RESUMEN

Vitamin C is an important nutrient implicated in different physiological functions in humans. Despite its important biological functions, therapeutic applications of vitamin C are rare and its use is further impacted by low chemical stability. Several nano-encapsulation techniques have been described in the literature and yet, there are only a handful of clinical investigations dedicated to unlocking the therapeutic applications of nano-encapsulated vitamin C. Clearly, further investigations are warranted in order to affirm the promising clinical potential of nano-encapsulated vitamin C. In this review, we describe the mechanisms of vitamin C activity as a modulator of crucial therapeutic uses in biological systems. We look at key factors affecting the chemical stability of vitamin C alone and in nano-encapsulated and explore pre-clinical and clinical evidence on current vitamin C nano-formulations along with their therapeutic applications. Finally, we critically appraise the gaps and opportunities prevailing in nano-vitamin C research and its potential translation towards relevant clinical outcomes.

Background: Propolis has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and healing properties. The purpose of this study was todetermine whether a gel containing 2% of propolis extract, 0.2% of ascorbic acid and 0.2% of tocopherol acetateis effective in preventing surgical complications related to impacted lower third molar extractions.Material and Methods: A randomized, double-blind, split-mouth study was performed. Fifteen patients were re-cruited who needed bilateral impacted lower third molar extractions with a similar surgical difficulty. A test orplacebo gel was administered randomly inside post-extraction sockets. Each patient was instructed to apply thegel 3 times/day in the surgical wound for a week. After a month, the contralateral third molar was extracted, andthe opposite gel applied. The following parameters were diagnosed/evaluated and then recorded: alveolar osteitisfollowing Blum’s criteria, swelling and trismus at day one, two, three and seven post-intervention, wound healingat day 7 post-intervention, and postoperative pain using a visual analog scale, as well as, the number of analgesicpill intake.Results: A total of twenty-six surgical procedures were performed in 13 patients (mean age 20.67±2 years). Alveo-lar osteitis was reported in 3 patients from the placebo group (23.1%) and none in the test group (0%) (p=0.25). Nostatistically significant differences were reported in swelling, trismus, wound healing or analgesic pill consump-tion between two groups. But statistically lower postoperative pain during the 7 days after surgical extractionswas found according to visual analog scale in test group compared to the placebo group (p=0.007). No side effectswere reported.(AU)

RESUMEN

We have found out the relationship of nanoemulsion containing nano vitamin C, E and propolis and gingival disease. We've confirmed effect of nanoemulsion through the experiment of in vivo and in vitro. We tested cell viability of gingival fibroblast cells by MTT assay and mRNA appearance of interleukin-1 beta, using mouse that was guided inflammation. Anti-microbacterial activity for Antibacterial effect's experiment was carried out by using S.aureus and E.coli. In addition, inflammation tissue has been observed with scanning electrical microscopy. In this study, expression of interleukin-1 beta was decreased after adding nanoemulsion containing nanovitamin C, E and propolis. We've also obtained good results from the test of Antibacterial effect against S.aureus and E.coli. Also, swelling of inflammation tissues observed by scanning electrical microscopy has gone down. In conclusion, we have gained confidence that nanoemulsion containing nano vitamin C, E and propolis has very high Antibacterial effect against bacteria in oral. And it made us guess that inflammation of gingival reduces after decreasing interleukin-1 beta. Thus, we expect that nanoemulsion containing nano vitamin C, E and propolis gives good effects to patient having gingival disease.
