RESUMEN

Nowadays, media-influenced patients have the desire to "extremely rapidly" alter their teeth to "ideal" and "too bright" ones. Although some esthetically demanding cases need to be thoroughly planned and treated through prolonged phases, other cases can be handled quickly. In such cases, we can witness the impact of many computer software programs for digital smile design that have penetrated clinical practice. This clinical report describes a conventional and digital step-by-step treatment workflow for restoring anterior maxillary teeth with porcelain laminate veneers. Two digital smile design software (GPS and Nemo DSD 3D) were utilized and compared with the conventional workflow. Feldspathic veneers were chosen for their superior optical properties. Case complexity and operator's experience played a significant role in the selection between the conventional and digital workflow. The advanced digital programs, while having many advantages, are not necessarily superior to the traditional technique. The digital smile design programs used in this case demonstrated an effective and predictable workflow. They can achieve comprehensive digital smile design with a satisfactory esthetic outcome, yet the conventional workflow gave conservative and esthetically pleasing results.

RESUMEN

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on the flexural strength of feldspathic porcelain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty bar-shaped ceramic specimens were prepared in five groups, including a control group and four case groups containing 5, 10, 15, and 20% w/w of AgNPs. Each group consisted of 16 specimens. Silver Nanoparticles were synthesized by a simple deposition method. Three-point bending test was used in the universal testing machine (UTM) machine to evaluate the flexural strength of the specimens. The fractured surface of the ceramic samples was analyzed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to analyze the data obtained, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey tests were used (p <0.05). RESULTS: The results implied that the average flexural strength of the samples in the control group was 90.97 MPa and for the experimental groups reinforced with 5, 10, 15, and 20% w/w of AgNPs were 89, 81, 76, and 74 MPa, respectively. CONCLUSION: The addition of AgNPs with a certain amount (up to a concentration of 15% w/w) without reducing the flexural strength improves the antimicrobial properties of the materials used and ultimately improves its quality for dental applications. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The addition of AgNPs can improve the antimicrobial properties and suitability of the materials.

RESUMEN

It is a major concern to select a proper ceramic with acceptable strength and esthetic and minimum antagonist wear. Therefore, different ceramics were introduced to obtain these advantages with various surface treatments. The aim of this study is to evaluate and report the wear behavior of polished and glazed feldspathic and zirconia crowns in published articles up to 2020. Five electronic databases which were used in this research were MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus from the starting date of databases to January 2020. The Keywords "zirconia," "feldspathic," "dental ceramic," "enamel," "Y-TZP," "wear," "glazed," and "polished" were used. English articles were selected in this paper. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement was used as a reporting template as much as possible. Among the initially 133 articles, 59 duplicated articles were removed, and finally, 52 articles were screened and among them, only 16 articles remained for full-text regaining. The results showed that zirconia had significantly less antagonist wear than feldspathic groups, and polishing had less enamel wear than other types of surface treatment like glazing. Only one study showed that glazed zirconia can have more antagonist wear than feldspathic porcelain. Monolithic zirconia had less enamel wear than conventional zirconia and low-fusing feldspathic porcelain showed lower antagonist wear in comparing with other types of feldspathic porcelains.

RESUMEN

Zirconia repair could be a feasible alternative option to total replacement in fractured zirconia-based restorations. Maximising the bond strength by enriching zirconia with fluorapatite glass-ceramics (FGC) powder has been addressed and compared to other surface treatments. Besides resin composite, other repair materials have been proposed and compared. Zirconia blocks received different surface treatments (A-sandblasting with tribochemical silica-coated alumina (CoJet). B-sandblasting with FGC powder (FGC), C-fluorapatite glass-ceramic coat+ neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser irradiation (FGC + Nd: YAG), and D-no surface treatment). The surface roughness, topography, and crystallinity were investigated by a profilometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, respectively. For each surface treatment, three repair materials (feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate, and resin composite) were bonded to zirconia with 10, Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP)-Monobond Plus/ Multilink Automix. Bonded specimens were thermocycled for 10,000 cycles and tested for shear bond strength (SBS) at a speed of 1 mm/min, followed by the analysis of the mode of failure. FGC + Nd: YAG laser group reported the highest surface roughness and monoclinic content compared to CoJet, FGC, and control groups. The highest mean SBS was found in FGC-blasted zirconia, followed by FGC + Nd: YAG laser and CoJet treated groups. However, the lowest SBS was found in control groups regardless of the repair material. Sandblasting zirconia with FGC powder increased SBS of resin to zirconia with lower monoclinic phase transformation compared to FGC + Nd: YAG or CoJet groups.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To test the impact of exposure to artificial gastric acid combined with toothbrush abrasion on the properties of dental ceramics. Earlier research has indicated that immersion in artificial gastric acid has caused increased surface roughness of dental ceramics; however, the combined effects of acid immersion and toothbrush abrasion and the impact of increased surface roughness on mechanical strength and optical properties have not been studied. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three commercially available ceramics were chosen for this study: feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate glass-ceramic, and monolithic zirconium oxide. The specimens (10 × 1 mm discs) were cut, thermally treated as required, and polished. Each material was divided into four groups (n = 8 per group): control (no exposure), acid only, brush only, acid + brush. The specimens were immersed in artificial gastric acid (50 ml of 0.2% [w/v] sodium chloride in 0.7% [v/v] hydrochloric acid mixed with 0.16 g of pepsin powder, pH = 2) for 2 minutes and rinsed with deionized water for 2 minutes. The procedure was repeated 6 times/day × 9 days, and specimens were stored in deionized water at 37°C. Toothbrush abrasion was performed using an ISO/ADA design brushing machine for 100 cycles/day × 9 days. The acid + brush group received both treatments. Specimens were examined under SEM and an optical microscope for morphological changes. Color and translucency were measured using spectrophotometer CIELAB coordinates (L*, a*, b*). Surface gloss was measured using a gloss meter. Surface roughness was measured using a stylus profilometer. Biaxial flexural strength was measured using a mechanical testing machine. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's HSD post hoc test (p < 0.05). RESULTS: Statistically significant changes were found for color, gloss, and surface roughness for porcelain and e.max specimens. No statistically significant changes were found for any properties of zirconia specimens. CONCLUSIONS: The acid treatment affected the surface roughness, color, and gloss of porcelain and e.max ceramics. The changes in translucency and mechanical strength for all materials were not statistically significant. Zirconia ceramic showed resistance to all treatments.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to evaluate the wear properties of resin teeth with different opposing dental restorative materials. One type of resin tooth (Trubyte Biotone) was tested against six types of restorative materials including type III gold alloy (GO), monolithic zirconia (MZ), lithium disilicate glass ceramic (LD), nickel-chromium alloy (NC), feldspathic ceramic (FC), and steatite (ST). Two-body wear tests were performed under a vertical load of 5 kgf and thermo-cycling at 5/55 °C with a total of 120,000 cycles. The wear amount was quantified by measuring the volume loss of the resin teeth and the vertical substance loss of the opposing materials using three-dimensional images. The FC group showed a significantly greater amount of wear of the resin teeth, followed by the ST, NC, LD, MZ, and GO groups. The GO group showed significantly less wear of resin teeth than the other groups. There were no statistically significant differences in the wear of opposing restorative materials between groups. Within the limits of this study, it is recommended that zirconia, rather than feldspathic ceramic, should be used for restorations in the esthetic zone, and gold alloy should be used for areas with little or no esthetic demand.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The degree of tooth enamel wear is an important aspect of the clinical acceptability of all-ceramic restorations. The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of enamel wear by feldspathic porcelain and polymer-infiltrated ceramic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this in vitro study, 10 polymer-infiltrated ceramics were prepared by creating the sections of Vita Enamic® blocks (18 mm × 14 mm × 4 mm). A total of 10 porcelain cylinders were built, and feldspathic porcelain (VMK 95, Vita) was used and fired over the metal discs. A total of 20 human maxillary premolars were assigned as antagonist. Then, 10 teeth were arranged and placed oppose to porcelain samples and 10 others were placed oppose to polymer-infiltrated-ceramic specimens in the chewing simulator. The samples were photographed before and after the chewing simulation. The difference between the two photograph was measured by stereomicroscope and Motic Image plus software 2.0 three times, and then, the mean of these three times was recorded as the amount of wear. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and SPSS version 16. The level of significancy was 0.05. RESULTS: The mean wear rate teeth oppose to the feldspathic porcelain group (377.294 µ) was significantly higher than that of the polymer-infiltrated ceramic group (101.755 µ) (P = 0.002). CONCLUSION: In the present study, the amount of enamel wear of the natural teeth opposed to polymer-infiltrated ceramic was significantly lower than feldspathic porcelain.

The development of dental ceramics was only possible due to the introduction of new technological resources, that accompanied by the increasing demand for aesthetics generated new concepts about the use and applications of those materials. These circumstances resulted in the need of various types of ceramics and therefore production methods, which aims to deliver different results in terms of strength and translucency. In this context, it is crucial to understand each available ceramic's system characteristics and limitations, so as to properly select the right material for given clinical application. The objective of this work is to assist the dental surgeon in the choice of an allceramic material for restorations in full-coverage crowns, among three of them: feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate and dental zirconia. In this work was concluded that the ceramics are not identical and that feldspathic porcelains are often more used for aesthetic cases, especially in the stratified technique, the lithium disilicate combines aesthetics and strength and, finally, the dental zirconia presents itself as a promising material due to its superior mechanical properties.

RESUMEN

Introduction: This study investigated the effect of fractional CO2 laser on shear bond strength (SBS) of resin cement to feldspathic porcelain. Methods: Sixty blocks of unglazed feldspathic porcelain were randomly divided into 5 groups of 12 by treatment. Group 1 and 2 underwent etching with 9.6% hydrofluoric acid (HF) and air abrasion with alumina particles, respectively. In groups 3 and 4, a fractional CO2 laser was applied for 10 seconds using 20 W/10 mJ (group 3) or 15 W/20 mJ (group 4). The specimens in group 5 were first treated by fractional CO2 laser (15 W/20 mJ) and then etched by HF acid. After silane application, a resin cement (Clearfil SA) was poured into plastic molds over the porcelain surface and light cured. SBS was assessed by a universal testing machine and the type of bond failure was determined. Results: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated a significant difference in SBS among the study groups (P<0.001). Pairwise comparison demonstrated that the application of fractional CO2 laser followed by HF acid yielded SBS that was significantly greater than that of the other groups (P<0.05). The SBS of both laser groups (groups 3 and 4) were comparable to each other and significantly lower than the other groups (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in the distribution of failure modes among the groups (P=0.522) Conclusion: The application of fractional CO2 laser followed by HF acid treatment can improve SBS of resin cement to feldspathic porcelain and could be recommended when demanding extra retention.

RESUMEN

AIM: The purpose of the study was to evaluate and compare the flexural strength of nano-reinforced zirconia feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate ceramics, and zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten bar-shaped specimens of computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) zirconia, reinforced feldspathic porcelain, and reinforced lithium disilicate were fabricated in accordance to International Organization for Standardization (ISO 6872; n = 10). Feldspathic porcelain and lithium disilicate ceramic specimens were reinforced with 5, 10, 15, and 20% of zirconia nanoparticles through a customized technique. The specimens were subjected to three-point flexural strength test using universal testing machine (UTM) and examined for crack propagation using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test were used to analyze the data (p < 0.05). RESULTS: The flexural strength of feldsphatic porcelain increased with the increase in the concentration of zirconia particles. The mean flexural strength of 5, 10, 15, and 20% nano-zirconia-incorporated lithium disilicate was 93.8, 97.1, 100.6, and 100.8 MPa respectively, and was lower than the control group (221.7 MPa). A significant difference in the flexural strength was found with the incorporation of nano-zirconia particles. CONCLUSION: The flexural strength of zirconia-integrated feld-spathic porcelain increased and lithium disilicate ceramics decreased with the nano-zirconia reinforcement. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The simplified approach of reinforcing feldspathic porcelain with zirconia nanoparticles can be adapted in clinical situations of higher masticatory forces.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of six different surface conditioning methods on the shear bond strength of ceramic brackets bonded to feldspathic porcelain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 60 feldspathic porcelain disks were fabricated and divided into six subgroups including 10 specimens in each. Specimens were first treated one of the following surface conditioning methods, namely, 37% phosphoric acid (G-H3PO4), 9.4% hydrofluoric acid (G-HF), grinding with diamond burs (G-Grinding), Nd:YAG laser (G-Nd:YAG), Airborne-particle abrasion (G-Abrasion). Specimens were also coated with silane without surface treatment for comparison (G-Untreated). A total of 60 ceramic brackets were bonded to porcelain surfaces with a composite resin and then subjected to thermocycling 2500× between 5°C and 55°C. The shear bond strength test was carried out using a universal testing device at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Failure types were classified according to the adhesive remnant index. Analysis of variance and Tukey tests were used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05). Microstructure of untreated and surface-treated specimens was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: Using G-Abrasion specimens resulted in the highest shear bond strength value of 8.58 MPa for feldspathic porcelain. However, the other specimens showed lower values: G-Grinding (6.51 MPa), G-Nd:YAG laser (3.37 MPa), G-HF (2.71 MPa), G-H3PO4 (1.17 MPa), and G-Untreated (0.93 MPa). CONCLUSION: Airborne-particle abrasion and grinding can be used as surface treatment techniques on the porcelain surface for a durable bond strength. Hydrofluoric acid and phosphoric acid etching methods were not convenient as surface treatment methods for the feldspathic porcelain.

RESUMEN

Abstract This case report describes an esthetic treatment to improve the shape and alignment of the anterior teeth, reestablishing smile harmony, using feldspathic porcelain veneers. Results of clinical follow up after 36 months are also presented. The advantages, disadvantages and limitations of the technique are detailed with reference to the relevant literature. This suggests that the success of treatment depends on adequate conditions of bonding between the veneers and the tooth complex, which involves parameters such as the strength and durability of the bond interface. Therefore, the clinical success of feldspathic porcelain veneers depends on the accurate selection of cases and correct execution of clinical and laboratory procedures. The rehabilitation involved from first right premolar to the left with feldspathic porcelain veneers made on refractory dies. After the 3-year follow up, excellent clinical results and patient satisfaction were achieved.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of veneering feldspathic porcelain to zirconia substrates modified by CNC-milling process or by coating zirconia with a composite interlayer. METHODS: Four types of zirconia-porcelain interface configurations were tested: RZ - porcelain bonded to rough zirconia substrate (n=16); PZ - porcelain bonded to zirconia substrate with surface holes (n=16); RZI - application of a composite interlayer between the veneering porcelain and the rough zirconia substrate (n=16); PZI - application of a composite interlayer between the porcelain and the zirconia substrate treated by CNC-milling (n=16). The composite interlayer was composed of zirconia particles reinforced porcelain (30%, vol%). The mechanical properties of the ceramic composite have been determined. The shear bond strength test was performed at 0.5mm/min using a universal testing machine. The interfaces of fractured and untested specimens were examined by FEG-SEM/EDS. Data was analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk test to test the assumption of normality. The one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD multiple comparison test was used to compare shear bond strength results (α=0.05). RESULTS: The shear bond strength of PZ (100±15MPa) and RZI (96±11MPa) specimens were higher than that recorded for RZ (control group) specimens (89±15MPa), although not significantly (p>0.05). The highest shear bond strength values were recorded for PZI specimens (138±19MPa), yielding a significant improvement of 55% relative to RZ specimens (p<0.05). SIGNIFICANCE: This study shows that it is possible to highly enhance the zirconia-porcelain bond strength - even by ~55% - by combining surface holes in zirconia frameworks and the application of a proper ceramic composite interlayer.

RESUMEN

Polishing is taken up as an alternative to reglazing after adjustments of glazed ceramic prosthesis. An in vitro study was carried out to evaluate three different ceramic polishing systems and their combinations to identify a method that would achieve surface smoothness superior to the glazed surface. 77 glazed feldspathic porcelain disc surfaces, of diameter 12.5 mm and thickness 2 mm were constituted into seven groups of 11 specimen surfaces each. The glazed surfaces in the first group served as control (C). They were not subjected to deglazing or polishing. The remaining 66 surfaces underwent deglazing. The deglazed surfaces in the second group (D) were retained as such and did not undergo polishing. The deglazed surfaces in the third group (Wh), were polished using a polishing wheel (CeraMaster). In the fourth group (K), an adjustment kit (Porcelain Adjustment kit) was used for polishing the deglazed surfaces. The fifth group (Wx) was polished with diamond particle-impregnated wax (Dura-Polish Dia). In all these three groups, polishing was done for 40 s. The deglazed surfaces of the sixth group (WhWx) were polished initially with polishing wheel for 40 s and then with diamond particle-impregnated wax for 40 s. In the seventh group (KWx), the deglazed surfaces were polished with an adjustment kit (Porcelain Adjustment kit) for 40 s followed by diamond particle-impregnated wax (Dura-Polish Dia) for 40 s. In the sixth and seventh groups, the total polishing time was 80 s each. From each group, one specimen was set aside for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The remaining ten specimens in each group underwent colorimetry and profilometry. Colorimeter (Minolta CR-200b ChromaMeter; Minolta, Osaka, Japan) was used to measure parameters according to CIE L*a*b* colour system and colour difference (ΔE) between control and other groups were calculated. Profilometer (Talysurf CLI 2000) was used to measure the surface roughness (Ra). The data were statistically analysed by one way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. The colour differences were well within the acceptable range of 3.3 units in groups subjected to polishing. Polishing with porcelain adjustment kit alone, diamond particle-impregnated wax alone or polishing wheel followed by diamond wax created surfaces with smoothness comparable to the glazed surfaces. The group polished by adjustment kit followed by diamond particle-impregnated wax showed surface roughness significantly less than the glazed surfaces. The SEM observations were corroboratory. It can be concluded that polishing with porcelain adjustment kit followed by diamond particle-impregnated wax, created surfaces significantly smoother than the glazed specimens with no significant negative effect on colour and thus can be a technique superior to glazing.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The edge chipping test was used to measure the fracture resistance of CAD/CAM dental restoration ceramics and resin composites. METHODS: An edge chipping machine was used to evaluate six materials including one feldspathic porcelain, two glass ceramics, a filled resin-composite, a yttria-stabilized zirconia, and a new ceramic-resin composite material. Force versus edge distance data were collected over a broad range of forces and distances. Data were analyzed by several approaches and several chipping resistance parameters were evaluated. The effects of using different indenter types were explored. RESULTS: The force versus distance trends were usually nonlinear with good fits to a power law equation with exponents usually ranging from 1.2 to 1.9. The order of chipping resistance (from least to greatest) was: feldspathic porcelain and a leucite glass ceramic (which were similar), followed by the lithium disilicate glass ceramic and the two resin composites (which were similar), and finally the zirconia which had the greatest resistance to chipping. Chipping with a Vickers indenter required 28-45% more force than with the sharp conical 120° indenter. The two indenters rank materials approximately the same way. The power law exponents were very similar for the two indenters for a particular material, but the exponents varied with material. The Rockwell C indenter gives different power law trends and rankings. SIGNIFICANCE: Despite the variations in the trends and indenters, simple comparisons between materials can be made by chipping with sharp conical 120° or Vickers indenters at 0.50mm. Broad distance ranges are recommended for trend evaluation.

RESUMEN

The congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisor is the most common agenesis in the anterior region. There are several treatment options for this anomaly, which causes severe deficiencies: orthodontic space closure, tooth-supported restoration, or single-tooth implant. Each of these solutions has a high degree of success if used in the correct situation. An implant-supported restoration with an interdisciplinary approach provides a predictable outcome. This article describes the treatment of a patient with agenesis of the maxillary left lateral incisor. After orthodontic space management, it was decided to restore the tooth with an all-ceramic crown cemented on a zirconia custom abutment, which fractured after only 6 weeks of service. Fractographic analysis revealed that the failure was due to over-reduction of the buccal wall to correct the labial emergence of the implant. Zirconia abutments should be designed with even wall thicknesses of at least 0.8 mm to avoid areas that may compromise functional success.

Aim: Indirect restorative procedures are common in the current daily practice. Special care must be taken in the cement, as the vast majority of failures occurs at the interface tooth /restoration. Therefore a proper surface treatment of the restoration is essential to achieve optimum adhesion to the tooth surface. Materials and Methods: Thirty porcelain cylinders VITA VM 13 with dimensions of 5 mm in height and 7 mm in diameter were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=10) according to the treatments received. Group I (control) - no surface conditioning; Group II- recorded with 9.6 percent hydrofluoric acid for 1 minute; Group III - recorded with 9.6 percent hydrofluoric acid for 2 minutes. Their tensile bond strength was tested in a universal testing machine (Instron Model 4411, 3M). The values, expressed in MPa, were statistically analyzed at a level of significance of 5 percent, using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of a factor. Results: In relation to the bond strength test, tensile strength, revealed the following values for each group: Group I (control) - x=3.35 MPa, Group II - x=4.64 MPa, Group III - x=3.80 MPa. Conclusions: According to the results, it can be concluded that the surface treatment with hydrofluoric acid for 1 minute promotes microretentions, which significantly increase the values of bond strength, tensile strength. This can result in a higher clinical benefit.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This in vitro study evaluated the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin composite to feldspathic porcelain after acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel treatment over different periods of time. METHODS: One hundred and fifty-six feldspathic specimens were divided into 12 groups. Group C received no treatment (control group). Groups APF1 through APF10, ten experimental groups, were treated with 1.23% APF gel. Each group obtained 1 to 10 minutes of etching time in 1 minute increments, respectively. Group HF2 was treated with 9.6% hydrofluoric acid (HF) for 2 minutes. All specimens were then bonded to a resin composite cylinder using Adper Scotchbond Multi-purpose (3M ESPE) after silane (Monobond-S, Ivoclar Vivadent AG) application. Specimens were stored at 37ºC for 24 hours before the SBS was performed and were recorded in MPa at fracture. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=.05). RESULTS: HF etching yielded the highest SBS (18.0 ± 1.5 MPa), which was not significantly different from APF gel etching for 6 to 10 minutes (16.0 ± 2.1 to 17.2 ± 1.6 MPa) (P>.05). CONCLUSIONS: APF gel etching for 6 minutes might be used as an alternative etchant to HF acid for bonding resin composite to silanized feldspathic porcelain.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This in vitro study evaluated shear bond strengths of surface treatment porcelains with four porcelain repair systems simulating intraoral bonding of composite resin to feldspathic porcelain or pressable porcelain. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty Porcelain disks were prepared. Group A: forty disk specimens were fabricated with Feldspathic Porcelain(Omega(R)900, Vident, Menlo Park, CA, USA). Group B: forty disk specimens were fabricated with Pressable Porcelain(IPS Empress 2 ingot, Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein, Germany). Each groups was divided into 4 subgroups and composite resin cylinders were bonded to specimen with one of the following four systems: Clearfil Porcelain Bond(L. Morita, Tustin, CA, USA), Ulradent Porcelain Etch.(Ultradent, Salt Lake City, UT, USA), Porcelain Liner-M(Sun Medical Co., Kyoto, Japan), Cimara Kit(Voco, Germany). After surface conditioning with one of the four porcelain repair systems, substrate surfaces of the specimen were examined microscopically(SEM). Shear bond strengths of specimens for each subgroup were determined with a universal testing machine (5mm/min crosshead speed) after storing them in distilled water at 37+/-1 degrees C for 24 hours. Stress at failure was measured in MPa, and mode of failure was recorded. Differences among four repair systems were analyzed with two way ANOVA and Duncan test at the 95% significance level. RESULTS: In the scanning electron photomicrograph of the treated porcelain surface, hydrofluoric acid etched group appeared the highest roughness. The shear bond strength of the phosphoric acid etched group was not significantly(p>0.05) different between feldspathic porcelain and pressable porcelain. But in no treatment and roughened with a bur group, the shear bond strength of the feldspathic porcelain was significantly higher than that of the pressable porcelain. In hydrofluoric acid etched group, the shear bond strength of the pressable porcelain was significantly higher(p0.05). However in the other groups, there were significant differences in shear bond strengths between feldspathic porcelain and pressable porcelain(p<0.05).
