Objective: This study aimed to investigate the mediating effects of psychological resilience and psychological well-being for caregivers at nursing homes on the relationship between insomnia and elder maltreatment. As the world is aging quickly and the number of older individuals cared for by formal caregivers has been increasing, this study's results could help create intervention programs to minimize the occurrence of older people's maltreatment. Materials and Methods: A total of 431 care workers who met all criteria, from 21 care service centers for older adults in Fukuoka, Japan, completed the Conditions of Maltreatment Scale, Caregivers' Belief in Ideal Care, Insomnia Severity Index, WHO-5 Well-Being Index, and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10. Results: A multivariate analysis of variance revealed that participants with no insomnia had greater resilience, higher psychological well-being, and greater belief in ideal care and to treated older clients less roughly compared to participants with insomnia. Psychological resilience and well-being were significant mediators in the relationship between insomnia, rough care, and beliefs in ideal care. Conclusion: As formal caregivers are in urgent demand, society should take care of them. The most effective and successful intervention for improving their physical and psychological well-being should be initiated at the individual and organizational levels.

BACKGROUND: Literature emphasises the importance of identifying and intervening in the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle behaviours (ULBs) during adolescence at an early stage, to mitigate their long-term detrimental effects. Among the possible associated factors contributing to ULBs, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been shown to play an important role. However, little is known about ADHD subclinical manifestations. AIMS: The present study aimed to bridge the gap in the literature and shed light on the relationship between subclinical ADHD and early adoption of ULBs during adolescence. Through a clinimetric approach, prevalence of ULBs, severity of ADHD symptoms and psychosocial factors (i.e. allostatic overload, abnormal illness behaviour, quality of life, psychological well-being) were investigated among adolescents. The associations between different degrees of ADHD, ULBs and psychosocial factors were also explored. METHOD: This multicentre cross-sectional study involved 440 adolescents (54.5% females; mean age 14.21 years) from six upper secondary schools. Participants completed self-report questionnaires on sociodemographic characteristics, ULBs, ADHD symptoms and psychosocial factors. RESULTS: The most common ULBs were energy drinks/alcohol consumption and problematic smartphone use. Of the sample, 22% showed subclinical ADHD and 20.2% showed clinical ADHD. The subclinical ADHD group showed several ULBs (i.e. altered mindful eating, impaired quality of sleep, problematic technology use) and psychosocial factors, akin to those of ADHD group and different from peers without ADHD symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Since subclinical ADHD manifestation is associated with ULBs, similarly to clinical ADHD, identifying subthreshold symptoms during adolescence is crucial, as it could improve health-related outcomes in adulthood across different domains.

Psychological well-being (PWB) is a combination of feeling good and functioning efficiently, and has a significant relationship with physical and mental health. Previous research has shown that PWB is associated with improvements in selective attention, mindfulness, semantic self-images, and adaptive decision making, however, it is unclear how these differences manifest in the brain. Naturalistic stimuli better encapsulate everyday experiences and can elicit more "true-to-life" neural responses. The current study seeks to identify how differing levels of PWB modulate neural synchrony in response to an audiovisual film. With consideration of the inherent variability of the literature, we aim to ascertain the validity of the previously associated with PWB. We identified that higher levels of PWB were associated with heightened stimulus driven neural synchrony in the bilateral superior parietal lobule, right planum temporale, and left superior temporal gyrus, and that lower levels of PWB were associated with heightened neural synchrony in the bilateral lateral occipital cortex and precuneus. Taken together, this research suggests that there is an association between differing levels of PWB and differential neural synchrony during movie-watching. PWB may therefore have an effect on complex, multimodal processing.

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the mental, emotional, and physical health of healthcare professionals around the world. Despite research efforts to examine the experiences of physicians, nurses, and other professionals in healthcare, little has been shared about the experiences of pharmacists during the pandemic. A review of current evidence is needed to better understand the mental health experiences of pharmacists during the pandemic. This review aimed to understand the perceptions, experiences, and impacts on the mental, emotional, and psychological well-being of practicing pharmacists during the COVID-19 pandemic. A review of the literature was carried out by searching several electronic databases, which included Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, DOAJ, JSTOR, PsycINFO, the ERIC Database (via EBSCOhost), and Academic Search Complete for studies published between 2020 and 2022. The search was conducted from September 10, 2022, to November 18, 2022, using Boolean operations and the following terms: Kansas, pharmacist, pharmacy, mental health, psychology, burnout, and well-being. Nine studies exploring the lived experiences of practicing pharmacists worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic were included in this review. The literature surveyed includes three international studies, five national (USA) studies, one study from the Midwestern region of the USA, and one study from Kansas specifically. These studies revealed increased burnout prevalence, mental health distress, feelings of negativity related to the job, and an overall lack of wellness among pharmacists across the world during the pandemic. There is limited research on the perspectives and experiences of practicing pharmacists during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional research is necessary to thoroughly understand pharmacists' experiences and how to further support their well-being.

AIMS/BACKGROUND: Young mothers have reported facing specific challenges such as stigmatisation and social isolation, which may be exaggerated by the increasing maternal age in industrialised countries. Despite these challenges, some young mothers have been shown to exhibit resilience and confidence during the transition to parenthood. Using strength-based psychological concepts, this study aimed to identify the facilitators of and barriers to the development of positive psychological states in young Australian mothers. DESIGN/METHODS: Using semi-structured interview questions, 11 women who had given birth between 15 and 22 were asked to share their experiences of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Their responses were analysed using the Framework method; initially coding the data to a priori themes such as resilience and social support, and then to higher order themes. RESULTS: Five higher order themes were developed from participant responses: 1. Everything is about to change, 2. Disrespected and disempowered, 3. Resilience, 4. It takes a village, and 5. A hopeful future. Across these themes, participants described the mixed emotional experiences of pregnancy and birth, experiences of stigma from various sources, efforts to maintain mental wellbeing, reliance on support networks, and aspirations for themselves and their children. CONCLUSION: Findings from the current study highlight several key strategies for managing the challenges of early motherhood and promoting positive psychological states. Recommendations include fostering self-efficacy, supporting identity development, and establishing strong support networks across social and healthcare contexts. Recognizing and celebrating the strengths of young mothers is essential for effectively supporting them through the complex experience of motherhood.

INTRODUCTION: Positive character is an integral component of positive youth development that relates to psychological well-being among adolescents, yet the literature has largely overlooked its within-group variation. This study examined the latent profiles of positive character and explored their variation in psychological well-being across four adolescent groups (i.e., migrant, left-behind, rural local, and urban local adolescents) within each profile. METHODS: A diverse sample of 15,895 adolescents from 10 provinces of China (Meanage = 13.16, SD = 2.53; 47.5% girls) completed a cross-sectional survey on positive character and psychological well-being in 2017. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted based on four positive characters. We investigated the distribution of each positive character profile across subgroups, as well as if and how the psychological well-being varied across different adolescent groups within each profile. RESULTS: LPA revealed three subgroups, including "Thriving" (53.6%), "Moderate" (39.1%), and "Lagging" (7.4%) positive character profiles. The "Thriving" profile was more prevalent among the urban local (58.5%) and migrant (55.8%) adolescent groups, while the "Lagging" profile was most prevalent among the left-behind adolescent group (11.6%). Urban local and migrant adolescents tended to show better psychological well-being compared to rural local and left-behind adolescents, and the disparities were generally more pronounced under the "Thriving" profile as compared to the "Moderate" and "Lagging" profiles. CONCLUSIONS: Three positive character profiles were captured among four groups of Chinese adolescents varied in parental migration status and rural-urban residency. Tailored youth development programs are needed for different groups of adolescents varying in positive character profiles.

Introduction: This research explores the intricate interplay among teacher-student relationships, perceived autonomy support, peer relationships, and their collective impact on the psychological well-being of 387 university students enrolled in French language courses across diverse academic institutions in China. Methods: Employing Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), this study aims to establish the validity and robustness of the proposed model. Data collection involved online surveys utilizing Likert scales and standardized measures to assess variables concerning educational relationships and psychological well-being. Results: The findings reveal significant associations between teacher-student relationships, autonomy support, positive peer relationships, and psychological well-being. Importantly, analyses demonstrate the influential role of positive peer relationships in mediating the effects of teacher-student relationships and autonomy support on students' psychological well-being. Discussion: These outcomes emphasize the crucial significance of educational relationships in shaping students' psychological well-being within academic settings. The findings contribute to understanding the nuanced dynamics of educational interactions and their profound implications for student well-being. This highlights the necessity of cultivating positive educational environments for enhanced student mental health.

In this cross-sectional study, a German translation of the subscale "Purpose in Life" (PLQ) from the Scales of Psychological Well-being (SPWB) was validated in a representative sample of participants from healthy and cardiovascular populations. The main objectives were to assess the reliability, convergent, and discriminant validity using a large and representative sample (N = 466 healthy sample, N = 247 patients with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), N = 70 patients with a cardiovascular disease (CVD)). The findings indicated that the German PLQ is a reliable and valid measure of positive psychological well-being, showing a positive correlation with health-related quality of life, optimism, and positive affect. In turn, the PLQ score was significantly and negatively correlated with depressive symptom severity, anxiety, pessimism, and negative affect, while being distinct from these constructs. The comparability of the measurement properties of the German PLQ with the original English version further supports the validity of the translation. Additionally, the unidimensional structure of the German version mirrored that of the English PLQ. As this study used a large and representative sample, it provides the most up-to-date normative population value for the subscale of the SPWB. Moreover, this study represents the first known exploration of the questionnaire in a cardiovascular sample, revealing relationships between health-related quality of life, optimism, positive affect, and the German PLQ. However, in patients with ICD, the positive correlation between the PLQ and the physical component of the SF-12 did not reach significance. Despite these valuable findings, future research to enhance the understanding of the PLQ and its implications is warranted.

BACKGROUND: Academic performance is influenced by a complex interplay of multiple factors whose relationships often do not follow straightforward patterns. Despite extensive research, understanding of these dynamics remains inconclusive. In particular, several studies highlight that higher emotional intelligence is associated with better academic outcomes and that people with elevated levels of psychological well-being also tend to achieve higher grades. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the associations between emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and academic performance among undergraduate nursing students. Specifically, it seeks to deepen our understanding of how emotional intelligence affects academic achievement, with psychological well-being potentially serving as a mediator. DESIGN: A cross-sectional correlational design was employed. SETTINGS: The study involved a convenience sample of undergraduate nursing students from various degree programmes affiliated with the primary author. PARTICIPANTS: 394 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study, 249 identified as female and 145 as male. METHODS: Participants completed a quantitative survey during class hours, providing data on demographics, academic average scores and self-report measures of perceived emotional intelligence and psychological well-being. Data were evaluated using Pearson's correlations and serial multiple mediation analyses. RESULTS: The findings revealed significant positive relationships between emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and academic performance. Serial mediation assessments indicated that dimensions of emotional intelligence influence academic performance both directly and indirectly through psychological well-being. Specifically, flourishing partially mediated the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance, directly influencing academic outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: This study underscores the critical role of emotional management skills in academic performance, with psychological well-being acting as a partial mediator in this relationship. Consequently, undergraduate nursing students with enhanced emotional management abilities and higher levels of psychological well-being are likely to achieve better academic outcomes.

Digital detoxification is a conscious disconnection from all smartphone activities for a certain period of time, which has been undertaken as effective by researchers to improve well-being, but studies found inconsistent results, with a primary focus on negative well-being, thus necessitating a need to focus on the positive aspect. As a result, the current study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess digital detoxification and its influence on users subjective and psychological well-being (PWB). A comprehensive search (up to November 19, 2023) across databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Pro-Quest, and Google Search yielded a total of 26 eligible studies (18 for meta-analysis) comprising 8,147 participants (Mage = 25.20 years). The Studies' quality was assessed using Cochrane's updated Risk of Bias Tool, and statistical analysis was performed in R Studio. Digital detoxification was found to be effective in improving subjective well-being (SWB) (Standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.06, 0.34; p < 0.01, I2 = 73.6%, n = 14 papers), as well as PWB (SMD = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.09, 0.46; p < 0.05; I2 = 0.0%, n = 4 papers). Notably, we detected no publication bias but addressed funnel plot asymmetry using Trim & Fill. Moderation analysis revealed the impact of internet coverage, developmental status, location, intervention effectiveness, and risk of bias on the estimated effect size for SWB. Meta-regression highlighted the significant influence of mean age, and although no potential outliers were identified, influential plots are provided for transparency. Our findings consolidate the efficacy of digital detoxification, emphasizing the need for nuanced consideration of study factors. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on digital well-being, offering valuable insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

The quality of life of breast cancer patients is strongly affected by physical pain, psychological distress, and uncertainty about vital prognosis. Objective: To assess breast cancer patients' mental well-being and level of psychological distress at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out from April to December 2023 at the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Marrakech. The data were collected via a questionnaire comprising a sociodemographic section and a section reserved for the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS) and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10). Data analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 25. Results: A total of 38.3% of patients experienced severe psychological distress. However, their mental well-being was high with a mean of 54.59 (±11.29). Older patients (>50 years) exhibited better mental well-being (56.46±10.39 vs. 52.99±11.81; p=0.020) and lower psychological distress (26.27±7.21 vs. 28.44±8.19; p=0.034) compared to their younger counterparts (≤50 years). As for the stage of cancer, patients with localized cancer presented a higher mental well-being score than patients with metastatic cancer (55.53±10.93 vs. 50.40±12.03; p=0.008). However, no statistically significant difference was recorded between mastectomy and lumpectomy patients regarding mental well-being or psychological distress. Conclusion: Breast cancer has not only a physical but also a psychological and emotional impact on patients. Thus, early diagnosis and referral to appropriate psychosocial services can improve patients' mental well-being.


A qualidade de vida das pacientes com câncer de mama é fortemente afetada pela dor física, angústia psicológica e incerteza sobre o prognóstico vital. Objetivo: Avaliar o bem-estar mental e o nível de angústia psicológica das pacientes com câncer de mama no Hospital Universitário Mohammed VI, em Marrakech. Métodos: Este foi um estudo transversal realizado de abril a dezembro de 2023 no Hospital Universitário Mohammed VI de Marrakech. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário composto por uma seção sociodemográfica e uma seção reservada para a Escala de Bem-Estar Mental de Warwick-Edinburgh (Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale ­ WEMWBS) e a Escala de Angústia Psicológica de Kessler (K10). A análise dos dados foi realizada utilizando o software SPSS V25. Resultados: Um total de 38,3% das pacientes experimentou angústia psicológica grave. No entanto, o bem-estar mental das pacientes foi alto, com uma média de 54,59 (±11,29). As pacientes mais velhas (>50 anos) apresentaram melhor bem-estar mental (56,46±10,39 vs. 52,99±11,81; p=0,020) e menor angústia psicológica (26,27±7,21 vs. 28,44±8,19; p=0,034) em comparação com as mais jovens (≤50 anos). Quanto ao estágio do câncer, as pacientes com câncer localizado apresentaram uma pontuação de bem-estar mental mais alta do que as pacientes com câncer metastático (55,53±10,93 vs. 50,40±12,03; p=0,008). No entanto, não foi registrada diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as pacientes submetidas a mastectomia e aquelas submetidas a lumpectomia em relação ao bem-estar mental ou angústia psicológica. Conclusão: O câncer de mama tem não apenas um impacto físico, mas também psicológico e emocional nas pacientes. Assim, o diagnóstico precoce e o encaminhamento para serviços psicossociais adequados podem melhorar o bem-estar mental das pacientes.

The expansion of sports in China is astounding. Given the country's focus on athletic achievement, it is crucial to comprehend the different facets of sports. This research examines China's athletic success in training, recuperation, motivation, and environment. The moderation-mediation strategy is used to understand how these variables affect athletic performance. This study fills a gap in understanding Chinese players' on-field performance. The study examined 355 Chinese athletes from various regions and sports. The sample has a balanced gender distribution, diverse age distribution, and representation from various regions. Furthermore, training programs, recovery strategies, motivation, psychological well-being, support systems, and experience levels influence athletes' sports performance. The study reveals that the coefficients indicate that training, recuperation tactics, motivation, and support systems affect athletic performance. Psychological health emerges as a critical mediator in explaining the effects of these factors on performance outcomes. Additionally, athlete experience moderates the influence of these variables, highlighting nuanced differences. These findings offer crucial insights for enhancing the performance of Chinese athletes. By adopting a moderation-mediation approach, this research illuminates the interconnected dynamics among key components, enriching our understanding of avenues for athlete improvement. Specifically, the results underscore the interconnectedness of athletes' psychological well-being, on-field experience, and competitive performance, emphasizing the importance of tailored interventions. This study could help Chinese politicians, sports psychologists, and coaches enhance athletes' performance.

Introduction: The relationship among emotional intelligence, stress, and self-efficacy is a crucial factor in shaping psychological well-being. It has a significant impact on important areas such as health, academic and professional performance, and overall quality of life. Methods: Using a hierarchical approach, this study aimed to identify, the specific predictors of psychological well-being, including emotional intelligence, stress, resilience, burnout, and self-efficacy, among higher education students pursuing a bachelor's degree in education. We also examined gender differences among these predictors. This study involved 338 higher education students pursuing a primary education teaching degree. Results: The results obtained using the hierarchical regression analysis technique, indicated that the resilience measure, the burnout measure, and the factor of the teacher self-efficacy measure related to self-efficacy in coping with challenges and effectiveness in dealing with change in the educational context, significantly contributed to explaining psychological well-being in the total sample. Furthermore, the predictors of psychological well-being differed between male and female samples. Discussion: Finally, these findings are discussed in terms of their theoretical and practical implications for improving the training process of future teachers.

Views of aging include peoples' assessment of their own aging process and their subjective age. Positive views of aging relate to a improved psychological well-being which predicts better physical and mental health. While these relationships were substantially studied, the moderating roles of self-aging attitudes and psychological well-being in the subjective age-age discrimination connection have been much less explored. The current study used a convenience sample of 568 participants (mean = 66.21y, SD = 11.95, age range 50-95), 55.8% women, 67.1% employed. In line with the hypotheses, young subjective age and psychological well-being were connected to less age discrimination in the workplace, and higher psychological well-being mitigated the subjective age-age discrimination at work connection. When the perception of old age as a period of loss was added to the model, adults who perceived old age as a period of loss and reported lower levels of psychological well-being demonstrated the strongest relationship between an increase in subjective age and an increase in age-related discrimination at work. The findings emphasize the importance of the psychological well-being of older employees as a resource for improving their attitudes towards their last years at work.

Currently, young people with disabilities practice less sport than people without disabilities, which is a risk to their health and affects their well-being. The aim of this research was to identify the specific dimensions and tools used to measure psychological well-being (PWB) in young athletes with physical disabilities and to analyze the influence of sport. A systematic review was conducted using PUBMED/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Sportdiscus databases, and the search was completed without limitation to any specific year, including results up to and including 29 May, 2023. A total of 2112 articles were obtained in the initial search. Eligibility criteria were: (i) athletes with a physical disability, (ii) performing adapted and non-adapted physical activity and/or sport, (iii) the study aimed to analyse well-being, and (iv) outcomes of psychological well-being variables were identified. Exclusion criteria were (i) people with injury or transient difficulty, (ii) rehabilitative physical activity, and (iii) the results did not show any psychological well-being variables or mentions. This review identified that the most used dimension was mastery of the environment, together with the autonomy. All studies showed a positive correlation between sport practice and psychological well-being. Five measurement tools were identified knowing the state of psychological well-being of young athletes with disabilities is essential to promote successful participation in sports activities.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease especially affecting young people. Mindfulness-based psychological interventions might reduce emotional symptoms post-diagnosis, but the evidence is limited. OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions on psychological well-being and biomedical variables in young people with type 1 diabetes. METHODS: A systematic review of trials was conducted that involved a bibliographic search in electronic databases (Web of Science, MEDLINE, SciELO, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library) considering studies published between 2013 and 2024. RESULTS: A total of 434 records were identified, of which 252 underwent selection according to title and abstract, leaving 32 that were evaluated for eligibility and 7 included in this review. From Google Scholar, six more studies were identified and evaluated, and two were selected. Finally, nine studies were subjected to full reading and a detailed analysis of the inclusion criteria. A total of 66.6% of the studies were evaluated as having a methodological quality of moderate or optimal, but the samples analysed tended to be small, and only two articles carried out short-term follow-up evaluations. CONCLUSIONS: Mindfulness-based interventions, upon reviewing the preliminary results, may be posited as a viable strategy to enhance psychological (anxiety, diabetes distress, perceived stress, depression, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, and quality of life) and biomedical outcomes (glycaemic control, blood glucose levels, and diastolic blood pressure) for type 1 diabetes in young people. Although promising, further research is required to improve the quality, methodology, and design of studies.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the mental health of American mothers and mothers of children with disabilities may have been disproportionately impacted. The present study characterized psychological well-being, social support, and caregiving responsibilities during the pandemic across mothers of children with autism, fragile X syndrome (FXS), and neurotypical children. Methods: Participants were 54 mothers of children with FXS, 46 mothers of autistic children, and a control group of 80 mothers of neurotypical children. Mothers completed questionnaires on depressive and anxiety symptoms, perceived decline in psychological well-being due to the pandemic, pandemic-related changes in caregiving responsibilities, and levels of social support. Results: Over half of the mothers of children with autism and over one-third of the mothers of children with FXS reported clinically significant symptoms of depression and anxiety, with rates significantly higher than the control mothers. Though all mothers reported a surge in caregiving responsibilities, mothers of children with FXS experienced greater increases in caregiving responsibilities and social support was lower in both disability groups. Caregiving responsibilities and social support were associated with psychological well-being due to the pandemic across all groups. Conclusions: Findings highlight the harsh impact of the pandemic on the mental health of mothers of children with FXS and autism. The staggering rate of clinical depressive and anxiety symptoms reported by these groups underscores the urgent need for improved access to psychological services and family-centered supports, with increased caregiving responsibilities and inadequate social support representing important risk factors for mental health problems.

BACKGROUND: Academic self-efficacy and psychological well-being play a crucial role in the mental health of nursing students and influence whether they decide to remain in the nursing profession. AIMS: This study aimed to determine the effect of laughter therapy on self-efficacy and psychological well-being in nursing students. METHODS: In this randomized controlled study, 208 nursing students were randomly assigned to an experimental (n = 102) and a control (n = 106) group. The experimental group received laughter therapy face-to-face once a week for eight weeks. No intervention was applied to the control group. In both groups, data were collected at the beginning of the study and the end of the eighth week using a Sociodemographic Questionnaire Form, the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. RESULTS: In the post-study group comparisons, there was a statistically significant difference in the scores for the total Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, the external emotion management and collegiality subscales, and the total Psychological Well-Being Scale (p > 0.05). With regard to all the scale scores, no statistically significant difference was found in the groups in the pre- and post-comparisons (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It was determined that laughter therapy increased the mean psychological well-being score in the experimental group. It was also found that after the laughter therapy, distraction and loss of interest in lectures decreased, stress and anxiety levels decreased, eating and sleeping habits were regulated, and social media use decreased. Laughter therapy can be used to increase self-efficacy and psychological well-being.

OBJECTIVE: The number of workers engaged in informal employment in China has reached 200 million individuals, constituting a substantial contribution to the pursuit of high-quality development and the attainment of stable employment objectives. Nevertheless, the psychological well-being of informal workers cannot be overlooked. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of informal employment on individuals' psychological well-being. METHODS: Drawing on data from the 2020 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) survey, this work employs ordinary least squares (OLS) models and instrumental variable analysis to empirically examine the impact of informal employment on the psychological well-being. Furthermore, different tests were utilised to analyse the mediating pathway through which informal employment affects the psychological well-being. RESULTS: Informal employment exhibits a significant negative impact on the psychological well-being, particularly among samples characterised by low educational levels, limited financial resources, and non-agricultural household registration. The exploration of the underlying mechanisms indicates that informal employment negatively affects the psychological well-being of workers through pathways that include reduced access to health entitlements, increased working hours, and decreased job satisfaction, particularly with the work environment. CONCLUSION: A recommendation is proposed; namely, to further establish a social security system that caters to the needs of the informal employment population and supports and regulates the development of flexible employment forms, with the aim of protecting and enhancing the psychological well-being of the informal employment population.

Background/Objectives: The literature reports that emotional disorders in asthmatic children and their parents may affect asthma control. This research explores the baseline psychological well-being of asthmatic children and their mothers' and fathers' psychological functioning, focusing on the influence of the parents' anxiety and separation anxiety on children's asthma. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled children with non-severe asthma and their parents, and a group of healthy children and their parents. The asthmatic children underwent anamnestic investigation, including asthma control and spirometry. Then, both the asthmatic and control triads filled a survey assessing their psychological functioning. Results: Among the 40 asthmatic children enrolled (8-18 years old), most had good clinical control maintained with GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) therapy step 1-2 (14 patients, 35%) or step 3-4 (26 patients, 65%); 12 patients (30%) had at least one steroid course in the year before enrollment. They exhibited normal psychological adjustment but elevated levels of general (U = 179,500; p < 0.001) and state anxiety (U = 170,000; p < 0.001) compared to healthy peers. Additionally, the asthmatic children's mothers displayed higher levels of separation anxiety compared to the fathers (t = -2.865, p = 0.006). Increased separation anxiety in the mothers corresponded to a history of at least one exacerbation in the previous year. Conclusions: The asthmatic children exhibited normal psychological adjustment with higher general and state anxiety. Also, their mothers showed greater levels of separation anxiety compared to their fathers. Lastly, higher mothers' separation anxiety corresponded to a history of at least one exacerbation in the previous year. The influence of the parents' psychological well-being on the children's asthma control was previously unexplored.
