RESUMEN

Fenton and Fenton-like processes, which could produce highly reactive species to degrade organic contaminants, have been widely used in the field of wastewater treatment. Therein, the chemistry of Fenton process including the nature of active oxidants, the complicated reactions involved, and the behind reason for its strongly pH-dependent performance, is the basis for the application of Fenton and Fenton-like processes in wastewater treatment. Nevertheless, the conflicting views still exist about the mechanism of the Fenton process. For instance, reaching a unanimous consensus on the nature of active oxidants (hydroxyl radical or tetravalent iron) in this process remains challenging. This review comprehensively examined the mechanism of the Fenton process including the debate on the nature of active oxidants, reactions involved in the Fenton process, and the behind reason for the pH-dependent degradation of contaminants in the Fenton process. Then, we summarized several strategies that promote the Fe(II)/Fe(III) cycle, reduce the competitive consumption of active oxidants by side reactions, and replace the Fenton reagent, thus improving the performance of the Fenton process. Furthermore, advances for the future were proposed including the demand for the high-accuracy identification of active oxidants and taking advantages of the characteristic of target contaminants during the degradation of contaminants by the Fenton process.

RESUMEN

Innately designed to induce physiological changes, pharmaceuticals are foreknowingly hazardous to the ecosystem. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are recognized as a set of contemporary and highly efficient methods being used as a contrivance for the removal of pharmaceutical residues. Since reactive oxygen species (ROS) are formed in these processes to interact and contribute directly toward the oxidation of target contaminant(s), a profound insight regarding the mechanisms of ROS leading to the degradation of pharmaceuticals is fundamentally significant. The conceptualization of some specific reaction mechanisms allows the design of an effective and safe degradation process that can empirically reduce the environmental impact of the micropollutants. This review mainly deliberates the mechanistic reaction pathways for ROS-mediated degradation of pharmaceuticals often leading to complete mineralization, with a focus on acetaminophen as a drug waste model.

Objetivo: identificar quais os instrumentos disponíveis para avaliação multidimensional da fragilidade em idosos com doença cardiovascular, potencialmente aplicáveis durante a realização do Processo de Enfermagem. Método: revisão sistemática conduzida em oito bases de dados/portais, para identificação de estudos que apresentassem instrumentos multidimensionais de avaliação de fragilidade em idosos com doença cardiovascular e que fossem aplicáveis ao processo de enfermagem. Resultados: foram incluídos 19 instrumentos multidimensionais. O Brief Frailty Index for Coronary Artery Disease foi desenvolvido para uso no cuidado cardiovascular de idosos. O Frailty Index for Adults e o Maastricht Frailty Screening Tool for Hospitalized Patients foram desenvolvidos para uso no Processo de Enfermagem. Conclusão: apesar de apenas um instrumento ter sido desenvolvido para o idosos com doença cardiovascular e apenas dois serem aplicáveis ao processo de enfermagem, a maioria deles tem potencial de adaptação e validação para uso nesta população durante a avaliação de enfermagem.


Objective: to identify which tools are available for multidimensional frailty assessment of older adult with cardiovascular disease and which are potentially applicable during the Nursing Process. Method: a systematic review conducted in eight databases/portals to identify studies that presented multidimensional frailty assessment tools for older adult with cardiovascular disease and that were applicable to the nursing process. Results: a total of 19 multidimensional tools were included. The Brief Frailty Index for Coronary Artery Disease was developed for use in the cardiovascular care of older adult. The Frailty Index for Adults and the Maastricht Frailty Screening Tool for Hospitalized Patients were developed for use in the Nursing Process. Conclusion: although only one tool was developed for older adults with cardiovascular disease and only two are applicable to the nursing process, most of them have the potential to be adapted and validated for use in this population during nursing assessment.

Introducción: Una educación de calidad para los estudiantes universitarios de las ciencias médicas es parte de la política establecida por el Estado cubano para el nivel superior. En correspondencia se desarrolla un proyecto de investigación dirigido a la elevación de la calidad en el proceso formativo de los estudiantes de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Camagüey; por ello el presente texto tiene como objetivo exponer los resultados del proceso de caracterización de la situación problémica asumida, atendiendo a las dimensiones lingüística y tecnológica, a partir de la aplicación de los instrumentos de investigación durante la etapa del diagnóstico inicial a profesionales y estudiantes que conforman la muestra. Método: La investigación clasifica como I+D, de carácter observacional explicativo causal, que produce sistemas de acciones para elevar la calidad de la formación del futuro profesional de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Camagüey y se desarrolla entre enero de 2023 y diciembre de 2024. El muestreo no probabilístico por cuota está constituido por estudiantes de las diferentes facultades, docentes, profesionales y trabajadores no docentes. Resultados: Se constataron insuficiencias en el desarrollo de las habilidades informáticas para complementar sus estudios mediante la búsqueda de información en los entornos virtuales de aprendizaje, a lo que se suman las dificultades que presentan los alumnos dela muestra para expresarse y comprender textos, valiéndose del empleo del inglés con fines profesionales. Discusión: Se confrontaron los resultados con los de otros estudiosos que, a nivel nacional y mundial, han investigado sobre la temática acerca del logro de la calidad en los procesos de formación en la universidad y con ello se corroboró la utilidad del estudio.


Introduction: A quality education for university students of medical sciences is part of the policy established by the Cuban State for Higher Education. Correspondingly, a research project is being developed aimed at raising the quality in the training process of the students of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey; For this reason, the objective of this text is to present the results of the process of characterization of the assumed problematic situation, taking into account the linguistic and technological dimensions, based on the application of research instruments during the initial diagnosis stage to professionals and students who make up the sample. Method: The research is classified as R&D, of a causal explanatory observational nature, which produces systems of actions to raise the quality of the training of future professionals at the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey and is developed between January 2023 and December 2024. The non-probabilistic sampling by quota is made up of students from different faculties, teachers, professionals and non-teaching workers. Results: Insufficiencies were found in the development of computer skills to complement their studies through the search for information in virtual learning environments, to which are added the difficulties that the students in the sample present in expressing themselves and understanding texts, using the use of English for professional purposes. Discussion: The results were compared with those of con scholars who, at a national and global level, have investigated the topic of achieving quality in training processes at the university, and with this the usefulness of the study was corroborated.

The high catechin content in summer-to-autumn tea leaves often results in strong, unpleasant tastes, leading to significant resource waste and economic losses due to lignification of unpicked leaves. This study aims to improve the taste quality of summer-to-autumn green teas by combining fine manipulation techniques with hyperspectral observation. Fine manipulation notably enhanced infusion taste quality, particularly in astringency and its aftertaste (aftertasteA). Using Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLSDA) on hyperspectral data, 100% prediction accuracy was achieved for dry tea appearance in the near-infrared spectrum. Astringency and aftertasteA correlated with hyperspectral data, allowing precise estimation with over 90% accuracy in both visible and near-infrared spectrums. Epicatechin gallate (ECG) emerged as a key taste compound, enabling non-invasive taste prediction. Practical applications in processing and quality control are demonstrated by the derived equations (Astringency = -0.88 × ECG + 45.401, AftertasteA = -0.353 × ECG + 18.609), highlighting ECG's role in shaping green tea taste profiles.

As volatile organic compounds (VOCs), gaseous ethylbenzene has adverse effects on human health and ecology. Therefore, an effective degradation process is highly desirable. The Fenton process under UV 365 nm was selected as the first option to remove gaseous ethylbenzene in a bubble column reactor. The main parameters for the batch experiments were systematically studied, including H2O2 concentration, [H2O2]/[Fe2+], pH, UV wavelength, UV intensity, gaseous ethylbenzene concentration, gas flow rate, and process stability towards removal efficiency. The optimum conditions were found to be H2O2 concentration of 100 mmol·L-1, [H2O2]/[Fe2+] of 4, pH of 3.0, UV wavelength of 365 nm, UV power of 5 W, gas flow rate of 900 mL·min-1, and gaseous ethylbenzene concentration of 30 ppm, resulting in a removal efficiency of 76.3%. The study found that the Fenton process, when coupled with UV 365 nm, was highly effective in removing gaseous ethylbenzene. The degradation mechanism of gaseous ethylbenzene was proposed in the UV365/Fenton process based on EPR, radical quenching experiments, iron analysis, carbon balance, and GC-MS analysis. The results indicated that •OH played a crucial role in the process.

New vaccine policy adoption is a complex process, especially in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs), requiring country policymakers to navigate challenges such as competing priorities, human and financial resource constraints, and limited logistical capacity. Since the Expanded Programme on Immunization's (EPI) beginning, most new vaccine introductions under this structure have not been aimed at adult populations. The majority of adult vaccines offered under the EPI are not typically tested among and tailored for pregnant persons, except those that are specifically recommended for pregnancy. Given that new maternal vaccines, including RSV and GBS vaccines, are on the horizon, it is important to understand what barriers may arise during the policy development and vaccine introduction process. In this study, we sought to understand information needs among maternal immunization policymakers and decision-makers in Kenya for new vaccine maternal policy adoption through in-depth interviews with 20 participants in Nakuru and Mombasa counties in Kenya. Results were mapped to an adapted version of an established framework by Levine et al., (2010) focused on new vaccine introduction in LMICs. Participants reported that the policy process for new maternal vaccine introduction requires substantial evidence as well as coordination among diverse stakeholders. Importantly, our findings suggest that the process for new maternal vaccines does not end with the adoption of a new policy, as intended recipients and various actors can determine the success of a vaccine program. Previous shortcomings, in Kenya, and globally during HPV vaccine introduction show the need to allocate adequate resources in education of communities given the sensitive target group. With maternal vaccines targeting a sensitive group - pregnant persons- in the pipeline, we are at an opportune time to understand how to ensure successful vaccine introduction with optimal acceptance and uptake, while also addressing vaccine hesitancy to increase population benefit.

The selection of skin is crucial for the in vitro permeation test (IVPT). The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different freezing-thawing processes on the barrier function of skin and the transdermal permeability of granisetron and lidocaine. Rat and hairless mouse skins were thawed at three different conditions after being frozen at -20℃ for 9 days: thawed at 4℃, room temperature (RT), and 32℃. There were no significant differences in the steady-state fluxes of drugs between fresh and thawed samples, but compared with fresh skin there were significant differences in lag time for the permeation of granisetron in rat skins thawed at RT and 32℃. Histological research and scanning electron microscopy images showed no obvious structural damage on frozen/thawed skin, while immunohistochemical staining and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the tight junction (TJ) protein Cldn-1 showed significantly impaired epidermal barrier. It was concluded that the freezing-thawing process increases the diffusion rate of hydrophilic drugs partly due to the functional degradation of TJs. It's recommended that hairless, inbred strains and identical animal donors should be used, and the selected thawing method of skin should be validated prior to IVPT, especially for hydrophilic drugs.

The dyeing process of textile materials is inherently intricate, influenced by a myriad of factors, including dye concentration, dyeing time, pH level, temperature, type of dye, fiber composition, mechanical agitation, salt concentration, mordants, fixatives, water quality, dyeing method, and pre-treatment processes. The intricacy of achieving optimal settings during dyeing poses a significant challenge. In response, this study introduces a novel algorithmic approach that integrates response surface methodology (RSM), artificial neural network (ANN), and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques for the precise fine-tuning of concentration, time, pH, and temperature. The primary focus is on quantifying color strength, represented as K/S, as the response variable in the dyeing process of polyamide 6 and woolen fabric, utilizing plum-tree leaves as a sustainable dye source. Results indicate that ANN (R2 ~ 1) performs much better than RSM (R2 > 0.92). The optimization results, employing ANN-GA integration, indicate that a concentration of 100 wt.%, time of 86.06 min, pH level of 8.28, and a temperature of 100 °C yield a K/S value of 10.21 for polyamide 6 fabric. Similarly, a concentration of 55.85 wt.%, time of 120 min, pH level of 5, and temperature of 100 °C yield a K/S value of 7.65 for woolen fabric. This proposed methodology not only paves the way for sustainable textile dyeing but also facilitates the optimization of diverse dyeing processes for textile materials.

Introduction: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a substantial healthcare burden in low- and middle- income countries. "Clean Cut" is a checklist-based infection prevention and control (IPC) program intended to improve compliance to peri-operative IPC standards. We aim to study the short-term and long-term impact of its implementation in a tertiary care cancer referral center. Methods: This was a single institute, prospective interventional study. Patients undergoing elective head-neck surgical procedures were included. The "Clean Cut" program consisting of surveillance, audits, and IPC training was implemented for 6 months, after which there was no active oversight. Post-intervention (T2) and 1-year follow-up (T3) data regarding compliance to core IPC practices and SSI rates were compared with baseline (T1). Results: One hundred eighty six patients were included with 50 (26.9%), 86 (46.2%), and 50 (26.9%) patients at T1, T2, and T3, respectively. At baseline, teams complied with a mean of 3.56 of the six critical components of infection control processes which rose to 4.66 (p < 0.001) at T2, but decreased to 4.02 at T3 (p = 0.053). The SSI rate at baseline decreased significantly after Clean Cut implementation [16 (32%) vs. 12 (13.95%), p = 0.012], but returned to baseline levels after 1 year [17 (34%), p = 0.006]. Conclusion: Implementation of the "Clean Cut" program increases compliance to infection control processes and reduces SSI rates in the short term. Without continuing oversight, these rates return to baseline values after 1 year.

As a remote and non-contact stimulus, light offers the potential for manipulating the polarization of ferroelectric materials without physical contact. However, in current research, the non-contact write-read (erase) process lacks direct observation through the stable current as output signal. To address this limitation, we investigated the photoinduced polarization switching capabilities of the cyanide-bridged compound [Fe2Co] using visible light, leading to the achievement of rewritable polarization. By subjecting [Fe2Co] crystals to alternating irradiation with 785 nm and 532 nm light, the polarization changes exhibited a distinct square wave pattern, confirming the reliability of the writing and erasing processes. Initialization involved exposing specific crystal units to 532 nm light for storing "1" or "0" information, while reading was accomplished by scanning the units with 785 nm light, resulting in brief current pulses for "1" states and no current signal for "0" states. This research unveils new possibilities for optical storage systems, paving the way for efficient and rewritable data storage and retrieval technologies, such as the next-generation memories.

Total sialic acid content (TSA) in biotherapeutic proteins is often a critical quality attribute as it impacts the drug efficacy. Traditional wet chemical assays to quantify TSA in biotherapeutic proteins during cell culture typically takes several hours or longer due to the complexity of the assay which involves isolation of sialic acid from the protein of interest, followed by sample preparation and chromatographic based separation for analysis. Here, we developed a machine learning model-based technology to rapidly predict TSA during cell culture by using typically measured process parameters. The technology features a user interface, where the users only have to upload cell culture process parameters as input variables and TSA values are instantly displayed on a dashboard platform based on the model predictions. In this study, multiple machine learning algorithms were assessed on our dataset, with the Random Forest model being identified as the most promising model. Feature importance analysis from the Random Forest model revealed that attributes like viable cell density (VCD), glutamate, ammonium, phosphate, and basal medium type are critical for predictions. Notably, while the model demonstrated strong predictability by Day 14 of observation, challenges remain in forecasting TSA values at the edges of the calibration range. This research not only emphasizes the transformative power of machine learning and soft sensors in bioprocessing but also introduces a rapid and efficient tool for sialic acid prediction, signaling significant advancements in bioprocessing. Future endeavors may focus on data augmentation to further enhance model precision and exploration of process control capabilities.

Developing high-performance and durable catalysts presents a significant challenge for oxidizing toxic inorganic and pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater. Recently, there has been a surge in the development of new heterogeneous catalysts for degrading pharmaceutical compounds, driven by advancements in electrocatalysts and photoelectrocatalysts. In this study, a plasmonic Ag nanoparticles decorated CoFe2O4@TiO2 heteronanostructures have been successfully designed to fabricate a high-performing photoelectrode for the oxidation of pharmaceutical compounds. The developed Ag-CoFe2O4@TiO2 possessed a higher electrochemical stability and effectively harvested the UV to visible and NIR radiation in sunlight which generates the enormous photochemical reactive species that involved in the oxidation of ibuprofen in wastewater. Under direct sunlight irradiation, Ag-CoFe2O4@TiO2 achieved complete oxidation of ibuprofen in wastewater at 0.8 V vs RHE. This indicates that metallic Ag nanoparticles are involved in the charge separation and transport of charge carriers from the photoactive sites of CoFe2O4@TiO2, promoting the generation of abundant hydroxy, oxy, and superoxide radicals that actively break the bonds of ibuprofen. Additionally, oxidation agents such as urea and H2O2 were utilized to enhance the formation of superoxide ions and hydroxyl radicals, which rapidly participate in the oxidation of ibuprofen. Significantly, testing for recyclability confirmed the stability of the Ag-CoFe2O4@TiO2 photoanode, ensuring its suitability for prolonged use in photoelectrochemical advanced oxidation processes. Integrating Ag-CoFe2O4@TiO2 photoanodes into water purification systems could enhance economic feasibility, reduce energy consumption, and improve efficiency.

Selection of a suitable alternative material from a pool of alternatives with many conflicting criteria becomes a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. In the present study, ternary blended mortars were prepared using ceramic tile dust waste (CTD), fly ash (FA), and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) as binder components. Crusher dust (CD) was used as a fine aggregate component. Binder to aggregate ratios of 1:3 and 1:1 were prepared considering suitable flow. A total of 16 mortar mixes were cast. These mortars were tested for various conflicting criteria compressive strength, flexural strength, porosity, water absorption, bulk density, thermal conductivity, specific heat, thermal diffusivity, and thermal effusivity whose weightages obtained were 29.09%, 20.08%, 12.77%, 10.60%, 8.74%, 6.74%, 5.54%, 4.47%, and 1.97%, respectively, as per AHP analysis. Later, considering these different criteria and alternate mortars, it was observed that a 1:1 mortar with 20% CTD, 30% FA, and 50% GGBFS (RC20F30G50) is found to be the suitable mortar with the highest relative closeness coefficient of 0.861 and the highest net outranking flow of 0.316 with respect to MCDM techniques: technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and preference ranking organization method for enrichment of evaluations (PROMETHEE-II), respectively. The ranking of the mortar in both methods complies with the relative weightages of the criteria and the performance of the mortars with respect to the above criteria.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol-related mortality and morbidity increased during the COVID-19 pandemic in England, with people from lower-socioeconomic groups disproportionately affected. The North East and North Cumbria (NENC) region has high levels of deprivation and the highest rates of alcohol-related harm in England. Consequently, there is an urgent need for the implementation of evidence-based preventative approaches such as identifying people at risk of alcohol harm and providing them with appropriate support. Non-alcohol specialist secondary care clinicians could play a key role in delivering these interventions, but current implementation remains limited. In this study we aimed to explore current practices and challenges around identifying, supporting, and signposting patients with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) in secondary care hospitals in the NENC through the accounts of staff in the post COVID-19 context. METHODS: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 30 non-alcohol specialist staff (10 doctors, 20 nurses) in eight secondary care hospitals across the NENC between June and October 2021. Data were analysed inductively and deductively to identify key codes and themes, with Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) then used to structure the findings. RESULTS: Findings were grouped using the NPT domains 'implementation contexts' and 'implementation mechanisms'. The following implementation contexts were identified as key factors limiting the implementation of alcohol prevention work: poverty which has been exacerbated by COVID-19 and the prioritisation of acute presentations (negotiating capacity); structural stigma (strategic intentions); and relational stigma (reframing organisational logics). Implementation mechanisms identified as barriers were: workforce knowledge and skills (cognitive participation); the perception that other departments and roles were better placed to deliver this preventative work than their own (collective action); and the perceived futility and negative feedback cycle (reflexive monitoring). CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19, has generated additional challenges to identifying, supporting, and signposting patients with AUD in secondary care hospitals in the NENC. Our interpretation suggests that implementation contexts, in particular structural stigma and growing economic disparity, are the greatest barriers to implementation of evidence-based care in this area. Thus, while some implementation mechanisms can be addressed at a local policy and practice level via improved training and support, system-wide action is needed to enable sustained delivery of preventative alcohol work in these settings.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: 3D-printed templates are used in intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy (3DP-IC/IS) for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). We applied failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) twice in one year to improve 3DP-IC/IS safety. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A risk assessment group was established. We created a process map for 3DP-IC/IS procedures, identifying potential failure modes (FMs) and evaluating occurrence (O), detectability (D), severity (S), and risk priority number (RPN = O*D*S). High RPN values identified high-risk FMs, and quality control (QC) methods were determined by root cause analysis. A second FMEA was performed a year later. RESULTS: The 3DP-IC/IS process included 10 main steps, 48 subprocesses, and 54 FMs. Initial RPN values ranged from 4.50 to 171.00 (median 50.50; average 52.18). Ten high-risk FMs were identified: (1) unreasonable needle track design (171.00/85.50), (2) noncoplanar needle label identification failure (126.00/64.00), (3) template model reconstruction failure (121.50/62.50), (4) improper gauze filling (112.00/60.25), (5) poor needle position (112.00/52.50). QC interventions lowered all high-risk RPN values during the second assessment. CONCLUSIONS: A feasible 3DP-IC/IS process was proposed. Staff training, automatic needle path planning, insertion guidance diagrams, template checking, system commissioning, and template design improvements effectively enhanced process safety.

This work assessed the performance of a pilot-scale cascade anaerobic digestion (AD) system when treating mixed municipal wastewater treatment sludges. The cascade system was compared with a conventional continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) digester (control) in terms of process performance, stability, and digestate quality. The results showed that the cascade system achieved higher volatile solids removal (VSR) efficiencies (28-48%) than that of the reference (25-41%) when operated at the same solids residence time (SRT) in the range of 11-15 days. When the SRT of the cascade system was reduced to 8 days the VSR (32-36%) was only slightly less than that of the reference digester that was operated at a 15-day SRT (39-43%). Specific hydrolysis rates in the first stage of the cascade system were 66-152% higher than those of the reference. Additionally, the cascade system exhibited relatively stable effluent concentrations of volatile fatty acids (VFAs: 100-120 mg/l), while the corresponding concentrations in the control effluent demonstrated greater fluctuations (100-160 mg/l). The cascade system's effluent pH and VFA/alkalinity ratios were consistently maintained within the optimal range. During a dynamic test when the feed total solids concentration was doubled, total VFA concentrations (85-120 mg/l) in the cascade system were noticeably less than those (100-170 mg/l) of the control, while the pH and VFA/alkalinity levels remained in a stable range. The cascade system achieved higher total solids (TS) content in the dewatered digestate (19.4-26.8%) than the control (17.4-22.1%), and E. coli log reductions (2.0-4.1 log MPN/g TS) were considerably higher (p < 0.05) than those in the control (1.3-2.9 log MPN/g TS). Overall, operating multiple CSTRs in cascade mode at typical SRTs and mixed sludge ratios enhanced the performance, stability digesters, and digestate quality of AD. PRACTITIONER POINTS: Enhanced digestion of mixed sludge digestion with cascade system. Increased hydrolysis rates in the cascade system compared to a reference CSTR. More stable conditions for methanogen growth at both steady and dynamic states. Improved dewaterability and E. coli reduction of digestate from the cascade system.

Lakes' ecosystems are vulnerable to environmental dynamisms prompted by natural processes and anthropogenic activities happening in catchment areas. The present study aimed at modeling the response of Lake Ol Bolossat ecosystem in Kenya to changing environment between 1992 to 2022 and its future scenario in 2030. The study used temperature, stream power index, rainfall, land use land cover, normalized difference vegetation index, slope, and topographic wetness index as datasets. A GIS-ensemble modeling approach coupling the analytical hierarchical process and principal component analysis was used to simulate the lake's extents between 1992 and 2022. Cellular Automata-Markov chain analysis was used to predict the lake extent in 2030. The results revealed that between 1992 and 2002, the lake extent shrunk by about 18%; between 2002 and 2012, the lake extent increased by about 13.58%; and between 2012 and 2022, the lake expanded by about 26%. The spatial-temporal changes exhibited that the lake has been changing haphazardly depending on prevailing climatic conditions and anthropogenic activities. The comparison between the simulated and predicted lake extents in 2022 produced Kno, Klocation, KlocationStrata, K standard, and average index values of 0.80, 0.81, 1.0, 0.74, and 0.84, respectively, which ascertained good performance of generated prediction probability matrices. The predicted results exhibited there would be an increase in lake extent by about 13% by the year 2030. The research findings provide baseline information which would assist in protecting and conserving the Lake Ol Bolossat ecosystem which is very crucial in promoting tourism activities and provision of water for domestic and commercial use in the region.

Municipal wastewater treatment systems use the chemical oxygen demand test (COD) to identify organic contaminants in industrial effluents that impede treatment due to their high concentration. This study reduced the COD levels in tannery wastewater using a multistage treatment process that included Fenton oxidation, chemical coagulation, and nanotechnology based on a synthetic soluble COD standard solution. At an acidic pH of 5, Fenton oxidation reduces the COD concentration by approximately 79%. It achieves this by combining 10 mL/L of H2O2 and 0.1 g/L of FeCl2. Furthermore, the author selected the FeCl3 coagulant for the coagulation process based on the best results of comparisons between different coagulants. At pH 8.5, the coagulation dose of 0.15 g/L achieved the maximum COD removal efficiency of approximately 56.7%. Finally, nano bimetallic Fe/Cu was used to complete the degradation and adsorption of the remaining organic pollutants. The XRD, SEM, and EDX analyses proved the formation of Fe/Cu nanoparticles. A dose of 0.09 g/L Fe/Cu NPs, 30 min of contact time, and a stirring rate of 200 rpm achieve a maximum removal efficiency of about 93% of COD at pH 7.5. The kinetics studies were analyzed using pseudo-first-order P.F.O., pseudo-second-order P.S.O., and intraparticle diffusion models. The P.S.O. showed the best fit among the kinetic models, with an R2 of 0.998. Finally, the authors recommended that technique for highly contaminated industrial effluents treatment for agriculture or industrial purposes.

A complex Polytopic fuzzy set (CPoFS) extends a Polytopic fuzzy set (PoFS) by handling vagueness with degrees that range from real numbers to complex numbers within the unit disc. This extension allows for a more nuanced representation of uncertainty. In this research, we develop Complex Polytopic Fuzzy Sets (CPoFS) and establish basic operational laws of CPoFS. Leveraging these laws, we introduce new operators under a confidence level, including the confidence complex Polytopic fuzzy Einstein weighted geometric aggregation (CCPoFEWGA) operator, the confidence complex Polytopic fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric aggregation (CCPoFEOWGA) operator, the confidence complex Polytopic fuzzy Einstein hybrid geometric aggregation (CCPoFEHGA) operator, the induced confidence complex Polytopic fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric aggregation (I-CCPoFEOWGA) operator and the induced confidence complex Polytopic fuzzy Einstein hybrid geometric aggregation (I-CCPoFEHGA) operator, enhancing decision-making precision in uncertain environments. We also investigate key properties of these operators, including monotonicity, boundedness, and idempotency. With these operators, we create an algorithm designed to solve multiattribute decision-making problems in a Polytopic fuzzy environment. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method, we apply it to a numerical example and compare its flexibility with existing methods. This comparison will underscore the advantages and enhancements of our approach, showing its efficiency in managing complex decision-making scenarios. Through this, we aim to demonstrate how our method provides superior performance and adaptability across different situations.
