RESUMEN

This paper explores how digital entrepreneurs' intention toward blockchain technology adoption, perception of reduced costs, and knowledge of Artificial Intelligence impact achieving UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), drawing attention from various sectors. Present study applies explanatory sequential mixed method for data collection. Moreover, to work with the dual face patterned data, PLS-SEM is used to perform quantitative analysis of the data collected from 389 digital entrepreneurs who are chosen through purposive sampling and then content analysis is performed for the qualitative data according to the explanatory sequential mixed method's rule of thumb. The study's quantitative phase shows that factors such as perceived ease of use and usefulness of Industry 4.0 technologies, knowledge of artificial intelligence (KAI), and perception of reduced cost positively influence digital entrepreneurs' intention to adopt blockchain technology (BCT). Notably, KAI has the strongest impact. In the qualitative phase, it's found that digital entrepreneurs' KAI and willingness to adopt BCT strongly align with achieving several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), suggesting BCT adoption's potential for sustainable outcomes. The outcomes of this study set a new benchmark in the domain of SDGs achievement with careful integration to Industry 4.0, AI and BCT. This study results undoubtedly instigate the digital entrepreneurs to adopt BCT in doing their start-up and convince the policymakers to set regulatory landscape with convenient environment for the utilization of BCT which then ultimately accelerates the achievement of SDGs.

RESUMEN

This article examines the political history of tobacco control policy in South Africa from 1948 to 2018 by drawing on available historical documents, media reports, published books and articles, the grey literature, and face-to-face interviews with key policy actors. Tracing the historical evolution of tobacco control policies in South Africa reveals how embedded opposition from vested interest groups at every stage of the policy process complicates responses to the tobacco issue. This case study demonstrates how, despite such embedded difficulties, a confluence of regime change, evidence-based messaging, political will, policy entrepreneurs, and advocacy coalitions have led to the gradual transformation of tobacco control policy in South Africa over time. Understanding the historical evolution of tobacco control policy in South Africa opens up space for an in-depth inquiry that allows researchers to trace the policy-making process over the last seven decades, and to understand how those processes have facilitated a shift in the orientation of policy makers over time.

RESUMEN

This paper aims to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and mental health of necessary entrepreneurs in Brasilian favelas, the social problems they experienced and implications for public health social work. The study used structured in-person interviews within selected Favela's, with a sample size of 721 entrepreneurs, aged between 16-70 years. All participants both worked and were resident in 15 out of the 27 Brasilian federal states. The bespoke questions explored socio-demographic questions, sought information on their entrepreneurship, health and administered the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale for Health. The results highlighted that many entrepreneurs have engaged in this form of enterprise due to economic necessity, with 64% of women and 43.6% of men identifying increased levels of anxiety through the pandemic, with the presence of children in the family being statistically significant (p ≤ 0.05 chi-square test) for anxiety. Of the 9.8% sample respondents have accessed the health care service and for women with children, the impact of the pandemic accentuated existing problems of childcare and patriarchy. We conclude by highlighting the importance of universal and accessible health and mental health support and care, their ongoing accessibility, along with the importance of social work during crisis.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to examine the main challenges that these entrepreneurs in developing nations confront. This study utilizes a digital startup database maintained by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship (MoDEE) in Jordan and conducts semi-structured interviews with a random selection of 85 early-stage digital entrepreneurs. In order to understand the cognitive and psychological characteristics of digital entrepreneurs and their motives for entering the field, this study draws on the theory of planned behavior. Using NVivo 20, a theme analysis is carried out. Based on the interviews conducted, the top industries among the startups that were looked at were big data and business analytics, internet-of-things (IoT), cybersecurity (CT) technology, food service and agri-tech, warehouse automation (WA) and elastic logistics (ELs), conversional artificial intelligence (CAI), financial technology (FinTech), and block chain technology (BCT). 42.5 % of the target population is represented by the large sample size that was used. These obstacles could include long-term funding, a dearth of one-on-one coaching and guidance, unforeseen risks or setbacks, and financial constraints. The study's conclusions may provide policymakers with a tactical manual for removing the main barriers that emerging digital entrepreneurs and their firms must overcome.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: We examine an integrative model associating entrepreneurial motivation and job satisfaction with basic psychological needs satisfaction and the psychological well-being (PWB) and health problems of European entrepreneurs. In contrast with previous literature that focuses mainly on hedonic well-being, this study examines well-being by using a eudaimonic perspective and the link between entrepreneurial motivation and entrepreneurs' PWB. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Based on the self-determination theory (SDT) and using structural equation modeling, this study examines a European representative sample composed of 7,878 entrepreneurs from the sixth European Working Conditions Survey (6th EWCS; Eurofound [2015] database). FINDINGS: This study finds a positive relationship between the satisfaction of the need for autonomy and competence and opportunity motivation, which in turn is positively associated with job satisfaction. This study also finds that need satisfaction is positively associated with entrepreneurs' PWB and job satisfaction, which in turn is positively associated with entrepreneurs' PWB and health. Results highlight the relevance of SDT, opportunity motivation, and job satisfaction to understanding entrepreneurs' PWB and health. ORIGINALITY: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first integrative model relating satisfaction of basic psychological needs (autonomy and competence) and diverse individual outcomes related to work (job satisfaction, PWB, and health) of European entrepreneurs by considering entrepreneurial motivation. This study examines a large and representative European sample, in contrast with previous research focusing on the Anglosphere nations.

RESUMEN

Entrepreneurial well-being is tied to increasing firm performance because entrepreneurs possess additional resources to invest in their businesses. However, research integrating antecedents, specific mechanisms related to the emergence of entrepreneurial well-being (EWB), and performance is scarce. Furthermore, the collective impact of their roles as entrepreneurs and individuals outside the work context is yet to be investigated concerning venture performance. The present study addresses these issues by presenting and testing a comprehensive model employing entrepreneurs' psychological capital as an antecedent of EWB and, indirectly, performance. We investigate this relationship through a serial mediation mechanism enabled by work engagement and entrepreneurial satisfaction regarding entrepreneurs' work roles. Also, we employ work-life balance and mental health as mediators regarding their home roles. Drawing on data from 217 Romanian entrepreneurs, structural equation modeling analyses supported our model. PsyCap was a precursor of entrepreneurial satisfaction both directly and through work engagement. Also, PsyCap predicted entrepreneurs' mental health directly and through work-life balance. Furthermore, both EWB components - entrepreneurial satisfaction and mental health - were associated with business performance. Hence, our model provides valuable insights regarding the interplay between entrepreneurs' work and home roles and their relation to EWB and venture performance. It also provides the basis for future interventions that can psychologically prepare entrepreneurs to be successful in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Uncorrected presbyopia has been shown to reduce Zanzibari women's quality of life. In this mixed-methods study, we examined the subjective wellbeing and self-reported work performance among older women entrepreneurs with functional presbyopia before and shortly after correction, and how poor vision at close distance affected their daily lives. METHODS: Women entrepreneurs underwent eye examination to identify those with uncorrected functional presbyopia. Their subjective wellbeing and work performance were both measured in Cantril's ladder. Ready-made glasses were then provided and 30 minutes to an hour later, their subjective wellbeing and work performance was remeasured. Twenty women entrepreneurs were interviewed to understand their lived experience with uncorrected presbyopia. RESULTS: Two-hundred-seventeen women entrepreneurs were included in the survey (mean age 51.6 years, SD 8.64). Women entrepreneurs had a mean subjective wellbeing score of 3.32 (SD 1.10) pre-correction and 5.99 (SD 1.13) post-correction (p < .001), and a mean self-rated current work performance score of 4.62 (SD 1.36) before correction and 5.47 (SD 1.35) post-correction (p < .001). One-hundred-and-ninety (87.6%) and 121 women entrepreneurs (55.8%) rated their current subjective wellbeing and work performance scores < 5, respectively. Around 1/4 of women entrepreneurs reported having severe difficulties with near tasks. CONCLUSION: Poor vision at a close distance caused by uncorrected functional presbyopia negatively affected economic, physical and psychosocial aspects of women entrepreneurs' lives. Subjective wellbeing and self-reported work productivity scores improved significantly shortly after presbyopia was corrected. More research with longer follow-up is needed to understand the full benefits of correcting presbyopia.

RESUMEN

The literature on professional socialization suggests that their training and socialization lead physicians to prioritize professionally prescribed activities over entrepreneurial activity. This leaves unexplained how and why early career physicians would engage in entrepreneurship, a behavior that many healthcare organizations now seek to encourage. To address this shortcoming, we conducted an inductive study, augmented with survey data, of UK National Health Service physicians involved in entrepreneurial projects. We detail a process of physician entrepreneurship underpinned by organizational improvement motives and identification with the organization. Entrepreneurs breached constraining roles and formed ventures which originated as intrapreneurial initiatives but shifted to individual-level resourcing. Entrepreneurial behaviors coincided with physicians' commitment to remain with the NHS albeit with adjustments to their career plans. Overall, the study suggests that physicians manage the pressure exerted by professional socialization by adapting both the kind of entrepreneurial projects and career pathways they pursue.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Nursing entrepreneurship represents an important opportunity for the nursing profession to address population health challenges and improve health care access. Although nurse entrepreneurs can be agents of change, the role of self-efficacy, as a determinant of nurses' success in business, is under-studied conceptually and in research. PURPOSE: This paper presents an in-depth concept analysis and model of self-efficacy within the context of the nurse entrepreneur role. METHODS: We used Walker and Avant's concept analysis methodology. DISCUSSION: A systematic understanding of self-efficacy in nurse entrepreneurs provides insights into how it may influence their judgments and actions. Our analysis sets the stage for research on how self-efficacy in nurse entrepreneurs impacts success in the nursing business. CONCLUSION: A conceptual model of self-efficacy in nurse entrepreneurs can guide their development through education and networking activities that incorporate experiential components to improve leadership and managerial skills for success in the health care business.

RESUMEN

This data article collects and validates a multivariate dataset on personality traits, social, and cognitive predictors of the entrepreneurial intention of 276 students of three Omani universities. Administering a validated questionnaire, a pilot study was conducted by taking a sample of 60 responses to ensure the robustness of the survey scales. Following the pilot study, the final data were collected from 276 UG and PG level students in February 2021, which were first cleaned for missing, unengaged, and outlier responses before going ahead with statistical analyses. The data were also checked for common method bias by applying Cook's distance method which was followed by establishing the measurement model (ensuring model fitness, convergent and divergent validities) by running a CFA model in AMOS. The dataset from this data article would be of significant use for the researchers studying nascent and student entrepreneurship and Oman universities and the government in developing an entrepreneurship course curriculum.

RESUMEN

This paper studies the effect of oil price shocks on China's consumer and entrepreneur sentiment using a novel Bayesian inference structural vector autoregression model. Interestingly, we find that oil supply and demand shocks that raise oil prices have significantly positive effects on both consumer and entrepreneur sentiment. These effects are more significant on entrepreneur sentiment than on consumer sentiment. Furthermore, oil price shocks promote consumer sentiment mainly by increasing their satisfaction with current income and their expectation of future employment. Oil price shocks would change consumers' saving and consumption decisions but not their plans to buy cars. Meanwhile, the effect of oil price shocks on entrepreneur sentiment differs across different types of enterprises and industries.

RESUMEN

The aim of the article is to analyse the factors influencing entrepreneurs' decisions about investing in renewable energy. It outlines a number of different factors that may affect the process of transforming entrepreneurs into business prosumers, who thus want to limit the effects of rising energy prices. The article defends the thesis that in addition to the economic, technological and psychological dimensions, legal and political stability, access to reliable information and the level of trust in a given society are equally important. Based on the quantitative research results, the article indicates which elements are particularly important for entrepreneurs when making decisions about investing in renewable energy and which institutions are indicated by Polish entrepreneurs as responsible for implementing energy transition. The article also indicates that information about the possibility of receiving funding from the European Union and the government, the government's energy policy and technological possibilities is important for entrepreneurs' decisions about investing in renewable energy in Poland. It is always difficult to implement sustainable development goals without an atmosphere of trust and predictable legal stability in which entrepreneurs can run their businesses. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health technological innovations from startup companies used in clinical practice can yield better health outcomes, reduce health care costs, and improve patients' experience. However, the integration, translation, and adoption of these technologies into clinical practice are plagued with many challenges and are lagging. Furthermore, explanations of the impediments to clinical translation are largely unknown and have not been systematically studied from the perspective of AI and digital health care startup founders and executives. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to describe the barriers to integrating early-stage technologies in clinical practice and health care systems from the perspectives of digital health and health care AI founders and executives. METHODS: A stakeholder focus group workshop was conducted with a sample of 10 early-stage digital health and health care AI founders and executives. Digital health, health care AI, digital health-focused venture capitalists, and physician executives were represented. Using an inductive thematic analysis approach, transcripts were organized, queried, and analyzed for thematic convergence. RESULTS: We identified the following four categories of barriers in the integration of early-stage digital health innovations into clinical practice and health care systems: (1) lack of knowledge of health system technology procurement protocols and best practices, (2) demanding regulatory and validation requirements, (3) challenges within the health system technology procurement process, and (4) disadvantages of early-stage digital health companies compared to large technology conglomerates. Recommendations from the study participants were also synthesized to create a road map to mitigate the barriers to integrating early-stage or novel digital health technologies in clinical practice. CONCLUSIONS: Early-stage digital health and health care AI entrepreneurs identified numerous barriers to integrating digital health solutions into clinical practice. Mitigation initiatives should create opportunities for early-stage digital health technology companies and health care providers to interact, develop relationships, and use evidence-based research and best practices during health care technology procurement and evaluation processes.

RESUMEN

This study investigates challenges facing entrepreneurs in Jordan, identifies some of problems specific to SMEs, and offers some solutions to help these companies improve their conditions. This study collected primary data through interviews with entrepreneurs in four start-up companies specialized in diverse fields, including information technology, consulting, training, and e-marketing. This study found many obstacles facing entrepreneurs in Jordan, the most important of which are financial and logistical support, the challenge of distributing work, owning operating experiences, obtaining information, commercial relations, and networking. The results of this study showed that women face greater challenges in relation to financing and investment opportunities. Finally, this study proposes some solutions which expected to be applied to improve the business environment, the most important of which is that the Jordanian Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship should activate pilot projects and stimulate investment in them, facilitating the development and deployment of technical knowledge in private sector development.

RESUMEN

Belgian authorities, like most authorities in European countries, resorted to unprecedented measures in response to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic between March 2020 and May 2022. This exceptional context highlighted the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) in an unprecedented way. At a time when many other issues are being put on hold, IPV is being brought to the fore. This article investigated the processes that have led to increasing political attention to domestic violence in Belgium. To this end, a media analysis and a series of semi-structured interviews were conducted. The materials, collected and analyzed by mobilizing the framework of Kingdon's streams theory, allowed us to present the agenda-setting process in its complexity and the COVID-19 as a policy window. The main policy entrepreneurs were NGOs and French-speaking feminist women politicians. Together, they rapidly mobilized sufficient resources to implement public intervention that had already been proposed in the preceding years, but which had been waiting for funding. By doing so, they responded during the peak of the pandemic to requests and needs that had already been expressed in a "non-crisis" context.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Limited physical activity is one of the main reasons for the rapid increase in the prevalence of diseases of affluence, which can lead to premature deaths in adults. Quality of life may be one of potential determinants of physical activity. The aim of this article is to identify the relationships between physical activity and quality of life in entrepreneurs from Wroclaw, Poland. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a group of 616 entrepreneurs (216 women and 400 men). A diagnostic survey method was used with a direct interview technique. The research tools included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire. RESULTS: Among the studied entrepreneurs, along with their higher ratings of overall quality of life, the odds of high rather than low levels of physical activity increased nearly fivefold (OR 4.86, CI 3.34-7.07). Entrepreneurs with higher assessment levels of their perceived health condition were nearly twice as likely to report high rather than low physical activity levels (OR 1.92, CI 1.42-2.59). The conditional probability of high rather than low levels of physical activity also increased in the entrepreneurs with higher assessments of quality of life in the physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains, by 34%, 11%, 5%, and 6%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Programs promoting physical activity among entrepreneurs, which focus on moderate and high intensity exercise, should be considered desirable in the context of the study findings. Activities aimed at improving quality of life in the physical and psychological domains as a potential determinant of the level of physical activity of entrepreneurs are also worth recommending.

RESUMEN

This article discusses the mechanism of the ambidextrous behavior of entrepreneurs in exploring and exploiting simultaneously in new ventures. We draw on social cognition theory to discuss the influence of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) on entrepreneurs' ambidextrous behavior and the moderating effect of their status. We contend that an inverted 'U' relationship exists between ESE and entrepreneurs' ambidextrous behavior. A higher economic status of an entrepreneur strengthens the relationship between ESE and that entrepreneur's ambidextrous behavior, whereas higher power status weakens the relationship. Analyses of high-tech industry entrepreneurs support our hypotheses in the context of emerging economies, represented by China.

RESUMEN

"Innovation" - whether in the form of digital technologies or business models - dominates imaginaries of global health futures and is often promoted as a "solution" through which the goal of universal health coverage can be achieved. Seemingly disrupting the status quo, it offers the promise of novel and simple answers to longstanding and complex social problems. In this article, I analyze a public-private partnership between the Indian state of West Bengal and an Indian-owned social enterprise. One of its defining features is an "innovative" financing mechanism based on loans and entrepreneurship. The project employs young people from marginalized communities as health entrepreneurs, who market digital healthcare in rural areas in order to provide access to affordable and high-quality biomedical care. Although the model promises sustainable modes of financing healthcare, it shifts financial risk to low-income groups. As health workers resisted attempts to be turned into self-reliant entrepreneurs and continued to make demands on the developmental state, frictions emerged during project implementation. The question of how healthcare should be made accessible and affordable, in what manner the state should be involved in financing it, and what role innovation should play in this regard was all contested. Although an entrepreneurial business model to deliver primary care is seen as an innovative solution at a time when government expenditure in the social sector remains low and levels of un- and underemployment are high, this paper complicates prevailing claims about its disruptive powers in India and argues that its effective role for equitable social change has to be critically examined.

RESUMEN

There is a wide gender gap in developing countries due to a range of cultural, economic and political barriers. This is even more accentuated in post conflict economies in times of crisis. Smartphones and mobile applications can help to narrow this gap. The economic and non-economic challenges facing women entrepreneurs and the role of smartphone innovation in overcoming these challenges and developing strong marketing strategies were investigated. We drew on the 5 M model to investigate how mobile applications can support women entrepreneurs. We conducted thirty interviews with women entrepreneurs in Iraq. The findings show that mobile applications provided these entrepreneurs with innovative ways to overcome many of the challenges they face in relation to running a business. The research provides theoretical contributions by developing an integrated, multilevel analytical model on women in entrepreneurship based on extending the 5 M model with new technology-related elements. Practical, policy and managerial implications are discussed.
