BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study investigated the effects of deep abdominal breathing on cardiovascular parameters and symptoms in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) during head-up tilt-table (HUT) challenge. METHODS: Thirty POTS patients completed two consecutive rounds of 10-min HUT in a crossover design. One round was HUT without intervention, and one round combined the HUT with deep breathing at a rate of 6 breaths/min. Cardiovascular parameters, including mean blood pressure and maximum and mean heart rate (HR), were measured supine and standing. Symptoms were assessed using the Vanderbilt Orthostatic Symptom Score (VOSS). RESULTS: During the breathing technique, the mean HR increase was -7.35 bpm (95% confidence interval [CI] = -11.71 to -2.98), and the maximum HR increase was -6.27 bpm (95% CI = -11.85 to -0.68, p = 0.041), significantly lower compared to normal breathing. Additionally, improvements were observed in all absolute cardiovascular parameters during standing, with VOSS symptoms simultaneously and significantly decreasing by -5.38 (95% CI = -10.43 to -0.36). CONCLUSIONS: Slow deep abdominal breathing can act as a simple technique to reduce the standing HR increase upon HUT in patients with POTS. This suggests that modulation of the cardiopulmonary neurocircuits and the respiratory pump may reduce HR increase and symptoms in patients with POTS. The findings of this study highlight the use of a safe, zero-cost, and simple behavioral tool to suggest to POTS patients for symptom relief apart from standard treatment. The observed improvements in cardiovascular parameters and symptoms offer a promising therapeutic approach for patients in times of inadequate treatment options.

After the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic we face a new global epidemic: the Post-COVID Syndrome. This novel condition has fluctuating progression and a wide range of symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches, muscle pain or breathlessness. Although its pathophysiology is not clear, a multiorganic affection is suspected, altering the immune, cardiorespitatory and nervous systems. Whereas there is no consensus over its treatment, most of the researches conclude the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise and a multicomponent rehabilitation, coordinating and cooperating between different health professionals. A functional, respiratory and strength evaluation prior to treatment prescription is highly recommended, since it will help professionals to precisely prescribe and objectively measure the evolution of our patients. In this article we suggest a few tests, adequate to primary health requirements, to evaluate our patients' initial condition, as well as the most secure way to initiate a therapeutic exercise programme, together with other healthcare providers.

BACKGROUND: The therapeutic effectiveness of the empirical and unselected use of oral rehydration salts (ORS) on postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is not satisfactory in children. Therefore, looking for suitable predictors of the therapeutic effects of ORS before treatment is extremely necessary to implement individualised treatment for paediatric patients with POTS. METHODS: A retrospective case-control analysis of 130 patients (aged 5-18 years) who suffered from POTS with a 3-month treatment of ORS was conducted. A nomogram model was developed in the training set (n = 87) to predict the therapeutic response to ORS. Univariate analysis and logistic regression were applied to select the most useful predictors. ROC curves were applied to evaluate the discriminative performance of the nomogram model. The nomogram was then evaluated by calibration curves and the Hosmer-Lemeshow (H-L) test. The results were further validated using 1000 bootstrap resamples. External validation was performed in an independent validation set (n = 43). FINDINGS: Among the ten variables with significant differences between the responders and non-responders in univariate analysis, five variables were found to be independently associated factors for ORS therapeutic efficacy among POTS children in the further logistic regression, including mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean arterial pressure (MAP) at the first minute of the upright position, urine specific gravity (SG), and P-wave voltage peaking ratio (PWP). The nomogram model was established in the training set (AUC 0.926 [95% CI: 0.865-0.988], yielding a sensitivity of 87.8% and a specificity of 86.8%). The calibration curves showed good agreement between the prediction of the nomogram and actual observation in both the training and validation sets. The nomogram also effectively predicted the external validation set (sensitivity 82.1%, specificity 73.3%, and accuracy 79.1%). INTERPRETATION: We established a feasible and high-precision nomogram model to predict the efficacy of ORS, which would help implement individualised treatment for children with POTS. BACKGROUND: Low-level transcutaneous stimulation of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve at the tragus is antiarrhythmic and anti-inflammatory in animals and humans. Preliminary studies show that transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) is beneficial in animal models of postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS). OBJECTIVES: In this study the authors conducted a sham-controlled, double-blind, randomized clinical trial to examine the effect of tVNS on POTS over a 2-month period relative to sham stimulation. METHODS: tVNS (20 Hz, 1 mA below discomfort threshold) was delivered using an ear clip attached to either the tragus (active; n = 12) or the ear lobe (sham; n = 14) for 1 hour daily over a 2-month period. Postural tachycardia was assessed during the baseline and 2-month visit. Heart rate variability based on 5-minute electrocardiogram, serum cytokines, and antiautonomic autoantibodies were measured at the respective time points. RESULTS: Mean age was 34 ± 11 years (100% female; 81% Caucasian). Adherence to daily stimulation was 83% in the active arm and 86% in the sham arm (P > 0.05). Postural tachycardia was significantly less in the active arm compared with the sham arm at 2 months (mean postural increase in heart rate 17.6 ± 9.9 beats/min vs 31.7 ± 14.4 beats/min; P = 0.01). Antiadrenergic autoantibodies and inflammatory cytokines were lower in the active arm compared with the sham arm at 2 months (P < 0.05). Heart rate variability was better in the active arm. No device-related side effects were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our results support the emerging paradigm of noninvasive neuromodulation to treat POTS. Mechanistically, this effect appears to be related to reduction of antiautonomic autoantibodies and inflammatory cytokines, and improvement in autonomic tone. Further studies are warranted. OBJECTIVES: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a debilitating and under-recognized condition of the autonomic nervous system. This study applied Leventhal's Common-Sense Model of Illness Representations to explore the journey to a diagnosis of POTS and to understand its relevance to poorly understood conditions which have common comorbidities. DESIGN: An inductive qualitative approach was used to explore the processes by which patients formulate explanations and management of symptoms within the search for a diagnostic label and to investigate illness identity in the context of existing diagnoses or multimorbidity. METHODS: Participants (n = 29) for this nested qualitative study were recruited from a larger longitudinal study of people who had been newly referred to a specialist POTS service. Semi-structured interviews were conducted via video call. Three researchers coded and analysed data using Reflexive Thematic Analysis and elements of Grounded Theory. RESULTS: The analysis resulted in three overarching themes: 'Seeking physiological coherence and validation', 'Individual persistence', and 'Navigating the cumulative burden'. 'Accessibility and disparities of health care' was noted as a contextual factor. Receiving a POTS diagnosis was regarded by participants as providing legitimacy and increased access to treatment. Overall, delays in the diagnostic journey and the lack of a clear diagnosis impacted negatively on patients through increased uncertainty and a lack of clear guidance on how to manage symptoms. Findings also suggested there were great complexities in assigning symptoms to labels in the context of multimorbidity. CONCLUSIONS: Participants' stories highlighted the urgent need for better recognition of POTS so that the self-regulatory process can be initiated from the early stages of symptom detection.

Tilt table testing (TTT) has been used for decades to study short-term blood pressure (BP) and heart rate regulation during orthostatic challenges. TTT provokes vasovagal reflex in many syncope patients as a background of widespread use. Despite the availability of evidence-based practice syncope guidelines, proper application and interpretation of TTT in the day-to-day care of syncope patients remain challenging. In this review, we offer practical information on what is needed to perform TTT, how results should be interpreted including the Vasovagal Syncope International Study classification, why syncope induction on TTT is necessary in patients with unexplained syncope and on indications for TTT in syncope patient care. The minimum requirements to perform TTT are a tilt table with an appropriate tilt-down time, a continuous beat-to-beat BP monitor with at least three electrocardiogram leads and trained staff. We emphasize that TTT remains a valuable asset that adds to history building but cannot replace it, and highlight the importance of recognition when TTT is abnormal even without syncope. Acknowledgement by the patient/eyewitness of the reproducibility of the induced attack is mandatory in concluding a diagnosis. TTT may be indicated when the initial syncope evaluation does not yield a certain, highly likely, or possible diagnosis, but raises clinical suspicion of (1) reflex syncope, (2) orthostatic hypotension (OH), (3) postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome or (4) psychogenic pseudosyncope. A therapeutic indication for TTT in the patient with a certain, highly likely or possible diagnosis of reflex syncope, may be to educate patients on prodromes. In patients with reflex syncope with OH TTT can be therapeutic to recognize hypotensive symptoms causing near-syncope to perform physical countermanoeuvres for syncope prevention (biofeedback). Detection of hypotensive susceptibility requiring therapy is of special value.

Introduction: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a complex, chronic, multi-system disorder that is characterized by a substantial impairment in the activities that were well tolerated before the illness. In an earlier report, we had described three adult women who met criteria for ME/CFS and orthostatic intolerance, and had congenital or acquired cervical spinal stenosis. All three experienced substantial global improvements in their ME/CFS and orthostatic intolerance symptoms after recognition and surgical treatment of the cervical stenosis. After a several year period of improvement, one of the individuals in that series experienced a return of ME/CFS and orthostatic intolerance symptoms. Main symptoms and clinical findings: Radiologic investigation confirmed a recurrence of the ventral compression of the spinal cord due to a shift of the disc replacement implant at the involved cervical spinal level. Therapeutic intervention: Decompression of the spinal cord with removal of the implant and fusion at the original C5-C6 level was once again followed by a similar degree of improvement in function as had been observed after the first operation. Conclusion: This recapitulation of the outcomes after surgical management of cervical stenosis provides further evidence in support of the hypothesis that cervical spinal stenosis can exacerbate pre-existing or cause new orthostatic intolerance and ME/CFS. Especially for those with refractory symptoms and neurological signs, surgical interventions may offer relief for selected patients with this complex condition.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a challenge for our society due to the post-acute sequelae of the disease. Persistent symptoms and long-term multiorgan complications, known as post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, can occur beyond 4 weeks from the onset of the COVID-19 infection. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is considered a variety of dysautonomia, which is characterized by chronic symptoms that occur with standing and a sustained increase in heart rate, without orthostatic hypotension. POTS can lead to debilitating symptoms, significant disability, and impaired quality of life. In this narrative review, the etiopathogenic basis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and socioeconomic impact of POTS, as well as other related dysautonomic disorders, after COVID-19 infection and SARS-CoV-2 postvaccination, were discussed. After a search conducted in March 2023, a total of 89 relevant articles were selected from the PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases. The review highlights the importance of recognizing and managing POTS after COVID-19 infection and vaccination, and the approach to autonomic disorders should be known by all specialists in different medical areas. The diagnosis of POTS requires a comprehensive clinical assessment, including a detailed medical history, physical examination, orthostatic vital signs, and autonomic function tests. The treatment of POTS after COVID-19 infection or vaccination is mainly focused on lifestyle modifications, such as increased fluid and salt intake, exercise, and graduated compression stockings. Pharmacotherapy, such as beta-blockers, fludrocortisone, midodrine, and ivabradine, may also be used in selected cases. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms, risk factors, and optimal treatment strategies for this complication.

Background: Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is characterized by orthostatic intolerance and heart rate increase in an upright position without orthostatic hypotension. It has been described after coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) as well as after COVID-19 vaccination. Case summary: A 54-year-old female patient presented with a 9-months history of severe orthostatic intolerance since COVID-19 vaccination with messenger RNA (mRNA)-1273 (Spikevax, Moderna). Except for diet-controlled coeliac disease, the patient was healthy, had no allergies, and did not take regular medication. Tilt table testing revealed a significant heart rate increase to 168 bpm without orthostatic hypotension accompanied by light-headedness, nausea, and syncope, findings consistent with POTS. Potential underlying causes including anaemia, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal insufficiency, pheochromocytoma, (auto)-immune disease, chronic inflammation as well as neurological causes were ruled out. Echocardiography and cardiac stress magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) did not detect structural or functional heart disease or myocardial ischaemia. Forty-eight-hour-electrocardiogram (ECG) showed no tachycardias other than sinus tachycardia. Finally, genomic analysis did not detect an inherited arrhythmia syndrome. Serologic analysis revealed adequate immune response to mRNA-1273 vaccination without signs of previous severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 infection. While ivabradine was not tolerated and metoprolol extended release only slightly improved symptoms, physical exercise reduced orthostatic intolerance moderately. At a 5-months follow-up, the patient remained dependant on assistance for activities of daily living. Discussion: The temporal association of POTS with the COVID-19 vaccination in a previously healthy patient and the lack of evidence of an alternative aetiology suggests COVID-19 vaccination is the potential cause of POTS in this patient. To our knowledge, this is the first case reporting severe, long-term, and treatment-refractory POTS following COVID-19 vaccination with mRNA1273.

BACKGROUND: There is a dearth of research to support the treatment of people with postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS). Despite expert consensus suggesting exercise is recommended for this patient group, there are no randomised control trials examining this rigorously. The aim was to co-create a feasibility trial protocol and a rehabilitation intervention for people living with PoTS. METHODS: The intervention and feasibility trial design were co-created as part of the PostUraL tachycardia Syndrome Exercise (PULSE) study. We used the 'three co's framework' of co-define, co-design and co-refine. Recruitment included key national charities and National Health Service Trusts treating people living with PoTS in the UK. Eighteen patient and public involvement members attended the co-define session, and 16 co-creators with a mix of expertise attended the subsequent co-design and co-refine sessions. Seven intervention practitioners were trained in the rehabilitation intervention, providing feedback for further co-refinement. RESULTS: The final co-created intervention comprises online physical activity, and lifestyle and behaviour change support sessions. It is based on functional movement activities using a patient-centred approach tailored to individual needs. Physical activity intensity is guided by individuals' perception of effort rather than by objective measures. Recumbent bikes are provided for home use. Patients deemed randomisation to be acceptable because research in this area was considered important. CONCLUSIONS: An innovative approach was used to co-create the PULSE intervention and feasibility trial protocol to meet the evidence-based and logistical needs of people living with PoTS, clinicians, service deliverers, third-sector organisations, academics and funders. This can be used as a successful example and template for future research internationally. People living with PoTS were recognised as experts and involved in every aspect of conceptualisation, design and refinement. This complex rehabilitation intervention is currently being tested in a randomised feasibility trial comparing the PULSE intervention with best-practice usual care for people living with PoTS. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate beat-to-beat blood pressure variability (BPV) during head-up tilt test (HUTT) in patients with mild and moderate myasthenia gravis (MG) compared to healthy controls (HCs), and its association with the severity of autonomic symptoms. METHODS: A total of 50 MG patients and 30 HCs were evaluated. Patients were stratified into 2 groups regarding Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) classification: mild (I,II MGFA), moderate form (III MGFA). Autonomic symptoms were assessed by COMPASS-31 questionnaire. Cardiovascular parameters, indices of very short-term systolic (SBPV), and diastolic blood pressure (BP) variability (DBPV) were assessed at rest, and during HUTT. RESULTS: Moderate MG patients were characterized by an overall shift of sympathovagal balance toward sympathetic predominance, either at rest and during HUTT, as well as lower values of high frequency (HFnu) of DBPV during HUTT, compared to HCs and mild MG. Similarly, moderate MG showed higher resting low frequency (LFnu) of DBPV (p=0.035), higher COMPASS-31 score (p=0.031), and orthostatic intolerance sub-score (p=0.019) than mild MG patients. Compared to HCs, mild MG patients showed lower Δmean BP (p=0.029), Δdiastolic BP (p=0.016). Autonomic symptoms were associated with lower BP values, at rest and during HUTT, and lower LF BPV parameters during HUTT. CONCLUSION: MG patients present significant alterations in BPV, both at rest and in response to orthostatic stress, which are related to autonomic symptoms and disease severity. This study confirms the importance of monitoring BPV when evaluating cardiovascular autonomic function and its evolution over the course of MG disease.

This case describes the clinical decision-making behind the conservative clinical management of an individual presenting with chronic neck pain with myriad neuromuscular comorbidities. The focus of this case report is to support the safe utilization of manual therapy and describe the tolerable prescription of strength and endurance exercise in a patient with numerous complications to improve self-efficacy. A 22-year-old female college student presented with a chief complaint of chronic, non-specific neck pain with comorbid Chiari malformation, migraines, upper cervical spinal fusion, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) to an outpatient physical therapy clinic for evaluation and treatment. Following four sessions of physical therapy treatment, no clinically significant improvement in the individual's symptoms and daily function was achieved. Despite the lack of measurable change, the patient reported the program's value on her ability to self-manage her complex condition. The patient responded well to manual therapy, specifically thrust manipulations. In addition, both endurance and strengthening exercises were well tolerated and provided a measure of self-management that may not have been achieved before physical therapy management. This case report highlights the need for exercise and pain-modulating interventions in highly complex individuals to reduce medical intervention by advancing the patient's self-efficacy. There is a need for further research about the utility of standardized outcome measures, joint manipulations, and the addition of cervico-ocular exercises for those who present with neck pain and pertinent neuromuscular comorbidities.

Fifty percent of patients with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) are hypocapnic during orthostasis related to initial orthostatic hypotension (iOH). We determined whether iOH drives hypocapnia in POTS by low BP or decreased cerebral blood velocity (CBv). We studied three groups; healthy volunteers (n = 32, 18 ± 3 yr) were compared with POTS, grouped by presence [POTS-low end-tidal CO2 (↓ETCO2), n = 26, 19 ± 2 yr] or absence [POTS-normal upright end-tidal carbon dioxide (nlCO2), n = 28, 19 ± 3 yr] of standing hypocapnia defined by end-tidal CO2 (ETCO2) ≤ 30 mmHg at steady-state, measuring middle cerebral artery CBv, heart rate (HR), and beat-to-beat blood pressure (BP). After 30 min supine, subjects stood for 5 min. Quantities were measured prestanding, at minimum CBv, minimum BP, peak HR, CBv recovery, BP recovery, minimum HR, steady-state, and 5 min. Baroreflex gain was estimated by α index. iOH occurred with similar frequency and minimum BP in POTS-↓ETCO2 and POTS-nlCO2. Minimum CBv was reduced significantly (P < 0.05) in POTS-↓ETCO2 (48 ± 3 cm/s) preceding hypocapnia compared with POTS-nlCO2 (61 ± 3 cm/s) or Control (60 ± 2 cm/s). The anticipatory increased BP was significantly larger (P < 0.05) in POTS (8 ± 1 mmHg vs. 2 ± 1) and began ∼8 s prestanding. HR increased in all subjects, CBv increased significantly (P < 0.05) in both POTS-nlCO2 (76 ± 2 to 85 ± 2 cm/s) and Control (75 ± 2 to 80 ± 2 cm/s) consistent with central command. CBv decreased in POTS-↓ETCO2 (76 ± 3 to 64 ± 3 cm/s) correlating with decreased baroreflex gain. Cerebral conductance [meanCBv/mean arterial blood pressure (MAP)] was reduced in POTS-↓ETCO2 throughout. Data support the hypothesis that excessively reduced CBv during iOH may intermittently reduce carotid body blood flow, sensitizing that organ and producing postural hyperventilation in POTS-↓ETCO2. Excessive fall in CBv occurs in part during prestanding central command and is a facet of defective parasympathetic regulation in POTS.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Dyspnea is frequent in postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and is associated with upright hyperpnea and hypocapnia that drives sinus tachycardia. It is initiated by an exaggerated reduction in cerebral conductance and decreased cerebral blood flow (CBF) that precedes the act of standing. This is a form of autonomically mediated "central command." Cerebral blood flow is further reduced by initial orthostatic hypotension common in POTS. Hypocapnia is maintained during the standing response and might account for persistent postural tachycardia.

BACKGROUND: Describe the outcomes and safety of robotic-assisted kidney auto-transplantation (RAKAT) in the treatment of nutcracker syndrome (NCS) and loin pain haematuria syndrome (LPHS). METHODS: This retrospective study included 32 cases of NCS and LPHS seen during December 2016 to June 2021. RESULTS: Three (9%) patients had LPHS and 29 (91%) NCS. All were non-Hispanic whites, and 31 (97%) women. The mean age was 32 years (SD = 10) and the BMI 22.8 (SD = 5). The RAKAT was completed in all patients, 63% had a total improvement of pain. According to the Clavien-Dindo classification, 47% presented with type 1, and 9% with type 3 complications with a mean follow-up of 10.9 months. The incidence of acute kidney injury in post-procedure was 28%. No one required blood transfusions, and there were no deaths during the follow-up. CONCLUSION: RAKAT was a feasible procedure with a similar complication rate to those reported for other surgical techniques.

BACKGROUND: The present work was designed to explore whether electrocardiogram (ECG) index-based models could predict the effectiveness of metoprolol therapy in pediatric patients with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS). METHODS: This study consisted of a training set and an external validation set. Children and adolescents with POTS who were given metoprolol treatment were enrolled, and after follow-up, they were grouped into non-responders and responders depending on the efficacy of metoprolol. The difference in pre-treatment baseline ECG indicators was analyzed between the two groups in the training set. Binary logistic regression analysis was further conducted on the association between significantly different baseline variables and therapeutic efficacy. Nomogram models were established to predict therapeutic response to metoprolol. The receiver-operating characteristic curve (ROC), calibration, and internal validation were used to evaluate the prediction model. The predictive ability of the model was validated in the external validation set. RESULTS: Of the 95 enrolled patients, 65 responded to metoprolol treatment, and 30 failed to respond. In the responders, the maximum value of the P wave after correction (Pcmax), P wave dispersion (Pd), Pd after correction (Pcd), QT interval dispersion (QTd), QTd after correction (QTcd), maximum T-peak-to-T-end interval (Tpemax), and T-peak-to-T-end interval dispersion (Tped) were prolonged (all P < 0.01), and the P wave amplitude was increased (P < 0.05) compared with those of the non-responders. In contrast, the minimum value of the P wave duration after correction (Pcmin), the minimum value of the QT interval after correction (QTcmin), and the minimum T-peak-to-T-end interval (Tpemin) in the responders were shorter (P < 0.01, < 0.01 and < 0.01, respectively) than those in the non-responders. The above indicators were screened based on the clinical significance and multicollinearity analysis to construct a binary logistic regression. As a result, pre-treatment Pcmax, QTcmin, and Tped were identified as significantly associated factors that could be combined to provide an accurate prediction of the therapeutic response to metoprolol among the study subjects, yielding good discrimination [area under curve (AUC) = 0.970, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.942-0.998] with a predictive sensitivity of 93.8%, specificity of 90.0%, good calibration, and corrected C-index of 0.961. In addition, the calibration curve and standard curve had a good fit. The accuracy of internal validation with bootstrap repeated sampling was 0.902. In contrast, the kappa value was 0.769, indicating satisfactory agreement between the predictive model and the results from the actual observations. In the external validation set, the AUC for the prediction model was 0.895, and the sensitivity and specificity were 90.9% and 95.0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: A high-precision predictive model was successfully developed and externally validated. It had an excellent predictive value of the therapeutic effect of metoprolol on POTS among children and adolescents.

The novel SARS-CoV-2 emerged in 2019, and the global COVID-19 pandemic continues into 2022. It has been known that a subset of patients develops chronic, debilitating symptoms after otherwise complete recovery from acute infection of COVID-19. Multiple terms have been used to describe this constellation of symptoms, including long COVID, long-haul COVID, and postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 syndrome (PASC). PASC is broadly defined as a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing symptoms at least four weeks after infection. Those patients are often seen in emergency departments after acute COVID-19 infection, but their symptoms are not adequately managed because the underlying pathophysiology of PASC is not well understood. Among patients with PASC, postural orthostatic tachycardic syndrome (POTS) has been increasingly recognized. POTS is one of the most common forms of autonomic dysfunction and defined by a sustained orthostatic tachycardia during active standing or head-up tilt test in the absence of orthostatic hypotension or other cardiopulmonary diseases. Because POTS is a treatable condition, it is important to recognize POTS among PASC patients. Herein, we reviewed the current literature on POTS and dysautonomia in PASC in order to better understand the overlap and distinction between these pathologies.

RESUMEN

The use of dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses is examined in a young woman with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) referred for physiotherapy with hip dysplasia, prior to a right periacetabular osteotomy. Dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses plus rigorous subjective examination, therapists' listening skills, and patient-centered goals were useful for this hEDS patient.
