power setting and at a duration of 9 min. Analytical techniques, including confocal laser scanning-, scanning electron-, and atomic force microscopy, revealed that ultrasonication significantly altered emulsion aggregation state, with the surface roughness (Rq) being minimized at 450 W. These results demonstrated that the stability of SPI-SA-DAG emulsions can be effectively enhanced by an appropriate ultrasonic treatment at 450 W for 9 min. This research provides theoretical support for the broad application of sonication techniques in the food industry.

Developing plastic/fluorine/silicon-free and degradable water/oil-resistant coatings for paper-based packaging materials to replace disposable plastic products is a very effective way to solve the problem of 'white pollution' or microplastics pollution. A novel water/oil-resistant coating was developed by alkyl ketene dimer (AKD)-based Pickering emulsion and chitosan in this work. Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) were used as a stabilizing solid for AKD emulsion, with the addition of chitosan as an oil-resistance agent. The coating provides excellent hydrophobicity, water/oil resistance as well as good barrier properties. The water contact angle was as high as 130° and the minimum Cobb60 value was 5.7 g/m2, which was attributed to the hydrophobicity of AKD. In addition, the kit rating reached maximum 12/12 at coating weight of 8.26 g/m2 and the water vapor transmittance rate (WVTR) was reduced to 153.4 g/(m2⋅day) at the coating weight of 10.50 g/m2. The tensile strength of the paper was increased from 28.1 to 43.6 MPa after coating. Overall, this coating can effectively improve the performance of paper-based materials, which may play an important role in the process of replacing disposable plastic packaging with paper-based materials.

HYPOTHESIS: Poor storage stability and oxidative deterioration are the common drawbacks of edible oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). We hypothesized that the natural zein/tannic acid self-assembly nanoparticles (ZT NPs) could be employed as stabilizers to anchor at the oil-water interface, thus constructing Pickering emulsion gel (PKEG) system for three types of PUFA-rich oils, soybean oil (SO), fish oil (FO) and cod liver oil (CLO), to improve the storage and oxidation stability. EXPERIMENTS: ZT NPs were prepared by the anti-solvent coprecipitation method, and the three-phase contact angle, FT-IR, and XRD were mainly characterized. To observe the shell-core structure and oil-water interface details of SO/FO/CLO PKEGs by confocal laser scanning microscope and cryo-scanning electron microscope. Accelerated oxidation of FO was performed to assess the protective effect of PKEG on lipids. FINDINGS: The SO, FO, and CLO PKEGs stabilized by 2 % ZT NPs, with oil fraction (φ = 0.5-0.6), were obtained. PKEGs show high viscoelasticity, clear shell-core structure spatial network structure, and ideal storage stability. Under accelerated oxidation, the degree of oxidative rancidity of FO PKEG was obviously lower than that of free FO. Overall, this work opens up new possibilities for using natural PKEG to prevent oxidative deterioration and prolong the shelf-life of PUFA-rich oils.

Essential oils possess significant antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and are increasingly used as natural substitutes for food preservation. Therefore, this study investigated the potential application of rosemary essential oil (REO) and REO nano-emulsion in the dairy plant. The antimicrobial effects of REO and REO nano-emulsion were determined by an agar well diffusion assay after chemical profiling by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The REO nano-emulsion was characterized by a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The REO chemical profile revealed the presence of 42 chemical compounds, including 1, 8-cineole (9.72 %), and α-pinene (5.46 %) as major active components. REO nano-emulsion demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity compared to REO (P < 0.05) with a MIC value of 0.0001 mg/ml against Listeria monocytogenes and Aspergillus flavus and 0.001 mg/ml against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus. REO nano-emulsion enhanced the oxidative stability of pasteurized fresh cream, revealing a non-significant difference compared with that inoculated with butylated hydroxy anisol (BHA; synthetic antioxidant) (P˃ 0.05). Fortified cream and Karish cheese with REO nano-emulsion were evaluated organoleptically, and the results showed higher grades of overall acceptability when compared to control samples with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Viability studies were estimated using the previously mentioned microorganisms in fortified fresh cream and Karish cheese with REO nano-emulsion. Results of the fortified cream showed a complete reduction of L. monocytogenes, A. flavus, and B. cereus on days 5, 7, and 10, respectively, and a 96.93 % reduction of P. aeruginosa by the end of the storage period. Regarding Karish cheese viability studies, C. albicans, A. flavus, and P. aeruginosa exhibited complete reduction on days 10, 10, and 15 of storage, respectively. In conclusion, REO nano-emulsion was recommended as a natural, safe, and effective antimicrobial and antioxidant additive in the dairy industry.

The effects of oil type, emulsifier type, and emulsion particle size on the texture, gel strength, and rheological properties of SPI emulsion-filled gel (SPI-FG) and TFSP emulsion-filled gel (TFSP-FG) were investigated. Using soybean protein isolate or sodium caseinate as emulsifiers, emulsions with cocoa butter replacer (CBR), palm oil (PO), virgin coconut oil (VCO), and canola oil (CO) as oil phases were prepared. These emulsions were filled into SPI and TFSP gel substrates to prepare emulsion-filled gels. Results that the hardness and gel strength of both gels increased with increasing emulsion content when CBR was used as the emulsion oil phase. However, when the other three liquid oils were used as the oil phase, the hardness and gel strength of TFSP-FG decreased with the increasing of emulsion content, but those of SPI-FG increased when SPI was used as emulsifier. Additionally, the hardness and gel strength of both TFSP-FG and SPI-FG increased with the decreasing of mean particle size of emulsions. Rheological measurements were consistent with textural measurements and found that compared with SC, TFSP-FG, and SPI-FG showed higher G' values when SPI was used as emulsifier. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) observation showed that the distribution and stability of emulsion droplets in TFSP-FG and SPI-FG were influenced by the oil type, emulsifier type and emulsion particle size. SPI-stabilized emulsion behaved as active fillers in SPI-FG reinforcing the gel matrix; however, the gel matrix of TFSP-FG still had many void pores when SPI-stabilized emulsion was involved. In conclusion, compared to SPI-FG, the emulsion filler effect that could reinforce gel networks became weaker in TFSP-FG.
